Hey, so i have a question for all of you veterans on here. Im mildly experimental, so i just do the basic flash a rom here and there deal. However, im running hyperdrive rls14 with stock kernel on my Verizon s3. Since it gives me options to have beats audio, aosp email and clocks as well as other great features like the touchwiz motion controls, I've been running it for a few months now.But ive realized its heavy on my battery life, and my phone has been getting hot more often than before. I felt like that partially due to the amount of ram it takes up. So does anyone have any good suggestions as to what i run? Because ive heard things such as pure stock is boring and want to make a good decision.
You can still run this, but I suggest you try the things that you want installed, and those that you think you can live without remove them. I think that will make a huge difference.

Also = AOSP, right? Well there's Halo, nightlies, "less" lag, faster updates (currently at Jb 4.2.2, TW is at 4.1.2), no TW bloat, (customizable) soft keys, and a host of other things. It's not what AOSP has that TW doesn't, sometimes it's what AOSP does not have which is why folks choose to avoid TW.

Because more stuff works.
Not a dig on the ICS and JB devs, just IMO seems with a GB kernel there's little reason to on a dd'er. When/if Aries gets going, that's a reason to try it.

Working Wifi calling. That's about the only real reason that doesn't boil down to bad data/app choices. But it is compelling.

Alright. Point taken tho i don't agree on battery life it seems quite acceptable to me. Boils down to what works for you. I have never had much use for WiFi calling tho.

I stick with gb due to the layout.
I prefer the bml over mtd for the touchwiz features....I like going to contacts and sliding to text/call,and so on.
I don't mind waiting patiently for this.
Although it may never happen due to what seems to be most people here don't care much for bml and what it offers...which is all good by me....i do flash everything that comes out and give it a great amount of trial before i end up going back to the gb bml.

Replace the G with J in GB.
LOL
I use FBs VB still. Of course, I like ICS and JB, but GB this ROM is just perfect for what I want. With ICS/JB I have battery issues and also weak wifi signal. So GB feels right. Anyway, there has been a lot of progress and I know it will continue.
The facts
on GB almost everything works perfectly from the box (only some launchers require ver 4 and above, including Apex, my favorite).
Obviously memory management is better on ICS and JB, but most novice users won't feel the difference.
Regarding the UI experience, I think it is much better on ICS and JB, but apps like this - ICS/JB task manager, ICS system style (and maybe a systemUI) can make the difference minimal.
I prefer the UI in ics than gb. It is much faster and more intuitive.

Hey guys,
Just letting you know I have leaked 4.1.2 for our devices over in my thread. Link Here
Enjoy. :good:
EDIT: Just a small note, this does not yet include the Premium Pack (multi-window, etc...) this is just Verizon's first test build of 4.1.2. Mostly bug fixes and minor features.
hmm..any nice updates on 4.1.2 over 4.1.1?
Yes the 4.2 gapps and should have multi window stock.
Any difference in the radio?

Yeah, it seems like people are really hyped about 4.1.2. It's basically any custom TW ROM already released, since the 4.1.1 ROMs have 4.1.2 features in them. Now, if it were 4.2, that'd be something to get hyped about!

Nah they're correct to be excited. Samsung explicitly stated their new "premium suite" update with Note 2 features (like multi-window) would become available in 4.1.2. However it seems none of these features are available in the current leak. Perhaps the next one!

Its only been a day BUT I have noticed a huge difference in performance since running it. I havent added anything to the Rom that I havent ran before. I used to have a delay on my menu button when using Apex as my default, its gone, the version of Apex is the same. My camera loads much faster than it used to, I would have a 2-3 second black screen delay when starting the cam. Now its almost instant every time. I have a lot more free Ram than old stock version, I debloated the heck out this Rom and am steady between 480-600mb used with over 1gb free! My last Rom ran between 700mb-1gb used. The Group play app works well actually and its really easy to use. Quad scores are up. Battery seems better, im on 18hrs with 1hr 45min screen on, 59% left.
Again, these are my findings after 24+ hrs, yours will vary. I run LK.
anyone know how many leaks we got before blk3 hit?

if you want stock touchwiz newest with MODs..
if you want a 4.1.1/4.1.2 AOSP ROM, I personally suggest ParanoidAndroid 2.5.6
and if you want AOSP 4.2 I'd would sugggest BAMF Paradigmn, but that isn't public yet, so my next is Carbon ROM is nice, Slim is great, and Eclipse is awesome if you want a nice dark theme and a great ROM..
I personally use stock kernel on touchwiz, and whatever comes in the ROMs for AOSP.

I honestly think this is your best bet. Though the AOSP roms are snappy and simple, there are still way too many bugs. I'm on CleanRom as well and it's very smooth with virtually no bugs. You can even theme your phone to resemble AOSP while still having the luxury of using all the addons touchwiz has to offer.

As I said above this ROM also has virtually no bugs and is very nicely put together. If you do in fact go with clean however, don't put a launcher on it because it ruins the purpose of a custom rom.

I don't normally use a pattern lock, but I just set one up and it seemed to work fine for me. I am using a CM10.1 unofficial that I've repo-sync'd and built myself this morning. I added a few cherry-picks, but they shouldn't have directly affected that.

The biggest bug I have is https://code.google.com/p/android/i...c=ID Type Status Owner Summary Stars&id=39633 . It was somewhat fixed in 4.2.2, but not completely. There are several other issues introduced in 4.2. There are lots of people that believe that nothing since 4.1.2 has been better than that version. Each Android since then has had bugs that ruin the experience and should have been caught by the beta testing team.

You're talking strictly TW right? Because the only issues with 4.2 AOSP are the signal and bluetooth, which I believe was fixed with 4.2.2. The signal has been worked on and is actually pretty decent depending on which ROM you flash. What other "experience ruining" bugs have you dealt with?
