Hi!
My touchscreen stopped working and I really need to get my new sms's and contact list from the the phone (TD2). Is this possible? I'm able to browse to phone while connected through usb in Vista but I don't know where the information is located and whether or not it's viewable from Windows.
Any solution to this?

Weird, the software says "can't find the phone" after searching through com-ports. Though windows finds it and I can brows it through explorer.
Anyone knows a fix for this or any other way to get this information. My phone explorer looks good though and exactly what I need but it's strange I can't get it to find my phone....
edit: As I mentioned I use USB but that's not an option in the settings next to "port".. I can only chose "COM1"
Use My Mobiler to view your PPC TD2 screen on your PC (link in my signature)
You can extract sms & contacts using PIMbackup (found free on xda or via google) or many other software backup options.
If the above fails to work you can copy the pim & cemail file from your phone device directory.

First, thanks alot for the help. Second, My mobiler needed me to confirm on touch screen on my phone which is not possible, a software like this without this would of been perfect.
PIMback doesnt seem to work with Windows 7 or I need some additional files/apps 'cause it says its not a valid win32 software..
Still, I try to get it to work, meanwhile I'd appreciate if anyone has more suggestions to share. I've been looking around but is unable to find programs that work. Pretty puzzled why this is such a hard task.....
Where is the pim and cemail files located`? I find a pim file but what is the best way to view these?
Edit: I see pimbackup is a program for windows mobile. I need a program for windows OR a program which could extract the information from pim and cemail files or any other way to get this info
....one more thing, it seems impossible to read or copy the fil "cemail".. it says the file is being used or something.. guess my hope of retrieving the sms's and so on are gone.. I was able to copy the pim.vol file though... maybe I will be able to get my numbers, but how?....
The manual files of My Mobiler launched Via PC has never asked for input via PPC screen n any installation I have done & have used it on a couple of broken screen devices for work employees.
You can load your pim file to another device or WM PC emulator to recover data, or forward to me (PM me) & I will try make recovery files you can view via PC & use to install to another device.
Jeyo Mobile Companion worked for me.

Please bear with me, as this is my first windows mobile phone and I'm not all too familiar with it.
First problem is, tapping "Launch Browser" on the Internet tab does not work. After thinking about it for a while, I realized that the Opera browser was not installed on my device! Now, as far as I know, it should come already in all devices. So, I downloaded the Opera 9.5 browser off their website. How can I set it up so when I tap "Launch Browser" on the Internet tab, Opera 9.5 will automatically run? Currently tapping it still does nothing.
Second is, I've been hearing about this "Windows" folder in the HTC Touch Pro. I can't seem to locate this. When I browse for it with my computer, the name of the TP's "hard drive" is "\", and then I see the following folders:
Application Data, ConnMgr, Content, Documents and Settings, Music, My Documents, Program Files, cemail (hidden file), pim
Is this root folder the "Windows" folder?
Third thing is, in the "Programs" tab in TF3D, there's this icon there that when I press (looks like the default icon for a folder in Vista), it gives me an error. It says "The file 'wt5jetpr' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file."
There we go, that's all. Thank you, if you've read this far.
I can't help with the Opera thing but as for your Windows folder, it's a system file and hidden. You will have to unhide it in your Vista/XP operating system before you can see it using your PC>
You see, I already enabled the viewing of hidden folders. There aren't any other items other than the ones I listed.
EDIT: I tried creating a folder called "Windows" and Vista tells me I can't, because a folder of the same name already exists.
That's weird.. hidden folders are already enabled and I still can't see it.
Hiya, i'm a bit of a noob myselft with regards to wm6.1 so for the opera issue i dont think i could be much help with that same with the file that wont delete so i hope someone else will answer that, to see ur windows folder though when the phone is connected to the pc open up explorer on ur pc and click on tools/folder options then click on view and make sure either the "hide protected operating system files" box is unchecked &/or the "show hidden system files box is checked and this should let you see the windows folder.
Hope this helps.
EDIT: looks like someone already answered in the time it took me to type that, my own fault for multitasking ...

Same thing as you, when I browse to the device from Windows Explorer.
However, if I go to Tools - Folder Options - View tab and I select "Show hidden files and folders", the Windows directory is displayed.

By the name, it looks like it is JetCet Print 5.
Strange you have these errors. Do you use a custom ROM?
PS: been too slow to answer too. but at least the answers match ;-)
I'm not using a custom rom =\. The rom came with my device.
It's:
1.90.405.1.WWE
It's a HTC Touch Pro T7272
Then I advise you to do a Hard Reset. Opera and JetCet print should be there, and should not give you any certificate errors.
I advise you to read a lot these forums, gather as much info as you can, and experimenting with your device. You have a powerhouse in your hands, you know? you have unlimited possibilities. Any questions should you have must be asked.
Alright, I'll give that a try tomorrow after the day's gone so I have lots of time to figure things out.
Sorry for the double post, but I figure this message won't get read if I simply edit my last post.
Anyways, I hard resetted the device and I got Opera and that printing program working! Thanks creiz.
Just one last thing I'm trying to figure out.. is there any way I can get a custom alarm ring tone without downloading a program? (I'm trying to avoid having to do that if possible)
I have bought a htc tilt and I am wanting to dress up the today screen. I saw the retro clock and I downloaded it to my laptop, but I cannot seem to push it through to my cell phone. Any help would be appreciated, please.

