[APP][2.2+] TDM - Torrent & Download Manager for Android - Android Apps and Games

Hi,
I would like to submit my new application "Download Manager for Android". With this app you can speed up your internet downloads as much as 500% (depends on the server and your connection). Also this applications allows to download torrents.
Another useful feature is that you won't lose any downloaded data in case of connection lose or download error. You can always resume you download from the point it failed thus saving data and money on your 3G/4G link (this is especially usful when the signal is unstable).

Looks nice. I will take a try. I'm curious how do you do this "With this app you can speed up your downloads as much as 500%"? It's incredible. :good:

The speed boost is achieved by splitting the file into multiple pieces and downloading them all at once. Such an approach provides an overall speed boost for almost any download, however the best boost is achieved for servers that have an download speed limit per connection (those types of server aren't that uncommon - most big server have some sort of limit especially for non premium accounts).
For example if the server has a limit of 500Kb per connection and you use one connection for the download (like a normal browser does), then you only get 500Kb of max speed. However if you split the file into 10 pieces and use 10 connection, then you download speed is 500Kb * 10. Ofcourse if your internet speed is less then 500Kb then you won't see any boost.
Also I think that even if you don't achieve a boost for a certain file or server, then is still worth using this application as with this app you will never lose your downloaded data. If you battery dies in the middle of the download, then you can always plug in the charger press the download resume button and continue without loosing any downloaded data. Even a couple of hours later you can still resume your downloads (hell maybe even weeks if the downloads file doesn't change or gets removed from the server).

Very nice. I can download music from my favorite site 2x faster now

my net speed is 128kbps so no 5x for me.. bt i must say its a decent downloader good work

Yes, unforchantly you need 1Mbps or more to see any speed benefites Anyway you can still enjoy the abitlity to resume failed downloades from the point they failed (without losing any downloaded data). So you don't have to worry about battery deaths or Internet signal loses.

OK, I'll prepare a couple of flat icons a run a banner test with them against the current icon. The winner will stay

Thanks for this app. Your detailed description of how the app can speed up download makes it very tempting for me to try it. So if I download from a server which has no limits will I still notice a speed boost? I'm using 10mbps BTW.

It's a hard question. Every download I've tried using my app was faster then using an web browser. However I can't say if those servers had limits or not, and also I didn't setup my server to do the test. Currently I can give you an theoretical anwser (which is only backed up by the fact that the downloads I've done were a lot faster). Consider the 2 examples:
Example 1 - the server has 100Mb of connection and at the moment 200 user that're downloading something. The server if fair and divides the connection equally, so every user gets 0.5Mb of connection (100 : 200 = 0.5). If you're using a single connection to download you file, then you have 0.5Mb. However lets say you now use 12 connection for your download. Since the extra 11 connection were made, then the server has now 211 connections. 100Mb divided for 211 gives 0.474Mb per connection, but since you use 12 connection then you have 12 * 0.474Mb, which gives the total of 5.68Mb.
Example 2 - same server, but only 10 connections. Every connection gets 10Mb of speed. You start to use 12 connections per download, so the server now has 21 connections which gives 4.76Mb per connection. 12 * 4.76Mb gives 57Mb, but your home connection limit is only 10Mb. So in this case you're still stuck with 10Mb (doesn't matter is you use 1 connection or 12).

Bittorrent mirror for android related files

I set up a page for android related files on my server. I am currently mirroring all the JF 1.41 images and build environments, and the Debian installer. I am using bit torrent so I don't go over my quota on my server, and since it is a great way to distribute large files.
I put this up since a lot of people were complaining about RapidShare and MegaUpload, which is the only place (that I am aware of) to get the debian installer and some of the theme files people are posting.
I will try to get most of the themes that I see in this forum up there later this week. Its also very basic right now, i'll add a way to add and remove files yourself later. For now you have to email me using the online form.
Here's the page: http://hexial.net/android/torrents/
Give me some feedback... Would you all use this?
yes, if its fast and virus/malware free.
now we need a torrent client for android..downloading updates on the go..rename it and install...life couldnt be easier!
thanks man!

Yup! My goal is to make this a faster alternative than MegaUpload or similar sites. I have 4 or 5 seeds for each file, and 2 of those connections are 20mbit upload speed :-D
And of course I am going to try and keep all the files virus/malware free. I double checked that all the md5 sums matched the originals posted by JesusFreke, so they are all virus free on my end.

