Hi guys, Im the dev of an app that will allow you to send your Note to sleep when you shut its case. The PR is after the break.
Now that we have three high end tablets with proximity sensors (Note, 7+ and 7.7) its time we did some testing to see what sensitivities we should set in the app by default.
Please help us out with this. Simply download the free app, mess around with proximity settings until they work and report back what lever (in %) you needed.
Note that the current auto-selection prompt will only enable the light sensor if you pick "Tablet" in the first run dialog. You will need to turn the proximity detection on manually in the app's settings, as your tablets actually have this sensor!
Thanks in advance, and i hope you like the app
--------------------------------
Power Switch:
Power Switch is a tool for devices with cases - somewhat like the SmartCover, it will turn off the screen when you shut the case. If you have a device with poor
battery life, Power Switch can save tons of juice by switching it off entirely after a given amount of time asleep.
The app works best on phones using the proximity sensor. On tablets, the light sensor is the most efficient method of knowing that the case has been closed.
Features:
- Sleep seconds after shutting case
- Automatic shutdown (rooted devices only)
- Set up a schedule using Night Mode
- Configure sensor sensitivity
- Facedown to turn screen off
- Persistent notification
- Plays sound to let you know that the screen has turned off
The app has gone through an extensive testing process here at XDA under another name. Thanks to everyone who helped make it happen, you're the best!
Remember to adjust the light sensor sensitivity settings in a light environment for best performance, and use Night Mode if you are on a tablet with a poor ambient light sensor.
If you have any comments or suggestions, please use this thread or the in-app feedback tool. Please be aware that we ignore logs without descriptions.

The Lite version of the app is exactly the same as the Pro, only the timers are restricted to a minimum of twelve seconds.

What the hell is deep sleep friendly?
It works like pressing the power button, except it uses the sensors.
Now, please, lets get back on topic, read the OP!
He means does the app stop the phone from going into deep sleep, therefore using more battery. I've been using it for a few days and i think that it does affect the deep sleep as mine is at 200mhz most of the time now.
I think that the app works well with the original flip cover and the audible notice is a nice touch
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
No, in android sleep is sleep. All apps will shut down unless they have a push service. The sensors will also shut down.
Basically all the app does is press the power button for you, nothing else.
I'll have to investigate and see what's keeping it awake then

Read your thread.Your findings are absolutely correct.
I have posted same issue somewhere else. But when i have used both sensor Proximity + Light, it was worked for Me.
battery hog?
I am using it, and it seems to work OK apart from some false positives when browsing in landscape. The 'go away until next screen off' is a good option!
I am finding it is taking quite a significant %age of battery, however. Not killing the phone, but 5% when my screen is only at 18% (a light-use day).
Anything that is going to hog 5% of my precious battery is going to be looking nervously at the door. I'll try it some different use scenarios, but I think I'll just settle for the 1 min time-out. Really, if I am not doing anything with my Note for a minute, I've either fallen asleep or put it down!
1.1.4
Added option to disable in landscape
Fixed issue with switching Night mode
Fixed many device specific bugs (Tab 7.7, 8.9, 10.1)
hope it allows deep sleep for android

Yes, this does not affect sleep at all - it only puts to sleep, not wakes.
Good work mate! Your app is very usefull with Note' s flip cover! Keep up the good work! Thank you!

Well this is weird. This morning I woke up and grabbed my G from next to my bed and the touch screen is being all slow and not responsive. I can't swipe left or right without doing it very slowly and deliberately. Same thing with bringing down my notification drawer.
Its making the phone near unusable. Even to type this all out I couldn't use Google keyboards swipe typing feature and have to hit each individual button really slowly.
Anyone know what could be causing this?

Install this and see how it behaves https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=multitouchpro.tests&hl=es
Thanks for that useful little app. It registers all my fingers fine, and its good if I swipe slowly, but if I swipe too fast it loses my finger for a second, which I guess is why I have a problem swiping.
I have no idea what's causing this still though since its been working fine for the past month.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?
Do you by any chance have the charger plugged in while doing this? (My nexus 4 screen acts that way when I connect the wall charger)
Have you tried resetting it?
It's not plugged in, I did try rebooting it but not a reset. I'll have to give that a try now.

Same here, part of the screen is unresponsive, except if you move your finger very slowly.
I have the problem described by OP if I am charging with a high ampere charger. It is solved by me by turning the screen off and on after unplugging it.
I forgot to update. The problem just kind of fixed itself over a few hours. I took it to work and it was still having the problem, and then I took it out of my pocket a few hours into my shift to check a text and it was working like usual.
I dunno. Magic I guess.

