List of Pre-Installed Apps [on Samsung Devices] - Android General

I have compiled a list of all pre-installed apps on Samsung devices (see attachment as xls and ods), the sources being all similar lists I've found on the various forums here and my own devices (GT-P7501, GT-n8000, GT-S5830). If there were a general 'Samsung Devices'-forum instead of a separate one for each single device, I'd have posted there, but as it is, this seemed the most appropriate place - move this thread if I am wrong .
I'd like to freeze or remove as many superfluous (for me!) apps on my devices as possible, but (as Gandalf said to Saruman - or words to that effect: "He who breaks a thing to find out what it is has deviated from the path of wisdom") I'd like to know exactly what app is what for beforehand.
Any research here and elsewhere is complicated by the facts that not only mostly localized names are used (What is named "Mobile Tracker" on English devices is "uTrack" on German ones) but that sometimes even the app-IDs differ (localized? "Accu Weather Widget" comes as "com.sec.android.widgetapp.ap.hero.accuweather.widget" on one device and "com.sec.android.widgetapp.at.hero.accuweather.widget" on another). And to confuse even more, some come as "com.sec.[some thing or other]" here and just as "com.[some thing or other]" there or are just named differently on different devices and/or Android versions ("Picasa Uploader", "Meine Uploads").
So what I have done is compile this list incorporating as many variants I could detect and the general opinion (from the lists I found here and my own experience) if it is safe to free/remove when not needed. The most important part, for me, is the description. I have filled all I've found here and found out myself, but with quite a few I have no idea what it is for.
It would be great if you, the reader of this, would look over the list and help to fill out the blanks - this might be useful for all of us (or show me that already complete list/database in the other forum that I did not find )

I took a look at your posting and have been able to add some information I've compiled from my Samsung device (Samsung Galaxy Rugby Pro, SGH-I547). I didn't add any apks (ie tetheringprovision.apk that is installed on North American market cellular devices for data plan usages) If possible just double check some of the information I added (to prevent confusion).
Hope it helps
Joe

I need major help!

This is my first windows mobile and im struggling to understand a lot of the jargon that is on this website, also struggling to find out were the apps are to download???? thanks
Fear not ...
A good place to start understanding things is the Wiki: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/ there's a glossary, FAQs and a whole bunch of other useful info
For the apps, well there are many in this very section, also have a look in there http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=528 for more generic WinMo stuff (some of which may or may not work on the HD2, read the threads first )
Apart from here, there are plenty of places to get freeware or paid-for software from, Google will help you find them . Also a form of XDA-Marketplace is currently being worked on, more info on that here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611653&highlight=xda+marketplace
Edit: make a note of your OS, ROM and Manila version - stuff which works for some variants may not work for some others. To check that, go to Settings> About Phone> Software Information
There is a few websites out there for applications, one of which has its own catalogue style application for easy browsing:
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/opnmarket/

[Q] Can anyone identify my phone's chipset from the info posted here?

This page (click link directly below) was generated by the Spec Device app, running on the second phone in my signature:
http://specdevice.com/showspec.php?id=5da0-f9af-35c1-ab480033c587
If it's not there, then the website may have moved it The title of the page should read, samsung GT-I9100.
There's a lot of information here, and I don't know where to look. As you can see after opening the link, none of the lines say, "Chipset name". That would be too easy.
To avoid any confusion, please refer to Owner's Comments for the phone's real name, as was given on its box.
The difference between this, and what you'll read under General Specs / Manufacturer / Model, is my own doing -- an attempt to get Google Play to stop telling me that apps compatible with Android 2.3.5 wouldn't run on my phone. When I sideload these "incompatible" v_2.3.5 apps, they run just fine. I thought letting my phone identify itself as a more-common brand might help.
? Can anyone please point me to the line that gives this phone's chipset, and much appreciated if you could also decipher the abbreviation into a recognizable company name ? ?
Bump!

Telelephony Apps In Custom ROMs

Why do ROM devs include telephony apps in custom ROMS for non-telephony devices? Even Samsung, in their great wisdom, included all of the telephony apps on my Galaxy Tab S (SM-T700). This device is NOT capable of making phone calls, period! I've installed about 15 different ROMs on several different devices, including a Kindle Fire, and they all had telephony apps.
I would think that if one is going to all the effort to create a "custom" ROM one would *customize* it to that device, and that would include gutting it of all unnecessary cruft, and crap. I know how to delete all that stuff and it's one of the first things I do after rooting. But why should I even need to do that?
Am I missing something here?--possible. Am just a dumbass?--again, possible. What I am NOT is a n00b...I've owned and modified and tweaked and broke and fixed numerous PCs since 1983. As well as several android devices over the last few years.
Just so you know, I have all the appreciation and respect in the world for the real experts who do the hard work and provide the fruits of their labor to all of us for free. All they ask is that we make the effort to find the info on xda [use the search function and your brain] and other places ourselves--of course there is nothing like a simple Thank You to show appreciation.

I'm not a dev but it would be my guess that these are included because they are part of the source direct from Android or AOSP. Removing them would probably break many things and cause considerable problems.

I always delete them from my devices [non-telephony type] and have had zero problems. In fact, it frees up RAM and processor resources. I don't recall the names of the folders and files I delete, but I recognize them when I see them...anything with "telephony" or "SIM" or "phone" [NOT Phonesky, that's a Google app that will break Play Store if removed, as I eventually realized]. They are (where) in system/priv-apps and data/data.
Anyways, this is just something I observed and am curious about. I wonder how many folks have those apps on their devices that don't need them, and they are low on resources. Maybe this will prompt a discussion and create awareness. I don't know...

[Completed] How to find phones with the strongest development support?

When I advise or choose a new phone I always make sure to avoid phone with few users and little development. This way, if I have a problem there is a lot of other people out there writing tutorials and posting questions. I'm not alone.
But how do I find how popular development on a phone is?
I used to simply the process by looking at official Cyanogenmod supported phones only... but that is no more. Lineage doesn't give me much indication as to how well supported a phone may become like CM did in that way.
Where might I find:
- number of downloads
- number of users
- number of posts, in a quickly accessible manner
- how's about number of commits on github or a similar code hosting site?
I also usually go for a phone 1-2 years old. So... this sounds like a Nexus. However, the person who is asking me is question me on LG, which I have no experience with.
Hi !
The forum`s website page has built-in lots of filter options and buttons from where you can choose a wide variety of stats
Use the XDA 2013 Beta - 1024 theme format and from the top of the page you can chose top devices https://forum.xda-developers.com/top then chose one and go to its dedicated subforums , development or original development
A live statistic with your desired stats isn`t available on the fly , use those above and you can easily figure out what is interesting to you

Hello,
The Galaxy S7 has multiple variants and builds. Normally when asking this kind of question, you should include the model of your device. That way anyone wanting to help you actually has the knowledge to be able to do so. Phones have different internal parts, memory space, and so on. You can find your model number by doing the following:
- slide down the notification bar, sometimes you may have to slide down twice depending on the device. Click the gear in the upper right hand corner. "Settings"
OR
- Access your app drawer or all apps section and find your "settings" section/app. Most of the time it will have a icon of a gear, or three lines that resemble on off switches. Older androids sometimes use just have three lines (as the settings icon)
- Find the section labeled "About Device / Device Info" its usually labeled something similar if not exactly. Open this section
(Galaxy phones usually have this section at the bottom of your "settings" section)
- Somewhere within this section, there will be a label that reads "Model" and that is your specific variant which is needed in device specific situations.
* Take Note of this for future reference. You might think okay ill remember that. But when you come to realize your devices model number may be XDA-2017T1 and you look for something pertaining your device. You will also find something like this:
XDA-2017
XDA-2017YP
XDA-2017YP2
XDA-2017T0
XDA-2017T2
XDA-2017T10
Assuming that you will continually update and/or customize your phone. You will probably just memorize this, along with other important information. Some important things you should include while researching is as follows (the top two are very important)
1. [Model Number] ex) XDA-2017T1
2. [Android Version] ex) 6.0.1 Marshmallow
3. [Baseband]
4. [Kernel]
5. [Chipset]
6. Is device "rooted?"
7. Is the bootloader unlocked?
8. GSM or CDMA. Older devices even use IDEN
Those are only some.
* I also want you to know that im not trying to lecture you, or give you a hard time. I am honestly trying to help you and in order to successfully help you I have to ensure that you know things, or mention things, that is important to do. So your device isnt broken, or you get information that is correct but incorrect for your specific device.
But back to the topic originally referenced.
Q) "Is the program Dr. Fone able to bypass the screen lock security measures on the Samsung Galaxy S7?"
A) Based on limited information that is device specific, and the current Supported Devices section from Dr Fones documentation
"No"
• Dr. Fone doesnt have the capabilty to bypass your screen lock. They will probably include the S7 within a period of time due to it being a main stream phone though.
• Remember this; locks can and will be broken. Just because a vulnerabilty hasnt been exposed or discovered doesnt mean that its 100% secure.
• Keep current with OTA updates, keep in tune with tech type news.
• Encryption is vast subject, but I can refer to it like the "invisible magical ink" That was popular in the 90's. The light that reveals the ink to the naked eye, is your password. The inabilty to see the ink normally without a specific tool, would be encryption. So if someone cracked your password, your encryption would also be disabled. I linked more information below, for you to read. I still dont fully understand encryption myself, nor do I believe or trust it.
I based this information assuming your device is the SM-G930. It is accurate as possible but not guaranteed. Do realize with the information I mentioned and with the question you asked. I was able to do a simple Google search and almost immediately found the answers. Try to figure things out before you ask in the future. You can repeat the process of not researching prior to posting but typically your post will die. If you get stuck and have put forth honest effort, the great people here at XDA will probably help out greatly. I hope I have helped you, and you now feel better about your concerns. please pay it foward.
If you feel ive helped or gave a honest attempt to help. Hit the thumbs up, that is the thanks button.

I'm sorry, I completely forgot to mention the model of my S7, it is the SM-G930F on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, thanks for answering me.
On the other hand, I'm disappointed that a commercial program can unlock a phone.
I hope that this way of circumventing the locking of smartphones will be solved, because malicious people could use it to unlock phones that do not belong to them ...
The only way to protect yourself from this program is to install an application that protects personal data.
Thank you again for answering!
Wondershare Dr. Fonefor unlooking thr screen.
Wondershare Dr. Fone is a powerful instrument to regain iPhone lost information, it can help scan and recover them from iTunes or iCloud copies in case you've got backup your iPhone into iTunes or iCloud, or it helps you regain contacts directly from the device. Besides it's harmonious with iPhone 5s/5c/4S/ / 4/3GS and it might recover 18 kinds of content such as pictures, videos, contacts, messages, notes, and phone log, voicemail, voice memos, calendars, reminders, etc.. :good:
I agree with you. A commercial program available for a few dollars can unlock a password protected phone. What is Android/ios waiting to solve this threat?
