Question for devs about bug reports... - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If you were doing nightlys of a rom. In this case CM10.1. You have like 8 or 9 good nightlys with minor issues (nothing that isnt livable) Than you release a new nightly based on your own kernel. In this case it was a minor update. But it totally screws the rom to make it unlivable. Ive never seen random reboots when the phone hangs up phone calls before but yes this one does it ALOT plus all kinds of other freezes.
At that point would you just stop working on the rom you have been doing nightlys and blame it on hashcode coming out with a 3.4 kernel? Rom worked before they changed up the kernel the last time so its not like its a unfixable bug.
Im not sitting here *****ing about the dev taking a long time neither. If they came out and said they were working on it that would be fine. But nope, the whole thing gets ignored...

You are forgetting that people like dh are actively working on the kernel, fixing bugs, and adding features.if that happens to break something else then so be it. These are nightlies and it's the price you pay for moving between them.when we're official with cm there with be stable builds available that people can stick to.

But he will not admit there is any issues or anything being fixed. Also he hasnt released anything since the broken july 8th release.
Fixing issues and releasing nightlys that may have different broken things is one thing. But not fixing the current issues is a different story.

i'll let him speak for himself, but he does know that there are issues. one of them is the bluetooth issue, but he doesn't have a device to stream to to test out a solution. that's why i put up a post for people to donate a headset to him. you're right about him not releasing anything since the 8th, but have you checked github to see if he's done any commits? i would say he has. all of those changes get incorporated into other people's releases such as sks or epinters so really he doesn't need to build himself unless he feels like it. it's not his obligation to tell you which nightlies are better than others. nightlies aren't always better than the night beforehand. i'm personally on a build from the beginning of the month and am very happy with it. identify a nightly that satisfies you and then stick with it until the new issues are fixed.

What's the bt issue? I have none.. I'd think the rebooting when hanging up the phone would be a more important fix than bt.

No idea about that bug.You realize that dh and others do a lot of the coding for themselves so if they don't experience an issue it may not get fixed right away. If there is a bug make a logcat and send it up the chain.

Easiest way to tell if a dev is working on anything is follow the commit logs -- which they are. And I would suggest posting a logcat especially if no one else has reported similar problems. I've not had any issues with the phone rebooting after a call. Only these pesky bluetooth audio issues and screen glitches with maps in landscape orientation. But of course I can't post anything to the dev board on account of my account status...

Can you do a log cat without being plugged into usb? It never gives a problem on the charger or connected to pc other than I've woken up in the morning and it's frozen on the boot screen. That's with it on the charger but sitting there idle.
Also whenever it would reboot it would hang every time and I would have to force a second reboot.
I don't see how they can't see this second forced reboot needed.. It happens anytime the phone reboots on its own.

I use the catlog app. May not catch everything since a rebooting phone would kill the app but it would at least give the dev some info. You could also look at ADB over network located under developer options (in CM).

Sounds like the same reboot cycle caused by the bluetooth bug. Might be the nature of the phone in that these (kernel) bugs cause the phone to hang in the bootloader. I'd be more concerned with capturing the initial fault. No need to troubleshoot the forced reboot if it never causes a panic to begin with...

There is a update.. Still having the rebooting issues. Haven't had any issues with the bt tho.

I've never been satisfied with blue tooth. Even on my OG Droid. I always had issues with it, especially headsets. My motorola razr flip phone never did anything like that. I remember being able to talk on my phone via bt in my kitchen with the actual handset left in the car. Lol. Maybe this new more efficient bt technology will improve all of the issues...

I'm not having any complaints about bt.. I just keep hearing about all these so called bugs.. Maybe it has to do with certain headsets but my sync system in my truck has no problems.. I want these random lockups fixed. I've had it lockup mid typing on a text message.. Wakeup in the morning with it on the charger and it's stuck on the boot screen.. I've even seen it when a fb notification pops up into the status bar the whole thing locks... The bt bug they all speak of shouldn't make the kernel lock after a reboot having to force another reboot on the lock screen. Bt isn't the first thing on the phone to load... It don't even get to the boot animation before it screws up

I have had better luck with name-brand and higher cost devices. Cheaper, no-name brands tend to be a roll of the dice. But BT is developed by a SIG so it falls back to their qualification testing. Bad testing or manf that release devices that have not been qualified will lead to problems.

