In ~November I used my moms upgrade and got the S3. I rooted and flashed CleanRom right away.
As far as I know the GPS on the phone never worked correctly and I had no idea how much I used the GPS feature. It always messes up and says I'm 100m+ away from where I actually am. I'll be driving and it constantly reroutes and says I'm on different roads. I can normally get to where I'm going but it is pretty dangerous while I am driving
Anyway, two days ago I dropped the phone and shattered the screen. I called Verizon and told them about the GPS and the screen and said since the screen was damaged the warranty was void and to call Samsung.
My question now is.... after I fix the glass, (which I'm already going to do, already bought the kit), do you think Verizon would warranty it still to fix the GPS?
Thanks.
PS. I have tried a lot to fix the GPS, including the screws by charger fix, reflashing the rom, etc.

Have you tried other Roms I have noticed some are way off others spot on I'm on moar ATM and it is fairly accurate. I could not use clean ROM due to it being so inaccurate also kernel that is used can change the accuracy too.

I've honestly never tried any other rom except for CleanRom (I did try synergy, but it was only for about a day; and didn't try gps).
Any ROM suggestions? Would you recommend MOAR?
Did you try tightening the screws in the upper corner by the GPS antennae as well?
Also your warranty was voided the second you flashed clean Rom. You'd have to Odin stock to trick them. The screen shouldn't matter as long as the repair puts back an oem screen.

I tightened all of the screws, but focused on the bottom screws. Should the top screw (right next to headphone jack) also be tightened pretty well?
The only improvement i've ever seen is when I do the a-gps but i'm not even sure if it works - i think it may just be me thinking...
I have noticed the gps works a little better at night but again that could just be me thinking it does.
I think the way the phone is laid out the GPS receiver is in the top portion so those are the screws that you would want to tighten up for results

When you say stock has horrible GPS issues, I'm not understanding. When I first got the phone, the GPS appeared to work flawlessly. This was while the phone was stock (straight from Best Buy). But now, after flashing to the Stock rom with odin 3, which should have put the phone in the same state as it came from best buy with, the GPS is noticeably horrible. Is there something that needs to be done after flashing with odin 3?

Nope its just the way Epic is.
You may have thought you were getting outstanding gps but you weren't ,just because it starts fast doesn't mean it gets the job done as should.
After a couple times using gps satellite loc goes down the tubs...like 1 loc 26-30 meter location base.
Hopefully Sammy & Sprint release patch fast.

Okay, thanks for the response.
My phones default settings were do NOT use cellular for gps, so it took it several minutes to get location.

IIRC (from and engadget/giz article) this is a new decision by google that it must be disabled. I wouldn't be surprised if ready-now techs enabled this which might be why some people don't see an issue. In the article they claim to have established that there is no issue with the epic after enabling this.
I've had no problems personally, but I'm coming from a Treo 800w (which actually gave an error and said you couldn't use the GPS if you disabled the "Use Wireless Networks"-like setting)... LORAN is better than that things GPS.
Note this setting is different from the privacy setting(s) of allowing position information access but does still have privacy implications (if your phone still knows (kind of) where it is all the time you can't simply hide your location by disabling the GPS).

I traded in my first Inspire for a replacement after the GPS started working less reliably after a couple weeks.
Now, a couple weeks into owning this one, I am (frustratingly) experiencing weird problems again.
Yesterday I tried using the GPS to navigate to a club in Baltimore... On the way down, I never got a solid gps lock in navigation. And, oddly enough, on the way back home, the lock was rock solid all the way.
I'm beginning to wonder if this is a defect with the Inspire itself, even though I haven't heard of many people having the same problems. The only "weird" thing I do with my GPS is use c:geo, a geocaching application... I'm wondering if this somehow tampers with GPS settings and starts to affect the gps tracking itself?
I do not use a case. I have not rooted or flashed the phone (nor did I on the previous model).. I really can't think about much else that I might be doing that coudl be affecting the gps.
Anyone have any ideas?

Go into your settings, location and then uncheck "use wireless networks". Try that and see how it works.

I will try this later, but I hesitate to say that'd be the problem, when GPS test was only pulling 3-4 satellites earlier today. (under normal conditions it will get twice that easily after a few seconds).
I feel like if this hardware problem was this widespread (that an entire generation of GPS' started going bad on the inspires) more people would be talking about it... And yet I see very little discussion of this happening. Are people just not using their GPS' that much? lol

Welp, rooted and flashed last night to Stock ROM Optimized, flashed LeeDroid 2.2.2. Kernel, applied this fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=997647, and I still couldn't get a strong lock on the way to work today.
This is baffling to me. I guess I just won't be using the Inspire's GPS a whole lot, which is a shame, because it's a perfect phone otherwise.

I have this exact same setup on my phone, same Rom, same kernel, and my gps didnt work. I reflashed the stock radio and now i get a lock in under 3 seconds. Give that a try.
Almost forgot I used THIS method to flash the radio, if that matters...
*BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THIS PROCESS YOU CAN BRICK YOUR PHONE WITH A CORRUPT RADIO.IMG*
To flash a radio using hboot with radio S-OFF you can simply take the zip file PD98IMG.zip from the hack kit (Thanks ATTN1) and remove the radio.img file from it using winrar or 7zip, and put a new radio.img from elsewhere in the zip named radio.img and using store (NO) compression. Make sure it is named exactly PD98IMG.zip and put it on the root of your sdcard. Reboot your phone into hboot and the new radio will prompt you to load. Press volume up on the phone and it will load automatically and ask you to press power to reboot.

