[Q] Need help 7.0 Plus Firmware Upgrade Issue - Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus

I was trying to manually update the firmware to JellyBean 4.1.2 via Odin3 v3.07, and it got stuck at modem.bin. Not thinking, I pulled the cord, and after screwing up the order of operations ( plugging in and pulling out )now I have "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." The problem with that approach is that Kies isn't recognizing my tablet, and when I try to go back to Odin to fix the issue, putting in the firmware file into the PDA section automatically freezes the program. Is there a way to clear that from happening, so that I might have a shot to fix this whole deal?
On a side note, it doesn't help that my computer is a piece of trash.
UPDATE: Turns out the Odin didn't freeze, it was just REALLY slow to respond, but my battery died before I could try to reverse everything. However, when I felt I had charged the tablet enough, my computer wouldn't allow my USB cable to work. It would make a sound when I disconnected it, but it also made roughly the same sound when I plugged it in. Is all hope lost, or does my outright refusal to give up hold water?
UPDATE #2: Fixed everything.

unrecoverable soft brick even with USB JIG

so yeah i got my first replacement after the first time this happened... i tried flashing krylon360's rom with odin but got a fail at factory.rfs. keep in mind i am in no way shape or form a noob with odin, i have brought many of my buddies' devices back to life, but for some reason even though i use a USB jig ( which works in my captivate and personally tested and working on the SGS4g before the unrecoverable soft brick) any help please i dont want to have to send it back to t-mobile again... they already charge 10bucks just for shipping.

Hmm I'd say if the USB jig didn't work, you're not soft bricked. That's a hard brick.
What kind of USB jig are you using?
Was it a ROM or a kernel you flashed? which one, version etc.?
Jig - verified WORKING before the flash attempt
tried to flash [ROM-ODIN]T959VUVKB5 Stock + Root By: krylon360
new sgs4g
new USB cable
opened Odin first, set file
plugged in phone got a good port connection

donation rewards for anybody that can help! lol this is depressing, my old captivate isnt this sensitive and has been through hell and back, but this SGS4g.... im dissappointed in.
Uninstall all the drivers for the phone make sure you have the right ones also, and try plugging it into a usb 2.0 slot then run it again, this seemed to work for me. I ran into the same issue I plugged in my jig but it gave me a black screen, but odin recognized it and I flashedthe kd1 update and it was fixed. Hope this helps

If the computer is not recognizing the phone being plugged in, how is ODIN going to be able to process? I don't know if mine SGS4G is irrepairable but when I plug it in to the computer, it will not even show up on device manager. The drivers have been installed in the past and I have used ODIN before.
When I try using ODIN now it won't work since it won't recognize the phone.
I have used JIG and simply will not buzz. It's pretty much as dead as if the phone is not even on.
Any help guys??

If its currently in the state which I'm assuming..
-won't turn on, no sign of life period...
-plugging it in the wall charger won't even show the green battery status...
-won't get recognized when plugged into pc (or odin)...
-all combinations of buttons and battery pulling+usb cable plugging does nothing...
Yea I think its safe to say it went to a land far far away just like my friend's phone and only Samsung can revive it now.. Because I remember reading all the stories how everyone brought theres back to life so easily with the button combos or the jig usage, but those phones all at least showed a sign of life with that cable screen. But if its pitch black like I'm assuming then...
Same here. The jig didn't seem to work - I still got the cell + comp but odin worked anyway and reflashed stock. It's probably better to run Odin off a desktop if you have one.
That screen scared the holy hell out of me a couple of days ago. I ended up having to re-install the samsung drivers for windows 7 and then odin picked the phone right up. The reason I *knew* the phone was recoverable from that screen was simple, though:
I read the screen. It wouldn't be telling you to try something in Kies if you couldn't do anything at that screen. So, I just kept ****ing around trying different things until it worked.
*I* have personally noticed that that screen tends to come up when you accidentally or inadvertently select "Re-Partition" on a rom/image that's not setup for it, or if for any reason your phone gets disconnected or powered off during the flashing process.

I second this. I have been running into this screen while trying to install root from the 2.3.4 leak. I have had black screen, fuzzy screen, random pixel screen. In most cases I have been able recognize the phone using odin. A few of the key steps that I have used to get the phone recognizable in odin are:
1. If the computer says "usb not recognized" when initially plugging in the phone, uplug it and plug it back in. Most of the time when I do this the phone is recognized as samsung device.
1b: If odin now recognizes the phone after running through step 1 I will try to flash the files again. it will usually fail after trying to load the flash files on the first try. I have to mess around with this process a few times and I can usually get a successful flash.
2. I had an case when having to deal with this problem yesterday. I was running through steps 1,1b and not having success. Odin was hanging, (I forget which step). I let it sit for about 10 minutes and was still hanging. I unplugged the phone with odin still hanging pulled battery, powered on, plugged back in. Odin, which was still open and still trying to connect, continued its already started process after plugging it back in!!! This was an accident to still have the odin running and trying to connect, but after reconnecting the phone it successfully flashed!

