Not sure if this is what you're looking for but samba filesharing allows your android device to appear as a drive on your network.
ES File Explorer is the easiest way to set up a smb share for it
Ah misread it - you want it the other way around..... Yeah go down the samba route.

try SwiFTP app
I've been able to browse my server no problem, with both Es File Manager and upnplay
not been able to get anything working the other way.
On my android phone i've run an FTP server (called FTPServer) and then simply FTP into the device.
Or you might use Dropbox to sync folders?
can get the transformer seeing my windows shares using Ghost Commander and SMB addon.. unlike the astro one, it doesn't seem to FC.. hope this helps
How about using WebSharingLite app?

Probably because Google doesn't allow us access to needed routines - damn them.
Hey guys, Can anyone recommend me a good app to transfer stuff from my PC to my Note wirelessly?
Ive been using Air Droid, which is good but requires me to be at my computer which kinda defeats the purpose.
Sometimes with big files like ROMs I download them from my PC, but would like a quick way to transfer them to my phone without the USB lead.
I would like an app that allows me to just connect to my pc and allow me to browse all the files on my PC and select several at once to send them to my Note.
What apps can you recommend ? Preferably free.
Thanks
A-D
you can try webkey https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.webkey
If you have a samba/cifs share on your computer you can use ES explorer
TotalCmd connects to almost anything

On your computer, make a share for each drive you want to access from your phone. Make sure you have a password on your windows account or it 'generally' doesn't work with Windows 7.
I even VPN to home from anywhere in the world and I can access all my files...free, all in house. For my VPN server I just use a WRT54G with DDWRT [old school].
File expert. Easy and great!

Hi All,
I have a wifi connection which can be connected to both pc and mobile. I need a great app for file transfer between my cell and pc without using data cable. ie using wifi. Please suggest.
Thanks,
Arun
I'm not sure about phone to pc, but for pc to phone, there's Awesome Drop. Not sure if that helps or not, sorry if it didn't.

Awesome Drop uses their servers and therefore requires a full internet connection. The OP is looking for an app like Airdroid which operates directly over your Wi-Fi and therefore needs no internet connection (plus it can do a lot more than file transfers).
If you search it for Android, maybe try Airdroid? It allows you upload or download files to/from your phone.
Thanks to it you can also write SMS using your computer and sent it from mobile

I use Kies for this purpose but i think its only for samsung phones or i get wrong ? You can try search it at google play.

samba file sharing
free n simple to use
I agree with math.NUR.
Just set up SMB/CIFS file sharing on your PC and access it via a file manager that supports it like the ES File Explorer File Manager.
I vote dropbox.

True I upload to drop box all the time then download to other devices or my laptop etc
Is there a simple way to share files via Wifi? In similar way to sharing through Bluetooth, or as similar as possible.
It's just that my device doesn't have bluetooth and I need the ability to share files swiftly with others.
airdroid.
works well if a bit slow.

That doesn't seem like what I'm looking for. I want a simple way to send files between two Android devices using Wifi, just like one would do using Bluetooth.
Perhaps add a "send via wifi" option.
WiFi Transfer
Give this a try:

I keep seeing "Web interface" in it. Does this require the other end to use a browser?
I think on Galaxy phones, when you click share, you'll see Bluetooth and Text messages and Email along with Share Via Wifi. Is there an app that does that?
Hey guys!
Thanks to scrosler's brilliant discovery that all it takes is a simple "Yes" response from a server to enable tethering and seeing his method of modifying the TetheringProvision.apk file in oder to replace the entitlement.mobile.att.net with his server I just thought why not simply edit the HOSTS file in /etc ???
So I fired up root explorer and opened /etc/hosts, then put as first line:
74.208.15.145 entitlement.mobile.att.net
save/exit
That's it !! Now I was able to go to my own server and look in the log file what exact URL the phone is calling and found it's calling /mhs1
So I put a index.html unter /mhs1 that just reads "Yes" *with no newline afterwards!*
And voila!
Hotspot activates!
P.S. I encourage everyone with the possibility to do that to use their own server. Maybe Scrosler will be so generous to host the /mhs1 index.html on his server as well and provide his IP address. This IP here is a test server that is probably going to go offline in about 1 month.
And it gets even easier...
Using any of the ad-blockers out there (I use AdAway), just enter the HOST entry in the manual redirect list. Now it's not even necessary any more to browse to the /etc/hosts file
See attachment!
Or you could just use this. Even easier.

Oh cool! I didn't know ES now does that. Like foxfi it seems to trick the hotspot into turning on. I personally like the stock experience best with a quick widget on the home screen. That's why I used to hack the framework.
Good to know that now we have several options

Do we have to be rooted to use ES net manager?
Probably a dumb question.
Oh cool. . People confirmed it is working workout root. .
