One X sense 5 - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Why doesn't the team that's working on sense 5 porting for our phone just wait until official release in august? I feel like they're just wasting their time with all this porting when it's coming so soon

Because development.
And when the official sense 5 gets released, they can get rid of their current project and transfer all files needed for themes and tweaks to the solid base. So it will continue.
It took forever the get the 3.18 update... What makes you think ATT will release it as soon as they get it?

But most of the work being done is on getting things to work (blue tooth ). I'm for it. Just want to have the devs save their time
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app

I'm sure of they felt it was a waste of time they wouldn't be bothering. Development is never a waste of time in my eyes.

It also a major learning experience for me considering how new at deving I am. Some bugs might not be able to be fixed but others may be as simple as a few lines of code in the kernel.
Sent from my HTC One XL using Xparent Red Tapatalk 2

Because they can. Because they want to. Because as Imagio said it's a great way to learn. Because development is great no matter what the circumstances.
Honestly this is a massive waste of a thread, who are you to tell them what they can and can't do?

No need to flame him guys. I'm sure he was just curious.
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app

OP misses one of the main points of XDA: to get the latest and greatest firmware on your device, despite the fact that your carrier or manufacturer hasn't gotten around to releasing it officially yet.
Besides, August is just a rumor, not official. And Jellybean for the quad core ENDEAVORU has preceded our version (EVITA) by a few months. I wouldn't be surprised to see the same prioritization to happen again for Sense 5. And even once it comes to the EVITA, it will almost certainly be further delayed by AT&T; with work by the awesome devs here being our only saviour in that case.
Having Sense 5 at least 3 months (possibly much longer) than it being released "officially". That is the obvious reason "why".

If the above was flaming, it was a very light one, to say the least. All that was said is that this was a "waste of a thread". Which is no more inflammatory (less so, I'd say) than saying devs are "just wasting their time with all this porting".
The devs here do awesome work selflessly, with little gratitude or return. Lots of folks seem to really love the Sense 5 port. Saying its a "waste of time" is in bad taste, IMO.

Because if you build it, they will come.

I'm making this thread to first of all thank Scott for what's he's done honestly without his development I would have returned my one x and I know many of you guys would do the same.
This thread is to show Scott if he reads it how much we love his roms and what he has done for us
Please feel free to post below and show your appreciation for Scott he is a great dev

I think your a bit confused Scott is the cleanrom dev. Not aokp, and cm9.

What I ment to say I guess since it wasn't clear that I go from clean Rom to aokp or cm9 and stick with it for mabe a half a day and end up going back to clean Rom
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Just wanna say thanks a lot as well! I was originally on CleanRom 2.5 and as of last night I upgraded to 4.1 and it really made me love my One X even more. I had no complaints with 2.5 but the difference in performance between the two versions of the ROM just show the time that goes behind what he does. Very great improvement and this is a big blow to all of us to lose a great dev on XDA. However I will also be checking Scott's own website for ROM upgrades if that's where he decides to stay, which I don't blame him if he does.
Scott,
I've been using CleanRom since 1.1. I LOVE YOUR WORK!!!! I am currently on 4.1. I am skeptical to try anything different because your rom is so stable and perfect.
Thanks again for all your work. Without CleanRom I would of ditched my One X for my 4s. Currently I will never go back to Apple.
Thanks again Scott!!

Pretty sure I have root and an unlocked boot loader
Heck even the iPhone 4s has been jailbroken so that's not even a good comparison
I'm getting irritated with all these comparisons to the iPhone, if you don't like the damn phone and complain that its like the iPhone then get another phone and shut it

HTC One X: latest version 2.20 means no root.
iPhone: latest version often means no jailbreak.
Until I can root and open up this Android phone, I reserve the right to complain.

In what way, shape, or form is the One XL an iPhone 5 wannabe? You dont even make any sense and instead of complaining about no root why dont you give it a shot and see how difficult it really is.
Oh hell here we go everyone is gonna start bickering back and forth... jeeze

This belongs in off-topic, along with the other countless iPhone comparison threads. I concur with what others have said, this has nothing at all to do with the HTC One X. Threads like this are just flame wars waiting to happen, as demonstrated here. Please refrain from creating off-topic threads here.
To prevent any further bickering, I'm locking this up.

I think It's because of HTC. With all the different variant versions of one S all the different h boots. I dunno man I truly belive my next cell phone will be Samsung. I've always wanted to try it out but didn't like the phone design. The galaxy 3 and note 2 are the first Samsung phones that actually caught my eye. I guess we will see what's in the future line up. I had the HTC amaze and sensation. HTC failed the Amaze as well. Oh well.

Y'all think AT&T has plans to update straight to 4.2 instead of 4.1.1 seeing as how the hox+ update is already in progress.

doubt it. they'll probably update it to 4.1.1, and then that'll be the last update we see from them.

Would be great even if they give us 4. 1. 1
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I read this on a google news search might be BS but I'd love it. And most phones usually get at the most one or two updates small or big doesn't matter too the companies, seeing as how they would want there customers to upgrade their phones in the name of making more money.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk HD
i'm growing increasingly impatient with htc. Once you go Nexus nothing really compares after imo
I think that is the main reason why jellybean is so late. They are going to give us that one update and that's it.

Its a tough call for me. Nexus devices are supported pretty darn well. I mean, nexus s got jellybean and it can barely run it. (read run it smoothly for longer than two weeks)
But on the other hand, I tried a phone with no sense available, and I realized how much I liked sense (even though I'm only on it like half the time)
But my point is, sense is the slickest, most coherent ui overlay, and that has got to take time to do properly. Yeah, yeah, they drag their heels so we upgrade...but in all fairness, I do think they put a lot of work into it.
I think in the end I've decided that a stable version of sense is worth two of aosp. That's just my personal opinion.
After a decent aosp jellybean was released for desire z, I found myself still running gb sense 2.1. It was just a great OS that was hard to fault.
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
Yeah, they'll give us 4.2.1 with sense 5 because AT&T is the best!

Or maybe when you first turn the phone on you can have like an aroma option to run pure Google or sense
ATT is run by an arrogant ahole who only cares about the stock price(Randall Stevenson I'm calling you out). Why actually spend money on getting us JB when he can continue to line his pockets. "Eat the rich, its the only thing that they are good for"-Aerosmith
Couldn't be truer. Do nothing paper pushing thieves. He cost att billions in the failed tmo merger and got a 20+ million bonus and then they re-elected him. Ponderous to say the least. If anyone of us cost their company billions, we would be fired and probably brought up on charges.

this operating system for phones is going to be great.
I'm more curious about the firefox OS than this, honestly. Android is already a bastard child of linux, so Ubuntu isn't going to be any stretch beyond getting drivers and a dialer working.

hmm
i imagine this wont be easy and probably a bad idea for a n00b like myself but im happy to put in the time and effort to bring ubuntu to the evita if theres someone out there willing to provide general instruction. is a true port possible or will it have to be built from source?
if any devs have some ideas of where to start ill gladly take a good hard crack at it when its released this week. if not, well just have to be patient and wait for the real developers to do the job :cyclops:
Apparently you should be able to drop in an android kernel. So a port should be possible without compiling the kernel. Really lookig forward to seeing ubuntu on my phone.