These kind of observations are especially helpful! I can concur that I get the same <phone..!..pc> error, when odin tries to flash and gets a write fail, however, I do not have the "re-partition" option set. I then have to run through my previously mentioned steps to try to get a successful flash.
My question is what can i do to keep odin from failing to write when flashing?? I have only been using PDA packages, with the exception of using discrete packages (pit, csc, phone, pda) when loading the 2.3.4 rom leak.
It seems like the flashing write error in odin in causing the <phone..!..pc> error quite often with different flash processes. Does anyone have a solution to what might be causing this write error and what can be done to prevent this whole cycle? If so I sticky or new thread might be useful for other users. It has caused to have to warranty my first phone, urrrg!
Scariest feeling ever........ Not seeing your phone come up on Odin.

I had the same issue yesterday, when I tried to flash KD1 vanilla (stock) ROM
using ODIN, it failed the first 4 seconds, it boots into fuzzy looking screen and
that's it, every time I tried to boot it the fuzzy screen fades away to pitch black.
there is 2 possibilities that messed up the whole thing for me:
1) Bad ROM.. (i.e, can't be used with ODIN) although some members said it works
but don't know if there anything special to do before hand, if I want to downgrade.
2) Samsung Kies' fault, I installed just right before I used ODIN, and told me my
device is not registered.. hmm.
It could be both cases, but I suspect Kies the culprit, I had to uninstall it, and
uninstall the drivers came with it, installed the drivers found here in these forums,
and Odin recognized a COM port, although black screen on the phone, flashed
to KH1 and I am back to business. phew..
GB is awesome, but I can't stand the weak WIFI issue even with the latest KH1
I have to stand 3 feet away from my router to get a solid signal, with froyo
vanilla rom, I was able to connect like 50 feet away. but that's another problem
not for this thread.
Heh funny thing I read today in some thread, there is a conflict between Kies and
Odin after the incident happened. my fault for not reading a lot, jumping the gun
almost cost me the phone :/

Did I completely mess up my Captivate?

So I been trying to fix my friends Captivate for a few days now.
I posted a video a few days ago. I did get it into download mode with my jig. However everything froze while I used the 1 click captivate heimdall to flash my phone. (It did flash but some things did not work)
Anyhow now My phone has "Phone - ! - PC"
No download mode, the jig sends it back to this screen too. I tried so many button combinations. I really don't want to send my phone in to some website. I was so freakin close...
Please help
My Evo 3D is laughing at me and the captivate.
I pull out my battery and let it discharge for about 15 secs and hold volume buttons then connect USB cable and finally insert battery while still holding volume buttons of course, it'll get you into download mode. Never failed me. I've had my phone not even turn on the screen, it stays dark during a screwed up flash with odin. I then flash UCKI2 with bootloaders and then flash to gingerbread ROM I like. If you plan on installing custom ROMs your phone will semi-brick numerous times. If its showing a phone, exclamation mark and computer with a message saying firmware flashing failed. That is perfect! Just make sure you have Samsung USB drivers and simply flash using odin, it'll show COM and a number like 5 (COM5) then just flash. I'd advise you to remove any external SD card and restart before using odin it acts up. Hope this helps

The "Phone - ! - PC" will be your download mode screen. Just download from there.
However, if a flash goes foul somehow, you may be left with the infamous "phone--/!\--PC" screen.
If you see this, don't panic. Although it's not technically the download mode screen, many users (including myself) have been able to successfully flash from that screen. Give it a try.

100% - I had similar experience with my first flash but after a few goes at it and 3 or 4 "soft-bricks" all has been great!
Well when I plug it in Windows 7 doesn't even detect it anymore. But the phone will go back to that screen when the USB is connected.

Any chance you have another pc to try it with? Or possibly another cable?
Going to try one click on ubuntu...
Ive had issues in the past before with certain USB ports on my PC not reading the phone.
Try plunging in your phone to a different USB port and it can make a world of difference with the driver issue (even if you have to plug it in the back of your PC).

