Hi All,
I have to go back to an older version of Android on my phone... so I'm thinking of choosing GB v/s ICS:
1) GB has an obvious advantage of GPS and if I'm not mistaken, battery
2) ICS has an aesthetic advantage, and it just 'feels' better than GB
Negative points about GB/ICS:
1) ICS ghost call problem (?) --> Cannot compromise on this anymore, and I'm not happy with using Nokia as my main phone anymore (tried for 2 weeks; I'm angry at Nokia now )
2) ICS GPS problem
3) GB Apps problem -> No Chrome, Nova, Apex etc (maybe some more)
What I need from the downgrade:
1) A supremely stable phone without random reboots
2) No ghost calls
3) Working GPS
4) Solid battery (like Stock GB offered when I first bought my phone 1.5 years ago)
5) Basically every functionality that AdAway and LBE Security Master offer right now
6) Apps like Cerberus and Avast! should work too
I know there are lots of threads weighing the pros and cons of every ROM, I'd like a crowd sourced reply as to which ROM I should choose.
Also, if possible, the steps (is it the normal ""(1) Clear cache/dalvik (2) Clear Data and flash ROM (3) Flash GApps (4) Clear cache/dalvik (5) Profit"" process?)
Any help will be very much appreciated from the bottom of my heart.
Thanks in advance! (Will 'thank' on replies too)
You are asking about Yes or NO.?
Then go to GB-> There would be no Ghost calls. No GPS problem. Battery power is great. NEOROM Would be the best. Why choose Chrome when you have Opera.?
try GB & Forget anything
OR
Just install GB using ODIN (Clean all data & caches first, Also take backup). Then just install fresh ICS ANGEEK ROM.
Choice is yours.

Which App do you recommend for back-up? I am thinking of buying Titanium Backup PRO
Does TiBu have a full Nandroid backup, or is that done by some other app?

Why you buy.? What backup you want to restore?
Applications, Messages, contacts.?
Use Superbackup application for the same or flash V4 CWM & take backup. Then you can extract the Application from out of backup zip file. But I would recommend super backup.

No, I meant only the app Cerberus. I have it and I'd like to use it after installing the new ROM too.
SMS, contacts etc are all taken care of: SMS Backup+ and Google respectively.

You can copy source of cerberus app from /data/app/ and keep backup in sdcard or you can download again from playstore. Since you have paid for that app, you can use it in any mobile in any rom.
as mentioned by vikesh, superbackup does take care of all things(apps,contacts,sms)..you dont even need SMS backup+..

Hey, since a few weeks i have the Nexus S and looking for a solution thats makes flashing roms easier. i´m coming from the Acer Liquid and allways had an ext partition and the Darktremors Script for a2sd. For the Nexus S that seems imposible because theres no SD. I love trieing new Roms, but i allways have to do a full wipe and after flashing i have to download and install all apps again.
Is there a way where i can wipe and still keep my apps? TitaniumBackup is ok for backup but restoring sucks, i still have to press ok/yes for every app, i just want that the apps are there.
What do you mean u have have to press yes OK to restore a single app? Have you used the batch restore?
Sent from my A500 using XDA Premium App
Of course ive used the batch. But when i have 24 Apps to restore, i have to press 24 times on install and on finish. Thats what i mean with yes/ok.
I just want to wipe-flash-reboot and still have my apps there. Like i had on the liquid with an ext partition.

Buy the Pro version of Titanium for pressing the button just once
Ok, the pro version can do so. But no credit card no buying in market.
I think a2sd is one of the most important function when you flash a lot of Roms. That there is no way to get it on the nexus is disappointing.
How do other do that, when there flash a lot?

Get my backup root on the market. It's free for root users and there are only a couple of clicks.
But nothing beats the Titanium backup pro version

eh not really disappointing, if your flashing different roms that need full wiping you might need to take a step back and just live with your phone

Some ROMS require you to wipe /data as well as /system. So how would i backup all my stuff so that I can simply restore all my stuff after the changes. Like lets say im running on weapon G2x right now but I want to change my ROM to PhoenixBlood, but i dont want to lose my GTA 3 saves (true story XD). Would be greatly appreciated. And pleas don't tell me just to wipe dalvik cache and /cache. Im going to be using G2X scrubber before the install. Thanks!

Titanium Backup Pro lets you backup all apps along with their data. You can also backup system data too, but you might run into problems trying to restore Weapon's system data to PB. Basically I just use the default batch backups under "Schedules"

Yes, backups work w/ the free version. But i highly recommend buying the PRO/Donate version. In the PRO version, it features 0-click batch restores, so you won't have to click "install" for every app you restore. Plus, the developer puts a ton of work into this app, and once you buy the PRO version, its yours for life, no matter how many times it updates. Just a suggestion

It works great on the free version. Also you may want to then copy your TI backup to your PC. One time I formatted one too many things including my SD card. Lost everything, which really sucks if you play games.

1) How do i restore all my apps and data after i flash a rom? (without having to download all over again?)
2) What is the difference between IMM26 and IMM76. I might flash to IMM76 but if there are no differences or improvements then I wont bother doing this
thanks
1) If you backed your apps up via Titanium Backup or Rom Toolbox, just download that app again and you should be given the option to restore your apps and data.
2) I honestly don't know off the top of my head. Might have to do a Google search on that one.
Rom Toolbox also can restore apps and their data from cwr nandroid backup. Not sure if that's a pro only feature.

all apps are located at /data/app , you can try to copy all the apks to that folder then chmod a+x *.apk . If doesn't work it no harm at least.

