You should search harder http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2029650 READ SECOND POST then read it again
Ok I have read it about 6 times. I didn't know you could flash modems... so basically thats all I need to do? Flash the modem and the rom.

The thank you was for bringing this unlock method to my attention. I have been paying AT&T 75-80 dollars per month for the last 17 months even though I use the phone barely (may be 30 mins talk and < 50 MB data). I wanted to go prepaid, but wasn't sure about how well other SIMs would work with this phone. Now that its unlocked, I can try all those prepaid MVNOs and T-Mobile connections. Once I find one that works properly for me, I will terminate AT&T contract. I can save at least $300 dollar that way, and will have the satisfaction of not being forced to pay for something I don't need.

you can't say that unless you check their coverage map. seem like they're working hard to cover the area. especially since they're terminating the contract plan that other cellular plan does.
However, i would be wary about terminating your plan and check to see how much you'll own when you terminate contract. and yes, it in the fine print. you'll end up paying the remaining amount, and i think they lock your phone out if you don't make that payment. so, even if you DID unlock the phone, none of the service will work after a few minutes.
AND, just a fair warning, but T-Mobile and any prepaid that uses T-Mobile's networks won't give you 3G on SGH-I727 unless you flash the radio.

No...Many T-Mobile cell sites are converted(or in the process) to the new PCS1900MHZ freq (if the area is still not getting their new LTE coverage) making stock skyrocket radio working fine in getting their hspa or LTE if available.... In Lexington KY I'm using their prepaid plan and have LTE using UCMC1 radio... While in Louisville I could connect to their 4G(hspa) on the very same radio...

I can say T-Mobile sucks and I live everyday with it.
I live and travel constantly with my gf who has T-Mobile. She has to use my phone all the time because she never has reception or data. And this is US travel, not overseas.

Where I work, I don't have T-Mobile coverage. I have ordered a AirVoice SIM (AT&T MVNO). As far us I understand their conditions, I have to pay only $10 per month for their pay as you go plan. I am planning to give it it a try. I will check whether 3G works on T-Mobile.
According to AT&T website, if I terminate before contract period end, I have to pay $325 minus $10 for every month used. So, unless there are any hidden charges, I have to pay $155 (its been 17 months on contract).

Ahh, then all you have to worry about is paying the cancellation fee. Don't forget the taxes, as there are 3 different taxes, not including sales taxes. or maybe it included. Not sure.

prepaid plan? it not really prepaid per-say. don't forget that they include taxes after charges.
however, at the most, i don't concern myself about the radio freq. i often enjoy the fact that i'm hard to reach because i'm on t-mob coverage.
and you don't really need that kind of coverage, when you can find some reasons or excuses to visit them than worrying about if you have coverage.

yeah, i know. at the moment, only ceullar plan i can think of that won't take advantage of you would be Criket, AT&T PayGO, and possibly Sprint or Verizon.
Sprint coverage is also terrible. Verizon is pretty decent and the only other provider that's close to on par with att. Unfortunately it's not a better deal price wise.
Att is the only provider that you would want if you travel and want the best coverage. Prices are too expensive though.
I suppose by the time T-Mobile catches up in coverage, so will their prices and it'll be a wash.

TMobile is killing me. The have me stuck in a contract that i did not agree to for the next two years. I have asked for a transcript of the upgrade/renewal call, they declined and have told me to drop it and not contact them again regarding the issue - I cancel i get two ETF's!!
Well i would hate the Hit on my credit, but will never pay them based on the principle of the matter.
My question involves unlocking the phone and using it on one of the pay as you go providers: Their coverage in my area is not great, but oh well.
I see online sites where i text to their number and they send back a code that unlocks the phone...anyone tried? any good?
What about the SIM card? Any info on how that will work? places to but etc..
any help whatsover? I've always just dealt with AT&T and Tmobile, have no experience unlocking or getting around anything like that.
G2x only works with GSM networks and 3g/4g only works with Tmobile network.
If you want to use your g2x with other carrier, you will still end up with networks who are resellers of either at&t and tmobile.

