Vzw gsiii $0 etf - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

So I searched through the forums for this, and didn't see anything so I figured I'd make a new topic....
I'm currently on a family plan, and I got my GS3 this summer on day one as I had preordered it to save my unlimited data...
However, for a multitude of reasons, I'm strongly considering closing my line off of the family plan and getting my own plan on ATT.
When I got my GS3, my receipt said $0 for the ETF, as did a number of other people I remember seeing around release time.
I'm curious, has anyone who had the $0 ETF canceled or heard of anyone who also had it canceling their plan with no charge?

Out of curiosity why Att? Not only will you not get unlimited data, the service is not as good as Verizon. I know because I came from them after 3 years of putting up with slow 3g and then getting threatened to have my plan switched and throttled without my permission. The only thing I miss from them is cheaper plan and not trying to lock down phones like Verizon which is the one thing that might drive me away eventually.

Discounts through work, and they still have LTE. Plus I would prefer a GSM-based network, and ATT > TMobile

And the funny thing is ATTs LTE speeds are on par with T-Mo's HSPA+ lol plus T-Mo has a reasonably priced unlimited everything plan with no throttling. How exactly is ATT better than T-Mo?

T-Mobile's HSPA+ speeds are only good in certain areas. You'll hit a lot of dead zones and be on EDGE a lot more than you will be on AT&T.

I can confirm this. Switched from T-Mobile to Verizon because of frequent dropped calls and their data coverage is horrible unless you live in a good size city. Plan prices were the best though.

Also their LTE is running on 2 different bands I beleive. My friend has an iPhone 5 and we compared speeds using the speedtest app. Mine was pulling 25DL while his was only getting about 5DL. I may be wrong about the bands but I sure made fun of that speed. Especially since Verizon lte is already carrying a heavier load than att's lte which is still kinda new

I can also confirm this. I used to be on T-Mobile 2 year ago and there were a lot of moments where I couldn't even call or text a friend at all. Switched to Verizon and all of those issues vanished. Haven't regretted my switch ever since

I appreciate everyone's concern about my carrier choice, but I'm more curious about the orignal question of if anyone has heard of anyone switching with the $0 ETF

you should contact verizon about that if you realyl want to know the answer.
get on the chat, itll take you less than 10 minutes

What do you think about at&t?

I've read a lot of post about at&t being a terrible network and blah blah blah. I want your opinion on it. I've been with at&t for a long time. I've been with them when was 'Cingular'. Now I've noticed since the atrix and inspire have came out, my network has been very inconsistent. Are you noticing this too? And is it enough to make you switch?

I'm generally happy with speeds and service. Minus the major spots (JFK, LAX, any sporting event) i've never had issues.
I too have been with them since cingular. I have noticed no change. Its the same service I had with my iphone. /Shrug
Ppl were complaining when I had that too But as far as Data was concerned it always worked. i could Stream movies or Sirius any time all day/night.
Still do/can. I don't use the phone part of my cell phones tho so I may have a skewed opinion. I think I currently have 4000+ Roll Over minutes
Ya if I paid for my bill id switch ATT sucks ass ill be on Verizon when my dad makes me start paying
ATT is a bunch of crooks I don't know why my dad puts up with it always some extra charges on there and they never take it off my dad had to call 3 times to get the 9.99 for ATT navigator off my line I kept telling my dad my phone doesn't even have that stupid app cuz I deleted all the bloatware
My girlfriend also works for a ATT call center and they teach them to slam and cram peoples accounts because they think no one will notice the goverment should of never let them buy out t mobile.
ATT got ride of there unlimited plan luckily im grandfathered in
But they put a cap on t mobile unlimited plan after they bought it I think its 5gb then u just get super slow speeds after that
There a giant corperation and there hungry for nickels and dimes
I suggest everyone who pUsh there ATT bill to take a close look at it
Oh one more thing there home dsl internet has a cap on it also 150 gb a month most people won't hit that ya bit if you have netflix streaming you'll hit it every month in my opinion alkida needs to pit there focus on blowing ATT up and not towers

Wow that was so hard to read I think My brain vomited.
ATT has not been approved to buy T-Mobile yet.....Altho they will most likely get it.