You sure it is not caused by bluetooth? Your descriptions sound an awful lot like what happens when my BT stack panics the kernel. The later kernels (.86 & .87) seems to alleviate the problem but after a while it ends up crashing the phone. Make sure the BT radio is off and see if it stops rebooting. Now the later kernels seem to add a lag under certain conditions, but it doesn't reboot if I leave the BT radio off.
SELinux is a security feature that will ultimately help avoid exploits (like the APK one). Problem is cm10.1 repo is still being developed on (vs using a tagged branch that only receives bug fixes). So when the razrqcom devs sync with the CM repo's they pull in the features still being worked on. SELinux can be a nightmare until it is completely configured. In the meantime expect breakage -- a side effect of running nightlies BTW...

Well a stable doesnt ever seem to come along. It gets close than it gets hosed by adding features.
I know the point of selinux. But being that stuff has just started to come out wouldnt one think a dev to actually fix the current issues vs adding something that is already known to be buggy and everything.
Also like ive commented before, if the kernel crashes for one reason or another and reboots. WHY does it have a panic AGAIN before even starting to load the boot animation?
Whatever happened scared the **** out of it before so bad it doesnt want to try again? Thats more a joke but it seems that way.

Possible Bluetooth Fix G2x - Works so far

Okay.. I know. This is my first post, but don't use that to determine the validity of the information.
I've been on here for months, just didn't have anything useful to contribute until now.
Switched from rooted Gingerbread MT3G to G2x - was pretty excited till the bluetooth issues set in.
Didn't have the random reboots like everyone else. I think that happened once in my pocket... not thing to write home about there. This damn bluetooth was killing me though. Like a bad toothache badly in need of a root canal. Every time I picked up the phone I was reminded how beautiful but flawed this is.
So my search began. Poured over LG forums, T-Mobile and Google searches, compiling information. It became clear that this didn't seem like a hardware issue. The crappy Andriod 2.2 shipped with the phone was the issue. To me it seemed like this wasn't fully tested before shipping. Has sold tens of thousands of these phones and were largely unaware of the issue - the techs were surprised when the reports came in - mainly from US based customers on T-Mobile. In my quest I stumbled across an app that reported to fix a similar issue on a few other phones and gave it a shot, and it worked. So real simple here you go:
1. Root your phone, if you haven't already done so. I did with a heavy heart. Was waiting to do so but this issue was driving me nuts.. I used these scripts to Mac and Linux (I'm a unix guy):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048309
2. Download, from the market, and run, the following app:
>>>> Bluetooth Fix Repair <<<<
That's it!!
Here's what I did to test:
a. Left headset on, power cycled phone
b. Left phone on, power cycled headset
c. Out of range disconnect on head set, then moved back in range - successfully placed call.
d. Received call from a fresh connect, force range disconnect, then reconnect - successfully received call.
e. Disconnected headset from phone menu, then reconnected, placed call successfully.
f. Left headset and phone on for hours, multiple disconnect/reconnect - successfully placed calls.
I'm using a Blueant Q1, with the Blueant app from the market - BTW.
All seems to be well so far.. Give it a shot
fix the a2dp on gb and i'll give you your first donation.
What were the issues you had? My bluetooth seems to work fine, except the volume seems low and of course it helps to drain the already short battery life -- sorry, don't mean to be adding another battery rant!

My battery life is fine. Lasts the whole day and then some. Check the running apps and kill the unnecessary tmobile apps and anything else that you don't need. Another way to save battery is to drop the data rate down to 2G. Settings --> Wireless & Networks ---> Mobile Nets --> Use 2G. I know, defeats purpose of having 4g, but it works fine for email and IM.
Bluetooth issue:
Bluetooth disconnects and doesn't reconnect. Only way to resolve is to power cycle phone. Sometimes it would indicate that it was connected where it wasn't. Multiple folks have the same issue. Doesn't seem to matter whether it's a headset or car bluetooth.. same issue.

Wish I had the time to get into the ROMs. Don't know how you guys do it..
Returned the original G2x today and got another. Well, bluetooth is jacked on this one also. You know, I shouldn't have to be messing with this damn thing I paid $300 for. It should work.. The right thing for T-Mobile to do is recall the G2x and replace it the new dual core nexus for affected users. This phone is a piece of shyte.
The BT fix was short lived My bluetooth must have disconnected half a dozen times today. Very frustrating.

I have a Blueant Q2 that collects dust because it is useless trying reconnect it every time it disconnects (far too often) while I'm driving, what's the point? Bluetooth is a fail on the G2X.
So the damn bt issue is still not resolved.