Since your flashing the stock radio no need to take any radio.img file out or put a new one in, just simply flash the PD98IMG.zip in hboot

I ran alot of other roms, and noone of them were working for me, never got around to trying anything to fix it until i came across someone who reflashed the radio and it worked using the Stock Optomized rom in the thread, so figured id give it a try low and behold it worked for me as well.
Re-flashed the radio last night, don't think it made much of a difference.
Navigation to work today was spotty... Hanging at spots, and never getting a very solid lock (the circle around the little blue arrow would remain probably 20-30 meters large or more). When viewing GPS status I'll usually be anywhere from 4-8 satellites.
I dunno... maybe I'm expecting too much? It has been cloudy/rainy here the past few days, and maybe that's just really affecting it.
I just know that when I first got this phone (and the last one) I'd have strong locks very quickly that would stay strong for the majority of the trip... And it never seemed very weather dependant. *shrugs*
Be happy you get a GPS lock lol, i owned the Captivate for about 5 months and got 1 lock the entire time mo matter what fixes i tried, and the 1 lock was the day i got it.

Yeah, I guess inconsistently functional is better than nothing. I just don't get why I'm having these problems, when most Inspire owners seem to have perfect GPS still.
I might try trading in for ONE MORE model, just to see what happens... HTC's warranty should cover me for 9 months, right?

Your guarantee from AT&T itself is 30 days exchange for anything policy regardless. Trade it in for a different phone or another Inspire.
Just make sure you follow the back to stock flashing instructions in development thread before you take it in just in case they want to be assholes about you having alternate software running.
You should try GPS Status from the market.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2&feature=search_result
It downloads new AGPS info like once a day if you want it to and has quickened up my fixes a whole bunch. I would try D/L'ing the app, clearing the exsisting AGPS data through the app, and D/L'ing the data new.
Faster fix from the market works awesome to and always fixs my gps after a new rom install .

Do you have a case on your phone? If so, remove it and try again. Go outside with a clear view of the sky and wait till the GPS icon stops flashing.
Just took the case off fixes alot closer and more accurate to my location. Is there any case that i can keep on? (What case are you using?)
I use the speck candy shell. I don't use Gps much so it doesn't bother me that my case blocks some of the Gps signal.

Wow I just watched that first video and cringed. The reboot lock didnt surprise me, because thats normal usually, once it has a lock that info is remembered. But I would suggest that if you have to drop it like that to get it working, send it in, cause no one should have to put the phone thru that much abuse to get it to work. There has to be something broken (like soilder) or cracked that when you drop it it makes a connection again. EESH!
The odd thing is started doing that on its own, it was never dropped or anything. Fwiw, the first was after flashing your script and after 3 reboots.
Since it started working on the second video, it's worked every time like it should but I'm not sure why.

Hi All,
I am having an issue with GPS on my TF101. ive tried a few different Team EOS and CM roms but doesnt seem to have an effect. I am currently running EOS 81 (last EOS that still works with wiimote). I just get no satellites connected. Below are two logcat logs, one from K.A.T when i try to install the GPS quickfix i get an error, then the other is starting GPS Status.
Im starting to wonder if my GPS is actually broken and it's not a software issue.
Please help, even if it is just to say my GPS is properly shagged.
K.A.T log:

GPS Status log:

Edit:
I just tried EOS 113 and the K.A.T. GPS Fix installed successfully, however still no luck in GPS status. Logcat:

When you say K.A.T, do you mean KatKernel or the Kat-App ?
Kat-App has some GPS fixes in it
And not to sound arrogant but you are trying to get a fix outdoors under a clear sky ?

I mean the KAT-App, it has a GPS fix that wouldnt apply but i eventually go it that working. it didn't however fix my issues.
As for clear sky, apart from the crappy UK cloudy weather i'm all clear sitting outside on a bench (and within wifi reach, winning!).
Im starting to think its a hardware failure but not sure how to test.

Until I went back to stock and started over with root and flashing a new ROM, I had the same exact issues with GPS. I know it sounds strange; but, after a year plus of flashing, my system was laggy, the GPS would never work, and had intermittent sound issues. While that may be more than you are experiencing, it still may be an issue. So, after making a huge mistake of wiping everything off my system (no ROM at all) and having nearly having an expensive paper weight, I went back to ground zero. After the process of going back to an Asus stock ROM, rooting, and flashing Team EOS, Kat Kernel, and the Kat app, my Transformer was better than new. GPS works perfect, sound has no issues, no random reboots, and blazing fast.
So, it might be worth a try of starting entirely over... just a thought. :silly:
i've tried to re-flash the rom with the T699UVBMC5_T699TMBBMC5_T699UVBMC5_HOME.tar.md5 and although it seemed to working fine, (internet access etc.) i just can't dial with it anymore (while i can do that with another phone with the same sim) , add to that, the strange wifi connectivity issue i've been getting (as in hopping back and forth between roaming data and my access point) , the sluggish behavior i keep getting along with the extended battery reaching 45 deg Celsius (might be all the bloatware i couldn't remove), and now i can't even find another one (unlocked) in ebay.
just too much, the glide i have still works well sort of..

eventually i ended up upgrading use kies, that solved the issue with wi-fi (well sort of, i noticed that at least at home, i somtimes see BOTH wifi and 4g icon, like it can't decide which network to use) ,and still able to dial .
so now i have an operational phone, and back to square 2, meaning how can i root with a CWM that blocks all files with signature verification failure.
