[Q] what's wrong with my Droid RAZR HD root - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

There is something very wrong with my Droid RAZR HD root and I'm hoping maybe someone out there can connect the dots and tell me how to fix these problems.
Problems:
1) Rocket Player is having some problems. It can't seem to find videos on my phone, both internal storage and my external SD card. But it gets weird. Rocket Player can find one video. But only one. And that video is in the same folder as 200 other videos. All are mp4s. Why does it only see that one? I have no idea. Even if I tell it to ignore .nomedia files it still only finds that one file. I can even play those 200 videos with Rocket Player via my file explorer. I reinstalled the app which fixed nothing. I then realized there was another problem with Rocket Player. All my playlists are empty which might just be from the reinstall, but the add songs to playlist button is unresponsive. And trying to add songs to a playlist from the songs list doesn't work either. The playlist stays empty. It still finds all my songs though.
2) My TubeMate app is acting weird as well. The video player that comes with it has a slightly different slider. This means that something must have changed with my phone because the app was not touched beforehand.
3) My app Anime Series is having problems too. When you click on an episode there is a popup with two options. This is normal. The first option is "custom", which displays the apps that you can use to play the episode. This list is empty even though just a few days ago it had ES Video Player, Rocket Player, Media Player, etc. The app was not modified in any was and all those apps that should be in the list are still on my phone. So why is it not working? The second option is "play" which uses Anime Series's own video player to play the episode. This comes up with an error that disappears very quickly so I can't read it or take a snapshot of it.
If you hasn't noticed all these problems have to do with videos and they all started happening around the same time.
Things I did right right before this started:
1) Moved my TWRP backups to my computer.
2) Uninstalled Circles and Google Text to Speech.
3) I downloaded a software update released OTA and after doing a temp unroot with OTA Root Keeper, I installed it. My phone restarted as usual and once fully on a popup stated that the update failed. I then did a TWRP backup and downloaded the update again. This time, the phone restarted but showed a green Droid with a polygon shape on top of it. The progress bar got to what would be about 40% percent and then the polygon was replaced with a red triangle with an exclamation mark in it, clearly stating the update failed. The phone restarted and sure enough another update failed popup popped up.
Please help me fix my phone.

I can't say what is going on with the video issue but you are failing update because you deleted system apps. The circles widget and text to speech. In order to update, you have to have all apps your phone originally came with.

Req NEW Honeycomb Music Player

A new version has been ported and released on the Evo, with cloud sync working. Would love it on my Inc. running SR3.5
Do you have a link?
hey fellas,
i don't think the app is new. a user over in the Evo section noticed that after flashing the latest CM7 build and replacing the stock Music.apk with the Honeycomb music app already floating around his sych/cloud services started to work:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=980018
Here's a link to the Honeycomb Music apk:
http://www.mediafire.com/?j73zh5ld7bpcbqn
I installed it and it worked for me and my music synced in the cloud!
wait, so its already working for our Inc's? Does it have lock screen controls? That was another thing missing from the first leaked version. Also does it improve the volume levels at all? I have to listen at full volume for some songs. Im dying for a new music player, stock one is so bland.
I am not sure about the lock screen controls but I was able to install the apk and it played all the music

Does the cloud sync work?
anyone know how to get ringtones, system sounds, (non music) to stop showing up in the music app? i would like to see only music
I wouldn't recommend this app to anyone quite yet, it has a lot of bugs I noticed after just a couple minutes:
1) No lock screen controls
2) Notification shows content://media/external/...blah blah instead of the song name
3) The pause/next feature present while browsing your library disappears once you hit next (it's possible this was intentional but I tend to believe it's always supposed to be there so you can keep skipping while browsing)
4) Pure music widget crashes when trying to launch app (may be related to #5, not sure).
5) Not sure why, but after I tapped the notification a few times, now I can't even use it. Every time I play a song, it skips to the next one and keeps skipping every second or two to the next song. A reboot did not resolve the issue. The album art displays "buffering" before it skips, so maybe it has something to do with cloud sync, which I didn't play around with, other than selecting my google account in the settings.