Guy who did a waterproof test on the Moto G encountered the same issues you described. As the phone dried out the screen slowly came back to life and became responsive again.
I suspect that you have moisture egress into the device, it could cause a strange capacitance differential affecting the digitiser, or even just a short.
Have you used the phone, in shower room, in pocket while exercising. In rain. Taken it from cold outdoors, into very warm indoors. All these things can cause moisture to condense inside the device.
If it happens, the symptoms will reduce as the phone completely dries out...

definitely your charger I had the same problem when using a generic charger... try a different charger

this behavior happens to me with stock keyboard in whatsapp, after star typing and pressing the "a" key in loop, press the home button and start multitouch test (YAMT) and the screen area that is not responding is where the "a" key is located....
after a while the screen start to response in a normal way...
i tried swift keyboard and guess what.... the same issue again....
this is weird...
note: try to remove the grip shell
Solved,
Okay so I had this issue just now and i got worried, but there is nothing to worry about. The problem is in the charger, use a different charger
my 2 have done this a couple times and I think they were charging at the time. I unplugged the charger but no change. Then I removed the silicone cover I put on and it immediately worked fine both times I did it. I did not turn phone off or reboot. It did not start this trick until I put the covers on. Covers barely touch the screen on the sides. When I replaced cover it still worked until the next time it became unhappy with the cover. Anybody else...................
Update-just checked my other phone. I removed cover w/o unplugging and it did not restore it. Unplugged charger and it was fine. Almost seems like both are contributing to it. more research necessary..........
Maybe the phone just wants to be fondled???????

thank god for this, how long will it take to final all dry out?
I hate this. Every time I plug the phone in or place it on the wireless charger, the screen comes on. When it hits 100%, the screen comes on again. This is completely unnecessary.
Does anyone know of a way to disable that?
Exposed could, but we know how that goes...
It's not available for the S6?
Nope
Bummer. It really helped with a lot of things on the S4. Is it in the works?

AFAIK, there's a working version for Lollipop. How compatible it is with the S6, I do not know.
just ignore it? The phone turns itself back off in 5 seconds.
Wow, yeah, you're right. Why would I take some little pet peeve about my phone and expect to find help from a community of people who dedicate their time to such things as removing the name of your carrier from your lock screen? Maybe we'd all be better off if we just sucked it up and lived with everything exactly the way the phone came out of the box.
I've worked around this in the past using Tasker and Screen Filter. Just set tasker to activate a fully black screen filter on top of your screen for a few seconds whenever the phones is sat on a wireless charger. Same thing when it's fully charged. Works great.
Not for everyone

I like to have the phone set to "screen always on when charging" so when i have it plugged in and am sort of using it, the screen won't time out on me. However, I don't need the screen on when it's not in "use". So with the phone set to screen always on when charging, it suchs that it awakes once 100% charged or when notifications come across and then stays on. This is exactly why all the customization mods are so beneficial. I don't wan't the screen to ever turn on, unless I initiate. Where can I choose that without a custom rom or mod of some sort, I don't think its possible. Anyone got a good option for me?
As the title states, my screen won't time out. It started happening a few hours ago. I'll leave my phone down, it'll dim the screen, but it won't shut the screen off. I have the timeout setting set for 30 seconds. Ironically enough, this happened to my first note 5 and I thought it was a manufacture defect so I exchanged it for a brand new Note 5 and now the issue came back. Any one know what I can do to alleviate this problem? Is an app causing the screen to stay on? I'm not sure what to do at this point. Any advice would be great.

I seemed to have the same problem and then noticed my pen was ever so slightly out. I had already tried restarting, and that didn't help, but then put the pen back in and it's been fine since.

I seem to be having the same problem. I only notice it when it's charging. I hit the lock button and screen goes off, but it goes back on again if I get a notification. I get up in the middle of the night and the screen is on, very dim but on nonetheless. My spen is not out, I checked that also.

Hey guys, thanks for your responses. It seems as though it was an app that was causing this timeout issue. I just manually uninstalled some apps that I never use/came with the phone and all is back to normal. Thanks for your replies!

May I ask what apps you Uninstalled that nay have caused this, because m8nrme is still doing it. It only does it when it is charging and I get an email or message notification. Could that be the problem? I would hate to turn off messaging notifications.

If anyone is interested. I think I figured out the problem. I went into developer options and unchecked screen awake while charging. Stupid mistake, I have no idea why that would be turned on by default.

Hey man sorry for the delayed response. I actually didn't have screen awake on in developer mode. As for the app culprit, I'm not sure which app was keeping my screen on but I suggest disbaling/uninstalling every app that you don't use/need. It worked for me and hasn't been giving me a problem since then.

It could be if you had your carrier transfer stuff for you. We use developer options to turn USB debugging on. Also states to use the stay awake while charging option. Doesn't require it but lets us transfer without interruption. Just make sure its switched off under developer options.

Hey, just got official Samsung LED cover which is real nice but what I don't like is having security set to lock the phone after 5 minutes I got the phone locked each time I close the lead. So I need to unlock it every time after.
Is there a way for the cover to use my settings? It looks like it acts just like power button which force locks the phone (and I do what to keep this behavior for the button).

I guess you have to compromise. Set your auto lock to a shorter time.
I do think the LED case is awesome and the close/lock is not an issue to me. But I do see how it could be a problem to some.

I'm pretty sure there are separate settings for some accessories including the LED cover.
I'm sure I have seen some settings on my dad's S7 Edge and he uses the S-View flip cover with it. I will have to recheck his phone...

There's a LED pattern editor to it but nothing else I found so far.
Sorry off topic but still has to do with the led cover.
Anyone pair the led view case with the whitestone dome glass screen protector? Just want a simple yes they are compatible or no, it will lift the protector is fine. Thanks

Hey Desperex, I had the same problem with my Note 9 but I found a setting that make the cover not lock the device anymore:
Settings -> Biometrics and Security -> Other security settings -> Device admin apps -> Google Pay. If Google Pay is on, the screen will be locked, if off, it won't.
Hope it works for you too!
