I have 2 HTC One SV LTE phones. One of them I was able to unlock the bootloader, root, and grab the MSL while it was running ICS. After an OTA JB update everything is running fine and I can still grab the MSL using MSL reader.
My second phone is identical but got the OTA JB update prior to me unlocking the bootloader and rooting. When I try to grab the MSL I get nothing. I've tried every method I could find including running "getprop ril.MSL" directly from adb shell which returns an empty line.
Code:
[email protected]:/ # getprop ril.MSL
getprop ril.MSL
[email protected]:/ #
MSL reader's error log spits out:
Code:
Diagnostic output:
Running as root.
Stopping rild...
Asking for MSL...
0
1.12.50.0516
0
0
Starting rild...
Done.
Diagnostic error:
Does anyone have a method I could employ to get the MSL for my second phone? Or since I know the MSL for one device is there a way to transfer that to my other phone?
I'd appreciate any advice.
Ha! So that is why I kept receiving a blank line! I was on JB before I rooted and unlocked my bootloader. Have you tried reverting back to ICS? I would, but too lazy and at this point I don't need my MSL anymore.

There is an app on the play store called, MSL Reader. Must be rooted to use it. It will display your MSL, but ONLY if you are properly rooted.

Has nothing to do with the Rom. Works on ICS and JB. Only thing I can think of is either you are making a typo when entering the msl code or the msl is invalid due to a blacklist or your device being inactive.

I would assume because you have a device which is a US product over in Mexico. So I also assume your phone isn't even activated which may be your problem there. Not much you can do about that. You would have to settle it with Boost Mobile.

I managed to unlock the bootloader for my AT&T One X. These are the steps that I took.I think that the problem I had was that my root wasn't done completely. SuperSU was installed, but whenever I tried to use an app that required root, it would ask if I was rooted.
1. I factory reset my phone through the bootloader. (For me, this removed root).
2. I uninstalled the HTC drivers on my PC, then reinstalled.
3. Re-root, using this root.
3a. USB debugging enabled3b. Disable fastboot.3c. Make sure HTC sync isn't running.3d. If using desktop, plug USB into the back of the computer.4. Check and make sure root is working properly. You can go into SuperSU and it should update SU binaries.
5. Use this tool to unlock the bootloader.
That is what worked for me. I took every precaution I could think of and it worked. Good luck!

I'm running 3.18 on my att one x and having zero luck unlocking my phone via htcdev... keep getting error 160. I also cant find any one click roots for 3.18?? Any special steps I should know about?
That's because htcdev blocks AT&T phones. You need to get SuperCID first. You can't have looked very hard, because there is a 3.18 root method in the General section of our phone's forum. Also, you probably need to do some reading, because you should have known these facts before attempting to alter your phone.

You can't find any 1-click roots for 3.18, because there are none.
The "special steps" you should follow, are to first start looking at my Index thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237
Find the root method for 3.18. Then you will need to SuperCID. Then, and only then, will you be able to unlock the bootlaoder. Read read read.
Has anybody had this issue with the HTC One M4
To anybody that knows about these forums,
I have been trying to unlock the bootloader for the new HTC One from Verizon, I went to the HTcdev website, and I follow all the instructions step by step, I paste the code into the box, then it tells me some code error 160 mid not allowed, so now I have no clue what that means, I check out the websites and they all have similar instructions on unlocking the bootloader, but they all worked and none of them got the error 160 mid not allowed, I check out the error forums, and they are just as frustrating because they get detailed into what the reason in the code is, but considering that the need for the code to be all 1111 doesn't help when the phone won't even unlock through the htcdev site.
Has anyone else come up against this particular error and if so how was it resolved? Any help is greatly appreciated:fingers-crossed:
You're I'm the wrong forum buddy, this is the HTC One XL forum.