Pure music never worked with Gingerbread according to my experience.
One more problem/thing I overlooked: what about shuffle and repeat?
Thanx for the info Xidexl, thats all I needed to know. Guess ill stick with stock. Hopefully new SR will come with a new player.
Couldn't we just rip the final version off of the xoom then that would fix the issues we're having with bugs and I've also seen the one on the xoom and it seems to be a bit different

mediascanner issue? my music is invisible

So I installed jelly bean when it came out. (Codename Android 3.6.0 at the time of writing, but the problem persists regardless of the specific rom I'm using). I noticed that none of the music players available in the play store can find my music on my sd card. They are all in a folder named mp3, but I even tried renaming it to music - no luck. Also, the only pictures I can see in my gallery are the ones that have been made since the installation of the current rom. Does anyone have an idea how to force the mediascanner to actually scan my media? Damn, I want my media so bad

I have no idea why your music isn't being picked up. That's usually never an issue. Maybe someone else can chime in.
As for the gallery pictures not showing up. Just download Quick Pic from the Play Store. The default Android Gallery has been crying to be put of out of its misery for awhile now. It's terrible and slow. Yes, you can transfer pictures to your device and the gallery will take 5 minutes to eventually display them. Quick Pic is superior and will instantly pick up any pictures you add. No waiting involved.

Thank you for the tip, QuickPic actually solved my gallery issue, what still remains is the music list not showing up in any of the players I have tried... (Winamp, Google Play Music, Apollo, just to name a few)
check if one of the apps in use is the media scanner in a constant state of reboot.
media scanner problems often are caused by malformed jpeg file, the bug usually lies in the Exif information, you can use this tool (http://www.digitalconfidence.com/BatchPurifier.html) to remove Exif information from the file, 95% chance that everything returns to work including music and video because the media scanner is shared and if it hangs on jpeg images then can not catalog other multimedia files.
you will lose data such GPS position but the photo itself will remain intact, many have pointed at Camera360 as one of the sources of these corrupted files and I can confirm that.
I got a similar issue before and is solved by copy all media to a pc, delete the files in the phone, then move them back, see if it can help you

That's an old issue that happened to some when they updated to JB back in July. So, welcome to July.

@madd0g you had better stay off the forums, you are completely useless...
If it's not fixed completely, run a search on your sdcard for files named ".nomedia" and delete them.

Alrighty. Just make sure there are none at the root of the SDcard or in folders where you want pictures to appear. Clockworkmod ROM Manager had a bug back a lil while ago where it put some .nomedia files in wrong folders, making people unable to find their music/picture.

I already had similar question posted. Got no resolution....

Anybody have the solution? I am able to see pictures in gallery and videos on my MX player but no music?
I deleted nomedia (found one) and got rid of rom manager but still my music files don't show up with all the players. I can go directly to media/music via root explorer and play it though.
Go to your apps, find Media Storage, and then clear data & cache.
Download Rescan Media from the play store and run it. Wait for a bit (5 minutes should be good) and if you check in your music player(s) you should be able to see your music.
database or cache that the media scan builds is gone

I have done that and everything works fine. BUT! after a battery change or charge (plug in USB cable) the database or cache that the media scan builds is gone. Deleted or corrupted by something. Its back to the same state, no music, video, added ringtones or pics show until a rescan. What could be deleting it?