ICS fixes the BT issue... but how? And can it be done for previous versions too?
I have tried the ICS CM9 and it seems to fix this BT issue. Not sure how it happens. Can one of the developers comment and maybe implement the fix in their ROM as well?

It works in the SK ICS builds.
I know it is an old thread but would like to share my experience here.
My only desire was to have the bluetooth not disconnect without announcing the disconnect. I saw this issue in GB 2.3.3 and below and saw it fixed on 2.3.4 and above, only to see another issue (no mute via bluetooth) crop up.
I have, however, by sheer luck and burning hours at it managed to fix it for 2.3.3. Haven't tried to see if it fixes the mute problem yet. I am satisfied with Weapon G2x 3.0 R1 .
Here is the link to my post. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1590523. Note that you will loose everything in the internal SD card so be prepared. It seems that the disconnect problem has its root in another partition (other than /data, /system and /cache). I have been problem free for almost 3 weeks now.
Will try with 2.3.4 and above later to see if the mute issue gets fixed too .
Try at your own risk and post results as you find. The reference thread in the post can be used to create an out of the box G2x with T-Mobile ROM so no chance of bricking (I believe this phone is unbrickable ).

All these new roms are amzing however, Hellfire Sandwitch and Pheonix both have this damn Bluetooth issue. I go to make a call and no sound comes to the bluetooth except some static and then it goes away. I hear nothing. I switch to speaker phone and I hear the dialtone on that. What the heck is going on with the bluetooth on these roms? Both ICS and GB share the same problem. I'm using that fix posted on the forums that makes any rom work with the new march 2012 BB update.

No haven't done that. Not sure how you mess with the irl. I know it has something to do with baseband. But I don't think it has anything to do with Bluetooth?

{Q}to follow the cm 10.2 updates

Hi,
I m very interested in install the official 10.2 CyanogenMod based in android 4.3, but is in Nightly phase, i am wondering how much time can take to reach a more stable version, and if is posible to follow the changes, issues and fixes in the daily releases.
I hope someone can give me orientation, thx in advance.
Of course you can. Head over to the thread Nardholio started in the Development section.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2405310
The first post has links to: the official CM site and to the Apex Github. The CM site has a changelog for nightlies. On the Apex Github, they maintain a list of known issues.
It's all there.
I caution you on expectations here. Android 4.4 was just announced with a very unfortunate name. I think Jelly Bean 4.3 has about 60 days to live. It would be silly to expect 10.2 to be stable by then. After 4.4 hits Nexus devices, I bet the Apex guys will shift their focus to 4.4 and we will repeat some of this process...

it will probably never happen.
android 4.4 is just around the corner, so i guess the focus will be swapped on that, as it was for 4.3 and 4.2 before
CyanogenMod will do a final "release" build when 10.2 is EOL which will be the most stable we can make it. We also have a last 10.1 build we consider mostly stable, although it is unofficial. Right now 10.2 does have some stability issues, but most of these will be worked out (there are some bugs in our firmware we will not be able to fix until/if Samsung updates the firmware)

I have random freezes/reboots all the time on the official nightlies -- even the ones people claim are stable. The lockscreen freezes quite often too. Are these known issues or am I just a lucky one? I am running CWM and followed the installation instructions on the Cyanogenmod wiki.
I just installed alogerec and hopefully something will show up to troubleshoot my issue.
Problem with 10.2 nightly as well
I have a problem with the 10.2 nightlies I have tried (all from this week) that I emailed Narholio as he requested.
But since I am a n00b and cannot post to development threads yet I could not post details there. I have not done extensive testing because the screen stays black even though the buttons light up when I try to unlock the phone. I can usually get it to display by pressing the lock button again to lock it, then pressing it again to unlock it right away. This also seems to happen only after the phone has been locked for greater than 20 seconds. If the screen timeout happens, or if press the lock button to lock it, the display almost always works if I unlock it again before 20 seconds is up.
I have not noticed any reboots or other problems, but have not used it extensively because of the black screen problem.

I flashed build 336 last night and still have my phone lock up when trying to unlock it. This doesn't happen every time but when it does it either shows the back and menu buttons illuminated with a black screen or an unresponsive lock screen. In either case it will eventually reboot.

I've seen that problem w/ the freezing while trying to unlock when the phone is OOM. If you can actually get it to unlock after that, check your apps memory usage.
Good idea

Thanks for the suggestion. Checking memory is a good idea, although I really don't have any apps at all installed. Didn't even install gapps when I flashed this time.
Is there a preferred way to check for free memory? Terminal command?

