To start, I've read that the tf300t is easy to brick. I can't use nvflash as I just got this device and pulled it out of the box with JB. So, I'm just wondering if anyone knows..... how bad must you mes sup to brick this thing beyond repair with no nvflash? Let's say I'm on the JB 4.2 bootloader and I flash an older rom that requires the 4.1 bootloader.... would that brick it to where fastboot wouldnt fix it? I'm just worried about bricking this damn thing as it isn't cheap. And one last question, what happenedd from the 4.1 bootloader to the 4.2 bootloader... did the partitions change or something? Or just encryption changes?
Sent from my Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk 2
if you flash a 4.1 rom on a 4.2 no brick will happen it just won't boot and about the changes: i think patitions have changed!

Thanks, so I should be safe, the most I would do wrong is flash 4.1 rom on my 4.2 bootloader. I'm not reflashing recovery unless it stopped working or something. I was asking because I was about to flash cm 10.0 but of course dont want a brick I cant repair. So how have other people accomplished bricks that cant be repaired?
Sent from my Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk 2
Flashing a wrong recovery is very common of causing bricks!

I read to much before flashing to make that mistake...lol... and yes indeed, flashing cm10.0 on my 4.2 bl results in no boot....
Sent from my Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk 2
that is not normal, there was a problem with the bl 4.1, but not with 4.2..
You tried it with full wipe?

Yep, I never flash without full wipe, including a wipe of the system partition... maybe I didnt give it long enough, I was quick to assume it wasnt going to boot. I will try again since you say it isnt normal. I would do cm10.1 but the whole nav and status bar being at the top bugs me, it looks better and is more convenient at the bottom with this tablet IMO.....I will report back tonight on what it does when I try again, Ill give it more time to get past the first screen than i did before....
Sent from my Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk 2
ok, then i am looking for your Feedback.
I also find the nav and the bottom better, thats the reason why i use cromi Custom Rom. Maybe you should give it a try
Gesendet von meinem ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T mit Tapatalk 2
cromi was my first custom rom to flash, i like it and everything but aosp/cm roms feel snappier
Sent from my Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk 2
well, with the latest 4.2 BL, cm10.0 does not boot, tried a couple more times with full wipes including system partition..... it sits on the bootup screen and doesn't go any further
quick question off the original topic... i saw mentions of downgrading to the 4.1 BL in another thread.... so you can downgrae from 4.2 to 4.1 BL but cant go any further below, like to an ICS BL?

that depends.
if you only want to root it but keep stock firmware and recovery, you should do it now before updating. as long as you are on version .17 you can use sparky root to root, OTA root keeper to backup root, update, use OTA root keeper to restore Root and enjoy.
if you want to Flash ROM's and stuff, you can do whatever you like. you will have to unlock the bootloader and as far as i can tell, that is supposed to work on any software version as long as it is ICS. unlock, flash recovery, flash your ROM of choice.

So if I want to flash stuff it won't matter? Most ROMs will come rooted, so then do the update?

You can update and still root on the latest firmware. I got mine and updated out of the box and was able to root it easily. I don't know why someone is saying you need to be on .17

Even if you update to .30, you could always root it via Debugfs method.

Not that i know of mate but if you just want root and tostay on stock then your sorted if you want to try some custom roms then you need to unlock the bootloader anyway mate

I was thinking like you that you could put the inner zip on a memory card and it would pick it up that way but i haven't heard success using that method. Couldn't hurt to just try it. Won't break anything.

What exactly did you do? Try this
Download desire firmware from Asus website extract that archive into the root of your micro sd card. Insert sdcard into pad and wait a bit, if you don't get an update notification restart tablet with card still inside and wait for notification.
If that doesn't work got to settings about tablet and manually check for for ware update every hour until you get it.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk 2
dont forget the file you get from asus needs to extracted once then put that on the root of your memory mate
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk 2
And if it doesn't work on your external sdcard try putting it in internal storage which is in /sdcard

many thanks! that did the trick for me
just got this TF300TG pad yesterday and my firmware is still dated April. I checked pad settings but said it's the latest. So I went to Asus website to see for any update and they have for 20-July 9.4.4.40 zip file
But then they didn't tell how to manually install it so I searched here instead and voila, I got the answer
Not thinking of unlocking this pad (at the moment) so official releases instead for the mean time
So internal and wait for it in android?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
yep just extract it once then move the new zip file to the root of device and reboot, the wait and in the notificatons it should pop up saying it has found an update, if that dont work put it on the root of the micro sd card
I did all that except the wait part lol

I had it extracted on my internal memory( /sdcard ). Shutdown, and on power-up it detected the update, as will be shown on the notification bar, I just then hit the message to update. Camera firmware has been upgraded as well.

At present, if you are on jb and want root, you must unlock. There's a guide in the general section. Follow step 3 to get root, and recovery as a bonus.

Absolutely. I used twrp to flash it just because it worked better for me, but cwm will flash it too. Flash it, download supersu from the store, update the such binary automatically with it, and off you go with root.

Some people lost root after the update, especially those who did a factory wipe of data afterward, like me. This guide helps those with unlocked bootloader. At this time, you cannot root jb with a locked bootloader if you lost it during the upgrade.
