[Q] Reaper 4.0 - Application not responding / Quit to homescreen - HTC Desire S

Hello XDA
I've recently rooted my phone and flashed the Reaper 4.0 rom (w. full wipe), which is quite a performance boost coming from the factory default w. sense. Reaper is blazing fast to be frank!
Problem is that I've regularly been experiencing an "Application not responding" error or (more frequently) apps just quitting to the homescreen. Seems to be happening with many different apps periodically in bulk and have been happening ever since I first booted up with reaper. Sometimes the app freezes for a few seconds, where after it quits to the homescreen (no error message), but mostly it just instantly quits when I touch a button/link. During some sessions the apps run fine for long periods of time, during other they quit to the homescreen several times every minute. The rom itself seems to be very stable and I've never experienced anything like it with the default HTC rom.
Does anyone have any ideas about what's going on here? Anything I could/should adjust in the reaper control? Or should I just try a different rom? Am very satisfied with the speed, so I'd rather stay with reaper if its possible to eliminate the problem.

[Q] HTC Sense keeps shutting down on 2.3.4

I recently upgraded to Android 2.3.4 and have the stock ROM. Now when I'm e.g listening with Spotify and surfing on the web after I press the home button, the HTC splash screen will appear and the home screen starts to load. On 2.3.3 I never had this to happen, but now it seems to occur even on light use. What keeps shutting down Sense?
Happens to me from time to time and im still on 2.3.3. I also want to know what causes these random sense reboot
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA Premium App
happens to me on 2.3.3 only when i exit the browser after heavy browsing...and must add its very irritating.
I had this problem when using Camera. Had to pull-out battery. After few times the problem disappeared. Since using custom ROMs, never had this problem again.
Hello all,
I upgraded my sensation to official 2.3.4 and I'm experiencing the same issue. After going into apps, it could be browser / peep / third apps and even sms app, htc sense keeps rebooting with a disgraced white screen ...
I had also this kind of issue with 2.3.3 but it wasn't so frequently, i really hope HTC will fix that soon cause it's really embarassing.

Hello everyone,
I had this problem very often when I was using stock HTC Sense, but since I started using other ROMs the problem has completely disappeared. I remeber this being very annoying, and sometimes the HTC screen would come up everytime I went back to home! This happened more often when I had the Friend Stream Lockscreen applied.
Now, I'm not entirely sure of what I am saying, but I am just trying to help, if anyone knows better please confirm/correct what I am saying:
This white screen is due to the HTC Sense launcher rebooting. I believe this is because the phone runs out of RAM, and thus shuts down applications.
What I found helpful to kinda fix the problem:
Download the app "Android System Info" from the Play Store. Once downloaded, open it, and go to the "Tasks" tab. Press menu and sort by memory usage. Now you see all your processes (no need for root) sorted by memory usage. You can notice that HTC Sense is often on the top, using up most of the RAM.
Now you problably think: "Why doesn't my phone exclude HTC Sense from the apps it can kill to free memory?". Well I think this happens when another app uses even more RAM than HTC Sense, and the phone then believes the other application is more important, and shuts HTC Sense down, and it then needs to reboot. I noticed that when I had applied the Friend Stream Lockscreen, it was often using about the same amount of RAM as HTC sense, and when it actually used more, and the phone ran out of RAM (for example during heavy browsing), HTC Sense was shut down.
So the way to fix this is to find out which process uses most of the RAM when it shouldn't (not the process "android system" for example), using Android System Info. Either it is, as for my case, one of the cool features of HTC Sense, then you should disable it or it is another application, then you should either uninstall it, which you probably won't because it is an important application, in which case you would have to limit its use.
At least you know what application is causing the problem, but look rather at different times on your phone, to see which process CONSTANTLY uses a lot of RAM. If you are browsing, it is normal that your browser uses up a lot of RAM for example.
This is not a perfect fix, I still experienced Sense reboots after doing that (disabling HTC Friendstream Lockscreen for me), but less often, and this helps without having to root your phone or change ROM.
This is very annoying, and HTC should have fixed this by now, or should had put more RAM in the Sensation to cover that high usage, but I believe they fixed it with Sense 4.0 (going on the new HTC One series), which we won't have for a long time, by making HTC Sense use less RAM.
Please press the "Thank" button if I helped.

