Replacement back - Galaxy S 4 Accessories

I was looking to replace the plastic back on my S4 SGH-i337 and I saw that the i9500 has replacement backs that are brushed aluminium. Would that fit onto the SGH-i337? I just want to get rid of the AT&T logo on the back and get a more durable feeling back on it all together.
Here's the i9500 replacement. Thanks in advanced.
Edit* I cannot post outside links as I don't have 10 posts. I've just been sitting on this account lurking rather than posting and that's bitten me in the ass.
Instead here's what to search for on amazon.

Based on what I've read regarding metal backplates for phones... It's best to avoid them as they will hinder your cell reception.
I guess it's along the line of a Faraday Cage.

Dang, I'm just looking for something to put on the backplate that feels a little bit more sturdy than the original back. Any idea what would be the best recommendation for that stuff.

I have the Ringke Fusion. But I'm not a huge fan of it. Yes I'd love to see the reviews. Which is your favorite and most fair price for quality.

How did yours do as far as reception? Any loss in that at all or does it seem to stay around the same?

Sorry if I'm hijacking your thread but this seemed applicable. Does anyone know of a white replacement back that are grippier or have a bit more texture than the stock one? I know they made black soft touch replacement backs for the S3. And no I don't want to use a case.

Try one of these. They dont appear to be soft touch though. Only other backs I found that werent oem or aluminum. Thinking of trying one since I hate the black mist back.

[Q] Can we get a new battery door?

All of these cases you see on Amazon and Verizon and nobody has considered machining a new battery door out of aluminum or something? The cheap plastic has gotta be the #1 thing a lot of people hate about this phone, and I would definitely be willing to pay $15-20 for a nice metal back.
Does Samsung have some kind of patent that prevents this?

I suspect a metal door would interfere with the antennas, wouldn't it?
On the Nexus S, some guy had the same complaint about the plastic feeling cheap, he came up with a mod that involves spraying some rubber coating on it. Seems popular, cheap, easy, and reversible.

most other oem's use metal doors...samsung seems to be the only fan of plastic. there might be something you have to do to prevent interference but it has to be possible.
thanks for that thread, though. that is a great idea. i'll be stopping at home depot on the way home from work

It would be nice if we could get something like a soft-touch black plastic battery door for better grip/nicer feel/less fingerprints. Also might be more functional than a metal door on our Charges. The antennas are on the bottom-back of the phone for some reason.
Samsung doors
I called Samsung today and they have two different doors you can buy I believe still plastic but have a nicer look and one somehow charges or keeps the battery charged longer (nvm it is only a inductive bacK). What I get for believing them lol, but anyways just thought I would share what I found.

I would have thought someone would construct a case back that would
feel like the HTC thunderbolt's, with a nice machined brush finish
of "SamSung" across the back. Would look really nice, I'd think.

The funny part is the shape and cutouts of the pictured cover match the Charge.
Would really love to see a more grippy battery door with kickstand for this phone. I'm looking to replace my Thunderbolt with a Charge and I know I'm going to really miss the kickstand.
The Samsung holster/case combo looks nice, but it's going to add unwanted bulk and I'm pretty sure it won't fit in the car and desk docks with the case on.
Samesung's Website
That pic I posted is directly from Sammy's website so don't know why you feel it isn't legit. Unless Samsung is teasing us or posting a false picture lol...Anyways here is the link...http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/EBC-994WBEBSTD?
I tried Phantom skinz carbon fiber wrap to add some texture for better grip on this phone but ended up not liking it and peeled it off.
Recently went with the plastidip spray on stuff and it works much better. 2 coats of it are working great adding a good grippy feel to the back battery cover. Hope that helps.

Any chance of pictures of your finished product? Did you spray both the inside and outside of the battery door?
Only did the outside of the cover, no point in doing the inside as well.
Looks pretty good. I hope coveroo comes up with something soon...

Seemed like people were doing the inside as well to make it harder to peel off, but I don't know if it'd make a difference.
Does the phone still fit in the Car and Home dock with the back sprayed?
I don't have any official docks so I can't guarantee, but it adds very little thickness... unless the phone is already snug in the dock it will be fine.

Rubber feet to protect the glass and unmuffled sound

So I wanted to protect the back glass with a screen protector since I would generally be laying the phone down on it's back. I got one of those "apply when wet" guards and it went on ok. The only problem is, the material is so soft, it basically makes a seal on a flat table which cuts off the speaker completely. I only noticed when I was missing text messages, that the sound was significantly reduced from laying it down.
So I got these rubber feet So far, so good. I was afraid they would come right off, but they are on there pretty good. If they do come off, I still have 92 left! I might remove my back screen protector, if these work out. They aren't too hard to get used to when holding, but they certainly don't look the greatest. I attached some pics.

OP's idea is amazing! Agreed that the circular ones look ugly, but say something like two thin strips along the length of the phone, or two horizontal ones along the top and bottom curves?
How does one go about getting custom shapes like that?

agree, dont really like the idea of those rubber nubs, but I would think something a little less aggressive or strips running down the sides or tops. I like the idea, just not as pronounced.
I thought of this some time ago and actually sourced some 3M manufactured ones in transparent polyurethane with an acrylic adhesive. They make them as small as 6.4mm X 1.9mm. I have not found anywhere that sells them in anything less than bulk so I didn't order any. I am waiting to try a few more cases before I decide whether to do this, but am pretty happy with the diztronic TPU for now. My Poetic hardback is supposed to be here tomorrow. I am guessing that if the Poetic works well, and the phone will fit in it with the 3M pads on, I may go for it.
i bet you could find something at michaels.
It's not something I'd do, because how the device looks is a major selling point for me and this doesn't look great.
Not saying it's bad though, it's actually a very clever idea. I do worry about the back getting scratched and the muffled speaker is annoying, so nice job man

I have some extra feet from an old laptop that were supposed to go in the four corners of the screen so the screen wouldn't press against your keyboard. They're maybe 0.5cm wide. Definitely been thinking about doing this myself.
However, I got the bumper instead. Which is now making me think I might plastidip the backside of it so it becomes uber grippy.