Personally, I always forget to close browser tabs and OOM that way. Check in Settings -> Apps -> Running
Look at the apps you use as well.
When Android was introduced, they rolled it out with a set of guidelines called the application life cycle.
In the document, Google specified how to develop applications and what was available. One option for devs that is powerful is running a thread as a service. It was a feature that was supposed to be used sparingly... (A service is a program that runs all the time--unless the kernel panics and shuts down everything.)
Unfortunately, developers know that Google isn't going to do anything to push them to make quality software. The market is supposed to sort it out.
In many cases, this is not working. People are taking advantage of the lack of QA.
Bottom line: App devs are building software that leaves services running in the background all the time--for no good reason, whatsoever. Many of these services are just there to slurp up your data and send it to their servers so they can sell it.
Holding the back button to fix it? That rarely works. The devs have intentionally built their memory wasting crapware to restart the service if it gets shut down.
Plenty of free memory

I generally keep a tab open to this Relay forum so I can watch what's happening, but not many tabs. Also happens immediately after flashing, without even running any apps, much less installing any.

I really haven't installed any. And when testing different nightlies I just flashed and it happens right away, didn't install a thing on them.
I decided to stay on a version for a while, so have had 20130920 since Friday, and I've used it long enough to know it is consistent. I have found another way to make it happen: incoming phone calls. When phone wakes that way it almost always happens as well. Today it finally showed the screen when I received a call, but 3 or 4 other calls the screen has just been black so I can't tell who's calling.
I discovered another thing since using this ROM for 6 days. Sometimes I get lines/bars/tearing on screen that won't go away until I lock and unlock the phone again.
I have some other phones that are broken, if I can fix one of them I might consider sending this one to a dev to temporarily play with since it seems to be the perfect test case for this problem. The screen is cracked (I got it used in this condition), which I would normally suspect to be the cause of the problem, however since it does not have either problem with stock ICS, stock JB, or the 20130309 CM I'm pretty sure it's related to something in CM10.2. Just new enough to Android I'm not sure how to track it down.
Thank you all for your help!
I have one of these "rev0 cpu" phones and just recently went back to the stock firmware (ugh) because of the lockscreen wakeup lockups. I have gone 3 days so far with no issues. I also have a rev0 cpu phone, and I had a few lockup/reboots since I finally dove in last Monday (9/30) with Staging build 341. However, without me changing anything (still on the same build), they seem to have stopped. Last one I got was 10/2.
Edit: until just now. *facepalm*

Anyone else having issues with the newer nightlies? I have been flashing one a week for a while now and I'm coming from the 14th. tried flashing the 21,22,and 23 all of them are giving me a boot loop at the samsung screen. POLL: Does your phone have a popping noise after KK upgrade?

First off, please read the poll questions carefully. I'm trying to assess if this is an issue with all XT926 phones or just some, and whether the common thread is that only people with unlocked bootloaders (non-dev editions that is) or locked and unlocked bootloaders experience it?
Here is a description of the issue at hand. Please read it through and then vote in the poll, choosing the answer that best fists your scenario:
There is an annoying "pop" or "click" sound that occurs every time a notification sound occurs, or when I start typing (I use Swiftkey and have key-click sound turned on), or when I lock or unlock the screen. This doesn't happen under JB. It only occurs with the KK OTA.
I have an unlocked bootloader and I was part of the soak test. When I received the soak OTA and applied the update, I noticed the sound behavior.
I have since used an FXZ to flash back to stock JB (9.30.1) and applied the official OTA this time around and the popping/clicking noise is still there.
I know this is supposedly the final update to this phone, but this annoying popping noise needs to be fixed. I'm not the only one that experienced it during the soak as well as with the official OTA.
I've done everything that was asked which is the following:
Turned off sound on key press setting - didn't help.
Turned off Touch Sounds and Vibrate on Touch - didn't help.
I don't know if people fully understand what I'm saying. I know that you can have click noises turned on when you do keypresses and such. Those work fine and I know what they are. The sound I'm talking about sounds like an electrical pop, like there is a short in the phone somewhere. It only occurs on the first keypress when I'm typing in something. If that area I'm typing in loses focus (such as the Google search bar) and then I go back to it and start typing again, the pop noise happens on the first keypress but any further typing in it doesn't make the popping noise, just the normal key clicks unless it loses focus and I come back to it again.
Same goes with notification sounds. When the first one comes up, the popping noise occurs right before or with the notification noise. If I keep the screen on and another notification sound/alert comes up, it happens again.
Or, when I unlock the screen, it gives off the popping noise right before the unlock sound. When I lock the screen, it happens right with or just right after the unlock sound occurs, at least that's what it seems to do.
All of these are repeatable issues.
I really hope a fix can be found for this as it is kind of annoying. Otherwise, the KK update seems to be pretty stable.
Thanks!
I'm running 183.46.10 with an unlocked bootloader and I haven't run into this issue.
Not sure if the exact phone type is relevant, but mine is a RAZR HD Maxx.

