Hi!
My touchscreen stopped working and I really need to get my new sms's and contact list from the the phone (TD2). Is this possible? I'm able to browse to phone while connected through usb in Vista but I don't know where the information is located and whether or not it's viewable from Windows.
Any solution to this?

Weird, the software says "can't find the phone" after searching through com-ports. Though windows finds it and I can brows it through explorer.
Anyone knows a fix for this or any other way to get this information. My phone explorer looks good though and exactly what I need but it's strange I can't get it to find my phone....
edit: As I mentioned I use USB but that's not an option in the settings next to "port".. I can only chose "COM1"
Use My Mobiler to view your PPC TD2 screen on your PC (link in my signature)
You can extract sms & contacts using PIMbackup (found free on xda or via google) or many other software backup options.
If the above fails to work you can copy the pim & cemail file from your phone device directory.

First, thanks alot for the help. Second, My mobiler needed me to confirm on touch screen on my phone which is not possible, a software like this without this would of been perfect.
PIMback doesnt seem to work with Windows 7 or I need some additional files/apps 'cause it says its not a valid win32 software..
Still, I try to get it to work, meanwhile I'd appreciate if anyone has more suggestions to share. I've been looking around but is unable to find programs that work. Pretty puzzled why this is such a hard task.....
Where is the pim and cemail files located`? I find a pim file but what is the best way to view these?
Edit: I see pimbackup is a program for windows mobile. I need a program for windows OR a program which could extract the information from pim and cemail files or any other way to get this info
....one more thing, it seems impossible to read or copy the fil "cemail".. it says the file is being used or something.. guess my hope of retrieving the sms's and so on are gone.. I was able to copy the pim.vol file though... maybe I will be able to get my numbers, but how?....
The manual files of My Mobiler launched Via PC has never asked for input via PPC screen n any installation I have done & have used it on a couple of broken screen devices for work employees.
You can load your pim file to another device or WM PC emulator to recover data, or forward to me (PM me) & I will try make recovery files you can view via PC & use to install to another device.
Jeyo Mobile Companion worked for me.
Hi all,
Loving my Optimus 3D but can't seem to work out how to rename files and folders. I know once you have taken a photo it gives you the option to Rename, but I was wondering how I could go back and rename photos and video files, and folders from before (without connecting to my computer). Anyone know?
Also can you create folders within the phone for content? And can you organize content in the Applications section, e.g. sorting Downloads in order or placing them in different categories.
Any help would be much appreciated
Cheers

To rename files and folders and create folders on your phone you'd have to have an explorer app that allows you to browse your filesystem. I'm not aware of any browser apps that don't require root (ie. Astro or Root Explorer) but then again, I've never had the need for one and always had my phones rooted.
You might wanna be carefull when renaming folders and files though.
I don't think the standard launcher allows changing the contents of the applications drawer.
Thanks for the response, appreciate it. At the risk of sounding like a total noob, what do you mean when you say having your phone rooted? I'm total new to smart phones and always just had an old simple mobile.
Also, is the Optimus 3D like the iPhone in that you need to hack it to install apps downloaded from your PC for free or can you install any apps via PC
get "estrongs file explorer". it's free and does many many many more amazing things than just letting you rename files without root requirement.

