Red battery icon on boot. - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So,
I left my tablet charging overnight with the dock attached, came back this morning and tried to use it, only to find that every time I boot it up WITHOUT the power cable directly attached to the tablet itself it just pops up a red battery icon then turns itself back off.
If I plug the charging cable directly into the tablet and power it on, everything works fine and it boots into Android which displays 100% battery.
I'm at a complete loss how to fix this.

Strange.
I think there is a way to wipe the battery stats in recovery. See if that helps.

Tried it, no luck either.

If you boot it using the power cable, does it work after the power is unplugged?
The only other idea I would suggest is the nuclear option and fully wipe it and see if it does it from a fresh start.

Yeah once it's booted it works perfectly fine until reboot.
I've thrown a stock ICS ROM on there with Easyflasher and even gone all the way back to stock HC and let it update itself, still the battery icon on boot.

Could be that your battery is aging and, during the boot process, the tablet is requesting too much power from it?
So the battery is not able to keep up with this demand, output some lower voltage which is detected as empty battery?
Once you are running on battery, is your tablet stable under heavy CPU load and max display brightness?
Just a wild guess, maybe the battery has nothing to do with this issue....

Everything works great once it makes it past boot, which is what's so confusing.

Well, I decided to just try attacking it with every brick repair/system restore tool available, and the Tubuntu flasher seems to have managed to fix it.
God knows what that has to do with phantom battery issues, but just flashing the included Prime image has finally rid my tablet of the dreaded battery icon.

Thanks for the update. Glad it is sorted.

[Q] Damaged Captivate - Any help would be appreciated.

I've searched the forums and have not seen anything quite like my problem, so if I missed an important thread, I'm sorry.
Over the weekend, I plugged my Captivate (using a stock battery) into the official Samsung charger and overnight my roommate semi-dislodged the charger. When I woke up and grabbed my phone it only registered a few hours of charging yet still had almost full battery. Upon rebooting the phone, I was sent into a bootloop. Not at the ROM, not at the Kernel, not even at the bootloader. It goes so far as to show the white loading ring at the center of the screen which never moves. At one point, a thin pink line appears halfway through the screen as it shuts down and reboots, never making it any farther. If I plug the phone in, it will boot normally though it does not accurately report battery levels or charging.
Other oddities: after 5 minutes of a phone call, the phone hard crashes. Not FC's, but just goes black. Upon a reboot, I get stuck into the same boot loop. If I plug the phone into the wall charger without a battery, it will go into the turned-off charging animation and show a 100% charged battery. Furthermore, my other roommate has a brand new i9000 so I tried that battery (again, stock Samsung) and it continues in the same bootloop. I have tried flashing other ROMS and going back to stock, but that does not seem to help.
Other info: I was running OneCosmic's ICS 3.1 with no overclock and light undervolting at the time. It was perfectly stable for the few days until the charger dislodged. I am also out of warranty and am not eligible for a hardware upgrade so repairing my Captivate would be ideal. I also have a usb jig if that is of any use to this scenario.
Has anyone experienced anything remotely like this? If not, what debugging steps should I attempt?
What I would suggest is using one of the ODIN one clicks and flash back to stock
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium
I've flashed back to Rogers 2.2 stock. Doesn't help. It actually made it harder for me to get the phone started though I have yet to make a phone call from it.
Have you had the phone for less than a year? if so call at&t(or rogers) and they'll replace it for you.
then try factory reset
then try using odin or rom manager to flash back to stock
When all else fails, flash to cm7. that will completely wipe everything and start from scratch.
if that STILL dost work.... than you can be sure that its a hardware problem :/ theres nothing you can do except replace and sell for for parts.. sorry
You may want to try clearing the battery stats. Something in there may be telling the phone that the battery is completely dead and it shuts the phone down in the middle of the boot. Just a guess, though.
It sounds to me like the phone might have gotten confused aobut how much battery life it actually has. You might also try getting it loaded up and then letting it drain the battery completely down. Reset the stats and then fully recharge the phone.

I have exactly the same problem, I did the reset of the battery stats and still not working.
Did you solve the problem?
thanks
Martin
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions, however, no amount of battery calibration could get it to work. Furthermore, a bad flash has made the situation even worse. Now Im bootlooping even when plugged in and when unplugged my jig is of no help. I have declared my Captivate dead.
Best of luck toominds, if you get it to work, let me know. I'd love to have a spare phone sitting around.

