I want 4.2.2 on my HOX but I'm really not understanding the concepts or whatever. I'm using the Hanson2000 gui but my CID is CWS___001 so then I am completely stuck in trying to get 11111111 or whatever. If there's another way then may I have a link? Cause the gui seems pretty explanatory and from what my friend told me about his HTC One, it took him 5min to root his phone.
Everything you need can be found in Redpoint's index thread.
You're new to this so you'll need to do a lot of research reading to get a proper hold on it. It'll probably take some time, and that's a good thing. It's a good idea to have a firm grasp on this stuff, it can be a bit quirky, and is easy to brick your phone if you don't know what you're doing.
As well as using the index thread, make sure you read the stickies in these forums, they're a wealth of much needed information.

yeah the best guide, but not solve all, i have blocked in some steps trying to su or flash new rom, so be really carefull before do anything to ur cell, if is not 100% necesary dont do it
coming from samsung phones to htc i will tell u read read and then read again as far as flashing roms... im still yet to completely figure out how to flash custom roms. but in due time it will be possible.. i have had to flash back to stock with RUU 2x now so read carefully
Another thing I was wondering, is that evita is my phone however mine is the 8gb not the XL. So I don't know if that'll affect my choices?

Boot into bootloader and check your device model. If it isn't evita, then you're in the wrong place.

Please if its been posted, tell me where and ill read it but a quick search revealed nothing. I just picked up my inspire and when I check for HTC update it shows there is one. Do I need to update before rooting? Also what changes are there as far as any major steps to flashing a Rom. Like if I want inspired ace can I just root, flash recovery and install Rom? Or does the bootloaders need to be flashed before flashing a gingerbread Rom? Sorry for the 838393 million questions but I'm a long time Samsung user lol,I know my way around rooting and flashing but I know HTC phones can be a little different

anyway, like he said do that .. as far as the update first or not:
you can flash whatever radio you want after you are done rooting; for me i rooted before the OTA, but for wifey we did the update first.. it doesn't matter, as the info will be destroyed during the root anyway.
you cannot OTA after root from what i gather, as i was never offered the update as i was rooted

Lol sorry for putting it like that. It's just sometimes someones question sounds like one that's been answered already, but they mean it in a different specific way. Here lately people have been a little rude about the whole "its been answered" but really I just have a hard time explaining exactly what I mean in text. I don't mind reading the stickies but sometimes it gets confusing if you are new to a device and don't know what stage the development is at lol. But thanks man,ill go read the stickies and if I have any problems ill just post back here lol. Appreciate the kind answer

Well don't take it to harshly most are just sarcastic. I mean I am just sarcastic.
What doesn't help is when you can't truly tell for sure if its a playful sarcasm or mean sarcasm. It sometimes is hard to tell considering we are talking to each other in text form. There have been some posts I've read, not by you, but others, that I couldnt particularly tell if they were being mean or just being a smart @ss just to mess with someone without offending. I just wanna say something to the ones who have meant there sarcasm in a mean way. My wife's cousin coined these 2 phrases, and I like using them a lot. "Can't we all just smoke a bong!" And, "Life's a ***** and then you die, f*** the world let's get high!" Lmao ;D

My favorite method is to apply the OTA and then use Gingerbreak. Chainfire is a fantastic developer and I used gingerbreak to install rom manager, flash CWM, and get your flashing on.
So, I'll admit that this is my first android phone and I'll admit that I didn't take a bunch of time to learn anything about what I needed to do before rooting and unlocking and flashing and everything else.
My problem is, I've unlocked my bootloader just fine and I rooted my phone just fine. The problem came when I found Android Revolution HD, from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562603, and wanted it. I didn't understand how to flash a new ROM or anything, but I went ahead and tried. I flashed several different boot images and recoveries so I don't even know where to begin. I flashed recovery-clockwork-5.8.4.0-endeavoru and tried to use the boot.img from the link I posted. Now I can't boot into recovery or restart my phone or even do a factory reset. I'm afraid that I messed everything up to the point where I need a new phone or something. I know I should have spent more time with this before diving into it, I was just excited. Is there anything I can do? I'm sorry if my problem is vague..

first of all, you flashed a ROM and recovery not meant for your phone. Our One X is a snapdragon based phone codenamed evita.
can you get to boot loader anymore?
if so relock it
then install the factory RUU that matches the version you had before, probably 1.85
then spend about 2 or 3 weeks reading the threads in OUR development section before you unlock the bootloader and flash anything else.

This mistake is very easy to make for someone who just bought a phone. I know that the credo at XDA is rtfm but the mods of the respective forums really ought to make the effort to make the distinction more obvious.
HTC and AT&T should have done that.
Seems pretty self explanatory to me.

Ahh, you are correct. Been on here so long haven't had to actually search for XDA on google.
One problem is when you search xda one XL in Google, the first link is actually the correct forum.... however right under that it lists:
HTC one x Q & A
HTC one x Themes and apps..
Etc etc...
↑↑↑↑↑↑—— if you click on those options it goes to the International threads.. once your in its very easy to go on not noticing your in international waters. Ive caught myself in wrong forums more than once when xda app acts up and I use a browser....