[Q] Music Player Woes

I've been trying to find a good music player for my GSIII for a while now and I keep running into issues. My main thing is that I want it to keep track of my metadata and Gapless Playback would be nice.
First, I was using Doubletwist with Airsync. Something would seem to go wrong every week and would require me to resync something, sometimes even my whole music library (7,000 songs.) I got tired of how long this would take and abandoned Doubletwist.
Now, I'm trying iSyncr, and have had my own issues with that. It (kind of?) shows duplicates, in the form of one less than double the songs for a particular album. (example 23 songs for a 12 song album.) It only does this for the first 15-20 artists. I tried their little media storage fix, but that doesn't work. It ends up doubling what I have in that album, and gets stuck in a "Looking for new songs..." loop and freezes. The program itself constantly shows little errors like "Device failed to update playlist." and "An operation is taking a long time." I tried to email them about these issues and never got a reply.
Did someone know of a fix for iSyncr for this or any alternatives?
I'm running CM10 Nightlies on my phone with a 64GB SD card formatted for FAT 32.
My computer is running Windows 7.

[Bug Report] MX Pro 1.7.32 crashes after playing every vid

Hi--I have used this a long time, suddenly it has become non-functional, I suspect due to the 1.7.32 update, but not sure.
--Android 4.3 (I've avoided 4.4 to retain full functionality of the SD card...)
--MX Pro 1.7.32
--Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014
--Could not follow directions for alogcat because the nature of the problem makes MX unuseable once it crashes--there is no way to hit the "settings" button in MX Player Pro at that point.
PROBLEM
So, I bring up my file list as per normal. I click on a vid. The vid does not play. In fact, there is merely a blank screen. Eventually I'm returned to the home screen of the tablet and advised that MX Player has crashed. Sometimes, I don't even get the blank screen. It just automatically disappears and returns me to the tablet's home screen. Once that happens, the program never works again (until reinstalled or data cleared) and won't even let me into the program. Clicking its icon simply brings up a blank screen, then I get "Unfortunately, MX Player Pro has stopped..."
Troubleshooting
I have tried clearing cache, data and also reinstalling. The last two DO allow me to once again bring up the File List from "folders view." It looks normal once again. However, once I try to play vids, the same, exact result occurs, i.e., nothing actually plays and the program crashes with the screen going blank.
CLUES
a) I also have this on my phone, where it continues to work fine, but on my phone, I only have a handful of FLVs. The tablet has lots of other formats, primarily mp4. On my Note 4 phone, however, I'm running 4.4 KitKat.
b) If I access the video in a roundabout fashion, by clicking on it from a File Manager, the File Manager then offers to play it with the native vid player OR Mx Player. Then, it works fine. The exact same video. Of course, then I can't access any other parts of the MX P program, and I am no longer able to use the file list Mx Player P builds.
c) I tried playing with various settings, like hardware decoder, and what not, but it did not seem to help much.
My thought is that the version supporting Lollipop has done something that Samsung does not like in conjunction with 4.3
Any thoughts welcomed. TIA

Already there is a sticky thread in which I have already explained the procedure to collect the log immediately after crash.
Install MX Log collector app
Open It immediately after the MX Player Crash
Save the logs & Upload here
Does it crashes in all decoders?
If you are using H/W+ disable it & Check again.
long press the video & select Play using | S/W decoder
Check whether it still crashes or not.

It does not matter whether or not I use HW or SW decoding.
I upgraded the tablet to KitKat. That did not matter either.
I tried to upload the log files from MX Log here. Each time (3x now!) it gave me "invalid file" and refused to accept the upload. Oh, well.

It would not let me post links even with asterisks. I took out the http in its entirety. That didn't work either. I took out the dropbox reference as well. That did not work either. Have no clue at this point.

FYI, just in case it helps, not as a "zing," BS Player works fine and normally. MX continues to work (on tablet and despite recent updates) only when a file is clicked from My Files file manager. It just won't deal with its own list of videos.

@monsieurms There was an issue on Note 10.1 2014 European ROM and it might be fixed on 1.7.34
Please try latest version also try clear app data, MX Player's internal database looks like corrupted. This issue is also fixed but once corrupted database will never be recovered.