if it's in a cab format than copy the cab to your device and install the cab from your device.
Send it over to your device from your commputer either throubh activesinc (when connected) or WIFI for those who have it, or Bluetooth.
Over Activesinc - Just connect device to computer (Assuming activesinc already installed and set up - if not then do so) then go to my computer, find mobile device and explore it as you would any drive. Then you can just find where you want to place the cab for installation on your device - I create a folder called install - and copy and paste it to the folder- once the cab is on your device - just tap on it to start installing it.
I have noticed that through WIFI, I can just go to view the shared folder on my desktop with my device over the network, click on the cab and it installs on the device even though the cab is not on the device but only on the desktop.
Thank you for the information. I cannot find cab. What does cab mean? This is my first all microsoft phone with vista laptop. I just don't understand the terms.
If I extract a cab file, what have I just done? Where is it at at that point? I know that eventually I want it on my phone. What is the next step toward delivery on the phone? When I check the windows mobile device center there is nothing there to import? to phone. Is there a missing step somewhere between the cabinet file extact and the windows mobile device center? I'm trying to think this through.
Don't extract it, just copy. You are "exporting" not importing.
Go here for how to install a cab
Exactly = Don't do anything with the cab except for transfer it to your device. On your desktop a cab looks like a zip file or a rar file. You might be tempted to unpack it but don't - All you will see is a bunch of stuff that doesn't make sense- Just send it to your device and then tap on it or click it to start installation. Most apps are in cab form; however, some are in exe form and must be installed to your device via your computer through activesinc. Just check the extension - it will either be .cab or .exe
I think I might have sent it to my phone, there were 6 files and when I attempted to send to my phone it said send to phone documents. Where is the phones documents at? I am looking in programs and settings on my phone and I don't see the documents. How can I know where I or if I sent it? Man, I can't believe I've worked all day on this.
stop thread please. I give up. Thank you all who really tried to help me.
Ronald Quint -Documents is in the first tier of folders - Just open file explorer and if you need to click the up soft key (bottom left of screen) then scroll until you see documents - There is also storage card documents if you search through your storage card. I created a special folder just for sending files over, and then move them around afterwards. I created a folder called "install" and send my cabs there. Then I just have to navigate (using file explorer) to the install folder and there is everything I just sent over - Music I send to my music folder however, and movies to my movies folder - to save time. It sounds like you unpacked the cab and sent the files to your device. What you can do is
1. using your computer - open the cab to see what is inside
2. using your device - use search to find each individual file which was sent to your device. (you will find them all in the same place)
then start deleting them
(you could just forget it and leave them be (it shouldn't cause any harm) and just resend the cab to your device (pay attention to where you are sending it. - use file explorer to navigate to where you sent the cab and then click it to install.. Once installed - you can delete the cab from your device.
in old good times when i had Touch HD somwhere on XDA (not in HD thereads) i found a PC software that was able to connect to PDA (probaly via activesync i guess) and read the registry.
than it was possible to export selected portions of the registry to PC in XML format. that was useful to automate resotre of certain settings like WiFi, connections and email accounts after hard reset or rom flash
now i lost the software and can not nither recall the name nor find it in the forum.
if you came accross one - please let me know where i can find it again.
many thanks!
philip
i use soft CeRegEditor
cheer!
Hi,
I had deployed an application on my phone, unfortunately my hdd crashed and all source was lost. There is hope to recover the source if I can copy the deployed app from my hd7. Any bright ideas?
- make your phone visible in Windows Explorer as Zune device;
- using TouchExplorer, copy your dll to documents/pictures (you need to experiment), then copy from Zune drive to PC;
- use Reflector to restore your source code;
Browse forums for #1-2, google for #3
Is touchxplorer safe to use? Does it change modes on the phone to get file system access?
I did rather not use apps like dfrouter...
Yes, it's safe. You can revert everything back.
great app! to my surprise I was able to find all the install dlls for my app. To recover I just renamed them to txt which made the phone think its an office doc thus enabling the email option.
no need to mess with registry settings to turn phone into usb disk.
I"m using wpdm to transfer side apps ringtone to my hd7.
Hi, I want to copy xap files I download directly on my phone but don't know where they get stored before installation.
Please can someone help me locate the folder so I can back them up?
The reason why I want to do this is because I want to create a folder on my PC and in SkyDrive with all the apps I install like I used to do with cab files for windows mobile.
I'm going to be on wp7 for w long time and apps come and go, particularly homebrew ones and having the original xap files stored would be of great use to me.
I know that some programs on the marketplace can be directly downloaded to your PC but this is not the case for all apps and also requires you to use your PC exclusively when most of us download apps via our phones.
Having them all stored on SkyDrive would also make reinstalling a easy process (WP app reinstall option never works for me) and could be done away from my PC.
Thanks in advance, Steve.

not clicked on the link yet but thanks in advance.
I did do a search both here and on the wider web but found nothing.
Steve.
Ok, I've looked at all the links and the bottom one provides me with all the info I need, shame WP has to rename the files and make life unnecessarily hard but it can still be done.
Thanks again, Steve.