[Q] Screen lags.

Hi, I have problems with my HTC Senastion screen:
from time to time it freezes and nothing can be done about that. I can still use "normal buttons", but nothing more. After some time it just "unfreezes" and everything is like normal.
Can this be due to overclocked GPU?
Also, I have discovered that it appears randomly after reboots: sometimes after reboot I experience this issue, sometimes not.
EDIT: Hmm, as I see, only some parts of UI are lagging. For example status bar is working ok (no always but still). Moreover, the buttons like: home, menu also are not responding.
Which launcher do you use?
Nova luncher.
Never happened to me,
your problem seems to be an Hardware issue..
you can try to restore your sensation with the Stock RUU and send it back to htc
I had this problem using an overclocked kernel. Reverting back to the stock 3.32.401.5 kernel fixed the random freezing and reboots.
I'm now using SebastianFM's 1.4.1 overclocked kernel and things have been fine. No random reboots or freezing/lag.

Having random freezes/reboots

For the week or so, I've had numerous occasions when the phone stops responding and then either reboots on its own, or I have to pull and re-insert the battery to make is work. Sometimes, the phone start working but HTC Sense restarts.
Also, I've noticed that this only happens when I press the home button while on a resource heavy application, such as a game or firefox. However, most of the time these applications close without a hitch.
I'm pretty sure it's not a ROM related issue because I updated to the latest version of Elegancia Blitz when it was first made available (August 11th) and didn't have any issues until recently.
Can someone tell me the possible cause and solution for this?

I experienced similar issue since updated my Sensation to firm 3.33 and rom Android revolution HD . If I use the phone with some games or web browser it overheats and touch screen fail. I have to put it standby to restore touch function. I have downgraded it to 3.32 and installed Blitz rom but issue don't dissapear so I supose is not a Rom issue as you say. I think is a problem with firm 3.33 but I don't know how to solve it.

Viper XL 3.1 and Navigation

Having an issue with Google Navigation (maps is ok), but whenever it goes 3D mode it crashes shortly after :|
Currently on HBoot 2.14
Have noticed E/Sensors (973): MLUpdateData error (code 31) a couple of times throughout the logcat, is this G-Sensor related?
Phone slowing down after Viper 3.1
Did anyone who installed Viper 3.1 experience phone slowing down after the install? There is a lag when the notification bar is pulled down or switching between screens.
Being a noob, this is what I did -
1.) fastboot flash boot boot.img
2.) wiped cache and dlvik cache
3.) flashed viper3.1.zip
4.) I haven't tinkered around with the kernel. It should be the stock.
In effort of speeding up the device, I went to Venom Tweaks --> CPU and switched to "Performance". Not sure if that was the right thing to do.
Reading the Forums, everyone seems to have buttery smooth experience, not me
Any help is appreciated.

This is something I've noticed from Jelly Bean in general ( Cyanagenmod, AOKP, and Sense 4.5 ). Devs keep saying they'll address it before it eventually gets swept under the rug. Between that and signal issues I was having I've switched back to running stock (I'd rather have a working phone with a little bloat and a few less features). If you have to have Google Navigation you may want to do the same. Or maybe someone could set up a bounty to have devs actually do something about it (if there is something that can be done). Or you can go back to sense 4.0 for the time being. Sorry to sound like a negative Nancy.

The lag when pulling down notification is because you have quick toggles enabled. Disable them and it will be much faster.

On the topic of the Notification bar, I have the Horizontal Quick Settings, has VQS been ported over as well or only HQS at this time? ViperXL 3.1.0
Cheers.
Waze is what I always use on JB roms, works like a champ. Its sweet, one of the coolest apps in the market. So another one who recommends waze

[Q] Phone getting stuck and crashing while installing apps, why?

So I've been having tons of fun with my Sensation ever since I got it, and I installed AOKP 4.2.2 + Sultan Kernel r24.5, with all recommended settings aside from cpu speed which is at Sensation XE speed and undervolting is at recommended levels.
However, I've been getting this issue of everytime I'm installing apps, the phone hangs and just gets stuck until I take out the battery and turn it on again. This ONLY happens when installling apps, and hasn't happened with ANYTHING else. Any ideas? Kinda in a rut.