Your lucky my phone didn't auto correct to something else I sent my boss a text one day and was trying to spell kati yet somehow it became marijuana let's just say I don't work there any more bahaha
ATT is very dirty you should hear half the stories my girlfriend tells me when she gets home
One person had 600$ in long distance charges all because they didn't have a 5$ a month plan
And the worst part is the lady didn't make any of the calls someone tapped into her line and wracked all that up here's another one
Customer calls and complains that he's being charged overages inhospitable cell phone bill for data when he presumed he had unlimited turns out some store employee changed his account to the 4gb plan when he came into the store to add a line. Theres a period ROFL bahahaha
Sorry but any company that puts a limit in the internet is f'd up in my book whether or not its cell phone or home phone its just flat out ridiculous PERIOD
And for anyone with ATT home service I bet you got a lil 5$ a month service line protection plan on your bill and I bet if you ask to remove it'll still be there or it will be back in a matter of time.
They teach their (yes I do know the difference ) employees to slam and cram all kinds of Crap service plan just one of many little extra charges you will catch on your bill

Sprint doesnt have good signal(in my area), Verizon is too expensive for me and t mobile isnt in the picture. When at&t and t mobile merge fully, we will be the national largest 4G network so why switch now?

I really haven't had any problems out of them. Of course, I'm not the one paying the bill either. Lol. If I have a problem my mother-in-law can get it corrected with no questions asked. If I was using mobile data more than WiFi, my speeds wouldn't be that drastically different. D/l speeds are around 3.5 mbps, both mobile and WiFi. U/l speeds are 1.5 mbps on mobile, and .3 mbps on WiFi. I had iWireless prior to being added to the account, which runs on the Sprint network, and out here in T county TN, Sprint's service is terrible. With ATT, I actually get service at places that Sprint doesn't cover. My opinion is, after researching plan options from ATT and Verizon, that with the new data plans, Verizon is the most money hungry carrier of em all. 100 dollars for 5gbs per month? At least ATT you get 2gbs for only 30 dollars. With the options we currently have with ATT, if we got the same thing with Verizon, we would be charged over 300 dollars a month.

There has been no big change. Been with AT&T since 2000>>Cingular>>AT&T. If anything this backhaul thing is an improvement in my area. I get good customer service, albeit with Enterprise Customer Care...and yes they still try to cram stuff I don't need at me. I think most sales peeps are like that. I just take it upon myself to withstand the onslaught. There have been times I have found stuff on my bill that I didn't want / believe I asked for. Just call them up, and they have retro'd my bill every time with usually no fuss, and usually an apology. I can be down with that. Due diligence and direct/firm/clear and not a-holish communication goes a long ways in my experience...

Yeah, $30 is how much they charge us for the 2gb plan around here, which is around the Memphis area. I've just got the $15 200mb data plan as I only use data on WiFi exclusively. You have the "true" unlimited that ATT used to have. Users who had the plan back in their iPhone days, prior to upgrading to the Inspire, won't see their unlimited data capped. I think they feel it would be bad business to cap the data of former and current iPhone users with the old unlimited data plan. Good thing you got it when they still offered it.

Verizon's double Data promotion, the time is now..

I got sick and tire of getting throttle 2 week's into my billing cycle for the pass 3 month. Does at&t actually think they could with out pissing people off. At 2gb is extremely low and is the reason why I sold my skyrocket and left to Verizon. Anyways I pick up the 10gb for $50 that's more than enough for me. Is a extra $20 well worth it.
Verizon's Data plan
10gb=$50
4gb=$30
Att data plan
5gb=$50
3gb=$30
Unlimited"throttle 2gb"=$30

Yeah...sprint blows ...verizon is expensive as hell (family plan vs family plan)

Depends what plan you get. At&t gives you a chance to go less on plans options, like less text for cheaper. But if you like me who needs unlimited text and so on Verizon monthly bill will cost the same. At&t data plans are unattractive right now, it's the reason why I left plus the throttling issue.