It may or may not, but I'm going to see how this all fleshes out. Maybe it's a small number of phones, but I do know people on the Moto forums during the soak had reported this same issue.
If it has to do with either the bootloader being unlocked (or I just have a phone that is "bad", but I don't see how Kit Kat would make the popping noise but JB doesn't), then I'm going to live with it. I definitely do not want to trade this phone in and get one that can't be unlocked. That, or they replace it with something else, of course, they may not do that since it's unlocked when it wasn't meant to be.
Actually, just as I was typing this, I heard two pops while the screen was off. No sounds, but when I looked, I had a notification from Google Play stating that there were two updates to apps on my phone. I believe that was why it popped. The phone was set to vibrate, but it still made the popping noise.
There are lots of reports of the same issue by xt907 users who updated to Moto 4.4.2.
I had to deal with something similar when I was working on the branch of 3.4 caf audio code backports to 3.0 razrqcom/cm kernel for cm-10.2/cm-11.0.
If I remember correctly (it's already quite some time ago), I had to make this revert to fix this issue: https://github.com/CyanogenMod/andr...mmit/1212f2e043341016cacd6b0d93435380750bd78e
In any case, it sounds like an issue that needs to be fixed in kernel.

Awesome. That is the first plausible explanation I've heard so far. Everything else has been guesses (turn off this, turn off that, hey what about key press clicks in your keyboard, etc, etc, etc), even though I explain it happens on the first key press but no others as long as the input box keeps focus.
I doubt Motorola will issue a patch for this, but I wonder why it affects some phones and not others?
With the official FXZ out, I decided to reflash my phone with it and the popping noise persists.
Sigh.
I just had this problem last night with whatsapp and thought of this thread. it made a poping noise when I sent a message even though my device was muted.
Another app was doing it as well, I just forgot the name of it cause I was seriously really, really tired ha.

Well, someone on the Motorola forum stated they spoke with a Motorola rep and the rep said an update is forthcoming in the next few weeks to address issues people found after the update, but it was mainly for text messaging issues. Let's hope it addresses this popping noise, but I doubt it.
What sucks is, some of this stuff was found during the soak test and yet, they still released it. Shame.
For unlocked bootloader only!
Boot images for XT926 and XT907 stock kitkat:
XT926: http://d-h.st/vre
XT907: http://d-h.st/KXA
Both boot images contain the recompiled stock kitkat kernel with increased sleep time after lineout PA enable, as in this commit: https://github.com/CyanogenMod/andr...mmit/1212f2e043341016cacd6b0d93435380750bd78e
To be flashed via fastboot:
Code:
fastboot flash boot bootXT926speakerfix.img
or
Code:
fastboot flash boot bootXT907speakerfix.img
Please note that I don't own xt926 nor xt907, so I can't verify that the boot images boot at all, nor that they actually fix the issue.
(xt897 haven't got an official kitkat update yet, and it's possible that it won't happen for Photon Q at all.)
Be prepared to flash the stock kitkat boot.img in case of a failure if you're going to test this. You've been warned.
Please let me know how it works for you, thanks.
EDIT: links updated to correctly re-packed boot images. xt926 image confirmed to be booting and fixing the issue by iBolski.

Thanks for creating this. I tried flashing it and it hung at the Motorola logo. I couldn't get into recovery at all to try and clear cache and dalvik.
When I flashed the original KK boot image, it booted back up.
Not sure if I have to wipe data as well, but I'm going to hold off on that at this time.
Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback.
It's a simple little change in kernel space, no involved userspace actions as dalvik cache or data wipes should be needed for this. If it doesn't boot then it means something has derped in the process of zImage replacement inside of boot.img...