Are you running x64? If so are you running the 64 bit drivers?
I also had the same issue a couple of times, which is technically called a "soft brick" . You could resolve this issue using ODIN flasher and reverting back to stock. Now coming to USB problem in windows, this is a known issue with windows (especially Vista and Win7) and samsung!! The remedy which I found is as follows :-
1.Disconnect the phone from USB
2.Remove samsung USB driver software from your windows PC.
3.Reboot and then navigate to C:\Program Files\ (assuming that C:\ is your windows OS partition)
Delete "samsung" folder.
4.Download latest samsung USB Drivers for captivate and install.
5.Reboot the phone.
6.Open ODIN and connect your Phone to PC.
It should detect the COM Port by now. Try this and get back

No download mode, no recovery, detected by odin, not kies

Hi,
I rooted my brandnew GT-P3110 with cf, flashed pacman and cwm recovery. I do not blame anybody alse for my issues but myself. I guess I messed up the restoring of NON-system-apps:
After a day of troublefree use the tablet randomly rebooted and came back with the message "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.". No booting into recovery possible, no booting into download mode, no regular boot. Just the same message over and over again. Battery is unremovable.
I installed Kies, updated it, it downloaded drivers but under "emergency recovery" my tablet didn't appear. I then followed the "Firmware Upgrade and Initialization" procedure wich downloaded the necessary files but aborted with a korean text shown in the attachment after replugging the tablet. I tried this with 2 different USB-cables on several USB-ports. Kies btw asked me to remove the battery (not possible) after entering device number and serial-number. I turned off by pressing the off button instead and it turned on again.
I uninstalled Kies, rebooted, installed the samsung drivers manually, rebooted. I installed odin 1.85 (and later 1.3) and downloaded my contry's stock firmware (and later a newer version of the same firmware and another country's stock) from sammobile. I tried to flash them first without "repartition" ticked, later with it ticked but without a pit file (i can't find it!). I got four different errors, two are attached, the third was somethign like "cant write (line 1876)" and "cant write (line 1440)".I tried three stock firmwares with two version of odin with two USB cords on everal ports on ONE computer. I remove the tablet every time, exited odin every time, run it as admin, disabled firewall, xp-antispy and antivirus. I'm on Windows 7.
Besides a million other threads I found this one, but I wasn't able to solve my issue with it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652398
For 48 hours i tried to solve this problem by myself. Now I hope to find out if there's a point in continuing or if I can give up and throw away the piece of samsung.
Cheers,

I am having the same problem with a P5113. Started with stuck at the Samsung logo. Then I tried a flash from Odin that didn't work. That led to the "Firmware error" screen telling me to use Keis. Keis fails to find the tablet. Odin still sees it but doesn't get a good write.
Now all I get is the battery icon when plugged in but that's it.
Things I have tried:
1) Two versions of Odin
2) Different USB ports
3) Different PC
I also let the device sit over the weekend to completely discharge. Still nothing.
Did you (or anyone else) resolve this issue?

Dude had the same issue on my galaxy S2 and resolved it. I downloaded the

The stock ROM from sammobile. (http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/2/)
The JB Bootloader
The stock JB kernel.
Opened odin v1.85.
Then i used the vol down+home+lock keys together to try to open the download mode ( but ended up in the "Firmware error " page) and connected phone to the pc. It shows "Added!" in the message box.
Repartition with the .pit and it will reboot.
Disconnect
Get into download mode and install the bootloader and it should reboot when done. Disconnect.
Get into download mode and connect
Installed the kernel through odin and reboot
Download mode again and install the ROM through odin.
If the phone gets stuck in boot loop (samsung logo over and over),
get into recovery mode ( for s2, vol up+home+lock, it needs to be pressed intermittently)
Then do a full format along with wipe cache.
And then the phone finally booted completely. . Good Luck.
Note: I'm not sure to boot into recovery and download are the same key combos as it was for the i9100g.

Thanks. Well, I understand the theory. I have had trouble finding a PIT file that I am sure is for my device. I did save a PIT file but I think it is corrupt because using it requires me to let the battery die afterwards to get back to download mode. Same for the bootloader. I have a few things I've tried, but not sure I have one that is exactly for the GT-P5113 (in fact, I never did find a JB for the 5113 just the 5110 and it never would load).
Well no amount of coaxing has put life back into the tab
I may try again out of curiosity, but rather than invest more time I went out and bought a 32G Nexus 7 (2013 version). I would still like to get the Galaxy Tab alive again -- it has corrupted the flash twice before and each time I was able to bring it back to life. Not sure if this is an actual hardware failure or if it is just beyond partitioning.
I have a feeling if I had the right PIT and the right bootloader I could get back in business.
I can do each thing you mentioned, but my device is not getting detected by my PC. When I insert USB it says USB not recognized and it is not detected by Odin, adb and anything else. I am stuck on Boot Logo for my P3100 and when I go into recovery, it says USB not recognized. Fully messed up. Can you help me out here.