Rooting a phone basically gets you super access, kind of like having an administrator account on Windows. It comes in handy for example when you want to use custom roms, get complete file access, use screenshot tools etc.
And an Android phone is in no way an iPhone when it comes to installing apps. There's an option that when turned on allows the installation of apps you didn't get from the Market (it's in the Application section of your options menu). Presuming you only use free programs you downloaded you can just put the .apk file on your internal or external sd card and install it, either by using a file browser (such as the mentioned Estrong) to find the apk or using a separate app installer which you can download from the Market.
Awesome, thanks for the reply really appreciate it, and I actually understand it now.
So if I downloaded and installed an app or game from the internet for free, that usually had to be bought on the Android market or from Gameloft for example, could you get in trouble or banned/blocked in any way?
Sorry if this is a noob/inappropriate question
Cheers
no. google actiually lets you do what you want with your device.
Awesome, good to know. I'm really wanting the Gangstar games from gameloft but they aren't available to purchase via Gameloft yet. I can download the pirated versions and install them, but would Gameloft cause any problems when I did so or would I always have to play in airplane mode?
Most pirated software works just like the original version, just check if there's any installation instructions. The biggest disadvantage in my opinion is not being able to update pirated software through the Market.
You can use Polaris Office included in the phone as file explorer for all the naming, copying etc.. The name is a bit misleading
Nice, I didn't know that Polaris was a glorified file browser. Works great for viewing, editing and removing files and folders.
So, to the topicstarter, this is all you need to do the things you want. You can edit your filesystem and browse to your downloaded apps to install them (for example create a map called DownloadedApps, connect your phone to your pc, copy any downloaded apps to the map you created, disconnect, use Polaris to browse to the DownloadedApps map and click on any app you want to install).
If you want to rename a file or folder just long press on it and you'll be presented with all the options you need.
Yeah, I just had a play around with it, looks and works really good. Thanks for all the help folks much appreciated.
PS - If anyone could provide instructions and a link on how to install the Gangstar games (hereby showing me how to install ripped games at the same time) I would very much appreciate it. Been having no luck getting it to work
Hello Community,
is there any possibility (interop-unlocked) Omnia 7 to backup the savegames, exspecially from Xbox Live games before resetting the phone?
Thank you for answers,
Malte
Windows Phone Device Manager v1.7.0.0 can backup and restore apps and games settings and data... unfortunately with public v1.8.0.0 backup not work...
also you can copy files for every game from IsolatedStore to PC with Windows Phone Power Tools or any other tool which have access to IsolatedStore
Like dxdy said, the Windows Phone Power Tools will let you do this. I was going to post a link but it seems that I can't, so it's at wptools.codeplexDOTCOM. Use the Isolated Storage Browser to copy save data from the old phone and to the new one.
thank you for your answers...
Fortunately I am Beta Tester of Windows phone device Manager. I think i will try that method First, otherwise i will copy the savegames from isolated storage.
Malte1234511
PS: the spelling mistakes come from my German Keyboard Layout
you can't copy xboxlive games isostore, wpdm or wptools won't help you...only for sideloaded apps/games.
I installed WPDM and just had to notice, that there is a backup funkction, but it doesnt semm to work. I also noticed that I havent access to isolated storage with WPDM'S file explorer. I will no figure out the other program, hopefully it works. Anyway ist would be logically if yor're right and it isnt possible. I heard about a function that will be added to Xbox live hub from Microsoft. Maybe that will help me backup the dataa from my applications.
Thank you
With Wp Power Tools I was able
to solve my problem and copy the
savegames from the phone (but nox xbox live...),
cause as NebZoNe mentioned there is no way
to copy from the isolated storage of xbox live
games...
So, thanks anyway,
Malte1234511
Ok, after research i found out
there is a way (even Xbox Live), but I'm
not sure if I can post it here in XDA...

Just wondering if you could help me out as i have the same problem. I have sent you a PM
On a Samsung phone, you can use WP7 Root Tools to copy files from your games' IsolatedStore folders to another location (such as the IsolatedStore of the webserver app, very handy for this) from which you can get them off the phone.
I actually wrote a backup app for HTC phones, but by the time I got it working pretty well, nobody could run it anymore (needed old firmware). Sigh...

thanks for the reply but where would i find the IsolatedStore folders? The game i want to backup is Plants Vs Zombie
The phone creates an IsolatedStore folder for each app as you isntall the app. They are created in \Applications\Data\<GUID>\Data\IsolatedStore. You need to know the GUID of the app you're installing. I don't know what it is for PvZ off the top of my head, though if you download the XAP from the marketplace, open it up (it's a renamed ZIP file), and look at the WMAppManifest.xml file inside, you'll see an ID GUID. That's the one that you need to know.
winco's wAppStore shows apps GUID in a very simple way, even non free apps (E.Reid's marketplace too but need a little hack for non free apps)
Sent from my HD7 T9292 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
If someone creates XML file with most popular game names and GUIDs, I can write a simple backup/restore desktop app, helper to ISETool.exe
Suggested XML format:
Code:
<apps>
<app GUID=8eda0151-67e7-df11-a844-00237de2db9e>Birdy Bounce</app>
<app GUID=78681258-ec97-e011-986b-78e7d1fa76f8>Penguin</app>
...
and so on
...
</apps>
How do you get to transfer in the easiest way - songs from an android device to a fully unlocked Nokia Lumia 710?
also..
Where do the attachments in my hotmail get saved on my local phone storage? I have fully unlocked L710 and HTC Titan. Someone sent me a few clips attached to hotmail. I can play it from my email attachment but would like to find the folder where it is locally stored after download, and then be able to play the content from Zune. Is there any homebrew app for such file management? I have File Explorer, but don't know where these attachments can be found, then moved so that they are playable in Zune Hub.
this is a great question that I would also like to know the answer to. There has to be some way to mount the storage and manage it from a pc like you can with Android.