Wow! So far, so good. Popping noise has disappeared and this booted up just fine.
Of course, might have to go through this again if/when the update to the OTA comes out. Supposedly, per a Moto rep, there is another one forthcoming to fix issues with text messaging. Makes me wonder if either the popping noise comes back or is fixed?
In any case, thank you. I'll keep testing and let you know if I run into other issues, but so far, this seems to be working just great!
BTW, what exactly was the fix and what was the cause of this popping noise? Why did it affect only certain phones and not all?
Also, per Android Authority, the upcoming 4.4.3 for other devices fixes an issue with popping noises when playing flac audio: http://www.androidauthority.com/android-4-4-3-bug-fixes-389036/
Wonder if this was the same issue?

As I've said in this thread before, I've encountered the same popping noise when I was working on CyanogenMod moto_msm8960 kernel, during the backporting of caf 3.4 kernel sound related code to our 3.0 kernel.
The commit that fixes it (I've already linked it twice in this thread) is this:
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/andr...mmit/1212f2e043341016cacd6b0d93435380750bd78e
(Now I've noticed that I actually pushed it during my birthday. Do you see the dedication? )
The popping noise may not be too apparent on some devices. Every component has some tolerance, e.g. capacitors of the same nominal value don't have the exact same capacity. So the popping noise may be very subtle on some devices, while it can be rather prominent on other ones. Also, some people are less sensitive to particular sounds.
This case has nothing to do with 4.4.3 flac fixes.
It's specific to WCD9310 audio codec and the speaker amplifier used by moto_msm8960 device family.

I tried the XT926 one but it seems to either loop at the boot animation or occasionally it will come to the homescreen but say something like "com.android.phone has stopped working" in a pop up that wont go away
Edit: should add my phone is on Dhacker's CM11
(bootloader was unlocked yesterday \(^o^)/ )
Edit again:
I restored the stock ROM and flashed it again. Works fine. Not with CM11 though

Indeed. The boot images linked in this thread are meant only for the stock 4.4 ROM.
The fix will be included in CM11 in the future, but it can't merged right away as it is, at this point.
The msm8960dt-common kernel used by CM11 for KK bootloader is now shared by many Motorola devices (as Moto X, Droid Ultra/Maxx, in addition to newly included support for original moto_msm8960 line).
As this patch increases the audio latency, we will have to figure out the way how to make it optional first.
Not even every xt926/xt907 device needs it...
I will talk about it with David later, but I'm currently busy working on 3.4 kernel based CM11 for Photon Q which is stuck on JB bootloader as the KitKat update for Photon Q has been unfortunately canceled by Motorola. Once I'm done with Q (I need to finish it before we switch to supporting KK bootloader only by the official CM moto_msm8960 builds), I'll get back to this.
Thank You!!!!
So glad I found this thread - this popping noise has been killing me ever since the upgrade. BL was unlocked because I had missed my window to unlock before getting the patch, but that has now since been fixed with the news of the exploit re-appearing.
This fix appears to have worked for me - I was always able to tell that split second before my phone was going to make a sound because of that damn pop. Much appreciated!

The problem is in the touchscreen firmware and the fix have to be released from synaptics and not frome Oneplus.
The fact is that it may take a few or a long time based on the issue and it may be enven never be fixed, who knows.
As now i am really disappointed. They should have never release da device knowing of such a major bug.

No, nothing related to the charger tho haha. the problem started as soon as i turn on the phone for the first time and it went crazy like that since then. i flashed almost every rom on here still no good. i flashed fusionjack slimsaber rom earlier and it really improved alot . you might want to check that rom out.i'm gonna stick w/ slimsaber for a while now i guess

Thx for the advice. For me the issue seems to be solved randomly when I restored the 33R in Twrp. However some other problems remain: like not getting back to the mobile Internet after leaving the wifi area or loseing the network at all ( curable by switching on and off the airplane mode or rebooting respectively).
My phone is cursed really xD