[Q] Shuts down completely when not charging

I posted this to another similar thread but they have solved their problem but mine is not solved.
A little background:
It was most recently upgraded to the the newest OTA and been stable since then. The unit is nearly 1 year old B50. So I know all about holding the power button down for different lengths for different purposes. It is NOT that. Until two days ago, everything was working fine.
First, I couldn't turn it on. I thought since I was travelling and using it a lot, it just ran the battery down. So when I got to the hotel room, I plugged it into the wall charger and it turned on. I was relieved for a while. Then I checked the battery (dual battery widget) and it shows 86%. When I was leaving the room, i pulled it off the wall and bam...it shuts down completely. Curious, I plugged in the charger and it boots back up (asus logo and whirling circle). I decided to leave it plugged in all night.
The next morning, I pulled it off the wall and bam, complete shut down. I plugged it back in and check the battery status. Still showing 86% and I notice it is not charging. I check the battery summary and it shows, battery = unknown error.
I did the hard reset (with it plugged in) VolDown/Power sequence. No luck. I decided to wait until i get home to test further.
At home, I plugged it into the dock. Widget shows the base battery is charging but the tablet is not charging. (it turns on when plugged into the base). It stays on even after I unplugged the base from the charger but the moment i remove the tablet from the base, it shuts of completely.
At that time, I decided to do a complete factory reset. After the reset, it is still having the same problem and dual battery widget is reporting the same unknown error problem.
In summary:
1) The unit will not turn on if I don't have the power cable plugged in.
2) When the cable is pulled out, the unit turns off and will not turn back on
3) When the cable is plugged in, it turns on and work just fine
4) When I put it on the keyboard dock, it turns on and work just fine
5) When I pull it out of the keyboard, it turns off and will not turn back on
6) I have soft reset, hard reset and factory reset (all with power plugged in) because nothing will happen without the power plugged in
7) Battery status shows 86% but not charging:
--When plugged into the wall
8) Battery status shows 86% but not charging while in the dock.
--The dock battery shows that it is charging and the light on the dock is green
I have tested and knows the charger works and the dock battery works.
The main unit battery will not deplete and will not charge and will not keep the unit running.
What do I need to do? Any thoughts? I would greatly appreciate some help.
Are you rooted? and did you try to clear the battery stats?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration&hl=en
you can use that to clear your previous battery stats, and may help with getting a better reading on whats wrong. a messed up battery stat maybe messing with the charging process.
No, it is not rooted. I have just reset to factory settings again. But I might take that route soon if I don't hear from Asus. Is there an good detailed instructions for rooting my TF101?

you can start there. i got rooted when it was in HC didnt like the stock feel, so went to Prime Rom( honeycomb builds) the dev kept it close to stock but with some tweaks to the kernel. was a bit afraid to root at first, but just read through the tutorials, and just did it.
anyways Good luck!!
OK, nothing else seems to work. So, I am trying to go down this rooting road and using the battery calliberation tool.
As I was reading through the instructions, I find the build version supported is much older than mine (9.2.1.21) so, unless i am reading something wrong, this will not work.
Anyone has any other thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Working only while charging, battery or what

Hello, a friend of mine got a nexus s and the phone is working well while its connected to the charger or to PC, but when I unplug it everything lags. I can't do anything on the phone, nothing responses. If I plug it again, it runs as it should. I managed to unlock it and install CM11, but absolutely the same result. The bootloader launches well even while not connected, recovery starts too but its very laggy. If I try to start it normal, the nexus starts in the download mode(yellow android with a shovel). How do you think, the battery does not have enough power to maintain the OS, but it can start the bootloader and the recovery because they need less power? I tried charging it whole night, even charged it with nexus 7 charger which is bigger, but the same. Also, when connected and in recovery, the battery shows 75+ and if I unplug it it goes to 3-6+, could it be software issue and can I test it somehow...
Get back to stock. Put a Custom ROM again. Also, try a different battery. Let's see what the results are.

Tried another battery, the same result, which makes me think that the problem isn't the battery. Also, flashed stock GB bootloader, radio, system, user data and then the phone rebooted well. Removed the cable and its working well, except the front camera which I found not working. Then I turned the phone off and the power button does nothing, i can only enter in bootloader and reboot from there. Another thing I noticed, if I remove the battery and insert it again, no matter what I do (normal, or power+volume up) the phone boots in download mode when the bootloader is unlocked, and if its locked the phone boots only into the unlock- bootloader screen which is unresponsive. However, if its plugged in, it boots normaly and then works ok even when unplugged... Really cant find a solution
P.S. this is only with gb, i installed cm11 later and cant use it without cable, just like in the beginning...