@monsieurms Would you send log again using 1.7.34? Thanks!
Given your comment on list db corruption and the fact that some vids in small directories do work, I tried copying all the vids to a new directory. That didn't work.
I cleared data again and also downloade the arm7 Neon custom codec specified in the Decoder settings. That did not help either. (It did find and install the codec.)
With the clues you gave me, I experimented a little. In particular, I noticed that some vids in small folders (small in terms of # of videos), played fine. I thought at first, as mentioned earlier in the thread, it was a difference in format. But as we've seen, all the videos play fine if accessed from File Manager--so that's not it. With the addition of your clue on database corruption, I thought perhaps the issue was folder size. I divided the one large folder into two, 50-50. That fixed it.
I would say you have still an issue here---the program chokes with a large of vids in the database. It doesn't seem to bother other programs, including the native video player and BS, and it didn't seem to bother MXp Pro until the recent wave of updates. So, I suspect something went wrong somewhere.

[Q] PLEASE HELP! Notification sound and music library are gone!

All of a sudden my sms notification sound doesn't work anymore. I try to look into it, finding out that the file is still in the Notifications folder and evetything, only to discover that in Play Music all my music library is also gone! Simply vanished! Of course, all the files are still on the device, accessible and playable through the file explorer (even with Play Music), but in the library they're nowhere to be found. None of them. Also, when selecting a notification sound in the (default, preinstalled) messaging app, I just don't see the 3 files that I myself have put in the Notifications folder.
I've tried re-copying the files to the device and nothing happens. Play music keeps telling me to copy music on my device via USB ..
I'm running Cyanogen OS 12, all stock, but this happend in medias res, so to speak, I've been using the OS since it finally came out. I've been looking for an in-call sound recorder though the other day and tried a few (none of them working properly), tried different settings in them. Might this have been the cause of my troubles? Also, please someone help me how to sort this out, it's driving me crazy!
Edit: I have now tried to reinstall Play Music and the BS Player, in hope that maybe I will have some drivers reinstalled and everything will turn out right. Well, it didn't.
This afternoon I found out that not only my audio files, but also my pictures and videos are not recognized by any gallery-software. Not the Cyanogen Gallery, nor the Google Photos app. Nor the camera app. I can still see all the files on the device (I have tons of photos) in the File explorer, but not in the designated apps.

Workaround/Solution:
1. Delete instances of .nomedia files in the root of your sd card
2. Go to Music folder-----Create another folder in the Music Folder----Move ur songs into this folder . Now the files would appear in the multimedia player and play just fine.
3. Similarly create another folder under DCIM/Camera and move ur pics into the new folder. They will now appear in the gallery app.
======
The above is at best a workaround and I still dont know why the stock media players and gallery wouldn't recognise files in the stock directories.
I hope some senior dev or enthusiast may like to shed some light on this issue.

Thank you so much for answering! I was almost set that I'd have to re-flash the rom .. which would be rather inconvenient, as it's my exam period and I really don't have much time.
Anyway, I was thinking - Cyanogen OS 12.1 OTA is just about to be rolled out. Maybe if I wait for it to come out, it would fix my base problem? I know it's not a clean flash, but still..

Do you think it would possible to somehow "reset" the existing .nomedia files? Or if I just deleted them, would they be (properly) reset even if I don't move my media files?
Just thinking Also, would you happen to know where I should look for the .nomedia files in my root? I wouldn't want to miss any.
Hi, I am on different phone and came here for searching same problem. Well in particular your problem, as suggested above, deleting .nomedia files will do the trick.
Download es file explorer and search for ".nomedia" and delete all. Then again perform deeper search and delete them.
Sometimes clearing data of media storage also help(settings >apps>all>media storage>force stop>clear data)
What problem I am facing is, the no media files are keep coming upon restarts. Very annoying and doesn't go even after restored to earlier back up...
Anyone who knows solution for this, his help will be greatly appreciated.
