The camera is really good, you can see some samples on general thread. However, video recording is not so good, since the camera really lags with low light enviroinments. I think a custom rom will solve this problem

The best on the Xperia L Camera is the HDR mode, which comes without 3 Pictures and long processing times. :good:

I did a mini tutorial teaching the correct slowness even in environments with low lighting!
'Do what your fps will be high!
Open the camera> select video camera mode> choose scene soft snap> va Settings and choose the 176x144 resolution> then choose the resolution hd.
All done without any lag!'

Hello Guys, Im new to this forum with N number of Qns , because Im just a beginner of the smart phone users. I have got a new SE Xperia x10 and was very excited to capture the pictures using 8.1M camera.. But unfortunately the quality of the pictures that I have taken so far made me disappoint, still the HD video recording looks good. My question here is when the Video quality is good, how can the image quality be poor that we use the same camera for both the purpose. Also, is there any fix available to improve the camera quality, because i strongly believe that its not a hardware issue.

You should have put this in the Q&A section for starters.
The X10 camera quality is far from crap. First thing is turn off image stabilzer if you have it on. I find auto focus to be crap compared to infinity focus, unless your shooting a macro shot.
Use EV control!!! Its your best friend and best feature of the camera....picture quality is 10 times better.
Keep a steady hand when shooting!!!
Lower your EV control (+/-) to about -0.3 to -0.7 when shooting inside or low light and lower it to about -1 when outside on a bright sunny day. Youll be surprised how well the camera actually performs!

Its Exposure Value. And makes a massive difference in your pictures when you use it.

can i control ev values from the camera of a rom (cyanogen mod 6.1.3)? i'm driving crazy whithout having it, my pics looks like crap without controling ev values.
I can't find ev control options either but using CM6 I have very good picture quality.

EV control is only available on the stock 2.1 camera app.

I find that the picture quality I get when I use Vignette is much much better than the quality I get using the stock camera. I don't know if its the settings I'm using on the stock software but the difference is quite markable.
So try Vignette.
i m usin vignette when i wanna use flash in macros... other wise stock app with ev control and without antishake is just good...
To b honest i find XL camera to be worse than many 5 MP camera.. I don't understand why it happen.. So i m wondering is there any camera mod from any good camera phones around..?
I dont prefer playstore apps as they don't provide anything better than the stock app..

well,camera is decent.it's kinda below average when taking photos at night.the object must stand still,otherwise the photo will be blury.the rest of time,it's good.I also use camera jb+,it's a little better than stock at focus imo.I don't know if there'll be any camera ports since camera it's like a very fragile object in a phone.it can cause many erros and can easily be broken.btw,did you updated to 2.17?

Yes i did update my device to the latest version.. But still it is not that good..
When i browsed through sony Xperia z themes and apps thread i could find a Lenovo camera port for XZ.. Hope something like that wil happen for XL too..

If you're on 2.17, you can try downgrading to 1.36. Older firmware is way sharper

I am no camera freak and I didn't noticed any difference between 2.17 and 1.36.I really believe that 2.17 is better due to video not lagging in low light(even if there was a fix on 1.36,it's more comforting this way).I didn't noticed any differences between photos and I don't waste my time looking for the issues.The only things that annoys me are low light photos & video "flashing" in some specific light conditions.But I accepted it,I know I can't do **** about it and I'm waiting for devs to create other android platform based roms or Sony to update our phone and hope it will get better.
So,stop this.The camera is the way it is and some settings won't do any magic and bang,the camera will work as you wish.

Third party app like ( Lenovo , zoom fx ) have there own libs and other picture taking tools
if software of the app is not build properly then we get lags in output result. Xperia Z stock camera app gives noise in pictures because its camera app not make perfect
Lenovo super camera app is very famous now, because by using this app we get very sharp and noise free images
So by using Lenovo camera app we will finally come to know that the noise is still there or not
if noise is still there then it is the hardware camera problem
if noise is not appear then it will be the software issue.
doesn't hurt to try i suppose, gonna give this a go and see what its like in comparison.
Edit: so I keep getting an error when I try to start the app, saying camera is in use, turn off the other camera programs before using.
So I tried a task manager and killed camera but it hasn't helped, any ideas?
P.s. I think root isn't working right since I switched to superuser from vroot

I have tried taking couple of pictures but I can't really tell the difference. Some picture the stock app took it slightly better and some this app took it slightly better (I think it has to do with my hand shaking sometimes and not an app is better than the other)
Right now I am using LGCamera to take videos and it clealry is able to capture videos with 25mbit/s on 60fps without any hickup whatsoever!
Pictures look slighty better too.
So you should definitely check it out
