[Q] Xoom and SDXC 64GB - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks,
I've got a rooted Xoom (CM10.1) and also a rooted MyTouch 3G Slide (CM7). Recently, I picked up a generic SDXC 64GB card, cheap.
It works fine in my Windows 7 laptop, which has a cardreader. Formatted exfat, all the space shows up. Slower than I would have thought but okay.
Of course, I wanted to be able to use the card in my Xoom if possible. I browsed around, found people who were using such a card in the Xoom, people who had trouble and then success, people who were tearing their hair out.
I've tried all the formatting tricks I could find and a few others besides.
I currently have the card formatted as FAT32. It reads and writes on my laptop just fine. It reads and writes on my PHONE just fine (and when I got that, I figured "yessssss" I'm good ...)
But I was not. The Xoom still says the card is blank or has an unsupported file system.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jeff

Leader Impression i10-50 tablet micro sd card "damaged"

I've looked everywhere but have not seen anyone with this particular tablet have this issue yet. I recently bought a 32gb PNY micro sd card, when I put it in the tablet says "sd card damaged", it says that I can format it, but when I click on the option nothing happens. I've tried formating the card in windows with multiple programs as well as the normal windows format, same problem... does anyone have any solutions, any help will be much appreciated
Update: it says it supports up to a 32gb card on the box, but i've been told that it only supports up to 16gb right now, Hopefully they will patch this tablet.

[Q] 64gb card only shows as 32gb, can anyone help?

Hi, I have now gone through 2 cards, the first one thinking it was broke so i sent it back, and my unit is doing the exact same with my new card.
When i got my first card which was a sandisk ultra 64gb sdxc card, i thought it was originaly a bad card as my unit wouldn't see it, plus when i put it into my laptop and formatted it, it only showed as 32gb.
i exchanged that card for basically the same one, but it said made for android on it.
I put that straight into my unit when i opened it and that said the same thing on my unit, can now safely remove card, and when i went to settings > storage, there was no sign of a card, it just said mount card, and if i did this, it would say preparing card then a little after say i can safely remove it again and still show nothing.
i have now put this card back on my laptop and formatted it as fat32 (as i thought this one was going to be already seems it says its made for android devices), and again, it shows on my laptop as only 32gb and not 64gb, the file system is fat32 as well.
i have seen screen shots of people using this card in a 10.1 and their storage does show as 64gb.
i have tried using hp format utility and guiformat to format as fat32 (both show on unit but only as 32gb), i have tried using windows 7 formatter to format as exfat (which wont show in my unit), i have also tried sdformatter 3.1 which also doesn't seem to get my 64gb to show.
can anyone help, i surely couldn;t have got 2 bad cards?

Why are you cross-posting James?
lol i wasn't sure how fast i would get an answer in the other forum so i posted to both
thank you very much for your help though
What was the solution?
Edit:found the other thread
well the solution for me was to get a 32gb card as i just couldn't get a 64gb to work, i have not had the latest update either to test out a 64gb card.
Easius partition manager to format 64gb card FAT32... This will allow you to use the sd card until you get the update, it just means you're restricted to 4gb files and under....

I tried the H2TestW... when it opes it also only says 29 GB.
But when it was first seen by me it showed 64 GB with exFat format. Only upon using programs such as guiformat... to format it to FAT 32 it changed to the lower value.
Try formatting ntfs
Does the Note support 64GB cards? The Samsung Uk site states "up to 32GB". If anyone should manage to get it to show full 64GB, please share as I'm wanting to buy a larger card.
64 GB Card on Note 10.1
I am running a Sandisk 64GB SDcard on my Note 10.1 and it works fine.
I did install it...unmount it, format it and rremounted it.
It is a Wifi GT-N013 and the card worked under both ICS and JB.
Hope it helps
I have a 64gb sd in my 8010 reads it just fine. Strange...

