This may seem silly but Why not I want to address it since i never seen it addressed here before...... I been on xda for years I think since the 2.3 days and is amazing how much android has evolved and gotten better, beautiful, faster, than what it used to be before...... We have the most amazing DEVS you guys are super smart and creative from most of the roms I used from back in the old HTC DAYS to the galaxy 2,3,4 I seen every type of customization that I didn't even think it was possible..... But till this day we lack the full support for EMOJI, I know I'm going to hear it from most of you that they are not important or relevant etc,etc,etc...... But in my opinion alot of people still get iphones just for the simple reason of system wide emoji support and group chats....... I also know we could get apps like gosms pro or handscent etc that will support colored emoji in sms but not system wide, I also know if the phone is rooted we could have full system support for emoji in black and white...... But Cmon we have a galaxy 4, HTC ONE beautiful 1080p Displays we don't want to be looking at white n black emoji lol...... Now my question is I AM NO DEVELOPER reason why I am asking...... Why can't we have full colored emoji support ? Does android not let DEVS have suport for it ? No way around it ???? Just interested and looking for opinions.............
Btw if this is in the wrong section can a MOD MOVE IT TO THE CORRECT place............ Thanks for all the help in advanced..........

Hi,
I read this article regarding Google Hangout SMS integration and I hope (and I pray) that will let the colored smiley used in this app be used as well with Android system.
http://www.theverge.com/2013/5/16/4336910/google-sms-integration-coming-hangouts
Feel free to read and browse articles related to this upcoming revolution of smiley in Android devices.
Cheers!

Sorry to bump but I totally agree with you
Maybe we can simply change the "" to a png picture that has the emoji picture in it (this would have to be in the system font stuff)
Idk I am not a dev but this would be awesome, my sister almost got an iPhone just because of emojis but Untold here that it's not worth it and succeed with getting her a galaxy s3 ( last year )
I will take a look at this even though I don't know what I'm doing lol

We recently added an emoji screen to Magic Keyboard 2... it uses the font support for emoji rather than images.
Part of the problem is that it's hard to know whether the recipient is going to be able to read them (we get a lot of questions related to that) - I reckon once most phones/fonts support emoji you'll see them popping up on lots of devices and apps.

I need a couple beta testers for a set of widgets I'm making. I especially need someone running touchwiz. All the tester needs to do is install the app and let me know what phone they have and which widgets aren't working on their phone. PM me if interested.

can you explain more about your project? because these widgets are fixed shortcuts only with IOS icons only, which can be done by several ways already available now.
thank you

It's pretty much exactly as it seems, I know its not a super complex app or anything, I'm just beginning to develop so this kind of just like a basic project to get me started.

The #1 reason I am sticking with miui is because it has completely incorporated emoji since 1.5.13. I'm not sure if everybody knows this because I find topics all over the web. No other ROM can do this. And the best part is that you don't have to download additional apps etc to receive emoji. I can send and receive emojo to any AT&T iPhone. Its perfect! I just found it out today when one of my friends sent me an emoji by accident because she had forgotten I didn't get them. But when I did I was ecstatic! So just thought you guys should know! Running the latest MIUI.

Long ass paragraph and you didn't say what that was...does it come with egg roll and a drink??
Emoji.... hmmm. Googled it... Japanese emoticons. Cool you can receive those but I personally dislike emoticons. I really wanna try miui soon though. Excited.

Ok i am coming from an iPhone 4s, I am planning on switching to the htc one s. I have read in another thread it will work on at&ts 3g now i am wondering about emoji. As you guys know iPhone supports this does ICS support it as well will i be able to see it in instagram/twitter etc? Also i had a samsung skyrocket with a ICS rom and instagram wouldnt upload pics and crashed all the time. A lot of my firends have iPhones i just dont want to be left in the dark with emojis its almost like a secrect society lol
Instagram works fine, the vanilla ICS mms app referred to as "AOSP mms" has emojis in some versions. Not been on a Sense ROM long enough to remember if HTCs MMS app has them
You can always use handcent app, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.handcent.nextsms

got no crash since im usin instagram with trickdroid roms.
with stock rom there was a problem with the cam in landscape mode, i think.
I understand you can see them in texts but are there apps to see emoji in twitter & instagram ?
Android has an OS doesn't support emoji. There are alternatives for texting (Go SMS and Handcent) that will allow you to send and receive emoji like the iphone, but they only worn with in the texting program. You won't be able to see them on twitter or instagram.

You probably need to get the Canadian version, I'm somewhat sure that the European one only supports one of the ATT 3G bands.

Personally, I don't really pay attention to the latest and greatest version of Android when it's announced...yes, every now and then there's a major improvement or killer new feature but it doesn't matter so much what version I'm running as long as the ROM I flash does all of the cool things I want it to do.
Hi, I was a iphone user 3-4 years ago. Then I realized I want more and Android was there with all the customization. And I own a LG G2 and it has anything and everything customizable. Its a perfect phone and I had all the Nexus4, Gs4, Galaxy Note 2 this year. And i just ordered 3 Nexus 5's. But more and more I look at Nexus 5 its reminding me of Apple IOS. Google is making it too simple and boring. Good thing we have all the Dev's that can do so much. What u guy's think? Is Google making Android to look like Apple's IOS? And Apple on the other side is making IOS look like Android. Dont fight only opinions. Thanx to everyone.

I definitely disagree, and I'm not sure where you're getting "Google is making it [Android] too simple and boring." What has been removed in 4.4, or otherwise overhauled so completely that you are getting this impression?
There's only so much "difference" you can have between 2 companies who are using a desktop-environment with a grid of icons as the major way to navigate through the ecosystem.

Well, 5. And, unlike Apple, you have the choice of downloading and using a different launcher. Many different launchers allow you to define how many icons you want vertically and horizontally in the grid, and even in the dock.
I know we can do that, but im talk i ng about stock phone however google ships.

How are they similar? Please explain. Just posting a screenshot and saying they are similar doesn't do much for your argument. I can think of many reasons why they aren't. Though The page dots addition looks very iOS and the Google now to the left is similar to how iOS used to have spotlight on the left. Only spotlight was the laggiest, slowest, most useless thing ever when Google now on the left is absolutely genius.

After using the G2 LG UI or the Samsung's TW. With so much useful thing's. Like showing percentage battery, thats just a simple thing and plus too many usefull features. Like on lg changing the icon sizes . Anyway maybe the manufacturers doing lots of things better making important things available on their versions of the phones. There are so many features that its hard to write them all.

Yep. iOS7 made more leaps to looking like Android than vise-versa. Some things in ios7 are hard to distinguish from Android like the lock-screen, wallpaper, calculator app. I'm sure there are more but I don't use ios.
My guess is that in time they will mostly just look the same.
its looks nothing like IOS nothing....................

Yep it is Apple that removed all the glassy effects on icons, menus, buttons etc.. to make them more flat 'à la android'
No such thing because android is open source and you can always do much more than what ios can when it comes to customization and free market on the play store.
So no its nothing even close.
