im a noob so theres no way ill manage to flash a vox phone by just reading wiki so help me out here pls.
1.i understand that i need to cid unlock my phone. but first of all i have to connect the activesync. activesync comes in varity or can i just download one from any site, do i need drivers for the phone?.
2.then i need an ApplicationUnlock.exe-file from a folder. OK so i run the exe file from my computer or do i send to the phone trough activesync and then run from there. do i have to put the folder with the exe file in the phone och the file is just enough. where in the phone should i put the folder or file.
3. what will the screen show so i know im doing the right thing here.
4. after that i should have a VOX_USPL folder with a spl_116_jockyw.bat file that i need to execute. so what do i do with this folder where do i put it, i mean should i execute it from my computer or phone?
5.so if i make to this point i should ok right? btw any reboots along the way i should be aware of? am i forgetting something more steps maybe?
6.so then i need a cooked rom right? like a folder with a bunch o files right? one of this files should be a flash.exe-file. so do i execute it from the folder in my computer while the phone is conected via activesync or do i put folder in somewhere in the phone and execute it from there. what do i do with the other files in the folder?
all this questions makes me confused about if i should or not. i just want to update the phone to 6.1 or higher, is there any official rom update that will go smoother?
The sequence of actions is a little different than you stated.
You need to application unlock the device as it is to allow subsequent actions to succeed.
You must temporarily (or permanently aka "Hard-SPL") put a bootloader on the device that ignores the CID lock. The device is NOT CID unlocked afterwards, but the "ignorant" SPL allows you to flash a cooked ROM nevertheless
Once the above is understood, reading the WIKI should give you the rest of procedures.
hi thanks so much for clearing that out, i think i kind of understand the purpose.
but as you see the wiki left me with so many specific questions regarding to all the necessery steps. if anyone can make or point me to a guide for dummies like me without skipping things that leaves me with questions like the above i would be most greatfull
Okay here is my problem I followed the following tutorial step by step until I got to step 7
addictivetips.com/mobile/install-gingerbread-based-miui-custom-rom-on-samsung-captivate/
After getting to that step they tell you to download cm7-captivate-initial-kernel.tar
from
sourceforge.net/projects/teamhacksung/files/
I have searched everywhere for it and have come up with noting. I tried downloading the .zip file for it but odin doesn't take. zip files it only takes .tar .md5 etc..
If this is the right place to find this file please tell me how to go about getting the file. If someone can be so generous as to give me some in depth insite I would be very grateful. I am really lost right now and have my phone stuck in download mode as to not brick it.
Again thanks ahead of time for anyone who can help me find this file.
BTW I have a samsung captivate if that helps any. oh and sorry for the inconvenience of not posting a direct link. since im new here I am not allowed to post links.
Whats in the zip files
Does it contain he files you need
I am not quite sure what you mean when you say does it contain the files I need. But if you are talking about if I have all the files and completed alll the steps in the tutorial then yes I have.
I just cannot find the file mentioned in the tutorial that is called cm7-captivate-initial-kernel.tar........ I really need someone to point me in the right direction as far as this file goes?
Someone please help me it's been 8 hours that I have my phone in dowload mode as to not brick it. I just need this file... PLEASE HELP
Can someone please reply... I really need to use my phone again. I CANNOT MAKE PHONE CALLS... PLEAS E HELP ME
Try changing the zip extension to tar if that's what it's supposed to be. If you haven't already, unzip the file and see if what you need is inside.
EDIT: You may also want to check the Captivate forums here.
Why didn't you download everything before starting the process?

Ok, let's pretend I know virtually nothing about the inner workings of android phones... Can someone explain in noob terms how I would make a zip file containing some system files that I could "push" onto my rooted phone through the rom-manager? I tried to make a simple zip with some files in it but it would not allow me to install it for some reason.
I've heard of things like this ADB or whatever it's called, or maybe I have to get the zip "signed"? I dunno. Please help a poor noob out. I tried searching for it but I don't even know the proper terms yet
Lets suppose you've followed some guide how-to make an installable zip.If You have installed Rom Manager then you should be able to install cwm just by 1 click (1st option in RM if I remeber) When its installed you simply reboot your phone into recovery(this depends on actuall phone) and there simply set something like "install signed zips only"
edit : im not sure if i get your problem well maybe you need just read FAQs about your phone in its section here.
I was playing with System/app/...
after checking some useless apps and removing them, this happened to me .
I am wonder what did i choose by mistake, and what was that?
check attachments for screen shots please.
I am not sure about Fusion.apk
If yes that's the problem, may some one provide a copy for me.
Thanks.
Actually they are there, and i can use them, but not visible.
Desire S
ICS 4.0.4
Sense 3.6
fusion.apk is part of htc sense framework, just open rom zip and copy that file to /system/app and reboot

LooL Thank BTW.
Haven't played with RUU for a very long time. but if I remember correctly, when you run exe it extracts rom zip file to a temp folder somewhere on your c drive, keep it open and do a search you should be able to find the zip.
A good example of why it's a good idea to make a nandroid backup before playing with the system...

Yep, OP just needs to search and read. This is exactly the method we used to get the .zip originally when the ICS RUU was released by HTC.

IDC i always relock - install RUU - unlock - root.
THATS ALWAYS BETTER TO HAVE A CLEAR INSTALLATION OF SOME THING RATHER THAN PACK INSTALLATION.

That's really nice if it does some thing like that. i did search in %temp% and %user%/app/data
but no trace .
and i am not sure that you are able to use UniExtractor to extract this new type of protected EXE file.
by using CMD, n does command you would get a pack from that EXE file, included a CAB file which is included all data in,
Is there to open a protected CAB?
usualy windows Cabinet files may extract via Winrar, Cabex, Cabextractor, etc ...

No, there is no problem whether you are rooted or not as you said you need the Fusion.apk - which you just need to pull from the extracted .zip file after the first stage of running the RUU on your PC.
I don't have a problem with you - other than the fact that you seem to want to argue with anyone who gives you advice. You asked for a .apk file - you were suggested to extract it yourself from the RUU and then you decide to argue and find reasons why you can't do it. If you want help then read the answers from knowledgeable people and try what they suggest - otherwise what is the point in asking?
As for my 'Thanks' - who cares? I know less than many of the people on here, and you don't get 'Thanks' in Off-Topic, and I am almost never in OT, and it's none of your damn business why people have thanked me in the past.
You seem to have a real attitude of assuming you have a right to be supported. XDA is not, and never has been, a helpdesk for noobs - you need to get that into your head and deal with it.
Edit on this as I wanted to be sure of what I was saying. If you run the RUU then it will extract various info, including ROM.zip, into a temp folder, but this .zip is only useful as an image to flash from recovery, not to extract individual files from. On that basis, look for one of the ROMs that were based on the official RUU - there was a de-odexed, pre-rooted one released fairly shortly after the RUU - and pull fusion.apk from there.
And don't take your rookie mistake and frustration at yourself out on other members of XDA.

My Desire s is running MIUI v5 android 4.1.2 rom about 4 months and it runs Perfect , the best ROM I have ever used, BTW I bought Lumia 920, and I Love it, do not want to go back to android again.
So I was strolling through fixing my phone (again), and I came across the revovery.img file in the firmware. I began to think wouldn't it be nice if someone could look at the file and find the part that allows a breach through secure download. Then add that to the CWM Philz touch file (found on another forum) I was wondering if that is in anyway shape or form possible? Sorry if this is a stupid question...
