Hi. I just read a few guides since I don't know how this phone works that well, but as far as I am concerned, you would have to first install a rom or kernel with CWM 5 or higher, not 6. So there are ROMS on gingerbreaed that have this... But just to be safe, i would install cm7.... Look at this http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-T959V/Installing_a_ROM
Your best bet is to use a 1click like eollie's 1 click with a modded kernel that has cwm built in, first link in the 2nd post here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358498
Once you flash that, you will have cwm, which you can then use to flash any variation of ICS. You might need to be on ICS then go to JB, depends on the ROM but most will let you go straight from the cwm that the above link to the new ROM.
If you don't need GPS, don't mind small bugs, etc, then there are several JB's out there.
If you want GPS, good battery life, stability, etc, then try ultragen and the kernel linked in my sig.
Just flash Fluidification's CM10.1 Aries. I flashed it from 2.3.6 stock with CWM 5.0 2 8 and it automatically updated me to 6.0.2.8 at the beginning of the flashing process. Hope i helped!

CWM right sir? Thankyou!
Sent from my GT-I9003 using Tapatalk
In CWM, yes.
Once you've booted in CWM you have a few menu options. One of them is wipe, where you'll be able to wipe data (applications and user data, = factory reset), cache and dalvik cache. Wipe all three, install MIUI ROM.

I have been out of the android game for a while and have only just got the nexus s 2 days ago but am now running ICS. Could someone explain why the OP would need to root his phone? As I remember you unlock the bootloader and flash CWM without the need to root.
Yes you do not have to root, but it wouldn't hurt. Optional.

Hi, I wouldn't recommend running 1.54GHz on a daily basis, for most Nexus S's it's just not stable.
But lucky for you, KelLMSKing's MIUI and Brainmasters MIUI are both nice and smooth at 1GHz, and you can allways go to 1.2 or 1.3.
Good luck mate.. ;-)
PS. Most custom roms come with superuser preinstalled. But check the rom description.

I cant find any kernels with 1.3 sir
Sent from my GT-I9003 using Tapatalk
There is a Trinity 1.3 ghz kernel.
There is no need to root first. It actually makes no sense at all unless you want to make a backup of your rooted stock rom. Otherwise you don't root the rom just to wipe and flash a pre rooted rom in the next step.
Hello,
I have searched the Razr HD threads with no avail. I have been running CM 10.1, 4.2.2 and would like to return to a 4.1.2 ROM(Nexesque deodexed/zipaligned 9.16.6 (4.1.2) base). 4.2.2 is still a bit buggy for my taste, specifically the camera issues. As I understand, I need to return to the stock kernel prior to flashing a 4.1... ROM via a boot.img file?
Does anyone have the link to the stock Kernel to flash? Also, can I flash this in CWM Recovery? If not, a link to instructions would be great.
This is relatively new to me as ROMs generally have the Kernels built in and flash automatically when installing in Recovery. At least thats how it was with my old HTC INC.
Thanks for your help and assistance.

it was ok for me
I restored to my stock back up, re-wiped, and re-flashed. All is well.

Hi, I'm new to this device as a friend gave it to me. I've read a lot about flashing, stock and custom roms but I can't see a stable custom rom. As far as I've understood ICS and up roms are still not stable enough, so I may go for a GB rom but don't know what.
BTW if I go to a stock rom is there a way to maintain CWM or would I have to flash it again after flashing stock?
Best & stable Gingerbread rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1440284
Follow the instructions carefully.
Good luck!

You read a lot and you can't see a stable custom ics/jb ROM??? My advice: Stay at GB... Stock rom is the best for you.

Probably this is a best solution for this moment I'm using this rom. Easy to install and easy to use. I'ts smooth quick and solid on my SG I9003 SCL
Thanks for your recommendations but any of that roms have worked 'cause I'm having this problem. I've installed Bam's Custom Kernel and 4ext convertor script and I'm able to get /data working, so then I flash any of that custom roms but I'm stuck again on bootloops.
this one also very good
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024076
GB ROM: The Frankenstein Mod is very good(no bugs and a lot of bloatware removed). I used it for many months and then switched to Alpha 5.
Jelly Bean: Dhiru's Alpha 5
The best of all roms for the SL cleaner faster and 4.2.2!!

Try the new 4.2.2 ROM from master Dirhu with Kernel 3.0
It has some few bugs at the moment but it is working very very smoothly (better than a sock one). My phone is like a new one with this ROM.
It comes with Cyanogenmod 10.1

Try the new value pack DDMF1 it's smoother than DDLF2 whith better battery backup.....

LoLaTiOn already made a supersmooooth rom based on this rom....

Stock Rom Suits U The Best Here it Is DDMF1 Stock Firmware
You might wonder why even after doing the steps and can't get you ROM working smoothly..??
So here's a best solution for it...
1-main procedeur
Whenever you are using or want to use a custom rom of ICS or JB make sureyou flash the stock ICS and JB to your cell by sp tool because in sp tool all files are wiped and reflashed cleanly.
Since CWM cannot delete some core files...
So sp flash it....
2-easy
After flashing you device now flash the custom rom according to your need and do's(like which stock rom you hve to get a custom rom)
Mean if u hve flashed stock JB flash custom JB rom by the developers......and vice versa for ICS...
I hve been using this method for all time and it has always helped me.
Tgis procedeur is only for those who keeps a cuatom rom for a long duration.
Those who can try it but wil consume your time

Hello i recently fix my phone ( CYNUS T2) running 4.1.1 ..
i want to downgrade to ICS because dual sim doesnt work well and bluetooth has few problem
can anyone explain me the right way?? via odin or flashtool or cwm..
You can't downgrade just like that you have to start from scratch, I.e format everything, go back to stock, use kernel cleaning script for your phone, then flash ics rom of your choice

I think you should move to 4.2.1,
All 4.2.1 rom are awesome, and getting developed day by day.. And not buggy or lagging at all.
M using SLT-NEXUS-TYHPOON and highly satisfied with it. Its far better than 4.1
