Where would you be getting the JB apps to install them on ICS? IF you use the play store you would have to somehow trick it into thinking you had a JB device for the app to even be selectable to install. If you can manage to get the JB app and you try to install it do you get an error?

ICS can't install some JB apps

[Q] How to use stock Gingerbread apps with AOKP Jelly Bean?

Hello,
I am using an unofficial AOKP JB build (25 Nov 2012), and it works quite well. However, some stock apps on it are not to my tasting (e.g., phone, contacts, etc). I really liked the feel and look of those apps in good old Gingerbread. Is there any way I could install/use them in AOKP JB? As far as I know, the stock GB is odexed, and the AOKP JB is deodexed, so it is impossible just to swap the apps in /system/app.
I would appreciate any suggestions or comments. Thank you.

Depends - some of the touchwiz-specific ones will require edits to framework (and maybe services) and likely a few other places to retain full functionality. Were such edits in place you could then drop in (as AOKP is deodexed) any of the deodexed system apps (I would rexommend pulling them from the stock ICS build myself) into /system/app - there's a zip full of said deodexed apps in the Tweaked OP (1.x has GB ones, 2.x has ICS ones) if you get to that point.
I tried to use apps from stock deodexed 2.3.6, but it did not work. Do you think I will have more luck with apps from stock deodexed ICS? Do I just put deodexed *.apk in /system/app or there is more to it? At what stage are binaries and other relevant files created from apk? Thanks!

More luck... most likely. The issue will be when the new-to-AOKP apk starts calling methods that don't exist in the jellybean-based framework - it will likely be an iterative process of try it, fail but get a logcat, see why it failed, try to track down what was missing from a tw framework, throw it in the aokp framework, and try again - and then lather rinse repeat. And that is all assuming no hiccups hit along the way, which never seems to be the case. While it sounds pretty labor-intensive, and will likely make you want to pull your hair out, it can be pretty fun trying to figure it all out. Good luck!

[Q] 4.2 Clock App on ICS?

I was wondering if I flashed or installed the Clock App from 4.2 on ICS 4.0.4 will it work or will it ruin the ROM and make me redo everything? I want to know if its even possible to flash or install the 4.2 version of the Clock App on ICS 4.0.4?
Thanks

Won't work. However, you can install Clock JB if you want the Jellybean clock. If you need the alarm too, you'll have to spend a small amount to get Clock JB+ instead.
I tried that today and it didnt work. However if you copy and paste deskclock from cm10.1 to cm10 it worms just great I so much more prefer the 4.2 clock over 4.1 app.

Yea well I need the 4.2 or 4.1 Clock for ICS 4.0.4 and I'd really prefer not to install an app from the Market cause I want to keep everything as Stock as possible. Just the way I am i dont know aha

[Q] Incompatible apps after installing CM10

Hi,
I recently installed CyanogenMod 10 on my HTC Sensation.
Since then, I can't install several useful apps for me from the Google PlayStore, and I get a message "this version is incompatible with your device" (I had the same apps on my phone when I was on a stock Android ICS).
I tried to modify the build.prop file of my phone to make it look like a Samsung nexus S, following a tutorial I found. Then I wiped the playstore cache, rebooted, but no change.
What can I do ?
Thank you for your help !

What apps are you looking at? That gives us a start to figure out what the problem is.
Also, what version of CM10 did you install? Bruce's Kang? The Official Nightly? Bruce's kang of CM10.1?
Did you change the DPI? That often causes the play store error you are talking about.
If all else fails do a full wipe and start over. Something might just be screwy in your install. But this is not a super common problem on CM10. So we can probably isolate what you are doign differently and fix it.
I mostly want to download French apps i used to have on my HTC before i installed CM10 (Société Générale, Qype, Allociné...)
I have Bruce's CM10 version "10-20130103-bruce2728-pyramid"... I don't know if it's the reference you were looking for. I downloaded it on this page : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1782009
I haven't change any DPI and never heard of something like this. Can you tell me more, if it has a chance to solve the problem ?
It could just be that those apps aren't ready for JB yet... Search for those apps + Jelly Bean in Google and see if there are any results saying anything about whether it's compatible or not, if they're working on updating them so they are, etc...
All the apps i'm refering to were working on my phone when i had a stock Android Jelly Bean.
Only since i installed CM10 they are shown as incompatible...

There is no stock jelly bean for the Sensation. Ice cream sandwich is as far as stock development went.
So you weren't running stock jb.
Changing DPI would have only broken compatibility. If you don't know what it is then you didn't mess with it.
I assume you set up cm10 to run in French. If not maybe that's it?

You're right. I was running a stock Android 4 ICS. My mistake ! And the apps were working with this version.
But a friend has a galaxy s3 with jb, and the apps work on his phone. So they are actually compatible with jelly bean.
I have CM10 in French.

Maybe someone else running Bruce's ROM can try searching these apps in playstore and see if they have a similar problem.
Running a DK version of 4.2.1 they show and would install from the playstore for me...
Have you reflashed the phone and tried this? I'm not sure what Bruce's ROM tags the phone as by default but it would appear either through a change made or the ROM it's not flagging as a compatible device.
I would have suspected DPI (image size) change but we seem to have cleared that as an issue already.

I tested the ones you mentioned on CM 10 official nightly and they install as they should.
HTC Sensation XE
Does anything else install from the play store or is it only the French stuff?
Maybe you had something go screwy during install of either the ROM or the gapps?

Can i have inverts on stock jelly bean?

guys i need help, i have stock jelly bean 4.1.1 on my nexus s, and i wanted to have that black bean or inverted messaging, contacts and calendar for my phone, i tried using someone's help and i ended up restoring my phone twice, once i replaced the original one and then used twrp to flash it, but everytime it said messaging has stopped unfortunately need help regarding this please, if someone can help me get a few pointers how to replace my apps with inverted ones, hurts my eyes too since i have weak eyes
PS yes i'm rooted
Why don't you just flash blackbean or some other 4.2.2 rom that supports dark-toggled gapps and system apps? What's hindering you?

well because they're not probably as stable as the stock rom? is what i've read probably ... if it is then i'll give it a go, and i have twrp by the way, it's the easiest to work with in my opinion, can it be done using twrp? i've had bad experience with cwm

[Q] BMM compatible MIUI Rom?

I just want to make a sincere request to all our developers.
Would it be possible to port MIUI ROM such that it can be installed in partitions other than 1. Like the ROMs we already have.
Currently I've JB Leak 1 installed in System 1 and I want to keep it as it is.
Thanks.
Miui v4 and 5 both bmm compatible.. U need to check the development thread..

I understand what you are trying to say. But my concern is, for MIUI, we need to install it over official JB leak 3. And we cannot install official jb leaks on any other partitions. So how will I install MIUI on other partitions? Can't we have a KEXEC type ROM which can be installed just like all other ROMs??

Make a backup of the jb leak 3 via BMM and then restore it on another system then flash miui on top of that.
If I had a dollar for every time I said that, I'd be making money in a very weird way.

I have MIUI on my system 4 it shouldn't be a problem
Use this link if your on the Asia or ME865 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2362411 (its got nightly updates)
For AT&T model use this one which i use its from some Chinese website translated in this forum (It requires a BMM compatible patch that you need to zip )