Battey shows "Unknown" and always at 0%

HI,
Looking for some help to get my nexus 5 working. The phones battery indicator is always at 0% not matter what I’ve tried (I’ve played youtube for like 3 hrs so I know there is juice in the battery)
[*]Whats wrong :
The phone battery indicator is always showing that it needs to be charged.
The phone battery indicator is always at 0%.
Settings -> Battery shows battery as “Unknown”
When powered on the screen does not show anything (you can tell its on cuz it connects to the computer. The battery cable has to be disconnected and reconnected as mentioned below to get the screen and phone working.)
Things done with no results
Swapped batteries from a working nexus.
Reinstalled stock ROM (L)
Left to charge overnight.
Cleaned cache from Recovery Mode
Used app to recalibrate the battery
The phone itself will boot up with a blank screen. I have to unplug the battery connector and then plug in the power USB. At this point it only shows the battery with flash. Its on for some seconds and the reboots over and over again.
I get it to work by connecting back the battery to the main board during one of the loops. (Sometimes holding the power +Volume up to get to the google display and then connecting)
Any help ??
When you installed L did you use the Google flash all bat file?
Sent from my Android L Nexus 5 via Tapatalk
Yes ..I ran the flash-all.bat
The phone itself was in Kit Kat when I got it with this issue. I tried it with L to see if the issue would go away.
Other than flashing 4.4.4 clean...with wipes and seeing how it is...it could be a hardware issue unfortunately.
You've discovered the holy grail of infinite battery usage? I'm not seeing any issue here. JK, it's probably a bug in the preview software as can be expected.
Could be a bad battery as well.
already tried that as well.
The phone boots up to a blank screen. Only way to see anything on the screen is to unplug and replug the battery wire. Then everythings normal up until you have to restart.

I am on the same page. My Nexus is showing same results. I have also replaced the battery with a new one. Only one thing different in mine, I started noticing signal drops then the radio completely started to went off. Now the battery is at 0% always whenever I get it to boot that is. Otherwise it's blank with vibrations.
A fix is in great need. Also, I have tried multiple ROMs right now I am on the latest L Build.
Can you replace your flex cable with a working Nexus and write the results? I think it might fix it from the hardware side. Where I live, the flex cable isn't available! :-/

Missing OS

I am hoping someone can help me here.
My notepro was working fine, except for the screen flicker issue. I wanted to root it in order to adjust voltage and a few other things to try and prevent the flicker.
I was able to install TWRP, and SU and verified it was now rooted. I then went and tried to install a custom ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-civzp900lollipop-5-0-2-aroma-12-jul-t3155589
Everything seemed to install fine, the kernel, ROM, all that. However, when I restarted the device, i got stuck on the bootloader with the seanandroid red warning message. It would not load past this. So, i wiped and reinstalled everything several times over, and still no fix. I searched online and found a zip you could flash to fix the booting issue, but no help. I wiped everything except the extsd and reinstalled ROM and everything. Now TWRP says no OS and I am still stuck on the bootloader screen. i cannot do anything at this point.
After a bit it started flashing and flashing faster and faster. This was after sitting with the bootloader screen showing for a while. I assume battery ran out, but every time I tried to charge it, it either tries to show the battery charging from the off screen, but just gets frozen, and then starts to flash again.
I am letting it sit right now. I am thinking the temp or voltage spiked due to low battery power, but I am not sure.
Can anyone offer some advice?
I am thinking at this point it might be the motherboard.
After it started flashing, it would get so bad that the screen would fade out and then back in. Now, it wont do anything, and wont even indicate charging. Sometimes it did, but would just show the battery icon with a loading circle in the middle and never actually show it charging. now its just dead.
There is no way that rooting and installing a rom could have done this. i am thinking it is a hardware issue.
My choice now is to part out the pieces that work and scrap the mobo or to replace the mobo
Have you opened it up and taken a look at the battery connector to see if resoldering would help?

batt connector seems fine. It seems that if I let the device sit for a white it will spark a little life and then die off again. Its rather odd.
disconnected the battery and plugged it in. was able to boot into recovery temporarily. however, it only works for a few min. tried to flash stock kernel and it had an issue, reloaded twrp itself and then would not read anything on the extsd and died.
i was to flash stock, but the stock file I have is .zip and odin will not recognize it to flash in download mode.
Ive rooted and flashed many devices before, but its been a long while since I did. A year at least, and not on this device.
At this point I am assuming that the mobo is the issue, but I am not sure. It was having the screen flicker issue before, which seemed to be heat or voltage related.
If I cannot fix this, i will likely just sell it off for parts. The screen, batt, all that should be fine otherwise.