I don't think this kind of stuff shows on your credit report anyway.
How far up the command chain did you press the issue with T-Mobile? You had to have signed and agreed to something when you set up your account with them. That signed contract is all that matters.

That's the issue. Their over the phone system is flawed. The process is to speak with a REP then they transfer you to an automated system, which is the signing if you will. The auto system ststes your phone # and that you are acknowledging entering into a contract - NO DETAILS of the contract.
I am at the mercy of the communication between me and the REP and the accuracy of their input into whatever system they use.
I went Customer Service -Loyalty -Contract review. So three levels up the chain and was told in the last correspondence they will not investigate any further, Do not email again - Case closed.

That would be a nice savings...is it like a reload system. What interested me about Virgin was they had a $25 plan. I think it's $35 now, not sure if if the cheaper is available. Anyway, only had a few minutes but UTT and data. The trick was to download some program (forget teh name) and teh calls go through the data so no minutes are used!
Also, Metro PCS seems to be the major player around here.

Guys, If i get the Simple Mobile Unlimited Talk, Text & Web for $40 3G Speed. Will the 3G work on T-Mobile G2X?
2nd Question:
If i get the Simple Mobile Unlimited Talk, Text & Web for $50 4G Speed. Will the 4G work on T-Mobile G2x?
Trying to verify before i purchase the phone. The reason i am trying to find out is because on SimpleMobile website, LG G2x listed is only compatible w/ 3G not 4G, while T-Mobile G2x says clearly it is a 4G phone.
Someone can please shed some light? I called the tech support they didn't know the answer.. Wierd.

+1 SM works fine. Had a data tower issues last week. But the cost is worth it.
They just rolled out a $40.00 monthly everything unlimited. Data is only 3G on that one though. And you cannot tether with them. SO that kind of sucks.
I got sick and tire of getting throttle 2 week's into my billing cycle for the pass 3 month. Does at&t actually think they could with out pissing people off. At 2gb is extremely low and is the reason why I sold my skyrocket and left to Verizon. Anyways I pick up the 10gb for $50 that's more than enough for me. Is a extra $20 well worth it.
Verizon's Data plan
10gb=$50
4gb=$30
Att data plan
5gb=$50
3gb=$30
Unlimited"throttle 2gb"=$30

I just left sprint. Sure they are unlimited, but good luck using 1gb a month on 3g. Their 4g is the same spoed as att 3g, where you can get it. If you're in a moving car or inside a building you won't have WiMax.
Yeah...sprint blows ...verizon is expensive as hell (family plan vs family plan)

They let you keep it for as long as you want, even when you re-upgrade, you can keep it.

Depends what plan you get. At&t gives you a chance to go less on plans options, like less text for cheaper. But if you like me who needs unlimited text and so on Verizon monthly bill will cost the same. At&t data plans are unattractive right now, it's the reason why I left plus the throttling issue.

6 lines, 5 of which are phones, 1 pc ... when compared to swapping over to verizon, feature for feature, it would be almost $200 more
no matter how I look at it, the cheapest route would be to just change my data plan. I am the only one out of the 5 that uses 5+ Gb of data, though my wife is catching up
regardless...I finally found a radio/rom combo that allows the APN trick to work for me...so I am getting HSPA+ speeds now even though throttled

Why do people always say that? It's not true. Verizon's prices are almost identical to AT&T's.
Sure the amount of data might be different on the data plans by a little bit, and the only thing AT&T has that Verizon doesn't is free mobile to mobile talking which is included with the unlimited texts.
I work for AT&T and have a Verizon phone for personal use. When customers come in to switch from Verizon to AT&T cause they say Verizon is way more expensive makes me laugh cause I know they are idiots that can't add.
current plans, oranges to oranges you are correct...
however...those of us that have been with att for a while are paying lower prices...so I guess we are not really making a fair comparison considering that.