No. I finally sent it to one of these ebay guys who will JTAG it since I was too lazy to wire up one of my JTAG probes. They worked on it and said it was simply dead and the only alternative would be to replace the flash chips.
Bought a Nexus 7.

[Bricked/DEAD] I challenge you to revive it! EARN 50 EURO!!

Dear XDA users,
I got a P5110 from my grand parents. Its barely used and looks like new. It dead, dead, dead, dead, dead. At first i would only charge up.
I tried to revive it with odin, but now it says Firmware has encounterd an issue).
What it does now:
It take 5 Minutes until it connects to the computer, and show "Firmware upgrade has ..." and windows makes the USB disconnected noise, and USB error noise.
It has no recovery, I tried many things but it only shows the Firmware upgrade issue, so im trying to install a custom recovery trough odin.
Trying to put Philz on it, but when Odin has finished and reset the tablet, its dead again , and nothing happend.
Wont turn on by the power button, only after 5min connected to a PC.
I have the feeling the internal storage has crashed and broke.
I OFFER 50EURO to the Person that can revive this!
Good luck.
Just a wild idea. I have a 5113 (virtually identical to yours) that my daughter stopped using about 4 months ago. When there was a screen time out, the Tab would turn off. I did a factory reset and it solved the problem. When I loaded rootbuster, the problem returned and I did a factory reset, and it again solved the problem.
Would add that it is very confusing in that there is a USB driver connection to the Tab's download mode (development driver), and a simple USB connection to the computer that allows you to copy files. If factory reset doesn't work, you should go back to the development driver and see if you can use ODIN. Here is link for development/download mode driver. http://developer.samsung.com/technical-doc/view.do?v=T000000117

Good luck.

What version of windows are you using? I remember having the same problem when I tried using ODIN on Windows 8.1 as that does some weird things with drivers.
Make sure to not install KIES - uninstall if installed.
"Firmware has encounterd an issue" - Odin works on that screen
In Odin uncheck auto-reboot.
Flash latest TWRP.
Wait 2 min, now unplug the tab from PC.
Press the key combo to boot into recovery directly.
Where are you from?

Need help with my samsung galaxy tab 3 lite!!!

So one day I decided to flash custom ROM onto my Samsung galaxy Tab 3 Lite (SM-T110) and I used Odin and was new to the whole Rom flashing thing, and so It messed up during flashing and I was stupid and unplugged my tablet and now it is stuck in the download mode saying "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue, please use KIES and try again" something along those lines, and I tried looking it up and tried to fix it, like holding down power button and hard rebooting, didn't work, which now, every time I plug it into my pc to try a flash factory ROM and it keeps turning on and off on the error screen. So can someone help? I cant take it apart because I am using a screwdriver and it is damaging it, to try and take out battery and put it back in, and I'm not buying one of those plastic tools, I want to but, its just for another reason why I can't, So can anyone help? Thanks!

So I downloaded it and it was in .tar format. do I need to convert it? because in ap it doenst show up, it shows file formats and .tar is not one of them.
EDIT: never mind used WinZip, and added it, but like I said, every time I plug my tablet into my pc, it turns on, shows the download mode error screen and turn off, then turns right back on, with same screen, and so on and so on. so I really cant do anything till that is fixed...any suggestions? Ok just fixed the turning on and off thing, I had best idea, hold power button and plug in cord, then let go of power button and it should stay on now
EDIT: just plugged into my pc and its doing it again, it worked with charging cable, but I guess since I unplugged it, it stopped working, ill see when I get home from school and try again
Also turns out the screen only flashes on and off, when it is connected to my pc, when it is to the wall, its fine, so I need to figure that out
Ok it works with my tablet plugged into the "charging only" port basicly, but it does both charge and can send data. But every time I try to flash i on Odin, It always fails, so idk what to do

1-enable USB debuging
2-what is the error?
I cant enable it. Still in download mode error screen, and I try to flash it using Odin and it doesn't say pass it says failed, but I'll try to reinstall Odin and maybe download a fresh copy of the stock ROM

ok I fixed it, using this link https://www.full-repair-firmware.com/2017/11/full-firmware-t110.html
ok good
But it made it a different language upon setup but I can change to English, but it installs like 4 applications every time I reset it and boot it up, I can uninstall them, but its annoying, and the app called calendar or is supposed to be, is called s planer, I don't like it so I'm trying to find a stock ROM for it so it is back to normal.
