Hello,
I've recently been given a Galaxy S3 phone. The phone has preciously been dropped in from what i understand it some water. Now the thing is. The phone's touchscreen is broken as in the touch doesn't work. the LCD however works so you can clearly see the image. Now for the rest the phone works. When you charge it up and start it. It functions properly loads up the operating system even the alarms work well i can't really press anything since the touch is fried but everything else looks good. So now i am about to order a touch screen + lcd replacement for it, including a backplate since it's kind of bruised. My question is what is your opinion of this.
The phone has previous been taken to a store where they demanded 300 euro to fix it under the condition that the touch screen was broken. So it has been researched from what i assume were professionals.
Before you ask i have plenty of knowledge with repairing fixing delicate computer equipment i have no knowledge of how to change a screen however plenty of online videos about it and it doesn't really look that difficult. Now my question is do you think the phone would work if i am to change the LCD + Touch.

Ok so i walked into my desk at work last week and cracked the LCD - i had already puchased a new digitiser as my screen was getting pretty scratched up so i figured i'd simply buy a new LCD and take the phone and new parts round the corner to my local phone shop who were happy to replace my screen and return the next day.. great.
Fast foward and now i have a BIG problem. The new LCD doesnt seem to work once the phone has booted. SO, when you turn the phone on you get the usual windows boot screen with the rom info in red in the bottom corner (im using Monx's latese 6.5 rom). After that though it all goes Pete Tong, when then alignment wizard starts the screen goes nuts, flickering like an old TV and not displaying a steady image. The guys at the store say the phone is damaged from the knock to the screen however before I did a hard reset and removed my sim and SD card the parts of the LCD that were still able to display the today screen etc were showing everything correctly and flicker free and even allowed me full touch control with the stylus.
I basically need some advice from people who know a thing or two about replacing Touch Pro screens. Despite what the shop guys say i suspect that my screen is not compaitble with my Touch Pro which is originally a UK Vodafone but i now live in Canada and got the new LCD from the States. The person who sold me the LCD said it was compatible with all Touch Pros & Diamonds, but then he would say that wouldnt he!
My options are either buy another LCD and hope that does the trick or bite the bullet and get a new crappy canadian contract and a new handset. please help me ive tried the search and cant find anything that helps me and im desperate for a solution!
Cheers
Its a LCD issue what you got, my guess is that the person at the store either gave you a faulty one or its a duplicate lcd, also cleaning the LCD connector with alcohol would be a good idea. Its very rare that in the Diamond/Touch Pro category the connector to get damaged.
Picked up this phone from CL. The person was claiming that part of the screen is not responding to touch.
I have seen it when I picked it up, but I thought that I will deal with it when I get home.
I was keep playing with the phone almost everything it's working on it except the volume buttons and that horizontal line where the #456 is on the dial pad.
I have removed the battery and noticed that the white sticker it was pink, water damage.
Now I don't know what could be the damage here? There is a shadow across the screen also, but it's not a crack.
I have seen this before on a digital camera, it was the aluminum sheet metal under the LCD, had a smudge across on that aluminum finish too.
Couldn't remove it though. Replaced the screen on the camera and it was as new.
Not sure what could be the problem with the phone?
Should I replace the digitizer, since the LCD shows everything correctly? It could be something shorted internally? I have the phone apart, but I don't see anything wrong. Cleaned all the contact with electronic cleaner, no change.
Any help would be appreciated.
Please post all questions in the Q & A section. Thanks! Thread moved.

