Sim Network Unlocking Problems - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I am trying to sim network unlock my One XL from AT&T to use on vodacom in south africa while on vacation. I am rooted and have CM10 09/26 nightly installed and Baseband 0.19as.32.09.11_2_10.105.32.25L (not sure if these make a difference trying to provide as much info as possible). I removed my AT&T sim, put in the vodacom sim was prompted for the sim network unlock pin and a proceeded to enter the pin. I received an incorrect error.
I used http://www.HTCimeiUnlockCodes.com/ to get the code and have double checked (triple checked) that I entered the correct IMEI number but still no go.
Any ideas or advice? Is it possible that the ROM/Radio affects this process at all?

Do a factory reset and retry.....all I can think of.

Take a video of the process you followed and send it to the code provider and ask them to reissue a new one or refund the money...don't try entering the code too many times..phone gets blocked...

CustomROM in a unlock SIM Captivate

Hello,
I bought a Captivate in USA, the cell works fine in my country (Chile). I want to install a customrom, but I don't know if it's possible considerating the problem of the Sim.
I appreciated if you help me
Thanks

Hi, i bought a factory unlocked captivate from USA and never had a problem with custom roms. The sim never got relocked and i had flash over 20 roms on my phone. And i live in Argentina, without any access to an AT&T sim.
Though i would suggest, that you try to get your unlock code written down somewhere before you do custom roms, specially if you did not buy it factory unlocked. There is an app that gets the unlock code for you, I can't recall its name. Some of the phones get relocked after going back to stock; though I'm not sure if it is because they where manually unlocked instead of factory unlocked. What I do know is that when i tried to get my unlock code it wasn't anywhere, so I started flashing the phone hoping it didn't get sim locked.
If you don't get the code, flash and get sim locked there are several posts that explain how to unlock your phone. Those and the "universal sim unlock" gave me some peace of mind at the time.
Thanks!

Back up your efs directory. It is possible to relock and be stuck if you don't. There is no factory unlock captivate. All are att and have to be unlocked via code.

[Q] Unlocked SGS 4G not accepting foreign SIM

Hi guys
so I unlocked my sim using the dd + hex method. a *#7465625# shows all the locks are off. When I put in an ATT sim card, I get an X where the signal indicator should be and when I go to "Mobile Networks" in settings it says "Insert SIM card to access network services". I'm positive the sim is good because it works in my other ATT phone.
Please help. KJ6 team kang rooted.
I hope you have a backup of your /efs partition. I don't recommend you ever edit the files directly. Look for my carrier unlocker if you can restore your backup and try unlocking your phone using the dialog that comes with the phone
Sent from my SGH-T959V
No I unlocked the phone by finding the code in a hex editor and using the phone's dialog to do it. I used the method described in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=980157

[Q][Unlocked Skyrocket not getting signal]

I have a skyrocket that i unlocked Via cellunlocker.net. they gave me the unlock code and i punched it into my phone and it unlocked my phone successfully. here is where the problems came.
i have spent hours searching the web on how to get a tmobile signal on the skyrocket but nothing works. i have many roms, kernels, and radios on my phone including Juggernaut, stock ics, nexusmod ics zero 2 and more as far as roms go.
for the kernels i have the zefie mod .001, hercules ics kernel 009, instigatorx jb kernel, and the stock skyrocket kernel
for radios i have the blaze 4g LB7, Blaze 4g LF4, SGH-T989D KJ3, SGH-T989 TLLE4, tmo SGH-T989 KID, and tmo SGH-T989 VKL1 radios
no matter what combinations i try i cannot get a tmobile signal. when i start the phone up with the tmobile sim card in it it gives me the message "phone not allowed MM#6. when i set the APN nothing changes when ever i try to make a call i get the message "not registered on network" and when i try to register on the network and go back to the phone, i get the same message.
CAN ANYONE HELP ME? PLEASE!!!!

Does the IMEI display correctly when *#06# is dialed? If not, mostly likely a corrupt EFS which can sometimes be fixed with: this
i will try to enter the unlock code on when i flash a ROM but i am pretty sure that whenever i entered my unlock code it permentantly unlocked my phone. also my IMEI is displayed correctly when i dial that number, however i did not have the tmo sim card in when i entered it. i will try again with the tmobile sim card in there and see what happens. thanks for your responses

If the IMEI displayed without SIM card its fine. A stock ROM is required to enter the unlock code. The phone should prompt for the unlock code when booted with the TMO SIM card. After unlocking on stock ROM any other ROM can be flashed and the phone will remain unlocked. As a check, you should be able to get EDGE data on stock GB or ICS after unlocking. Then experiment with other ROMs/radios after verifying data on stock.

