first of all wrong section mate
you should open this thread in Q&A section
nevermind
you have 2 options:
1)use juopunutbear method to S-OFF the device and then root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661631
2)use this guide to unlock the bootloader via htcdev site
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861(you will remain on S-ON)
the difference between S-ON and SOFF is:
with S-OFF you are completely unlocked which means you can also flash firmwares, radio, rils
with S-ON you are limited to flash only roms and kernels

You need S-OFF if you want to change the hboot/bootloader or the radio. SInce you have the latest versions of both it is not necessary at this moment. In you need to S-OFF by any reason it is possible via downgrading to older version that is supported by Revolutionary.
If you unlock the bootloader with HTCDev.com you will remain S-ON but will have the ability to flash custom Recovery, Kernel or ROMs and rooting as well. So basically you have the freedom to change your system according to your preferences
Hi thanks for the reply,
so it`s not neccessary to S-off to be able to root the phone? I will do some more reading before I take the plunge as I do not want to brick my new phone
Cheers Nexus04

Exactly.
Basically you will need to unlock your hboot at htcdev.com, then flash a custom recovery then
1) flash Superuser to have root or
2) flash a custom ROM, they are all prerooted

What about relocking hboot?
Thanks for your input into this thread by the way, I was led to believe according to the guide section that you must be s-off (therefore downgrade from 2.00.0002) in order to flash custom roms.

AFAK re-locking the bootloader is necessary only when you want to run a RUU (to restore the Stock configuration if needed)

Just in case I was to send my device for a warranty fix or such!
Unlocking the bootloader at htcdev will void your warranty.
I am patiently waiting for May 2012 for my warranty to be over and then I will unlock my boot loader..
As said the htcdev unlock void your warranty, it will send the info of your phone to HTC.
You can do the HBOOT downgrade http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399331 and use Revolutionary to get S-OFF and if you need the warranty you can use eng hboot and flash a new RUU to get back to stock and S-ON.

READ.........try looking in the INDEX
There is a section that will assist, entitled "UNLOCK your Bootloader by HTCDev (S-ON - Security On) (HBOOT>2.0)" you have two options 1) downgrade you hboot & unlock using revolutionary, which isn't an easy thing to do, but is better and easier in the long run.
Or 2) use htc dev to unlock
all the options and guides are there for you to read.....I suggest that you spend at least one evening reading and comprehending before you progress further.
Go for the first method, downgrade you Hboot and then unlock bootloader and get S-OFF using revolutionary, it is by far the best way in the long run. Just remember, if you've unlocked the bootloader using the HTC-dev you need to lock it again.

Search the development forum for a guide to S-OFF, ROOT, SUPER CID.
You basically need to install a custom recovery and then install superuser. (Search the thread for superuser 3.0.7)
There is now also aparrently a way to unlock 1.27 hboot completely! (I haven't tested it personally but others have reported success!).
Hope this helps

SOFF using auggie2k SOFF guide (search in general section for the guide)

I haven't been tracking that thread, but I speculated that it might work based on someone's post in a different section. Has someone actually confirmed that this does work?
Basically, run an RUU to go back to stock, S-ON again, and then follow the juopunutbear method without htcdev to S-OFF again. A side effect may be a "locked" hboot again.

The locked thing is not a side effect basically the soff process wipes the flags of unlock and relock
Even if you got juopunutBear hboot.. Once you flash a RUU you will have locked bootloader only not relocked/unlocked
And it's confirmed long back.. That's how the warranty is saved too.. As the soff process don't leave any visual traces of you doing unlock via htc-dev
