Once I get the bugs out this will be more reliable and faster than direct links.

Good idea, but I can see this thread going south for Warez claims. be careful or the mods will close it. I only have tether acess anyways, not hard to max me out at home.

No warez I will make sure of that. Only material already available via conventional methods in this forum only faster.

I think this is a great idea. I can't seem to get your tracker to load here at work. Perhaps you could limit new torrent uploads to approved rom devs upon request to help curb the chances of warez related issues.

Do you have issues using BitTorrent @ work? Did you get the torrent file off my FTP??
Try re downloading the torrent file. I made some changes.

I'm in the military and on a government computer, there is a very restrictive firewall in place. I can't even get your tracker site to load. No worries though.

I already have all the cdma items and ROMs on my http server linked to in this forum. I already have over 6 GB transfered. You up for a little competition?

Just a heads up, cant get either torrent file to download. And I am sure my utorrent is fine, got at least 200 things seeding right now...

Thats odd i can connect here at work???? Let me try a different way.

Oh don't get me going on the unrapidshare, it will show it's coming down fast and pause most the time still displaying high data d/l, then half the time just to get to the page have to use a proxy, then when you really need something thats in parts it says some crap about reaching daily download limit my proxy has a limited data download size so tend to give up, and use the file name to find elsewhere.
You still on dial up?

Bittorrent mirror for android related files

I set up a page for android related files on my server. I am currently mirroring all the JF 1.41 images and build environments, and the Debian installer. I am using bit torrent so I don't go over my quota on my server, and since it is a great way to distribute large files.
I put this up since a lot of people were complaining about RapidShare and MegaUpload, which is the only place (that I am aware of) to get the debian installer and some of the theme files people are posting.
I will try to get most of the themes that I see in this forum up there later this week. Its also very basic right now, i'll add a way to add and remove files yourself later. For now you have to email me using the online form.
Here's the page: http://hexial.net/android/torrents/
Give me some feedback... Would you all use this?
yes, if its fast and virus/malware free.
now we need a torrent client for android..downloading updates on the go..rename it and install...life couldnt be easier!

Yup! My goal is to make this a faster alternative than MegaUpload or similar sites. I have 4 or 5 seeds for each file, and 2 of those connections are 20mbit upload speed :-D
And of course I am going to try and keep all the files virus/malware free. I double checked that all the md5 sums matched the originals posted by JesusFreke, so they are all virus free on my end.

Actually, at first I really liked the idea of OTA updates via bittorrent... then I thought, hmm people are going to apply the update, restart the phone, and then we are going to have tons of seeds out there seeding over GPRS? Nah, I think ill pass =P
(It probably wouldn't be all that bad with 3G, but out here I get GPRS... data speeds are unbearable)
I wouldnt seed from my phone but it would be kinda cool to dl stuff to my fone like vids that are already in the correct format, or music. As far as speed goes, Edge seems pretty quick, i dont have much access to the 3g network, but Edge is better than GPRS, at least for me.
Forget flash we need utorrent for android.

Sorry, but that is a paid app.
@TheBiles
Great idea, but maybe opening a 4shared account and giving a link in the first post is a better way to handle it. It would be great if you could maintain it, and have those fulfilling the requests mail you a copy of the apk(s) for inclusion.
Use this thread as a request thread. That way, if anyone want's to cause a fuss, xda has no involvement, and you can be the final judge on what you think is "free" enough to place in your repository. As it stands now, If I were to upload a paid application in the thread, it appears as if you and xda condone it.
P.S. - I'd pull SprintTV and Nav. Posting them in a Sprint Hero specific ROM is one thing, but this way you're making them available to anyone on any carrier with any phone.

Thanks for the advice. I will just upload all of the files to my own web host tomorrow morning and get this going as a request thread, but for the night at least I need some rest. Keep the requests coming, and attach any "protected" apps that you have, and I will download them myself and re-upload them.

So modifying a apk to allow for larger uploads thru the cdma network doesn't count as a development question? I wasn't born yesterday, friend.
Keep in mind, the title of this forum is called "Hero CDMA Android Development
If you want a section for developing and modifying apk's ask the admins.

Yeah I know they dont have anything to do with our amount of bandwidth we receive, what I am saying is that there's some apk, that has to do with sharing videos by uploading them to youtube, that sets some sort of limit on how big the file is allowed to be to be uploaded via the sprint network's internet. Once the limit is passed, it requests the file be uploaded via wifi internet. So, I thought I could be slick and try to do this setup:
USB tether to PC using pdanet,
Turn on Connectify (turns your wireless adapter into an adhoc network boradcaster, essentially allowing the PS3 to connect to wifi internet)
Then turn on wifi on the phone and connect to my PC's connectify.
Problem is, when you turn on Wifi internet it disables the sprint internet connection, so I was connected to a wifi 'hotspot' that had no internet.
Thought it was a good workaround but it screwed me in the end hahah.

I got it, messed around with it at work (sitting outside) and it looked amazing. Then went to use it at the end of the day on my drive home (just to test it out) and it never successfully routed me by the time I got home so I've yet to have a "real world experience" with it, but I assume the servers were just getting hammered or something (connects to server to route, re-route, etc).
Gonna keep messing with it tho because it seems pretty impressive for a beta.
Edit: and before people ask, I don't think sharing the apk is a good idea. It definitely does an online authentication check every time you run it.

hahah.
Well all of a sudden during the authentication step mine is telling me there is an update available and says update or no thanks. If i click update it takes me to the market with a search for the publisher which doesn't return wikitude drive (nor is it available anymore if i search for it) and if i click don't update, it says auth failed and doesn't let me do anything.
Maybe a glitch? Maybe they revoked the beta?
Edit: Just found this on their website.

I don't think it's a good idea. Unless someone is willing to hack it to get around the activation step, it is definitely doing an online check against their servers every time you use the app. Color me paranoid, but I suspect they are keeping a close eye on the activation server
There have been cases of closed beta's being pulled before for people sharing APK files, and I have a feeling it would not take long to shut this down if people start doing that.

Both of these were first 2 things I noticed/thought of when playing around with this app. Another thing, tho probably a lot more complex, would be options to tweak the route/routing algorithm. IE, avoid toll roads, stay on highway, avoid highways. If feasible, this would be a great enhancement!
Congrats on creating such a unique and useful app!

It requires GPS Signal to get your current position.
The internet connection e.g 3G/2G/HSDPA/WLAN... is used to calculate the route.
If you leave the route during navigation, the route will be recalculated. this also uses the internet connection.
A 100km long stretch takes about 50kb traffic.
I'm also a little concerned about the amount of data used.
As shown in the video, it is also able to use a 3D-map (used during night ect), is this map downloaded dynamically, or do you purchase a certain map (like western Europe)?
If possible I would like to buy a map once and for all, in order to save on data.