Honestly, if you were gong to do something like this, I would suggest a few things.
Go to a cabinetry or hardware store, to look for the bumpers. You would be surprised at what they have.
A better solution, which I was thinking of is dynamat, the non aluminum version.
Take a sheet of plain paper, use a pencil to make an exact tracing of the back of the phone. Use the rubbing method to make sure you know the exact edges.
Overlay onto the dynamat, and use an exact knife to cut out your new back, and add sound channels. But it seems like a lot of work though.

Bought a new carbon fiber back battery cover

I purchased a carbon fiber look battery cover from ebay and so far I'm pretty satisfied with it. Even though the 4 is roman numeral that's not really a big issue to me. It adds a more premium look and feel to the s4 so that's a big thumbs up! Below are a few pics taken from my iPad. Please have a look. Thanks!

I hate to be the only negative one here but I've had these on the Galaxy S III and unfortunately I was very very disappointed. These are clearly cheapo chinese-made when you feel them, and the back is not even close to carbon fiber, it feels like tightly stitched cloth strings (which is most likely what it is). I know it's supposed to imitate a carbon fiber look but when you know what carbon fiber is supposed to feel like (Motorola smartphones, car mods, the actual material, etc..) it just ruins the whole experience feeling a knock-off every time you pick up the phone. But I guess that's what you can expect when you pay $10 for it. I am constantly looking for a legit expensive TRUE-carbon fiber cover (let it be even $60-70+ if it has to), it will be worth every penny in the end. I have seen a few projects done for the Galaxy S III and I will say these are the real deal here. Links below:

Once again, no knock against the look here but just remember you get what you pay for. Real Carbon Fiber is not a cheap material.

I had one of these for my S3 (Best $10 I ever spent!). It does add a very small amount of thickness to the case (less than 1 mm and less than any case I've seen). I am glad it is that way because since camera lens is recessed, it is protected from being scratched.
i agree the camera recessed is better for protection just had to throw out that the case obviously differs from stock and does "add" thickness as clearly seen in the first pic..

I just one of these also. I am also pretty happy with it: It has more grip than the stock back cover, also, as you can see in OP's post, it has a tiny ridge to protect the camera lens. Also, it is well made, fits well and I think it looks better than the stock cover.

I didn't watch the video with sound yet... but it doesn't look like a full aluminum case... just a bumper (ie, the back isn't covered) so there should be no signal loss. He also stated there is "doesn't off(er) protection to back & camera.". So I think its just a bumper.
There are other threads that show that you have no issues w/ wireless unless you use an aluminum back.

Yes, you're right. It is a bumper case. I've heard even with the full aluminum cases that you only lose one bar of signal so it still wouldn't be that bad.
You never said where you got it from, dude, lol.

Yeah.. I did.. I got it from ebay. I explained that in the video and on annotations. Only reason I didn't post a link is because ebay links change a lot. Just go on ebay, type in Luxury Aluminum Bumper Galaxy S 4, look for a US seller, and look for an aluminum bumper picture with indents on the side of the case. You'll find it. I highly recommend it too btw. I've been using it for a week and it looks great and feels good in the hand.

You said in the video that you were leery of dropping it, does the sliding part feel nice and tight? I'm really happy with my Spigen Neo Hybrid, but I'm a real casewhore, lol. I get bored quickly, so I have to own a lot of options

After installing it right the second time, it does feel nice and tight. Don't worry I am too . Its like 15 dollars with free shipping. It is totally worth it! It does give the phone a premium feel and look!
They're buy one get one half off for the next couple of hours from dz-tech store on eBay! I picked up two for my s4 and two for my gf's s3

Exactly! :good:
Very good review. Couple suggestions... turn off auto-focus on your camera and then pick up a piece of white posterboard stock and a couple of desk lamps at Target or K-Mart. Something along the lines of this. With your existing good narration, your videos will be near pro quality.

Yeah but try using NFC with a full aluminum case. There is a reason Apple makes the top and bottom of the back of the iPhone 5 out of glass. instead of it being edge to edge aluminum on the back. Full aluminum definitely affects reception.

Very true! But some people don't even know what NFC is! Some don't even use it. Lol

Apple actually puts the bluetooth and wifi radios under the glass pieces on the back panel. So they probably didn't see it as being a good idea to put those under the aluminum as well. An aluminum bumper with a nice glass, polycarbonate back could work well though.

Interesting... It's an aluminum copy of the Eclipse case without the kickstand... They even copied the cutout to bring the sound to the front.
I had one of those before, you lose a bit of signal strength, but not bad. The case looks bad on a black S4, but could look nice on a white one. I bought one for $15. I personally don't recommend it.
Aluminum case
I just purchased one from Amazon for the S4 I9500 and I am losing about 2 bars of signal. It looks great and the entire back is true carbon fiber. I like the case but would like to find a way to increase the signal.
Not worth buying
Anything that affects the signal of the phone is not worth buying. And you mentioned that you are losing about 2 bars? I would rather prefer other materials for the Back Cover like Carbon Fiber or even Plastic (as long as it has the same quality as the original)
Are nice but if I´m going to lose signal, I prefer don´t buy one. I do not really see too practical.
I will continue using Flip cover until something I like appears.