When I priced it out VZW was slightly more expensive (a month or two ago) for my two lines. Not enough to warrant the change, but after factoring in the unlimited mobile to mobile and far faster 3g, att was a no brainier. Of course when I was looking to switch carriers (sprint kicked me off, lol) vzw wasn't offering the double data..bastards! The phone was also a consideration for me, I really wanted the Nexus, but just couldn't do it even though I love the speed of the camera.

If you're currently paying $100 per month under contract, you'd make up for the cost of a $325 ETF in six months. Your contract probably isn't brand new, so the actual ETF would be less than that.
If you don't want to autopay, you can also buy 90 days worth of service from Walmart.com, which brings the price a bit below $45 per month, not including tax.
Here's a giant thread that lists the prepaid options out there: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1455014
Keep in mind that that thread lists several options that use T-Mobile's network, which isn't an option on the Infuse unless you want to always be on Edge speeds. People on that thread seem to agree that Straight Talk is the best option currently available using AT&T's network.
A lot of people who go prepaid port their numbers to Google Voice and make and receive all calls through that service. That way, they can hop from one prepaid provider to another without having to go to the bother of porting their number. I considered trying that myself, but I found there was too much voice lag in making Google Voice calls. It was like talking to someone via satellite or something: everything came through a half second late. I'd be curious if anyone has had better results than I have with that.
A couple of things to be aware of: Straight Talk claims to provide unlimited data, but they'll shut you down if you use too much. Most people say to play it safe and not to go over 100 MB per day or 2GB per month. They generally give you a couple of warnings before they take action, but in the worst-case scenario, they could cancel your account and you'd lose your number.
Also, these companies are almost always limited to AT&T's network, with no roaming access at all. They tend to have terrible customer service because they cut costs wherever they can.
I'm sticking with AT&T while my phone is under warranty (I've been having some minor issues with it that I need to get addressed), but as soon as that's over, I'm switching to Straight Talk.
The number porting took about 20 min after doing the online set up.. As far as data I don't think I'm close to the 2gb cut off that people claim. I guess if you tether they will cut you off eventually. This is plenty fast for every day use email, pandora. I have not had any issues.. The only thing that I notice is that when I ever I send a MMS I have to add message with it or it dosen't get delivered. But it could just be this phone, my iphone on Straight talk would work fine with MMS. I love the $ 41 + tax I pay..

Sent from my Supercharged R3velation V2 Infuse!
I'm currently running StraightTalk with a Samsung Infuse. I have gotten as high as 7mb down 2mb up depending on the time of day and what tower I'm hitting. The one by my house is great and so is the one by my friend's house. This was one of my better ones from by my house.
So I searched through the forums for this, and didn't see anything so I figured I'd make a new topic....
I'm currently on a family plan, and I got my GS3 this summer on day one as I had preordered it to save my unlimited data...
However, for a multitude of reasons, I'm strongly considering closing my line off of the family plan and getting my own plan on ATT.
When I got my GS3, my receipt said $0 for the ETF, as did a number of other people I remember seeing around release time.
I'm curious, has anyone who had the $0 ETF canceled or heard of anyone who also had it canceling their plan with no charge?
Out of curiosity why Att? Not only will you not get unlimited data, the service is not as good as Verizon. I know because I came from them after 3 years of putting up with slow 3g and then getting threatened to have my plan switched and throttled without my permission. The only thing I miss from them is cheaper plan and not trying to lock down phones like Verizon which is the one thing that might drive me away eventually.

Discounts through work, and they still have LTE. Plus I would prefer a GSM-based network, and ATT > TMobile

And the funny thing is ATTs LTE speeds are on par with T-Mo's HSPA+ lol plus T-Mo has a reasonably priced unlimited everything plan with no throttling. How exactly is ATT better than T-Mo?

T-Mobile's HSPA+ speeds are only good in certain areas. You'll hit a lot of dead zones and be on EDGE a lot more than you will be on AT&T.

sounds like a poor decision.