6 lines, 5 of which are phones, 1 pc ... when compared to swapping over to verizon, feature for feature, it would be almost $200 more
no matter how I look at it, the cheapest route would be to just change my data plan. I am the only one out of the 5 that uses 5+ Gb of data, though my wife is catching up
regardless...I finally found a radio/rom combo that allows the APN trick to work for me...so I am getting HSPA+ speeds now even though throttled

Why do people always say that? It's not true. Verizon's prices are almost identical to AT&T's.
Sure the amount of data might be different on the data plans by a little bit, and the only thing AT&T has that Verizon doesn't is free mobile to mobile talking which is included with the unlimited texts.
I work for AT&T and have a Verizon phone for personal use. When customers come in to switch from Verizon to AT&T cause they say Verizon is way more expensive makes me laugh cause I know they are idiots that can't add.
current plans, oranges to oranges you are correct...
however...those of us that have been with att for a while are paying lower prices...so I guess we are not really making a fair comparison considering that.

When I priced it out VZW was slightly more expensive (a month or two ago) for my two lines. Not enough to warrant the change, but after factoring in the unlimited mobile to mobile and far faster 3g, att was a no brainier. Of course when I was looking to switch carriers (sprint kicked me off, lol) vzw wasn't offering the double data..bastards! The phone was also a consideration for me, I really wanted the Nexus, but just couldn't do it even though I love the speed of the camera.

New to Verizon

Hey guys. I'm not new to android. I've had an android phone for over 3 years. I was wwith Sprint for 13 years, but got tired of there horrible and inconsistent network. The unlimited data I was getting was at home when I was connected to my WiFi.
Sitting in my living room with Sprint talking on my E4GT was was unbearable. If I wanted to talk I had to use my land line. I'm amazed at the speed and sound quality since switching to Verizon. I'll be lurking in two weeks and looking to root my white S3.

Welcome, Sprint refugee here too, amazed at the network quality, and you'll find a lot of ex-Sprint folks have switched over to the red side as well. Don't let "cost" warnings scare ya, not that bad really especially if you use wifi at home. Unless you use a boat load of data you'll find the cost comparable. I share 4gb with my wife and find the bill maybe ten bucks higher a month. Well worth it for me to have no dropped calls and a blazing fast network. It will be interesting to see if Sprint lives up to their LTE promises better than the wimax effort and keeps it unlimited. If so maybe I'll go back after this contact is over if for nothing else their phone selection. Anyway welcome.
Wow, it's amazing all the converts from Sprint. I think I stuck with them because the unlimited data, but only one time did I go over 1gb. I would turn in WiFi as soon as I got home. My question is how does Verizon calculate data? I've had this phone for only 24 hours and the my Verizon app says I've used 103mb of data. How can that be, I did all my updates at home on my WiFi?

Same deal with me. Came from Sprint. Service is awesome so far, the prices are ridiculous though. Probably going to look to get on my parents family plan actually. The individual ones are terrible.
yup, i'm a switcher to big red. Sprint had terrible data speeds, and barely any service indoors.
Verizon is where its at in terms of network coverage and data service.
I don't understand the price complaints either. These new shared plans are terrific. I used to look at Verizon and it would cost like 30 more per month for them. Now it will cost me $2 more than Sprint a month! No that's not a typo either. My bill with Sprint (my wife and I) was 128 plus tax. With Verizon, sharing 4 GB, it'll be $130 a month plus tax (both prices include my employee discount). Awesome switch! Now to get out of that ETF... I'm working on that now, haha.

[Q] Sprint or Verizon

I have an interesting decision to make. Sprint is cancelling my account because I overran my roaming minutes for several months, apparently since I started a new job in a low coverage area. I tried explaining that I received no warning about it while the heavy usage was occurring, and that I could easily change the settings on my phone to limit roaming data usage, but apparently the decision is final. They were nice enough to offer waiving the ETF, but the rep said that the only way I could continue using Sprint was if I started a new account. For better or worse, I'm not under contract come Nov. 1.
Now here's what I'm pondering. I really like Sprint's value with unlimited data at a low price, and I don't really mind their low speed connection and OK coverage, so I did consider just restarting a new account. But Verizon is enticing me with better coverage and LTE. On top of that, I own a Photon 4G, one of the phones that qualify for Motorola's $100 upgrade rebate, which I could use to get what is now a very seductive Razr Maxx HD. The only thing stopping me is the cost of Verizon data plans. But I really haven't decided yet.
What should I do? Is there a way for a cheapskate to reconcile with Verizon? Is Sprint's service worth the squeeze?
Verizon all the way... Cost of data plans are worth it considering level of service and device selection is better in my opinion. Sprint will end unlimited soon anyways just like everyone else.

