I have a rooted Samsung Galaxy S2 X from koodo and I was wondering if I can just straight up update my phone the way it is now through Samsung Kies when the JellyBean update arrives for my device in April? I have no custom roms NOR have I flashed anything on this device as far as I am concerned. The only thing I've done after rooting my phone is download root required apps on Google Play and APK files off the internet. I know for a fact that my root would disappear and I'm not concerned with that, since I don't want my phone to be rooted anymore anyways. So i figured I can hit two birds with one stone if I was able to update my phone and get rid of my root in the process. What's stopping me is that I have read that updating through kies while rooted can brick your phone. Or does that only happen if you have custom roms installed?
Don't you already have a thread about this?

Hello
I am new to Galaxy to Galaxy Tab
I want to root my GT-P3110 on 4.2.2 Samsung Stock
how do I do this

hi, you can root your tablet by installing a custom recovery (like clockwork mod) and then installing cf auto root, that way you will have your stock firmware rooted. However i strongly recommend you to install a custom rom. Stock firmware comes preloaded with a lot of useless apps that occupymemory(ram and storage). If you install a custom rom your 3110 will feel more light and there is no need to root as they come already rooted. I have installed cyanogen mod in my 3110 and im 100% satisfied. Also best guide i ve found is the official cyanogen http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_p3110
remember if you install a custom rom "Rooting the stock firmware is neither recommended nor necessary."
Thanks mate

Instead of sticking to android 4.2.2, I recommend u to install 4.3 Roms like hellfire, slimbean etc,,,they are rooted by default and comes with lots of features that doesn't come on stock ROM,,stock based 4.2.2 lags a lot,,,and gaming performance is excellent in these 4.3 based ROMs, but as suggested by @katsika you gotta have custom recovery like CWM installed

Your phone has to be rooted to install any os on it. I could be wrong but my android device required it
Well to start your phone was never rooted so its not a "re-root" or anything like that. You just need to simply root your phone & install a custom recovery. Im sure you can find those instructions googling or here on xda

Ide recommend a stock rom like cleanrom and I think there are a few on xda.
Until you get used to recovery and the other aspects of rooting. It gets a little complex when you first start down this path. Be careful and always follow all instructions.

Hi. Now, i use a stock rom. I rooted the rom and flash this bloat remover in cwm. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2566123
Also this rom its good http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507772 , but i prefer stock.

I've been running TWRP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2503063 along with SEAL ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2486388.
Noticed a considerable performance increase over other ROMs. Not having Touchwiz or any other Samsung apps is also a big bonus for me.
Just an FYI, these threads aren't allowed on xda.

The best rom is the one YOU like best. Flash and find out.
We all have different needs and tastes....its a silly question to ask others to decide what's best for you.

It is your tab so you have to do a little testing to find the one that you like the best.
IMO, S.E.A.L. with the blackhawk kernel and CWM works wonderful for me.

For some reason this device never got the attention that others did. As such all rooms are based off stock. Your best bet is to root it and install Titanium Backup. Then remove all the boatware with it.
I'm running Rocket Tab Rom on mine and have been happy with it.

I've been running Rocket Tab Lite v3.1. The lite version doesn't have the Samsung stuff. I have had a very good experience with it. I also flashed the Blackhawk kernel.

Hi,
Is there anyway to flash this rom but to stay woth the same stock Theme?
The device is gonna be used with a non-tech person.
Thanks
I see no real difference from stock. This is not like a Cyanogenmod build, it still has the look of Touch wiz. Mainly it just has the Samsung apps removed. I have noticed a great improvement in both performance and battery life with the Rocket Tab ROM.

My advice is until there's more options.....root, get titanium backup and freeze a crapload of bloat...especially all the Samsung stuff, greenify and battery and smoothness are as good as it gets I think.

Hi,

I tried the Rocket Tab guide and I flashed the PhilZ Touch recovery from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2468441
Which had a link to this page (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2653391 )
I flashed this recovery:
philz_touch_6.19.3-lt02wifi.zip
Then I tried to flash the Rocket ROM and I got an error and now the device stucked on Samsung logo.
Attached a photo shows the error.
Please help. Thanks

Rooting is not mandatory. But most important [since you are in official rom] is to install custom recovery first to be able to flash custom roms that are rooted.
I tried all the Room and finally return back to stock. ..but root leave. ..the device it's too much faster stock.
