I have a VZW Galaxy S3 running CyanogenMod 10.1.2. I noticed that autofocus on the rear camera works fine during video recording with the Camera app, but it does not work at all during Skype calls. When I go up close to something, it is out of focus and it does not try to focus on it. Is this normal behavior?
Sorry to repost in my own thread, but it's been a week and no response... does anyone know how to enable autofocus in Skype video calls?
After another month, nobody knows if this is possible?
Well, now it's been another two months. I'm still wondering if there is a way to enable continuous autofocus during Skype calls.
After another four months, nobody knows the answer? Surely there must be a way?
Sorry i don;t have the answer either but i have same issue on ios you just press screen it refocus but on android it just refuses to focus... and the video quality seems degraded too. why?

Hello forum,
For some reason I video on skype doesn't work at all. I can verify that everything is turned on to allow video. but when I make a call, it starts the camera, and when the call is answered the video shuts off on both ends.

this is a known problem, something on skype's end is borked.. Afaik all phone's on 2.2 FroYo can't take advantage of the front camera due to app/software restrictions, but is reported to work fine on GB. tango works for me however
Yeah I know about the front camera, but the back cam is what shuts down. I don't know if it is my Dad's mac that has an out of date OS on it, my pc will work perfectly with him though, and he does have the latest skype
do you have to be on wifi or something for this app to work with video chat? i tried it yesterday with my gf and the video is extremely laggy and i can barely even tell who's on the other end of the chat bc it constantly freezes... maybe its me but it seems to not work AT ALL like a video chat should.
Generally, the faster your internet connection the better the video quality is.
Sounds like you might've been in an EDGE only area.
Hey I have searched the forum and so far I have yet to find a solution to my problem. I have the Droid RAZR Maxx HD running on Jellybean. I am not sure if the problem was present before I upgraded to Jellybean.
I don't use video chat very often, but sometimes it comes in handy. Especially handy when you're troubleshooting something remotely. Ok I have tried Tango, Skype, Fring, ooVoo, Google Talk video, and Facebook video. Each one of them seem to do something different. Tango will dial the other person up and start my camera, but it will never let us connect. When I attempt to hang up a Tango call all it does is turn the green light off under the video camera icon, and the video camera stays on. I have to press the home button and force close the app. Skype will just force close if I attempt a video call as will Google+. The ooVoo app allows the video to work fine on both ends but we have zero audio and I've been unsuccessful finding anything in settings to change that. The Fring app let's the other person see me (they were on a Samsung Galaxy Note II), and we can hear each other. I can only see my own camera on my screen, though. So far ooVoo and Fring seem to be the closest to being working apps for me, but they still are not functional enough to be of any use. I contacted Verizon about this on the phone twice and visited the store once. The guy on the phone this morning said that it was likely something with the jellybean upgrade. The guy at the store last night said his works fine with the same kind of phone, but I'm not sure about that personally because I never saw him get it to work. The only phone he tried to initiate a video call with was mine. I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me figure out how to get around this. By the way, I also tried clearing the cache and the data for Tango and uninstalling, installed an older version of Tango from Google, but that only force closed. Please let me know if you need more information to help solve this issue, and thanks in advance.
Anyone ? ? ?

Hello!
I have a major issue during videocalls using google duo, skype where if there are any background noise around me, i can't hear the person i am talking to. The audio cuts off. It has to be silent around me in order for me to hear the person i am talking to. Is there any fix to this problem? I have already reset the phone but the problem is still there.
mic (over) sensitivity? perhaps some will stop by and know the file and file entry to edit.
any of this type setting elsewhere (Settings, the app itself, and sound modification yo have installed, eg Viper, etc... that you can check/get to?
I have no sound modification installed. I checked the settings but there seems to be no part adressing this issue. The same problem happens when i use different apps like skype, google duo and signal. Could it be a hardware problem? The microphone works fine when i record a video or recording audio.
Maybe.
Rooted? If so, and you've done a full, clean install, and sure that the install is working ok, maybe try another custom ROM.
Normal calls work, as I get you it's (just) video calls? Another possibility, I'd consider looking up mic sensitivity and ways to decrease it. On the OnePlus One I am aware there was a configuration file folks could mess with to try and resolve that phone's mics over sampling. That was a common issue for many.
Have you tried turning the volume down and see if that has any effect?
Wish I could offer more ideas, I have used video calls maybe 3 times in 8 years.
The phone is not rooted. This problem occurs only when i use internet based videocalls (skype, google duo). The volyme is not usually high when i call. Thank you for your time, hopefully i will find a solution soon.
Frustrating. Good luck.
Hi , I haven't seen this posted but is anyone else facing terrible video quality on 3P apps like Whatsapp , Meet , Zoom etc for video calls ? The front camera is fine when using it via the native camera app but something goes terribly wrong to the image on video calls .
No reviewers are talking so i'm wondering if select devices have the issue. Is there a potential software fix for it?

I don't have this issue in WhatsApp video calling with my device (I videocall my mom once a day kek)
yes, i can confirm.
During videocall on whatsapp the front camera is blutty\out of focus
Google said it's not a known issue and asked me to send it to the service center for replacment . They tested it using their "advanced diagnostic software", found no issues and sent back the same device. My video calls still look like crap . But its strange to see it's not a uniform issue .

Even I have the same issue and I am surprised that no one is talking about it. My video calls look like from 2mp camera. Were you able to find any fix for it ?
Yes it's an issue affecting several apps, also meet has the same issues. I have been experiencing the same problem with those apps. With meet it helps by switching the camera to front and back then back again to front. Seems to help the WhatsApp too.