Yes, I know that. Unfortunately I bought the phone used and 000000 isn't working. Guessing that the previous owner had changed it.
Brought it to Verizon store and they were able to restore it to defaults.
I am trying to sim network unlock my One XL from AT&T to use on vodacom in south africa while on vacation. I am rooted and have CM10 09/26 nightly installed and Baseband 0.19as.32.09.11_2_10.105.32.25L (not sure if these make a difference trying to provide as much info as possible). I removed my AT&T sim, put in the vodacom sim was prompted for the sim network unlock pin and a proceeded to enter the pin. I received an incorrect error.
I used http://www.HTCimeiUnlockCodes.com/ to get the code and have double checked (triple checked) that I entered the correct IMEI number but still no go.
Any ideas or advice? Is it possible that the ROM/Radio affects this process at all?
Do a factory reset and retry.....all I can think of.

Take a video of the process you followed and send it to the code provider and ask them to reissue a new one or refund the money...don't try entering the code too many times..phone gets blocked...

Hi everyone,
I've followed a tutorial that i've seen in a thread to unlock sim my HTC One S S4 (Rooted & with LeeDroid rom), but it doesn't work for me :crying:. I can't find the UNLOCK_CODE when i've done this command "strings -n 8 /dev/block/mmcblk0p6". This is what a i got as an output
mac-addr-............................
20120907
419L527903138
HT23WW417040
1.75.997.1

Is there a some others ways to find the unlock code?
Thank you in advance

Yes my htc is rooted, i've installed a custom rom, and i can execute UNIX commands with su privilege but all 3 methods to unlock sim don't work for me. There's no line in the mmcblk0p6 that contains the Unlock_code
I'm also having the same problem. Was this resolved?

Had similar problem. Found unlock code in /dev/mmcblk... after rooting but didn't have a foreign SIM to test resulting unlock code until after flashing Cyanogen ROM. Finally bought a PureTalk prepaid SIM prior to traveling abroad to test and unlock code did not work. Before full on panic, flashed nandroid backup of TMO ROM and unlock code worked (whew!) Flashed back to CM10.1 and still unlocked. Now I can travel with phone assurance.
Apparently, you need to be running a SENSE ROM in order for the unlock code to actually work.

Hey all, just got my pixel. Wanna stay on stock, but maybe root? I want to get my hotspot enabled, so do I need to root to do this? I'm on sprint. Any guidance! Thank you!
If you don't or can't get hotspot enable you may have to root to get it. Plenty of info on how.
FYI
Since you are on Sprint I'm going to guess you bought directly from Google. To my knowledge you can disregard any convos about updates locking you down. That only seems to affect devices bought through Verizon.

Yes sprint and bought directly from play store.
Guess I'll start with this tool eH?

Problem is, I already updated via OTA to latest version. Am I screwed?
Screwed?? If you mean BL locked, no. I have the Verizon branded variant but unlocked, rooted, and flashed SU. When I saw NMF26Q was available from Google I downloaded it, installed via flash-all from fastboot, then rerooted and flashed SU again no problem.

Please look at OP install instructions in this thread.
Please look at OP install instruction in TWRP thread.
I guess you aren't on Telus in Canada or your hotspot would work. When you give no information, too hard to help. But I read this forum so even though I don't have Sprint or Verizon as my provider, I know there are many threads about turning hotspot on for unlimited data plans. Guidance: read those threads too!
Then ask for specific guidance. I don't want to reread for 25 min to find and copy and paste to spoonfeed when you should read. Much nicer to fill in a few missing spots than hold your hand not having a clue of your technical knowledge and skills.
Happy holidays.
Specific guidance: update SDK tools before you start!

No, having SuperSU means you are no longer stock. You need all stock images to lock bootloader.
If you need a locked bootloader for Android Pay or some other apps. Install one of the customer kernels, they hide it. You still need to remove SuperSU though. From what I've seen its a bit harder to hide that for now. So you can root, make change for hotspot and remove root.
Otherwise nothing hurts to have your bootloader unlocked. It gives you more options if anything ever goes wrong. You need unlocked bootloader to even load Google factory images.
PS. I'd recommend Franco kernel as it imporoves battery life.

No you don't have to root to have hotspot enabled, it's a build-in function. Simply set it up in “wireless & networks” and you are ready to go:laugh:

Depending on his plan, he may not have that option. Many do not, hence still need the tether hack.
