Sharing files through wifi!? - General Questions and Answers

Is there a simple way to share files via Wifi? In similar way to sharing through Bluetooth, or as similar as possible.
It's just that my device doesn't have bluetooth and I need the ability to share files swiftly with others.

airdroid.
works well if a bit slow.

That doesn't seem like what I'm looking for. I want a simple way to send files between two Android devices using Wifi, just like one would do using Bluetooth.
Perhaps add a "send via wifi" option.

I keep seeing "Web interface" in it. Does this require the other end to use a browser?
I think on Galaxy phones, when you click share, you'll see Bluetooth and Text messages and Email along with Share Via Wifi. Is there an app that does that?

Adhoc file transfer between 2 Android phones?

Hey
I want to use WiFi to transfer files from one Android phone to another Android phone. The only way to do this is thru a Adhoc connection (without a router). Is there a app that allows me to do this?
Thanks
I dont think so
Please add me on twitter. Just search for AndroidPhoneOS
Don't forget its Android, anything is possible, just need to find out a way.
Isn't bluetooth sufficient? Some apps allow you to view the other phone's files.
Enable wifi tethering on one phone and connect the other phone. Then use FTP or something to transfer files.
I don't have an extra phone to try this, but it should work.
I believe this is what you are after:

A 100MB file took about 50 minutes. WiFi would have allowed it to go much faster.

No. Hoccer works like a cloud so you need a internet connection.
It works !!!
I'm using "Wireless Tether for Root Users" , "DroidFTP PRO" and "ANDFTP".
The transfer via adhoc works perfect !!!

I am using a program called ZAPYA from playstore (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dewmobile.kuaiya). It is exactly what you want. You can transfer at lightning speed.. even full movies in few seconds without need for routers...Create a group from one mobile and Search & Join the group from other mobile/Tablet. It will do all other things for you. Very simple to connect and transfer files. We use this will all our devices.

Use WiFi-Direct or SuperBeam(2.3.3+).
By the way, I'm looking for a tool to send/receive file between two android devices over internet( not on a same network) in real time(without using wifi), just as yahoo messenger does. Any standalone app(P2P) ?

Wifi Direct in Captivate

Ok I saw this option in the android system menu to turn on wifi direct, but I couldn't find anything further than that. How do I actually transfer files thorugh wifi direct??
Update:: MEthod for wifi file transfer from one phone to another.
Youu'll need ES file explorer on one phone and Swiftp on another
1. Toggle Wifi tethering on, on the device from which you will ransfer files.
2. Now connect the other device to this AP created by the tether.
3.Now on the same device(the one connected to the AP)start Esfile explorer and got to the ftp tab
4. Go to settings>scan. Es file explorer should now automatically find the other phone,
Just wanted to bump this thread....seems like no one's interested but I think wifi direct is awesome! and i know our phones are capable just that the right software is needed.

Not exactly what you want, but for transfering files by wifi i use the App SwiFTP. It's for free in the market (i can't post URL's cause i'm noob).
I hope this helps you ...
Air Droid is also amazing! It's free, and there is no windows installation required. You just run it on your phone. It gives you a web address and a password to enter on the website. Then you have access to your whole phone!

whats the best app for file share?

Hi All,
I have a wifi connection which can be connected to both pc and mobile. I need a great app for file transfer between my cell and pc without using data cable. ie using wifi. Please suggest.
Thanks,
Arun
I'm not sure about phone to pc, but for pc to phone, there's Awesome Drop. Not sure if that helps or not, sorry if it didn't.

Awesome Drop uses their servers and therefore requires a full internet connection. The OP is looking for an app like Airdroid which operates directly over your Wi-Fi and therefore needs no internet connection (plus it can do a lot more than file transfers).
If you search it for Android, maybe try Airdroid? It allows you upload or download files to/from your phone.
Thanks to it you can also write SMS using your computer and sent it from mobile

I use Kies for this purpose but i think its only for samsung phones or i get wrong ? You can try search it at google play.

samba file sharing
free n simple to use
I agree with math.NUR.
Just set up SMB/CIFS file sharing on your PC and access it via a file manager that supports it like the ES File Explorer File Manager.
I vote dropbox.

True I upload to drop box all the time then download to other devices or my laptop etc

I think you will not find anything native in Linux to do what you want as you are talking about directly manipulating the phone's SMS functions within a Linux app.
AirDroid is in a browser, but it is definitely not "all over the internet" as all the data exchange takes place locally on your own network.

[Q] Best way to transfer files between phone and computer?

The fastest way is probably physically with a microUSB connection, but I previously thought cloud storage (I use Google Drive) was the fastest way. Then I read somewhere that another option is syncing through Wifi and it is supposedly faster because it doesn't go through the internet. Is this the fastest way? If so, what is the best app with good features that lets me do this? From a brief google search, I see AirDroid as the best app so far. Thanks.

I've used SyncMe Wireless by bvaisoft to copy files to my computer, you could give that a try?
I've been using AirDroid for quite some time and it's great! If your pc is on the same network as your phone it exchanges the files through your lan and is pretty fast. I've tried CheetahSync but AirDroid has a lot more functionality - you can send messages, see through phones camera which i find useless, edit contacts and a lot more.

Only works with Samsung phones.
Obviously, the faster, better and more reliable method, is a data cable.
I use Airdroid too and I found it very useful

You can use Dropbox?
You can select all the folders/type data which you want to synchronise with the computer and which one not.
Is working perfectly & Dropbox is free!

Dropbox works pretty good, although not necessarily a 'transfer' means, moreso storage (and not much, at that.) I recommend AirDroid, I was surprised at how fully-featured it is. There is a demo on the market if you wanna give it a shot.
Happy hunting!
