[HOW-TO] Root Galaxy S4 Google Edition JB4.3/4.2.2 - Galaxy S 4 General

[UPDATE]: Reported to be working with JB4.2.2!
None of the links provided are created or owned by me. These downloads have been developed by other developers.
This guide is only applicable to Galaxy S4 Google Edition with model number GT-I9505G running JB 4.3!
[UPDATE]: Reported to be working with 4.2.2 as well!
Verify the device's model number by navigating to Settings > About Phone.
Make sure:
If running Windows, download the GS4 drivers, here.
Enable USB debugging mode on the phone by navigating to Menu > Settings > Applications > Developer Options.
Make sure that a custom recovery tool such as ClockworkMod (CWM) or TWRP recovery is installed on the phone.
Make sure that the phone has at least 70% charge, so it doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.
Verify that the device is factory unlocked (not locked to a specific carrier) and its bootloader unlocked. This should be correct, as you are running on a GE rom.
Instructions:
1. Download Chainfire's SuperSU Auto Root tool for Galaxy S4 GT-I9505G on the computer.
2. Connect your Galaxy S4 to computer via USB cable and copy the downloaded files to the root folder of your phone's SD card.
3. Turn off your phone, and disconnect it from your computer.
4. Boot the phone into CWM recovery mode by pressing and holding the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons together.
5. In recovery mode, perform a full data wiping task. To do so, choose wipe data/factory reset and click Yes to confirm the action. Then click wipe cache partition and wait until the process completes.
6. Choose wipe dalvik cache under the advanced option. Wait until the process is finished.
7. Select Install Zip from SD card and then click Choose Zip from SD card. Browse and select the SuperSU root file which you copied earlier to your phone. Then tap Yes to confirm root installation and wait until the install process completes.
8. Reboot system.
Your JB 4.3 GS4 is now rooted!
[UPDATE]: And 4.2.2!

Hi thanks for the reply. After several tries. I was able to find an img and then used Odin to root the phone. Now that I have done that it will stay that was using a few good apps. Chainfire had put up CF-Auto-Root-jflte-jfltexx-gti9505.tar which worked for me.
Thanks again

[HOW-TO] Unbrick Galaxy Tab 3 10.1

So I recently bricked my tab3 and I could not figure out anything or find anything to do the unbrick in ODIN. I thought that I would share what I found so it can be easily located for a user in the future.
This is going to restore your tablet back to STOCK 4.2.2. This is the most recent version provided by samsung.
YOUR GOING TO NEED DRIVERS INSTALLED!!
THIS FIRMWARE IS FOR THE P5210 MODEL ONLY! IF YOU HAVE P5200 OR P5220 YOU NEED YOUR OWN FIRMWARE! I will be adding them to my MEGA account soon.
1. Download this file:
https://mega.co.nz/#!7BQkCQrT!hdJXKXTVZe_Rx63CYE3xPESxxNr9FWqgGQgmOz1DH3A
Mirror: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23311191640113436
(I have hosted it on MY MEGA account so that no one has to go through the crap I did to get the file. The mirror is courtesy of @r_hippy)
2. Download ODIN:
https://mega.co.nz/#!fJRkzTQL!uUN3LLhSCXIHtEFUlUDyPdf48rgEXj1wh5mgV5q8TkU
(Also my MEGA, for convenience, if you want to find it somewhere else then fine)
3.DO NOT CHANGE THE .MD5 TO .TAR! Flash in ODIN as a normal .md5 file.
3a. Extract and open ODIN.
b. Extract firmware.zip
c. Put tablet into download mode. [Hold power and vol down until text shows, then press vol up]
d. Place firmware into PDA section, and wait to verify. When finished click START at the bottom.
You have successfully just unbricked and unrooted your tablet. For root again follow this guide:
http://true-android.blogspot.com/2013/12/root-p5200xxuamk8-android-422-jb.html
But use this root.zip

Thanks Zachisimo,
I followed the steps to a "T" and after I flashed my Tab 3, 10.1 nothing seem to be changed.
I have a working tablet but nothing was changed to factory default.
All that I had checked was the Auto Reboot & Reset Time option.
I will re-flash this rom via Odin, Again...
Should I had checked the Re-Partition Option?
Thanks in advance for getting me this far :good:

Oh yes, I never had a problem with that.
I problem was not getting the correct TWRP 2.7 installed so that I could flash a rom.
I was able to use TWRP 2.6.1 that still remained even after I Odin the stock rom twice, to flash Super User but I could not flash a larger zip like the Crash Rom or Infamous Rom on this tablet.
Weird, I dont know why I am not getting factory default.
What do I do to get back to factory . . .