Actually, at first I really liked the idea of OTA updates via bittorrent... then I thought, hmm people are going to apply the update, restart the phone, and then we are going to have tons of seeds out there seeding over GPRS? Nah, I think ill pass =P
(It probably wouldn't be all that bad with 3G, but out here I get GPRS... data speeds are unbearable)
I wouldnt seed from my phone but it would be kinda cool to dl stuff to my fone like vids that are already in the correct format, or music. As far as speed goes, Edge seems pretty quick, i dont have much access to the 3g network, but Edge is better than GPRS, at least for me.
Forget flash we need utorrent for android.

No warez I will make sure of that. Only material already available via conventional methods in this forum only faster.
I think this is a great idea. I can't seem to get your tracker to load here at work. Perhaps you could limit new torrent uploads to approved rom devs upon request to help curb the chances of warez related issues.

Try re downloading the torrent file. I made some changes.
I'm in the military and on a government computer, there is a very restrictive firewall in place. I can't even get your tracker site to load. No worries though.
I already have all the cdma items and ROMs on my http server linked to in this forum. I already have over 6 GB transfered. You up for a little competition?
Just a heads up, cant get either torrent file to download. And I am sure my utorrent is fine, got at least 200 things seeding right now...

I got it, messed around with it at work (sitting outside) and it looked amazing. Then went to use it at the end of the day on my drive home (just to test it out) and it never successfully routed me by the time I got home so I've yet to have a "real world experience" with it, but I assume the servers were just getting hammered or something (connects to server to route, re-route, etc).
Gonna keep messing with it tho because it seems pretty impressive for a beta.
Edit: and before people ask, I don't think sharing the apk is a good idea. It definitely does an online authentication check every time you run it.

hahah.
Well all of a sudden during the authentication step mine is telling me there is an update available and says update or no thanks. If i click update it takes me to the market with a search for the publisher which doesn't return wikitude drive (nor is it available anymore if i search for it) and if i click don't update, it says auth failed and doesn't let me do anything.
Maybe a glitch? Maybe they revoked the beta?
Edit: Just found this on their website.

I don't think it's a good idea. Unless someone is willing to hack it to get around the activation step, it is definitely doing an online check against their servers every time you use the app. Color me paranoid, but I suspect they are keeping a close eye on the activation server
There have been cases of closed beta's being pulled before for people sharing APK files, and I have a feeling it would not take long to shut this down if people start doing that.

Both of these were first 2 things I noticed/thought of when playing around with this app. Another thing, tho probably a lot more complex, would be options to tweak the route/routing algorithm. IE, avoid toll roads, stay on highway, avoid highways. If feasible, this would be a great enhancement!
Congrats on creating such a unique and useful app!

It requires GPS Signal to get your current position.
The internet connection e.g 3G/2G/HSDPA/WLAN... is used to calculate the route.
If you leave the route during navigation, the route will be recalculated. this also uses the internet connection.
A 100km long stretch takes about 50kb traffic.
I'm also a little concerned about the amount of data used.
As shown in the video, it is also able to use a 3D-map (used during night ect), is this map downloaded dynamically, or do you purchase a certain map (like western Europe)?
If possible I would like to buy a map once and for all, in order to save on data.

[APP] [18/01/2013] AirDroid 2 Beta

AirDroid already controls your phone from any web browser, but the latest version of the app offers more useful features, like a new "find my phone" service that pinpoints your device via GPS and complete remote control of your device's camera. :good::good: Plus, it no longer requires your phone be on the same network to connect to it.
AirDroid 2 is in private beta, but the developers dropped the invite-only requirement to download. Even though the app isn't up at Google Play, you can download the APK from the link below. If you don't have an AirDroid account, you'll be prompted to create one when you download and launch the app. The two major features: GPS location and camera control, both work seamlessly. :victory:
You have to have GPS on for the 'Find My Phone' feature to work accurately. You also no longer have to have your phone and your desktop on the same network to control it—if you pair your phone and browser by scanning a QR code, you can turn off Wi-Fi and still manage your device over 3G/4G. If you want to give it a try, hit the link below for a direct download.

yeah even you made your first post someday remember? now what? this was a invite-only testing. so it's not available in play store or do you see any information on the website.
Since people are so anal about this but unable to do an ounce of research:
