Have a Favii Smart Stick, looking for something better, supports 5ghz wifi - Android Stick & Console Computers General

So the Smart stick running a custom rom was cool for a while. The modded version of XBMC using MX player is great for using the 1channel and icefilms plug ins, but using netflix or HBO go is absolutely horrible. I was thinking of just tossing it on the bedroom tv and upgrading to one of the quad core devices for the main room but I have no clue which one to choose. Do any of them support 5ghz wifi for better video streaming? Which is the best if I wanted to play games? Best wifi signal ect. It seems every review on here has people that love their model and people that absolutely hate it.

seems so expensive though... 300 bucks
Yea it is, I have the older non HD version which you can probably find on ebay for $150. I didnt buy it with the intention of using it on my phone, that was an added bonus. I travel alot and am a huge jets fan. with the slingbox i could watch the games where ever i was, and the only other option was NFL sunday ticket from direct TV - which i think is like $299 so it made sense getting one

makes sense I guess. The HD one really provides a good HDstream? I was wondering if you could record shows with that thing as well?
I dont know too much about the HD one, the regular one works just fine for me - i have a 47 inch 1080p HD tv that i hook it up too from my computer when im not home - gratned the quality itsnt the best but its more then watchable (expecially for streaming media blown up that big) . . . upsteam connections from my house are around 800k, and it uses all that is available which is stable for the most part.
I think i saw somewhere on the website something about a Hard drive and DVR functionality.
looks like there is some 3rd party software that lets you record from it.

Yea I agree skyfire is nice try but not really a feasible thing... especially probably not for VGA devices... Damn ADOBE GET WITH IT...
If Playon transcodes the stream based on pipe size or media renderer, you could easily get uPNP working by setting up a VPN. I haven't heard of many other media servers that will do netflix (at least not stable).

Can the 10.1 stream tv shows?

I am considering purchasing the Tab 2 10.1 and have been reading reviews but haven't come across anything regarding streaming media from the network sites like ABC and CBS. Can anyone tell me how well the Galaxy handles this? I'm also wondering how well the Netflix app runs. Thanks!
Anything you can do on previous Android devices you will be able to do on this tablet. So I would assume that you can.
Well I have a Transformer Prime currently but it constantly reboots when streaming so that's why I'm curious about the Galaxy. Prior to the Prime I had an iPad.
No problems streaming here
I have been able to stream movies from HBO.com, amazon instant videos, and other various websites with no problems... I think as long as you have adobe flash installed it should be fine. I love my new galaxy tab 2 10.1, I was thinking about getting an iPad but am a huge Android OS fan and the new ICS is amazing in tablet form... Its definitely a worth while purchase... I primarily use mine to watch movies and TV either through streaming or downloaded movies and I have no complaints...
Well the netflix app runs flawlessly. It's one of the most used apps on my tab. I haven't streamed through any other apps all though i have installed Hulu and it appears to work as well.
Hulu Plus works great, as does Crackle.

Streaming is the big reason I have ordered Gtab 2 p5113--should be arriving tomorrow. I love my amazon prime videos and can't use it on the "other" device which makes me cranky. Very excited!!
yes, for sure!
And for iptv streams i'm using ITPV application from market
Amazon Prime streams like a champ! Yeah!!

i want to share the love help me or learn a little bit

I just upgraded my rom to the new synergy r111 and i want to share the knowledge of the push of pix music and videos to the xbox as long as your on the same wifi network. Not sure if it matters with the DD-WRT on my router either but with the new additon of XBOX SMART GLASS, I am so impressed with the new xbox update and the new jellybean roms for the S3. If you learned or want to try something new please give me some help so i can thank the developers in the other forum. other than that your welcome to tell me how you knew about this along time ago and how i suck and am old. Happy weekend!
edit: i beleieve its the samsung part of the app that handles this but i cant stress how nice it is to not have to use your controller and push netflix or espn with smartglass from the front page of xbox dashboard or use the samsung push over wifi to watch movies or play music with your phone instantly. (if im vague its because im drunk*)
Yeah, you're vague.
What are you trying to say exactly? That the new Xbox app is cool? Because that's all I got....

That does sound like a neat trick to stream your phone's video playback to - or even control - an Xbox system, actually. We're all Wii here because it's most kid-friendly, but I'm impressed with what you have described.
I'm guessing it's not due to the custom firmware on your router that you mentioned, since Xbox SmartGlass is supposed to offer this function with most smartphones, correct? Or, have you seen elsewhere that some smartphones can't hookup to SmartGlass well?

Screen mirroring to TV or Roku?

Anyone know of a way to mirror the screen from the Maxx HD to a HDTV or Roku box? Something like the apple airplay equivalent. I just got a Roku box and have been playing around with it and I have used apps like Twonky Beam and Juice, which will beam content like music or pictures or video that's stored on the phone to the Roku. But I want to be able to stream anything that's on the screen, like play a concert from Concert Vault on the phone and stream it to the Roku.
Not sure anything like this is available.
Allot of new phones being released will have miracast. This is the technology standard you'll need for android. I'm guessing its a hardware thing so may not come to RAZR HD. ;( hope I'm wrong.

As far as I know Roku still doesn't support dlna, so I don't think you can beam to your TV via the Roku. There is a Plex channel but I think it only streams from a pc on your local network.

HDMI out ?

It looks like Doubletwist for android has airplay support, would work with Apple TV. Have to decide if it's worth it to return my Roku and get an Apple TV. It looks like Concert Vault is no longer free anyways so that was the main reason I wanted it, to stream concert videos from Concert Vault to the TV.

Yes HDMI works but the couple times I tried it the picture was crap.

This phone does have dual band WiFi so it's possible we could see Miracast support in a future update. At least, that's what I'm hoping for because DLNA is kind of a hassle, and really not supported at all by today's streaming apps like Netflix. Recent news says Netflix and YouTube are looking into another protocol called DIAL, which is really an interface where you pick the video, but the box connected to the TV does the streaming from the internet. I think that is the future for this kind of thing. Why should I have to stream it from my phone? Same for music services.
If you're streaming from your own personal collection, then DLNA and PlugPlayer work well if you have a DLNA server and a receiver like a PS3.

I thought Miracast had to be built into the chip, like Tegra 3. Not sure a firmware update would do it.

The only thing required for Miracast is WiFi Direct support (which most devices released in the past year or two have). Assuming we see a 4.2 update, which has Miracast mirroring baked in, all we would need are receivers to display the content (it seems not many exist at this point).

recommendations under $100

Hey guys,
I'm looking at getting my first android stick pc.
I basically want to use it to browse the net, stream movies and episodes off my network (wifi),
I've looked at the MK809III and the CX919.
Is there any preference from these 2, or something better in this price range.
I need pretty decent WiFi strength as my router is a fair way away.
Any advice would be great.
The CX 919 has great reviews and it has also a WiFi antenna

hi waxtah,
if you tell me how you're going to mosty use the stick I can suggest you some of those.
eg, do you plan to use it mostly for media purpose?
do you plan to make a mini-server out of it?
this has ethernet built in (can't paste url right now, see pm)
also you pretty much can add an ethernet port to any stick which has usb support by using an usb-to-ethernet adapter,
I've used some of these and they work just well,
I'm using a CX-919 with an usb-to-ethernet adapter, basically I've made a full blown media/torrent server
jynjbox
i like my jynxbox android tv
The CX919 looks good so far. Has anyone compared the WiFi on this to the Tronsmart MK908? If it is similar then i may get that one as there seems to be more support/software available for it.
Also, with all the air mouse/remotes available, is there a decent recommended one that people commonly use? Not a super expensive one, but not a cheap nasty one either. I dont know if i want a keyboard one or not yet so if you could recommend a good one with and without keyboard, that would be great.
Thanks

basically i want watch movies. and maybe play games. I'm afraid wifi can not be stable for movies. Jesurun looks perfect and price very good. I think it good choice for me. Thank you.
I just got my cx919 yesterday. Fired it up and it was extremely fast. Tried netflix and dlna and playing xvid, mkv, off USB thumb drive . All played well with no hiccups. The only thing I did not care for was the stock ROM. So flashed bobs Finless JB 4.2...Was a bit of a pain to install drivers. BUT got it done and now rooted and no issues with apps from playstore. Have had no issues with wireless. I am going to refresh however as with Finless rom. You get choices on how large you want the partition for apps to be. I had a problem trying to choose the 4gb choice. So I got stuck with the 2gb partition. Yuck. But thats my fault. Overall this little device has handled everything well. I also got a cheap air mouse_kb to go with it. 23 bucks. Total for all was 103. Now. I made my purchase through Amazon. So to have a little peace of mind. Cost me 20 bucks more. But I felt more secure knowing I had some backup if something went wrong. That is purely my choice and opinion. Anyway I love this thing. BTW. Most games play well too. I still have to get a BT controller though. But I have not read of anyone complaining about BT on bobs ROM...at least.