I cannot enter the unlock code again. I flashed a new rom and put my tmobile sim card in and the the phone does not ask me enter the unlock code again. Also whenever I put my tmobile sim card in the new voicemail icon pops up but I cannot call voicemail or anyone else because it still says not registered on network.
Maybe you need an unlocked radio. The radio may be locked on the US frequencies and preventing from using the other bands...

Btw, you only need to unlock your phone once. Flashing other ROMs or radios does not re-lock the phone.

OP, someone, google the response and see what it is first shot. Why so difficult?
Here's one of the hits:
http://forums.crackberry.com/blackberry-curve-3g-f216/phone-not-allowed-mm6-728778/
This clearly explains why the OP can't connect to T-Mo network, and it has absolutely nothing to do with bands, radio, or whatever.

HAHAHAHAHA we have another thread of similar jibberish on the x+ forum
Makes sense to me. I think what he's saying is: since unlocking his bootloader his imei has changed to a false number. And he's wondering if he can do a sim unlock even though he has a false imei number.
Sent from my One XL using XDA Premium
I was curious, I know its illegal to change your imei but we can pretty easily. And this kinda drives off topic
Couldn't somebody come up with a method to hex edit in a set imei that we know the unlock code for, unlock the phone and then restore the original imei
Sent from my One X using Tapatalk 2
i think you guys dont understand. When i want to unlock i have to give my imei and im getting the unlock code through regeneratig it with a imei code.Willl the phone unlock with the fake imei. Im not sure if my imei changed. Can it?
Maybe the reason we don't understand is because you're not explaining it well enough. Sorry but you're not making much sense.
Are you trying to do a sim unlock? To change mobile carriers? If so, I don't think it will work if you supply them with a fake imei. It will not match the one they have on record, and that will raise suspicions.
Sent from my One XL using XDA Premium
I can guarantee you that trying to use your fake IMEI number to unlock the phone will end in disaster. You will need to use the ORIGINAL IMEI number that was programmed into the phone.
At this point in time, trying to unlock the phone using the original IMEI may still end in failure due to corruption of the MODEM partition. The way unlock codes work is that they are calculated using an algorithm which takes the IMEI number as an input or it is taken from a database (which would be cheaper and faster), if using the database method it would come back as not found and if calculated it would simply give you a unlock code which is not compatible.
how to check if my phone has changed it imei? Was there a chance the imei chcnaged while rootin unlocking bootloaderband having a custom rom.Thx
rooting , unlocking bootloader or flashing custom ROM won't change your IMEI. IMEI and unlock code both are different. For every locked phone ( say uniquely identified by IMEI ) an unlock code may exist..

Thx for info but how do i check if my IMEI changed.
Look at the imei on your box, or the engraving on your simcard tray.
Just FYI, no method of rooting or flashing here has the capability of changing imei, except the unlock method that specifically states it will be doing so.

He is just saying by default it wont do it unless the method explicitly states it does in the instructions just saying dont count on it unless its said to change it in the instructions :good:
My IMEI number is all zeros, but I think the sticker on the back of the phone tell you what is originally was. It doesn't bother me, but I guess I'll take my case off one day and fix it. It really doesn't affect anything though once you're unlocked.
something tells me the OP has no business messing with the IMEI lol

Flashed different firmware on my phone, no mobile date...

I was having trouble bootloader unlocking my Telus locked Moto G, but I had seen somewhere that someone had sucess flashing a different firmware and then unlocking it. So I flashed the British Retail firmware and now I have no mobile network and it asks for an unlock code at each boot up. I've tried the Brazilian retail firmware to see if it would fix it but it didn't, pretty sure I need the Telus firmware.

I didn't say I didn't believe you.... When you say network lock when it says that is it a blank screen with a text box in the middle? Unless it really screwed up your modem cause when flashing other firmware it can really screw things up.

I have yet to find the Telus stock firmware. But what I've exsperinaced from other phones when the modem gets screwed up it messes with the efs and if it wasn't backed up there's no way to get it back. But in this case it's weird lol. Somehow your phone is locked to a network which I've never seen happen before.

The APN menu isn't very intuitive, you have to type in all the details then tap the three-dot-menu-button-thing on the top right and then tap 'Save'. Once you've done that, in the list of APNs you need to tap inside the little radio toggle along side the APN you just typed in on the list to select it and activate your settings.
Hope that helps.

Yes, very same problem, solved by flashing the stock telcel firmware (my carrier) also wiping data. It's a must in order to fix that. Otherwise you have no signal, home button don't work and power options are gone.
