Kindle Fire HD 8.9 - General Questions and Answers

I've red screened my device trying to load CM10 on it. At this point, I'm frustrated and willing to pay to have someone fix it. If you are willing and able, please contact me.
Also feel free to move this post if it's misplaced.

[Backflip] Root Bounty

For now, until I can post links here, to donate, visit the link below to get to the donation link.
Please help us get root, whether you own a Backflip or are a Dev/Hacker, or both. There are quite a few people out there that are trying to obtain Root for the Backflip and we appreciate everything you are doing, we're just looking for more help in achieving this. We all want Root for this device.
I have this posted up on several sites, so I've created one web page to keep everything update in one place for all the sites. If you are interested, feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Any and all help is appreciated. You can find the current status, total, and my contact information here: scorchgaming.com/bfrootdonate.htm (Can't post links yet.).
(I know I'm a new user, I just registered, but have been viewing the site for a while now. I have plenty of other online forum experience a long with tons of online business. For any one looking for vouches, I can provide them.)
Bump. Totals for today have been posted on the Bounty Page.
Please support this device!

There's gotta be some backflip lovers around these seas Lets see what happens with tihs
I don't see too many people sending you money without the root being done first... wouldn't be too smart. I do not believe you are trying to take peoples money and I appreciate what your doing to try and get the backflip rooted as I am waiting for it also, but sending someone money online in HOPES that someone will do something? No thanks. Maybe pledge the money and send it after it has been completed.
Maybe, but while I haven't gotten much interest over here, I have gotten over $200 in pledges from other sites. If you don't feel confortable, that's fine, make a pledge, if you do, great.
This has been done before though for the SE X10 specifically. With pretty good support for it. One thread says $890, the other says $1650.

I've gotten over $200 in pledges in a little over a week, so if the pace keeps up, which hopefully it will, we'll have a decent amount to draw interest to the phone.
Update: I have received almost $500 in donations and pledges in two weeks.
I'm sure there's plenty of others out there that haven't heard about this yet. Please help spread the word. I hope some developers are seeing this also. Without you guys, this doesn't get us any where.
Wow. Looks like the total is up to almost $550. Hopefully we'll get some dev attention for this.
Bump for some more interest!
Trying to help spread the word about the bounty. Started tweeting it out, but only have 1 follower, so... we need more people to get involved in letting devs know about this.
I've been using #backflipbounty in my tweets along with http://bit.ly/c06W3c
ie.
Help get the Motorola Backflip rooted, spread the word about the #backflipbounty. http://bit.ly/c06W3c Please retweet!
PS. I'm @Dbagjones on Twitter
Need a tester willing to put in a some time.
I can get root on the backflip, I'll need someone with a backflip who is willing to teamviewer me into a console so I can verify my method will work.
Contact me and we can set up a time later today if that works for you.
I'm going to take a few hours and familiarize myself with moto's goofy rom packaging scheme and the like before I dive into a phone. I'll pm you sometime this week.
I'd also be willing to help out (have Backflip, ADB, etc. but no clue hacking Android). PM me here, tweet me @Dbagjones or SMS 772.226.0185 <-- Google Voice is the bomb!
bump for greatness

I need someone who is willing to give me remote adb access to the hardware so I can try out the idea's I have on rooting the backflip. It shouldn't take more than an hour for me to know whether my ideas will work or not.
Tried my ideas, nothing worked. Sorry guys!

[Q] Why Webtop

I plan to buy the Bionic next week, or in a few months. (more likely tomorrow)
And I am trying to figure out if Webtop App and possibly Laptop attachment is worth it. I am not able to find any straight forward Apps or features. Just people talking about how to root it... If there is already a post that mentions the below, please past the link and not tell me to use Google,... I already did, and I am not looking for how to root, I am looking for why should I root.
What can the Webtop App do before the hacks/root access?
What can I do after I hack/root?
I already know about not needing the dock after Webtop has been hacked... I want to know about other apps, and features that make this a worth while purchase.
I do plan on rooting the phone and getting full use out of it.
Thanks in advanced!
If I should have posted this into a different forum, please let me know.
Thanks.

Rooting Vizio Vtab - Full System Files Attached

All, I pulled the system files from the Vtab via adb in the hopes that someone can look at them and determine what needs to be done to get root on this device. The link to the drop box is below.

Thanks for posting this. It is a pity that the Vizio has not yet been rooted. I have tried both Gingerbreak as well as the Zergrush tools but both were unsuccessful.
has anyone called vizio with a pretty please with some info on this?

I've been sending email requests for the kernel sources of the 1.4 V.I.A and OTA 1.5. They told me that they respect copyright rules,so i have a feeling that they will dish out the files to anyone who has time to stay on the phone with them.
update on source code
I have been in contact with vizio for the past few days or so. The bottom line is: in order to get kernel source code for V.I.A plus, you need to contact vizio legal affairs. cant seem to find the address around here, but you need to send a written request to them. The problem for me is this: I HATE SNAIL MAIL. I havent sent a letter in years so maybe someone else could? If you want, PM me and I will draft up a message for you. Maybe i'll get around to it.

I've been waiting on the sidelines, hoping for root before I got my tablet but my family all chipped in and I got mine for my birthday (May 20th).
I've asked a friend if he'd be interested in attempting to root the newest Honeycomb release. I'm waiting for a response from him but while I was showing it to him he made the comment, "are you rooted? It shouldn't be that difficult." He's a programmer with linux experience and since there doesn't seem to be any legit developer working on root, maybe his expertise is what we need.
If he shows interest in the project, we'll need to get him a vtab to work on. I can start a kickstarter for the ~$200 necessary.
This is all contingent on his interest in the project. I'll let you guys know.
Is there still a want/need for this? Will you be willing to donate to the cause?
I spoke with my dev. He's interested but just doesn't have the time. He's full-time employed. However, I have decided to return my vtab because of the major HDMI out issue. If you don't know, the vtab will not output to many tv's, I think because it outputs in 768 and not 720 so many televisions do not know how to handle this. I'm going to be getting the Acer Iconia a500 which has multiple dev's support already and many roms available. I wish everyone who's decided to stick it out, good luck and I hope you get root soon.
Just and update this device has been rooted for gingerbread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2543539

[Q] Ubuntu Touch on Kindle Fire 1st gen dead?

Hi. I search quite a bit and found a thread for developing Ubuntu touch on a kindle fire 1st gen.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2169327
I would like to thank everyone who got this project as far as they did. I though (and I am sure i am not alone) would love to see the project come along further. Just getting the WiFi up and going would be amazing to me. So my question is... Has this project been picked up by other people and been continued? If it has I can't find it. Is it possible to get WiFi working on it?(the kindle fire 1st gen). If someone could point me in the right direction maybe I could possibly get it working on my own. Anyone can learn anything given the time for it and the proper learning documentation. =] I am familiar with basic programming(lol started on a c64) and know basics of java. Anyhow I am getting way off point now.
Has this project been furthered to working WiFi?
Where do I need to start to learn to further this project myself?
Thanks to anyone who replies. And yes I probably sound like a goofball.(And I probably am one) Love this site btw it has helped me tons on many different phones and devices. Everyone here rocks!!

amazon kindle os install.