I'm not sure if this is the same issue, but when you run a touch screen test, does it work with more than one touch? IE is multitouch working? I had an issue the other day and I resolved it by turning off the phone, attaching it to the charger and then turning it back on (read it on the oneplus forum). It is a known issue and they are working on bringing us the fix.
Hope this is helpful.
I have this issue too, although it's been mitigated somewhat by the most recent software patches they pushed in 30O and 33R. I'm on a CM nightly at the moment and it's certainly usable. I made the issue a lot better by disabling haptic feedback in the SwiftKey settings - it almost feels like that extra effort to run the vibrating motor causes the screen to respond badly or something.
Is it doing this?
http://youtu.be/XsGPsDP4V0U
If so this is what mine is doing and it's soooo annoying trying to type.
http://www.androidheadlines.com/201...ti-touch-issues-oneplus-one-fix-incoming.html
Some-not me, have been able to mitigate the problem by running a code through terminal emulator.
This has been brought up in CM bug log as Bacon 55.
You don't have to be rooted to do this.
Type: su (if you're rooted)
Type: cat /sys/class/input/input0/baseline_test
Press enter.
Note that you will need to do this every time you reboot your phone.
Credits to a member on jira cm. Forgot to name! Hope it works for you
I've tried everything and everything failed.
Let's hope synaptics pushes out a fix soon. I can't stand this issue. Basically two different touches near each other are recognized as a swype -_-'
i did a test using multitouch test app. i use 1 finger touch on the phone and got a red dot, finger #2 gave me a blue dot . as soon as my 2 fingers get close together 1 of the dot disappear, also test w/ 4 5 fingers same result .thats why if you text really fast , you get alot of missing words and sometime it lag and get stuck.
I think that until this gets fixed the phone will be not ready to be sold,too...

As long as the touchscreen issue is not fixed the phone has to be considered to be bugged and faulty. I would not spend my money on a defective phone at a very few weeks from N6 release that will be a superior terminal by far.
Even if it gets fixed it will be not worthy the same as N& is near to come anyways.
I wish i didn't buy mine.

And by the way who knows if the ghost touches/swypes problem is not even a software issue just as the multitouch not working when placing the phone on a non-conductive surface...

Problem with my OnePlus One's Screen!

Hi there,
(Im opening a new thread as the old one was completely off the topic of the original post)
So on CM11S, my phone screen was working fine. After the CM12S update, my phones screen sometimes doesn't respond correctly when I go to unlock my phone with the unlock pattern. (The timing of the update and the problem occurring may just be coincidence) Its as if holding your finger on the screen isn't registered as staying on the screen, its like the phone thinks I am lifting my finger off and reapplying it very quickly, I cant draw my unlock pattern and unlock my phone. It also affects the 'swipe down' I must do to get the unlock pattern prompt.
If I restart my phone, it usually fixes the problem. Although in the past few days, it has started happening more frequently and sometimes restarting the phone doesn't solve the issue. It is becoming more of a frustration now because of how frequently I have to restart my phone just to unlock it.
I first believed that using a glass screen protector was the problem, I thought the glass was causing ghost touches, so I removed my glass protector and replaced it with a film protector, at first it seemed that this was the problem, but I have just encountered the problem again. I'm not sure if its a hardware or a software issue, because restarting the device is fixing the problem most of the time, but its also switching off all power to the digitizer during a reboot so I cant tell what is the culprit.
I've opened a support ticket with OnePlus but it says it can be up to 10 days before I get a reply, I figured I'd post here too to see if anyone else has had similar issues or even found a fix.
Thanks in advance!
I had the same problem
I was having the same issue, although I never updated to CM12S. Instead, this happened to me when running Exodus Lollipop ROM and the SlimLP ROM. Since then, I have switched to Paranoid Android Alpha2 and have not had the issue recur in the last few days running PA. So to me it seems like a software glitch in many of the Lollipop ROMs. Try PA if you like and see if it's fixed.
welcome to ghost touch
google "oneplus one ghost touch" and join the hundreds of other known cases
I had a feeling this was the ghost touch issue, but my phone hasn't really had actual ghost touches, its just that most of screen stops working. I've got a few videos of it happening. First the screen goes a bit unresponsive, then after a short while, about 1/3 of the screen is completely unresponsive, I switched on show touches in development options and you can see that from the middle to the bottom of the screen there is no response unless I use the very edge on the right side, then it works, its like it has a dead spot. If I reboot my phone, that usually fixes the problem for a while, sometimes up to a whole day, but the problem comes back with time.
I was given a patch by the OnePlus automated support message, and it says my case has been forwarded to a specialist. I have just applied the patch which has rolled me back to CM11, I'm guessing it did more than just that, but the patch and notes don't really explain what it does. Either way, I'm in the process of receiving OTA updates so I can get back on CO12 so I can hopefully restore my data with my ADB backup (never done this before, not rooted my One yet)
Has anyone had any success with this patch?
Thanks
EDIT: So my ADB Backup isn't restoring on my phone. I am using Holo Backup (formerly Simple ADB Backup) and when I chose restore and select the backup, it just show the output for the help command from ADB and then doesnt appear to do anything else. Are there any manual commands to restore my backup or have I done something wrong?
Try going back to cm11s and then check...
Sent from Android (a google product)
Hi there,
So heres an update, I applied the first patch and it rolled me back to CM11S and the issue was still present on CM11S, I then got OTA's back up to CO12 and the issue still happens. I have turned off the off screen gestures and the ambient wakeup thing. It doesn't happen as often but when it happens, 2 restarts are needed to get it running smooth again.
My support ticket with OnePlus has gone quiet and I don't really know what my next step is? I have heard there is a second patch but I couldn't backup properly last time with ADB so I don't know if I want to go through all of the wiping and reupdating again when people report the 2nd patch is also ineffective.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I feel a bit cheated now knowing that my phone has what I can tell to be a manufacturing defect / hardware issue.
Another update here.
So after a week of silence from the OnePlus tech support, I have a new person handling my ticket and he has told me that I need to apply another display patch. I'm guessing this is the 2nd patch and not this final patch which was mentioned by Carl on Facebook.
Either way, I ran into a problem applying the 1st patch, I couldn't make a proper backup of my phone before I did the patch. I used SimpleADBBackup which I thought would work well but it took a very long time to create the backup and then when I applied the backup back onto my newly flashed phone, It missed many apps, only did app data for a few apps and didn't take any of my pictures or SD storage, so all my SMS and Call log backups were also lost. I would like to take a proper backup this time but I don't know how to do it? I don't trust this ADB backup method, even on the Simple ADB Backup program, it admits that ADB backups are hacky and untested.
I have been trying to use Helium but for some reason, my phone wont get past connecting it to the computer companion app, I have all phone drivers and ADB drivers installed correctly, but helium on the android side cant seem to see the computer app, the computer side of the app says that helium is enabled, but on my phone it is stuck on "waiting for the helium desktop app".
I feel like I'm having the worst luck with this phone, and its frustrating because I really like this phone and this flaw is really getting in the way of using this phone, I counted 8 restarts in one day due to the screen not working.
I hope someone can help me out, I don't want to fully wipe my phone again and I cant seem to back anything up correctly!