I think I would replace the LCD and digitizer as a unit. The slightly higher cost would be easier to accept than having to do it more than once, which would probably end up costing more. Either way is a gamble, though, because that might not be the issue.
Volume buttons are notorious on this phone. I have not known or read about someone fixing them. You can get around the problem for the most part by using software to control the volume, using roms that will restart to recovery or boot loader, and the occasional use of ADB commands, but some bootloop situations require the hardware to work.
Good luck with your project and let us know how it works out.
Not just a pretty Pickle.
I'm thinking of buying the whole LCD as a unit, but that is why I'm asking that maybe somebody could tell me if it's the LCD or other hardware.
The volume button it's together with the upper camera board and I guess it has to be replaced together.
Hi,
I've got a question related to the HTC One X. More specifically, all of a sudden my soft keys (back, home, options) started not working. The thing is, I took a look over eBay, and a screen replacement doesn't seem to be that expensive.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure which I would need to buy. I saw there is a LCD screen and a screen digitizer. Which one would I need, or would I need both? I've seen that basically the bottom keys are all connected to a strip and I figure that if I change that that part of the phone, my problem should be solved.
Now, another question would be if I should do it alone, or should I take my phone to a specialist? Taking a look over some YouTube videos, I saw that it's not that complicated to replace the screen of the phone. However, I wouldn't want to start something that would end up messing my phone ever worse than before. I'm not completely retarded when it comes to electronics, but still, better to be on the safe side.
I'm just hoping that some of you guys did this before or has experience with this sort of stuff and can offer some tips.
Thanks a bunch.
You'll need to screen and the digitizer, trying to separate then without destroying either is virtually impossible. The best option if to have it done professionally, but that is also the more expensive option obviously. If you have the right tools and the capability you can do it yourself, but I wouldn't try it unless your confident.

My sister just broke her moto x pure.
The display works, however the digitizer do not works correctly. Cannot post pictures because the wallpaper is containing private information and i cannot change it.
She cannot use the entire screen.
For example on the lockscreen, she cannot use the 8. And the other digits works very badly. So she cannot unlock her phone.
What should I replace (screen, digitizer...) and where should I find the replacement part ?
Thank for your help
You'll need to replace both the digitizer + display as they come together. If you are good at repairing phones, you can get the display from eBay or else send your phone to service center if you don't. I would suggest you to send it to the service center.
You could use a USB OTG cable to connect a mouse and thus regain control of the device in order to clear any sensitive information prior to having someone fix it. I have bought and fixed several Moto X pure edition phones with cracked screens for family members. Most of them did alright, but one phone had the screen replaced, then a cow stepped on it. Although it didn't crack, after a while parts of the screen stopped responding to touch. The screen I replaced it with has not been damaged at all, but parts of it have stopped responding to touch as well. Sometimes I wonder if these phones don't have a particularly weak and easily damaged screen. I sometimes get my replacement screens from GadgetFix. If you fix it yourself make absolutely sure that you get a screen+frame assembly. It's just a few dollars more, and totally worth it. And be careful when you transfer the speaker grill trim to the new screen that you don't press hard enough to crack the screen.
Thanks you, I think I will change the screen and the frame.

Is this what I should buy ?
The screen that you posted does not include the frame. I briefly looked on eBay; you might find one with the frame included for a few dollars less than gadget fix, but for simplicity I just linked this one. On the back side of the display you will notice the screw inserts. That is what you need to look for.

Could you point me to a tutorial or a video explaining how to change the screen
I believe that Ifixit has a whole teardown tutorial for this phone. If not just search YouTube for (phone model) screen replacement, watch it a time or two, and then pause it while you do each individual step. If the first video you watch doesn't explain things in an understandable manner just watch another one. It's been a while since I searched for one, but I think there are at least a few good ones.
Hello.! I have an embarrassing problem with my 13-year-old son's smartphone. He was a satisfied owner of the S7 SM930FM until he went to help his parents in the blanket. Like most "say" teen phones, computers and the internet is something without which life does not make sense. Good concretes. He helped me to repair the car. He places his smartphone in the place where the mask is closed. Sam closes her and forgets about the smartphone. The effect, a broken display (screen crack in several places), strangely everything worked without a problem, with slight lateness, but it worked. Only the spider on the screen disturbed. Telephone after warranty. He was very well looked after. I have a little idea about the replacement of various components in various smartphone models, so I ordered the display and replaced it. The exchange proceeded without any complications, unfortunately after the phone was turned on, the right and left touch keys stopped working. When switching on the phone, the backlighting of these keys is for a moment. I stripped it again to check the tape connection, everything seemed good. I decided to order a tape with touch keys to replace it, it may have damaged during the exchange. I ordered two from two different sellers. I used both of them and unfortunately I still do the same. I put Odin in a clean soft unbranded with the thought that it might be the fault of the software, but it did not help. You can have ideas.