[Q] Micro SD card issues (Galaxy ace)

Hey folks,
I've had a samsung galaxy ace for around a year now, and there's been no problems at all. However, I recently lost my ipod, and so thought I'd use my phone for music while I save up for a new pod. I bought a 16GB memory card, which worked perfectly initially, but as soon as I got to around 3GB of data on it, it all started failing. I would copy files onto it, but as soon as I took the memory card out of my computer and put it back in again, they'd be gone (or presumably moved over to the LOST.dir folder, since this was getting larger and larger). I thought it might just be the card, so I bought another 16GB one, but the exact same thing has started happening again. Any idea what this is? Is it just two faulty sd cards in a row? I've tried formatting both of them, but that doesn't seem to do anything.
Any help/advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark.
Correct format
It seems like a format incompatibility problem.
Try to format it in all formats you can, maybe your phone doesn't support NTFS. Usually FAT32 is the most compatible.
What capacity was your last card?

Micro SD card problems

I believe my micro sd card is trashed but I was looking for suggestions on a way to recover it if possible. It is a 64gb Sandisk Ultra Micro sd. I first noticed it as a problem while running CromiX 5.4 rom2sd, every few weeks it would lock up eventually needing to restore a nandroid or totally reflashing. I suspected the card was the problem and have reverted to running internally without any problems for months. I have deleted the partition and recreated multiple times with GParted. Gparted can see the complete card but when I look at it in a windows environment it only sees 27gb. The options to delete volume in the windows environment, disk management tool, are grayed out and formatting accomplishes nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions before I toss it out?

sounds weird, I know, but having had all sorts of weird experiences with SD cards and Micro SD cards sanDisk cards included, just wondered, how are you connecting it to your PC?
The reason I ask is that on a fairly new machine running Win7.1 I have found that if i insert the microSD into a USB adaptor it cannot read it or at best can only format to 32gig, but if the card is put into the holder that came with it my machine can see it and format it to its full size
Agreed, I also have a sandisk ultra 64gb microsd card and in order to format it correctly you have to use adapter/card reader that is sdxc compatible. It usually says on the card reader what it is compatible with. If you dont your sdxc card will show as having less storage space

How to make microSD card writable for the Shield

If you are technologically adept, feel free to read only the bold.
1. Remove your card from the tablet and plug it into your computer, using any kind of adapter.
2. On a PC, you can find the microSD card by choosing Computer from the Start menu, or by opening Explorer on Windows 8 (and then looking for Computer to the left).
3. Copy all the files and folders you want to save off the SD card. To be safe, you might want to copy everything and run a storage scanner like the free WinDirStat on your folders before you delete everything.
4. Right-click on the microSD card and click Format. Set the Type to NTFS and the allocation size to Default. Click Format again.
5. Pop the microSD card back into your tablet. It should bloody work.

It should bloody work, but for some of us it doesn't! I have a Team 64gb class 10 card, and I simply can't use it on my Shield. The Shield recognizes that there is a card inside, but I can't actually do anything with it. It works fine on my laptop and on my Nokia 520 backup phone. Have tried other formats, FAT32, exFAT, nothing works on the Shield, everything works everywhere else. My other Sandisk 32gb class 10 card works just fine on the Shield.

So let me get this straight, the card is not only not writable, but it's not readable either?
While the size of the card is within the scope of these instructions (I used a 64GB Samsung), the behavior it's been previously exhibiting is not.
Have you successfully used it in other devices? Have you tried different cluster sizes?
The card itself is perfectly fine on other devices. I've used it in my Note 3, Nokia 520, and its recognizable in all formats on my laptop card reader. The Shield is only one with an issue. It sees that there is a card inside, but i can't do anything with it. I've tried FAT32, exFAT, NTFS, nothing works. But like i said, the 32gb card is recognized right away.

Just picked up my sheild 16gig today and stupid me updated straight to lollipop 5.0.1 then inserted. My 64gig samsung hc class card in. The sheild recognized it immediatly but when i tried to download straight to it got an error it wont let me take anything off or add to it and i know its fine cause my pc and note 3 both used it flawlessly i want to root but it seems really tricky my note 3 has been rooted since i got it but dropping 300 on this bad boy im pretty disappointed im having this problem already 156 sorry bro
Try downloading and applying "SDfix" from the Play store. It worked for me