I know I made the same mistake in my first ROM flashing experience. And I even knew that ROMs for the International One X were incompatible! I just had no idea what "endeavoru" meant.
Since then, I've been keeping track of many HTC One X terms, which I highly recommend the original poster take a peek at.
HTC One XL Terminology Glossary
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1784459
Revolution HD seems to be a popular ROM for the International One X. Maybe they should explicitly note in the OP that it will likely brick an AT&T One X if flashed (if they don't already!)
This may also be a good thread to take a look at (if you don't feel bad enough already!)
[PSA] FOR THE LOVE OF GOD Please Stop Flashing International One X ROMS On This Phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1813839
Ok first off, I want to say that yes I have looked at countless threads explaining and asking the same thing, and none of them have been very useful. Maybe that's my fault, maybe it's just want I'm use to in the past. So I want to apologize to people who see my thread and go "Uuugh another retard". I don't want to be a retard or a jerk or anything of the above, but I just feel like nothing in the forums for this phone is as clear or well formulated as the phones I've dealt with in the past on XDA and I don't know why that is. Maybe I just haven't really learned anything from my past experiences
I have the HTC One X (duh) AT&T at software version 1.85, and I'd like to root it and do whatever else I need to do to get to the point of being able to load custom ROMs. My issue is that even after reading several threads, including the ones specifically about rooting version 1.85, I have no idea what to do. I've rooted phones in the past and never had this much trouble understanding instructions, and I think it's just because in the past the guides have always been extremely clear and explicitly stated what I needed, where I got it, how to load it, and how to use it. I've only done a few phones in the past, HTC Inspire, HTC Tilt 2, and an LG model that I've forgotten the name of.
So ok, here is this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709296 What exactly am I supposed to do here, because to be honest the instructions there are terrible. I read through probably fifteen pages of that thread, and felt like an idiot because no one else needed help even starting. So I started looking around, and I found some other posts asking for help, but everyone had seemed to actually have gotten past the initial point. For me, I can't even properly download the su file because it has no file type and Windows is all **** you buddy give it a file type (I just called it a zip file so I could at least have it downloaded.) I also looked at this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1672284 thread, and I understand what to do here but from my understanding I should be rooted first so that's a problem yes?
So could someone please assist me with a properly designated and clear set of instructions on how to get my phone to the phase where I can do more with it?
I fully understand if no one wishes to help me, or if this exact issue has really come up before. I've been looking for awhile and just haven't had any luck at all. Thank you for your help if you wish to help, and thank you even if you don't. Have a wonderful day.
I rooted mine with by "faking" an ota update.. that is you have to go to att update (go to settings and scroll all the way down) and from the console push some files to the phone via adb and then hit "update" in the phone.. I can't remember the thread though...
Hope that helps...

OP has linked the correct thread for rooting 1.85. The only working method, AFAIK.
I was completely new to the Android universe and also had problems getting started, but it helped when I figured out what ADB was.
http://developer.android.com/tools/help/adb.html
Basically, what you want to do (per the thread you linked to : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709296)
FIRST - install ADB!
Then :
- pull the SIM card (i didn't do this, but I'm just reiterating the insturctions on that page )
- do a factory reset
- do not connect to the internet after factory reset. Just go into settings and enable USB debugging, and plug the phone into your computer's USB port.
NOW, you can (via USB and the ADB tool which you've researched from my link above) run the commands from that thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709296). So open up a command prompt (start->run->cmd on a Windows machine) and just type everything you see in the instructions in that thread. Doesn't particularly matter if you don't knwo what each command does as long as you follow them faithfully
I'd be happy to walk you through it. Your on the right track though. It'll have to be later tonight though. Pm me and I can get with you after 9pm mountain standard.

After its downloaded, will Windows let you rename the file so there is no file extension? My Windows XP system will allow it, so if you're on Windows 7, I'm not sure what the fix is.
Also, the root guide assumes you have some knowledge of ADB. As it seems your are pretty lost, I'm assuming you don't. Gunny's guide has some ADB basics (although I've been told even this starter guide is missing a few basics):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1754018
I rooted back on 1.73, so a different method. But I'll try to help as much as I can.
Also, if you haven't already seen my index thread, its got all the resources posted in Development, in an organized list. Your issue right now doesn't seem to be finding the right threads. But you may find it useful once you get unstuck from the root process, at least:

So I'm reading up and doing my best to soak up the information. I found adb and have that downloaded, and I'm reading up on how it works. After looking at it and reading about it I realized that I've actually used it before and had no idea it was the same thing (that was on my older install of windows and when I was messing with my Inspire). I will hopefully later tonight be able to actually go through the process of trying to get all of this done to my phone. I will update once I'm home!

