[Q] "Cool Tool" on the bottom bar on JB 4.2 - Asus Transformer TF700

Reviewing old screenshots, I saw that I could put on ICS labels and gauges of COOL TOOL apk in the bottom bar, now I try on JB but I canĀ“t put them in the lower area. I guess it's because JB uses that area well to lock the screen or for other purposes. Am I right?
ICS attached picture where you can see how the label of COOL TOOL is in the middle of the bottom.

I believe JB does not allow drawing over the system UI bar.

Well, really it`s a bummer because since there beneath the black background it looked great and did not bother the rest of the screen..... but we can`t have everything.

How to install:Important!
You will need to download Koush's bootstrap application and bootstrap your recovery. Then you can boot into recovery via the same app or you can install via ROM Manager(by rebooting into recovery, not via install rom from sdcard). Once you boot into recovery do a FULL nandroid backup and then you go to mounts and storage and mount /system manually to avoid more issues. Install zip from sdcard and toggle signature verification to disable. Now you can install the zip from the sdcard. Once this is done, reboot.
Now for the download

Thanks for all the hard work man!
I was currently in the process of installing Epic Unleashed 1.1! when I just saw this, lol.
I'm having the "stuck on the M screen" after I installed Epic Unleashed 1.1 from Bootstrapper and restarting the phone. I've pulled the battery and everything loads up fine but didn't see Epic under the Android Version.. So I tried to reboot the phone using bootstrapper recovery.. It then becomes stuck on the M screen again.
Additionally.. I tried using Rom Manager to get into Recovery mode but I just get a screen of the Android with a !.. What are my options at this point?

I like it. Blur removal is similar to Tranquility Rom, which I like.
A few minor issues though:
1. As stated earlier, notification text is still black: date, sdcard, and any text displayed similar as these items.
2. Progress bars have vertical white lines breaking it up. Does not look nice.
3. Swype is busted after flash, but if you install the one from the Droid 2 dump you can get past this issue.
4. It does not appear that you include all of the FM radio libraries and servies. You include the APK and one library, but you are missing the other two libraries in system/lib and you are missing the FM radio service in system/bin. This will cause the FM radio to not work.
Again these issues are minor, and overall I like Epic 2.0. Look forward to the polishing. I think it is almost there. Thanks for your efforts.

The progress bars are blur it self, not my doing. This does not completely remove blur as I stated before. Swype was removed from the system/app folder because I got a email requesting its removal threatening legal action. I will look at the FM radio. Sorry about that, just found the apk and threw it in there. Didn't know I needed extra things Thanks for telling me!

Cool, Swype is no big deal or the radio thing.
I am curious about the progress bar. I am not referring to the moving angled white bars, but I am referring to new straight bars that are breaking up the progress bar into segments. I know the scrolling angled white bars are normal, but not the white lines running completely vertical that don't move(I think I said horiz early but I meant vertical).

I didn't see it on Tranquility. Are you sure it doesn't have to do with the framework edits to get the black bar? I don't mean directly, but maybe indirectly. It is a curious artifact either way. Kind of jarring in the UI.
Anyways, thanks again for the good work.
Sorry to bring up another issue; I have an eye for out of place things.
I noticed when you are pulling down the notification window, you see a transparent box extending past the notification drawer. It is faint, but once you see it, you can't unsee it. You can see it in mid pull, it is a bit odd.
Try it when you have an application with a white screen like the browser.

I see. Your probably right. It is one of those things you don't notice until you notice it. I have noticed a number of quirks with the blur theme on a stock phone, so you are probably right. It's like they don't have quality control.
update: I just did a nandroid restore of my Tranquility Rom and noticed that these blur quirks do not exist on my phone, neither the black notification box or the progress bar issue. It appears these issues can be fixed. Maybe you should contact the Tranquility guy.
Yours and his are very similar, but the black bar got me and I flashed yours, these quirks though really distract for me. I hope you can figure theme out. Who knows, maybe when I get some free time, I will look into myself.