I can confirm this. Switched from T-Mobile to Verizon because of frequent dropped calls and their data coverage is horrible unless you live in a good size city. Plan prices were the best though.
Also their LTE is running on 2 different bands I beleive. My friend has an iPhone 5 and we compared speeds using the speedtest app. Mine was pulling 25DL while his was only getting about 5DL. I may be wrong about the bands but I sure made fun of that speed. Especially since Verizon lte is already carrying a heavier load than att's lte which is still kinda new

I can also confirm this. I used to be on T-Mobile 2 year ago and there were a lot of moments where I couldn't even call or text a friend at all. Switched to Verizon and all of those issues vanished. Haven't regretted my switch ever since

I appreciate everyone's concern about my carrier choice, but I'm more curious about the orignal question of if anyone has heard of anyone switching with the $0 ETF
you should contact verizon about that if you realyl want to know the answer.
get on the chat, itll take you less than 10 minutes

Usually they charge you when you break your contact, unless your close to it being over they may let you go. Depends on which kind of service Rep you get.
stripped apart rebuilt with Clean Rom&XdaTechnology!!!
As the subject line says, just curious as to if there has been any word on whether or not they will be bringing this device to Verizon or are we out of luck. I'm assuming it won't work on Verizon networks currently, correct? If it's not going to be available I guess I'll be looking for an alternative when my contract is up this summer.

its not cdma compatible. but verizon still doesnt allow devices unless they have verizons carrier branding anyway. thats why you cant use a nexus 7 or nexus 5, even though they do have compatible bands. i dont see this company ever doing carrier subsidization, so im going to say itll never be on verizon.

Bummer. But thanks man. Didn't know that about Nexus and Verizon either. Maybe it's time to switch.

I highly recommend T-Mobile if the coverage is good in your area. Tmo happens to be the best in my area out of all the companies, so my choice was obvious. Their pricing is fantastic. And if you do switch to them, get the Jump plan so you can get a new phone every 6 months and have insurance

I'm located in the DC area and I believe T-Mobile is here, but I am somewhat limited because I do a lot of traveling. Some of the traveling is to somewhat remote areas where I barely even get service with Verizon. I'm pretty sure some of those areas wouldn't get any reception with less coverage than I get now. But maybe I should start exploring other possibilities. Thanks for the recommendation!

AT&T might do the trick.
There are only a few small areas (such as the area around Penn State University) where there is a noticeable difference between AT&T and Verizon coverage these days.
T-Mobile's network is WAY too small. EDGE-only for miles around where I live.

Check coverage maps. I absolutely love t-mobile where I live. Everywhere I go I get LTE and when I travel out of state I get great service to where I go as well. If anything get a prepaid AT&T plan since they have really good coverage. We're getting band 12 on T-Mobile from Verizon so that's going to help a lot. The only bad part is band 12(700mhz) isn't supported by the Oneplus One.

I originally switched to T-Mo because of Verizon being so bad in my area (and price but thats another story). Getting that band actually won't help me at home at all. But traveling is a huge plus

I also travel a TON and Tmobile didn't work well for me. I switched to Straight Talk prepaid which is part of AT&T, $45 a month for unlimited everything. Service is also great for me anywhere I travel to.
Good luck!!!

What's the difference in price and service as compared to regular AT&T. Assuming you just pay for the phone outright at full price? I didn't think AT&T offered unlimited data anymore either. I'd love that.

ST claims "unlimited" data but in reality you are likely to get nastygrams past 2GB. So I'd consider it to be a 2GB plan.
Same network, same coverage, probably worse customer support if you need it (but less likely since there is only one plan and you bring your own device), and no subsidy penalty.
I'm currently on Straight Talk and love it. If/when I finally replace my i777 with this device, I'm going stay on ST. They've improved their customer service considerably - I would advise others to use it; there's absolutely nothing to lose!
Entropy, it's good to see you around!