OK good luck. You could just read a bit, since I have spent hours making a guide or two, many others such as Ronnie and redpoint have spent hours putting guides and grouping all the info here and Devs have spent countless hours creating roms and discovering root methods. You can take some time to read the information and attempt to understand. If something is unclear or you don't quite understand then you can ask questions and I'm sure many people will be glad to help!

it's not that no one here is willing to help you out, you just need to know what you're doing before you do anything because of the huge risks you take in the unlocking process. if you're not willing to put in the time to read about everything before you ask questions and ask for hand-holding, then you should reconsider unlocking.
Here's some material to start with
Sticky #3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2232141 (pay attention to rule 1)
Sticky #4: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1754018
The unlocking thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2283760 - read this 5 times over before you actually do anything. and follow each instruction VERY carefully.
Once you're done unlocking: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2286587
Lastly, people are here to help each other, not babysit you through unlocking. If you ask nicely, someone may decide to help you through it. We've all put in hours into reading and researching and searching for answers. Work like this on a phone requires a base level of knowledge so you should strive to learn enough so that you're able to do what you need to in order to unlock your phone. Also, a post like this belongs in the Q&A subforum.
Good luck!

IDK i watched a video on how to it...but i need to install CWM cause i dont like TWRP
I have an AT&T HTC One X, with android 4.1.1. I had been scouring the internet for about three weeks now trying to figure out how to Unlock the bootloader. I finally figured it out. Then I did a perm root, applying superuserSU and i tried to flash CyenogenMod 10.0.0, and i got stuck in the CyenogenMod 10 loader. So i went back, and cleared the cache and data and dalvik. Then it loaded, and it started at the home scree. It didn't take me through a set up or anything. Then I tried to touch the screen, and it wasn't responsive. I tried re-applying it and what not, and then it just stopped working, the CWM Recovery kept saying it E: Cant Mount /sdcard, and it would have a long list of things it couldn't mount (which was litterally everything, and now I'm trying to just reset it to the stock HTC so i can try again. Can any one walk me through how to reset it?
And this is what happens when you don't read and start doing **** without knowing what you're doing.
So lazy.
If you do enough research in this forum to tell me why your touchscreen didn't work in cyanogenmod. I'll help you get your phone working again.

Not to be rude but OP i agree with exad. You didnt do any reading or research. You didnt ask questions first. But I'll get you to a working phone.
Just go to twrp again. Download viperXL. "Mount" in twrp and drag viperxl onto phone and flash that. You'll boot

Pft inflatedtitan is nicer than me
Avoid cwm it has low compatibility for the one xl. twrp 2.3.3.1 or below is recommended. (but that won't fix cm touchscreen issue)

Then what will? I know, I was overly eager and crap. I get that, but i posted here for help. Not criticism. I'm used to working with Samsung, and Apple. But if you can help, please just say it and don't direct me to another page.

Touchscreen issues are to do with HTC changing the drivers for newer 4.1.1 ROMs. What you want to do is downgrade the touchpanel firmware using h8rift's excellent guide. That downgraded touchpanel firmware will then work with all ROMs and also with newer TWRPs. I'm running 2.5.0.0 with no dramas here.

Also the reason you boot looped in the first place was due to htc's infamous "s-on" security feature. While s-on, you are required to fastboot any img file instead of flashing through recovery. Examples are splash screens, kernels, recovery imgs. If you also follow the super easy s-off thread, this will allow your phone to surpass any security checks, allowing you to simply flash anything you want.
So until you s-off, you have to flash the ROM then immediately boot into boot loader and fastboot flash the boot.img. then the rom will boot up just fine

No worries. If this stuff doesn't seem easy, it is because it isn't. There are no user manuals, support systems or helpdesks. All of us on here are just a community of like minded people. We encourage new members and especially those who are eager to read, learn and contribute.
Good luck with your phone, you will love what you can do with it!

I dissagree entirely. It is easy. If it seems hard, the only reason would be that one did not have the patience to do a little light reading beforehand. And when you flat out give responses to easy questions it only encourages ignorance. The touchscreen issue is posted in just about all aosp Rom op and in stickies and a search would have brought up at least 10 threads with the issue documented aswell.
Honestly it is easy, but there's a lot to learn and watch out for so it can easily be overwhelming. After you toy around with it and see what command does what, what to flash, how to flash it, it gets a lot easier. Just lurk here often and learn the terminology and you'll be successful. You may get called a dumbass but that's because a lot of users here are really sick of people asking the same questions over and over, or they're just blatent idiots.
PS. Use the latest Nightly of CM 10.1, the new 3.4 kernel is supposed to be really slick.
Also, flash the 2.3.3.0 version of TWRP, versions 2.4 and above seem to have problems.

Thanks guys. Like I said before. I'm new to the whole HTC world of modding. Its much different from The GS3 and iPhone 5. I have my phone. Wroking, and I'm running CyanogenMod 10.1 and I have S-Off. Thanks again.
PS. Dude. If you don't want to help, you sound like your so important, so go find some thing better to do if you can't be helpful.

I think he means me D:
I don't think people like it when I point out their lazyness and that they need to read more.
Searching before posting is encouraged here on xda. There are stickies with forum rules indicating so. It's not that I don't want to help people. I just don't want to answer the same questions over and over because lazy people can't take the time to search or check the faq.
No one here is getting paid to help. So do the entire xda community a favor and help yourself first. Then, if after searching and reading through some stickies you still don't know the answer. then post your question.