[Q] System Bar Disappointment

I took hold of my transformer yesterday and love every aspect of it bar one.
The one issue that means I'm probably going to send it back is the Honeycombs inability to hide the system bar.
I really only purchased the tablet to use as a portfolio device (I'm a photographer). I wanted to take advantage of the high resolution screen to show off my images at 1280x800 but the system bar sits on top of everything totally ruining the look of images/video. Not being able to hide the system bar is a huge oversight by the Honeycomb developers and sadly probably means I'm going to have to switch to a bloody I-pad 2, which I would prefer not to do.
Does anybody know of any tricks to hide the system bar?
I dont have my transformer/honeycomb yet but when i look at images/videos on my xperia mini pro using the gallery app they are full screen.
You can try using LauncherPro because it has a 'hide notification bar' setting in the preferences. Not sure if it just works for the homescreen or all apps.

There are apps that let you force full screen mode.
Also I use it for showing my portfolio and the default gallery fades the icons. Besides I can tell you showing your portfolio on this generally is not a good idea, unless its just a quick show, don't ever use it for interviews.

I've seen the hiding of the icons but it still leaves a large black bar across the bottom of the screen. The images need to fill the screen.
Why is it not a good idea to use this as a portfolio apart from the system bar problem?
Also I've tried a few other launchers ADW and Launcher pro neither of them can hide the system bar.

It's good for a quick show at lets say a get together, but for an interview or client the screen really isn't big enough to see the details for most people. Maybe you can because you're used to it, but other people tend to have trouble with it.

haven't looked at specific gallery apps that do it but I know a few other apps I use that can do it.
EDIT: The use of the tablet for portfolio needs is from experience by the way an instance where I did find it useful if I went to some launch party or similar to show it to people or when I'm touching base with clients to give them a rough idea of what it will look like (wireframes and such), I do photography and graphic design by the way.
Sadly I think I am going to have to accept defeat on this.
I'm sure someone will create a launcher that can hide the System bar in the future but I don't want to wait around for that to happen.
I'ts such a shame as otherwise it's a lovely tablet but with the system bar in the way the images will only ever be 1280 x 700 with a black line across the bottom.
I can not find any apps that force full screen they all leave the system bar in place.
Quick Pic was brilliant in fullscreen in Android 2.2 but Honeycomb has rendered it less effective.

In the end it's more do you want android or iOS.
I do however own an iPad 2 and I gotta say the transformers screen is equal in quality, and has an edge over the iPad even with the black bar due to resolution and size.
I'm having issues with the system bar too. I'm trying to create a PDF brochure/demo but the 50px bar ***** up the full zoom mode as the PDF pages are 1280x800.
I'm using ezPDF - does anyone know an alternative which can force full screen mode and hide the system bar?
never ceases to amaze me what people whine about

true, however, returning a device that is 3 weeks old, with brand new firmware, because 50pixels worth of the screen is displayed when you are demo-ing photos is a tad ridiculous. Demoing hi-res photography on 1280x800 10'' screen is already ridiculous, but i digress. How much extra detail is the client really going to experience from 50 pixels worth... come on now, its just plain ol' *****ing. And the smooth reference of 'well the ipad2 doesn't do that' rubbed me the wrong way. Ipad2 is a great device, maybe the OP should return his TF and get the ipad2
I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab recently and was seriously bummed out to see the retarded behavior of the photo gallery.
The built-in gallery works right on my Samsung Android phone. And it hits all the right notes on my Galaxy Tab 7" as well. Just as it did on my ipad.
Honeycomb gallery is extremely dumb. It just makes me mad every time I have to use it.
I guess I'll have to just write my own. Watch for it on Android Market in a few weeks. I might as well start taking feature requests and name suggestions for the app.