I like Verizon coverage, it's the best out of any of the other carriers I have had, but I don't like the fact they kicked the boot loader on my s3 and that they are basically blocking Google wallet.
That being said it's not anything I am leaving them over the coverage is just too good and I have already missed in Google wallet.

Sprint definitely has the slowest data. Verizon is the best carrier all around but for its excellent coverage and speeds you get high prices.
Depends all on what you want, to be honest. Since you pretty much get what you pay for.

Sprint? End unlimited? With their slow speeds nobody will actually use enough data for them to consider it just playin
But Tmobile recentlyy brought back unlimited, so it looks like its not quite out of fashion yet...

You might be able to take over someones unlimited plan on Verizon . But even capped its miles better then sprint. What good is unlimited dial up speeds

[Q] Will this ever be available for Verizon?

As the subject line says, just curious as to if there has been any word on whether or not they will be bringing this device to Verizon or are we out of luck. I'm assuming it won't work on Verizon networks currently, correct? If it's not going to be available I guess I'll be looking for an alternative when my contract is up this summer.

its not cdma compatible. but verizon still doesnt allow devices unless they have verizons carrier branding anyway. thats why you cant use a nexus 7 or nexus 5, even though they do have compatible bands. i dont see this company ever doing carrier subsidization, so im going to say itll never be on verizon.

Bummer. But thanks man. Didn't know that about Nexus and Verizon either. Maybe it's time to switch.

I highly recommend T-Mobile if the coverage is good in your area. Tmo happens to be the best in my area out of all the companies, so my choice was obvious. Their pricing is fantastic. And if you do switch to them, get the Jump plan so you can get a new phone every 6 months and have insurance

I'm located in the DC area and I believe T-Mobile is here, but I am somewhat limited because I do a lot of traveling. Some of the traveling is to somewhat remote areas where I barely even get service with Verizon. I'm pretty sure some of those areas wouldn't get any reception with less coverage than I get now. But maybe I should start exploring other possibilities. Thanks for the recommendation!

AT&T might do the trick.
There are only a few small areas (such as the area around Penn State University) where there is a noticeable difference between AT&T and Verizon coverage these days.
T-Mobile's network is WAY too small. EDGE-only for miles around where I live.

Check coverage maps. I absolutely love t-mobile where I live. Everywhere I go I get LTE and when I travel out of state I get great service to where I go as well. If anything get a prepaid AT&T plan since they have really good coverage. We're getting band 12 on T-Mobile from Verizon so that's going to help a lot. The only bad part is band 12(700mhz) isn't supported by the Oneplus One.

I originally switched to T-Mo because of Verizon being so bad in my area (and price but thats another story). Getting that band actually won't help me at home at all. But traveling is a huge plus

I also travel a TON and Tmobile didn't work well for me. I switched to Straight Talk prepaid which is part of AT&T, $45 a month for unlimited everything. Service is also great for me anywhere I travel to.
Good luck!!!

What's the difference in price and service as compared to regular AT&T. Assuming you just pay for the phone outright at full price? I didn't think AT&T offered unlimited data anymore either. I'd love that.

ST claims "unlimited" data but in reality you are likely to get nastygrams past 2GB. So I'd consider it to be a 2GB plan.
Same network, same coverage, probably worse customer support if you need it (but less likely since there is only one plan and you bring your own device), and no subsidy penalty.
I'm currently on Straight Talk and love it. If/when I finally replace my i777 with this device, I'm going stay on ST. They've improved their customer service considerably - I would advise others to use it; there's absolutely nothing to lose!
Entropy, it's good to see you around!