I'm not sure if a full solution has been found yet. I read on Facebook that they are working with Synaptics to make a final patch which should solve the issue.
I've given up on trying to backup my phone without root, it just seems impossible to do right. I've just applied the 2nd display patch and got my phone running again, I think I may stay on CM11 and just forget lollipop until this issue gets resolved. I'm pretty sure last time I was on KitKat, the issues were there still but it may be less frequent, who knows?!
Do I have a better chance of seeing this screen issue less on KitKat or should I just update to CO12 for the 3rd time?
Another update here,
I have been instructed and have booked a remote session with OnePlus. I'm guessing they are going to be flashing CO12 or OxygenOS and hopefully some kind of display patch or calibration fix. I really hope this solves my problem, the issue has become a daily occurrence and I have also finally seen a ghost touch, it looked like it was trembling . I really love this phone apart from this issue but it happens way too often to ignore it. Ill post what happens after the session.

Thanks for this, I'm not going to root yet though because I think I'm finally at the stage where I can start the RMA process, I have a new video of the touch screen being unable to maintain a touch and drag gesture, and then another video doing the same action but just after restarting my phone - it works fine after the restart.
During this support session, I was flashed onto Oxygen OS and I really miss CO12 now, so many features that I grew accustomed to are not present in Oxygen. Oxygen does seem quite solid, but I've gotten way too used to all the features of Cyanogen.
Oh well, ill live with it until I get another reply from the support team.
I write with the assistance for 10 posts at today and I declare them to STOP sending me those bug non fixing ROMS/ZIPS...
I will replace by myself the screen (they don't change it in warranty because I've on the frame some dents... )
It's a clear HW issue, on any software, if the display degrade to a "fail stage" you wan't come back never to a total solve situation.
I loved my Oneplus, but they buy some batches of too cheap display, and after some month, I see clearly the results.

Thanks man,
It went well, I have been issued an RMA and will be sending it back soon. Just waiting on the postage label.
Ive just received my new OnePlus One today, very chuffed as it hasn't cost me anything. RMA and Support with OnePlus may be a bit slow but at least they do the right things!
To anyone facing screen issues, create a support ticket and persist with it, it should pay off!

Your a bit late here man, that phone has been sent back and I'm on my 2nd OPO now, using the latest official CO12 build with these touchscreen fixes. No touchscreen problems on this phone.