1. Use Titanium Backup
2. IMM26 is Android 4.0.3 and IMM76 is 4.0.4.
4.0.4 don't have the Android OS bug, and it is way smoother. + better batterylife I think..

I just read, though, that I can dirty flash v6 of the Avatar ROM. Since I'm on V3, I figured I'd give it a go.
Do I just boot into recovery and flash the ROM zip file?

Dirty flash typically works if you are upgrading between very similar firmwares with no framework changes, database changes, or other major differences. Sounds like V3 to V6 has some "major differences"

Actually, I simply hook my USB up to my Infuse, copy my zip to my external SD, reboot into recovery mode, run the appropriate wipes first, then run the zip. Voila.
What do you mean by "run my zip"? You're not referring to the zip for the ROM, right? A Tibu zip?

I use the CarbonRom mod, so I run their zips, usually updating my phone 1-2 a month from their nightlies.
I assume you've gone through the steps of rooting, getting CM recovery installed, etc. Once past all that, it's simple to load up any mod (run any zip).

Thanks for putting up with questions from a self educating non techie guy.
When you do a clean install, once you flash the ROM zip, how do go about restoring all your apps? I've tried a dozen different things but am wondering if there are any easier ways to restore my 100+ apps.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
If you move your apps to your sdcard first, you should be able to restore the data (not guaranteed). If you are doing any cloud backup, that will definitely help.
I copied my music, pictures, etc., to my external sd care (simply via USB). That took care of that. There is also Titanium Backup, but I'm not sure how well it safeguards if you're unrooted. However, it's one killer product, and there are many here who can chime in on how well it does before rooting.
However, wish I could say I did things perfectly there, but when I went from Gingerbread to Jellybean, I lost all my records on my aCar app (and had been keeping all fill-up and service records for almost a year). So I learned the hard way.

Titanium Backup. When restoring, you can restore apps, games and data. I only restore data for games, not apps. In general, don't restore system data. That can/will cause things to FC, giving a false impression there's bugs. You can also backup call and text logs to avoid losing them. I also have well over 100 apps and games myself, and it takes no more than an hour to recover from a full wipe and clean install of a update or new rom. It's because of that that I always do a clean install. Then you get the best out of your rom. A dirty flash is only good for 2 reasons. To try a new update with the expectation of restoring a nandroid backup, or if you're lazy and don't mind "bugs".
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Xparent Blue Tapatalk 2
You can also use carbon for backing up apps, even unrooted. It was made by the guy that made the original CWM, and it will let you choose where to back them up. Even has an option to backup to PC using the carbon PC app. I use both it and titanium personally, can never be too careful if you have several apps

Hi! I'm new here, but i am a bit experienced in stuff...
Anyway, when i got my Tab 2 7.0, i did flash it to Cyanogen. Now, i am on RC2
Now, i am stuck on a question: "Should i get ParanoidAndroid 3+ or stay on CyanogenMod?"
I *can't* find any clear opinions, bug list, installation instructions or kernels... ( I know what is Factory Reset, but "Wipe Everything"? )
So i ask your help, guys. ParanoidAndroid seems an A+++ rom for me, as i like costumization. No, do not ask me to get Xposed, it's already hard as it is for me.
So thanks guys!

I flashed paranoidandroid on my Tab2-p3100 but i had problem with the mic, which was not working at all.
I never flashed cyanogenmod on my tab (may be I am afraid of the term "nightly" makes it seem very unstable, you know!, though, they say they are as stable as they come).
Now there is this PAC-ROM , claims to have all-in-one features of all the roms together, i flashed it as well, it was also a good rom to test, but there were some bugs in it (you can refer to the thread), now I am using Adishakti's Dark-Fantasy-2 rom, which is a modded paranoidandroid+AOSP+ maybe caynogenmod ROM but it is really very good and stable, least of glitches i noticed elsewhere

I agree, also. I think it is funny how people go crazy over ROMs which are just other roms modified to the makers preferences. Not to say the makers do not deserve credit for their hard work, but why not take a good ROM and mod it to your own liking. Just an opinion.

Wow, so many comments on my "2cents"
Maybe my comment was perceived as "noob rant"
I had some experience with cyanogenmod in the past with some older phones (gingerbread ones) and definitely i was hooked to it then. But like I said, I was just afraid to try it on my Tab because of that dreadful suffix to it, and Luigi, your comment has really moved me
I am a member at cyanogenmod forum for last 2 years by the same name and I think on this forum too by the same name.
I actually had nothing much to post on xda previously because almost everything I wanted to know was already posted and i used this forum's knowledge to flash friends' phones mostly and had no experience of anything i used so nothing to post, but, since I now own a Galaxy tab P3100 and most of the time I am reading this section about the tab, I just wanted to share what i thought appropriate, that's all.
Thanks for pointing out that the rom I was talking about is a modded PAC-ROM, and I think what one flashes and uses is a matter of personal choice, i just shared my opinion as i think the OP asked for that.
Thanks for the comments

Somewhere in the forum a new app backup software is suggested, "helium backup"! Any experience with that?
So now we are going way off topic
Back to the topic, after using the new ROM whole night (seriously I was on a night shift!), I found out it to be lot better than someone else's modded version, I used "PimpMyRom" to my heart's content!!!!!

Yes, I used pimpmyrom to add bravia2 engine, the sound tweaks, gps mod for better GPS lock, except for the quality of video, all other things improved as expected. I could not notice difference in video quality.
Gprs was also improved, no 3g where I live.