[Q] Hide System Bar on ICS?

maybe something like THIS?

me either - sorry guys
From what I understand, Google pretty much locked it out completely, so it's impossible at the moment to hide the status bar. It's really annoying. :/
From the author of Honeybar: "*** Important note for ICS users: Honeybar is unsupported on ICS and will not hide the UI bar. I have examined the source for ActivityManagerService and it currently appears impossible to stop com.android.systemui"

Damn that sucks. I hope Google changes their mind or someone finds a way around this problem. I find it extremely irritating to use video and reading apps with the system bar at the bottom.
I guess I will stick with Android 3.2 for now.
There's a tweak for the Galaxy Nexus that remove the bottom bar entirely, and the person who posted it says to use ButtonSavior (on the market) to replace the soft keys. The newest AOKP rom also includes a feature to remove the navigation bar which I assume is pretty much the same as the bar on tablets.
The mod is over on RootzWiki, not sure if I can post links to it, or if it will work for the TF or could be adapted for it.
See, it's things like this that make me wonder. Why in the world would google, or anyone, lock things down so much that nobody can change anything? Disabling the status bar in honeycomb didn't do any harm. I never heard a single complaint of a bricked tablet or software problem because of disabling the status bar.

Where? Searched for "status" "system" "bar" "hide" in varying combinations as well as individually. Could you point me in the right direction. TIA.
From looking around the framework-res etc what i have seen that ICS is based on a theme called holo. Now if we could modify the framework-res and strip the black and make it transparent it should be able to be done. Decompiling it has been no problem however I am too new at themeing to provide any definite answers to recompile framework-res as i have tried but it just will not register as a proper apk. There is one issue with that however, the holo theme is involved with almost everything to do with the system. Example backgrounds for the menu system and the onscreen keyboard and a pile of other stuff plus the assorted icons would still be present back button home apps button clock and wifi.
All the edits were because my cursor diappeared.

How to remove ugly drop shadows?

Recently got the Pixel 3a and love it. The only thing that bothers me, on dark wallpapers, the notification bar has a greyish backdrop under it. Is there anyway to remove this from both the home screen and the app switcher screen? Nova launcher seems to clear it from the home screen, but the app switcher still has it.
I can't attach photos to show, but just set a pure black wallpaper then look at the top of the screen.
Could you try using a different launcher? I think Nova Laumcher has a option to show/hide shadow on desktop.

Unfortunately, I don't have a solution for this, but I still wanted to add, that I had my 3a sent in for repair partly for this exact behavior.
I can't link a photo atm, but on a solid black wallpaper I could see ~4 brighter bars at the top of the screen, and something similar at the bottom (like LCD/LED displays suffer from clouding, but technically impossible on an OLED). I recommend you to turn on the screen rotation of the Pixel Launcher, because it follows orientation, therefore proving it's not a hardware issue per se.
Like you said, it doesn't appear on screenshots either, so it is beyond recognition of screen capture. Another software layer maybe.
Could you also carefully check dark greys and blacks of any video? Those colors seemed to be muddy for me, especially noticeable when using a black filter dimmer in CF Lumen.
Also, I might add that my Pixel didn't have this issue for the first months, it suddenly appeared and was even gone for one day before sticking.
So yeah, I guess I had this exact issue as well, let me know if you find out anything and I'll make sure to let you know how my repair went.

Yeah, you can see the grey gradient at the top. It's like a backdrop on the status bar. Yours looks a bit worse than mine though, as mine doesn't stand out as bad as yours. What that is called, is gradient banding. And I checked some dark videos for you and don't see it in videos. Also, my grey backdrop at the top doesn't have banding, it's a smooth gradient. You can google gradient banding to see examples of what it looks like.

Gotcha, I always described it as if a gradient got its color depth reduced, good to know there is an actual term for that.
And thanks for checking the greys. My whole display was affected by this issue, rendering darker tones what felt like yellowish/greenish, looking muddy.
And to reiterate, it became like this from one second to another, so if anything broke, you might be affected before noticing, because for you it looked like this from the start, from what I understood. I hadn't had a chance to compare it to another 3a, maybe that's something for you to check, just to be sure.
Still, I'll let you know when I get mine back, if the repair helped and if they found the culprit, or if I'm going crazy entirely.

I don't have a rotted device....yet. I might consider doing it soon. Is this just a custom file with the backdrops removed?

Yes, just an edited Pixel Launcher.
Quick update as promised:
I have my 3a back and they told me they replaced the device instead of repairing it.
The banding is now gone (of course), but the drop shadow is still there, although barely noticeable. Hopefully the other suggestion worked out for you.
So thanks for telling me about banding and sorry for a possible confusion. Really glad to be back on team 3a though.