Mount TWRP

Ok guys... I accidently deleted everything in my SD card...
Now that I'm in TWRP, how exactly can I put files back on the storage so I can flash something?
I can't seem to mount the storage on to the computer in TWRP
Edit: Using the Toolkit, I flash zip.. Now I'm stuck on Google logo and my computer says "waiting for device..."
Any ideas? D:
go in to twrp click advanced then click ADB side and follow this
1. Reboot into TWRP
2. in TWRP, Hit andvanced and find Sideload
3. Swipe to start Sideload
4. Open a CMD Prompt window and Change Directories to where your adb.exe is
5. type adb devices and it should show your device conntected and say sideload
6. Your ZIP file should already be in your adb folder
7. You are now ready to push the zip.....
8. type adb sideload nameofzip.zip
9. Wait until it says 100% and reboot back into recovery to flash the ROM
10. If hitting power does not make the screen come one, type adb reboot recovery
11. if adb reboot recovery does not work, hold power and volume down until it reboots to fastboot then go to recovery
Cool. Worked!
Thanks.
You do realize you cab recover much of what has been lost with data digger or other such tool. I recovered about 80% of my photos with it.

[Q] Nexus 5 most likely hardbricked what do I do? Please help

I think my nexus 5 is hardbricked doing a paanodandroid ota update
This happened on latest paranoid android + latest franco kernel + TWRP
I wanted to update pa gapps (first 2 downloads md5 checksum failed, third time it worked) and when the phone booted afterwards, systemui failed and I couldn't do anything. I Thought this wasn't a big problem since the phone managed to boot. I long pressed the power button to shut it down so I could boot into recovery to restore my backup I had recently made. When I tried to boot into recovery it wouldn't do anything. Not boot into recovery and not into fastboot. How is this even possible by simply flashing gapps?
What should I do?
I've tried all the button combinations for more than 15 seconds.

I take it that it doesn't respond in any way to the charger or p.c.

You could have a faulty memory issue

So, at this point it doesn't boot at all? Do you have a link to the gapps you flashed?

If you plug the N5 when he's off, do you see any led?

It doesn't boot at all no.
It was downloaded through the paranoid android OTA app. It was the 20140531 version: http://goo.im/devs/paranoidandroid/roms/gapps

I think it was just a coincidence that it failed after flashing gapps. I'd RMA it. Sounds like the emmc went bad. It's happened on a few n5's.

Will they help me out when the bootloader was unlocked and a custom rom and kernel installed?

That's a bit good news . Thank you
As i mentioned I managed to boot once into the (not working) rom after the (corrupted I think) gapps package had been installed, does that mean that the gapps file cannot have messed up the bootloader since I already managed to boot once after installing the package?

I just think it was a coincidence that your memory went bad after you flashed. Out would have happened even of you didn't flash the gapps. That's my theory anyway

Don't send it to an RMA follow this guide. BSOD/NoBootloader
This is a guide I created following the exact same issue you had. If THIS doesn't work then send it in to RMA

Saw your guide, and thanks for it. But if the device doesn't boot it won't get into the alternate bootloader

Does the PC detect it when plugged in? If so then its not hardbricked.
If you have hangouts I can try to help better.

Thank you. I tried both these guides but none of them worked. I can't get any life in the device.
The PC ony recognizes it as 'unknown usb device'

[HELP] Force close with substratum, unusable phone

So my father decided to update is Galaxy S8 with substratum enabled and now we get SystemUI FC every time and can't use the phone.
No rooted, no custom recovery, no nothing. Is there any way of removing the overlays without wiping data?
I've tried safe mode, but the same happens.
Thanks.

Do you know if usb debugging is enabled? Might be possible to fix without erasing data.

[emoji25] sadly I think a full wipe is your only solution. Can the stock recovery run zip files like TWRP can? Not familiar with stock recovery on Samsung myself.

It can run update.zip but I think they have to be signed...
Tried emergency mode but I can't touch the agreement checkbox
No solution then?
Thanks!

I think it's called Substratumrescue.zip in the root of the phone. There are directions to use it in the help in Substratum. Look it up on your phone. [emoji16]

Yes but I don't think is designed for samsung mode of substratum, also I think stock recovery only accepts signed zips

Welcome. Carbonite backup has a free sms backup app on the play store. It's worked for me a dozen times changing between phones.

Have you tried to boot up in safe mode (Power + Vol. down) to fix the problem?
That worked for me. You just have to uninstall the substratum app and then reboot your phone.

I've got exactly the same problem as mendioned here, but on Moto Z2 Play. I cannot bot in standard and safe mode. But debugging is on. Instaling not signed packages is probably disabled. Is there any solution to fix this without factory reset?