I did not really bother trying to find the answer. But someone who uses Android in my family tried to send me a few clips of music that I really really wanted to hear. Now ofcourse I have got it via bluetooth and that I can access. However, he sent a few more by email as my bluetooth transfer was slow. I had presumed I can find these songs in the same place. BUT nope!
However, here is my progress.
File explorer -> Applications data -> Volatile -> Email attachments -> go to each folder. Each folder represents one attachment.
So I was happy after posting this that I found where the attachments are.
However, when I copy and paste the same under my Zune contents, I cannot see it in my Zune Hub and cannot ofcourse play it from Zune hub!
Zune on the phone uses a database of media files. Merely moving your files under \My Documents\Zune\Content\* isn't going to help. The only way that I know of to add arbitrary files is to copy them to the PC, then sync them using the PC Zune software. Nobody has yet figured out how to do it more directly, although I'm sure it's possible.
Mounting the phone as USB Mass Storage is just not even vaguely likely to happen. The amount of driver writing and re-configuration that would be needed... I don't think you realize what you're asking for. There are deinitely options, though; for example, my Root Webserver app lets you browse the phone's filesystem (including uplodaing and downloading files) from your PC. You just have to use a web browser instead of a traditional file manager.

That does add some light to the scenario! Thanks!
So does that mean that even though we do have homebrew file explorers, we cannot really control our attachments i.e. sandbox issue? I have realised in last two days that our file explorer functionally isn't same as those traditional WM6.5 or Android ones. Hence theoratically speaking yes we do have file explorer but not to its full functionality..which leads me to another question. So ideally what do you use your file explorer for?
Aside from aiding my research and testing my hacks, here are a few things I use file browsers for:
Copying ebook files (.MOBI and .PRC) to the Kindle directory.
Manually editing the Marketplace configuration files (for example, some downloads are even bigger than the 200 MB that Marketplace Config will allow you to specify).
Freeing up space on the phone's storage (deleting temprorary files of my choosing, rather than simply purging the whole phone).
Backing up application data to my PC.
Turning music files into ringtones/alarms/etc.
A number of these can currently be automated using apps, and there are others that could be more useful to other people, but that's what I've found to be useful.
Content Transfer
Well I have been in same situation , I went with wifi transfer option, caz its quite secured and helpful for content transfer, like you can use smartIO App, which is good op

not yet. it'll come, but might be a while. yeah, the interop is annoying, but we'll get it eventually.
You really don't need a file explorer. Documents go to the Office hub. Photos go to the Photos hub. PDFs will go to the PDF Reader app (in the Store), and Music lives in the Music+Videos hub. If you want, you can use your free SkyDrive (skydrive.com, log in with your existing Microsoft account) to store whatever you like. You can then access that from the phone using the SkyDrive app in the Windows Phone Store.
Windows Phone does a great job of organizing your data for you. It is not like Android, and will take some getting used to. It is better than an iPhone, though, which restricts you even more, dumbing things down way too far, IMO.

Windows Phone does a great job.. but nothing will ever do a better job than a user who knows what he's doing..
I personally find it extremely frustrating that I can't download a file from my email.. and store it somewhere to attach and send it off to someone else later.
If someone sends me a zip file and I want to store it on my phone.. how does that happen?!

That is a valid point, for users that do actually know what they're doing. It would be nice if Windows Phone provided a sandboxed area to store any type of file, either downloaded via the browser or from an email. However, .zip files can be opened from an email and their contents saved to the phone (if a file type supported by either the built-in functions or an app). Those files can then be re-attached to a new email. You could also just forward the email to someone else, modifying the contents, if you want to send the entire .zip. There is an app in the Store alled Archiver that will open .rar, .gz, .tar, .7z, and .bz2 files and save them for later.

was just using the zip as a reference file.. but it could be anything..
They should really make an app that is a file explorer.
I don't have a WP phone, but I know there's NO WAY to root it or jailbreak. Root = ONLY Android. Jailbreak = ONLY Apple products.

I think they mean something similar to root or jailbreak, not exactly the same

Can I ask how to install a .xap app to HTC 8X when you have downloaded from the web page market (pc).
There is no storage card inside the mobile market as the instruction are given from microsoft.
