[Q] Recmod and Reversmode not working - General Questions and Answers

I am using a couple of really old programs called recmod and reversmod and I am having trouble getting them to work. When I use the recmod tool, I do get a .dll file out of it, but the file is always 1kb and if I open a bunch of them in hex edit, they are nearly identical and each mentions that "this file cannot be run in DOS mode". Other than that, the rest of the file is almost entirely zeroes, so the code is null. Also the reversmode crashes when I try to use it on the .dll files I created, most likely because the files are busted.
In this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1251237 OndraSter mentions something about recmod/reversmode using type 5 and 7 instead of just type 3. I don't really know what to make of this and Google leads me only to things that don't pertain to recmod at all.
Does anyone know how to make recmod work nowadays? Thanks in advance for any help provided!

Yeah, that's the thread that first got me into the recmod tool. Great thread, just out of date. /:
Thanks for the reply though.

This may help
This may help someone help me a little. When I use recmod through the command line, I get an error saying "Error! ProcessCase0: bit 5 is zero!"
and this is the .dll file that I get out of it:
View attachment a.zip
I renamed the file name to a so it would be shorter to type because I was trying a lot of different command prompt things. It was originally k.senscmdd.dll, not that it really matters. All of the modules I tried came out almost exactly like this.

Is there a tutorial for Core Kitchen?

please don't answer with "try using search"
i tried searching and was unsuccessful. maybe i don't phrase my searches good enough or maybe there isn't anything to found. Either way, i didn't find anything. anichillus' site is down and i need to figure some things out.
can someone please point me in the direction of a tutorial.
if not, can someone please tell me how to figure out where to put all of the dll's and stuff that is in the "missing" folder?
its in the kitchen's help folder
Anichillus siad he will work on more in the future
and for the dll and other missing files, find them, then cut and paste them into the directory that they are said to be missing from
The only one I know for the whole kitchen is under C:\Core\Help. You're probably best to ask achillies (sorry if I spelled wrong) directly, but if you look up the specific component/process that is generating the "offending" pieces, you might be able to find more info on why it thinks it's bad, and how to resolve it. Sorry I can't be more help.
I'm also a noob and I'm trying to follow that tutorial. I have a base nk.nbf in the source folder and I click on dumprom and I see a window flash up and then it's gone. I don't see anything in the dump folder. Am I missing something?

does the dumprom make a window popup that asks if this [Core\Extract\Source] is where your nk.nbf file is?
that should happen first before you can dump it
Download Here

It will place a folder on your C drive inside the folder open the help file

When creating packages with Package tool it creates the following folders:
SYS
OEM
Missing <-- Thats what you are looking for.
I suggest that if this is your 1st attempt and you are building based on a custom rom, use HyperCore Kitchen. Its very easy to use and does the extraction much quicker and easier than doing it by hand. Once you have the hang of it then just move your stuff to another kitchen. Nice part about HyperCore you can dump just about any rom if you set it for that specific device. Just a note: some cookers protect their roms and you end up with almost everything in Missing. You can dump WizFlo from 6.1.1.3 upwards easily
When you have run the PkgTool - Build Packages option, don't mistaken the Missing Manifests for the same thing as Missing Files or Missing Packages. The missing "dsm" manifest files the Pkg Tool refers to are contained in the XIP files (which you will be doing next, i.e., extract XIP). So, you can just ignore the Missing Manifest message and continue on, however be aware that you must use compatible XIP that contains these "missing" dsm manifest files when you go to re-build your rom.
If there are indeed missing packages or missing files, it will tell you exactly what they are and where (what folder) they are supposed to go into. These missing packages/files will be in the dump folder along side the OEM and SYS folders after you run the Build Packages option in the PkgTool app.
This took me a while to realize as it was not explained (or at least I did not see it anywhere) in the various forums/threads on rom building.
If I am wrong on any of this someone please correct me as I too am relatively newbie to this and still learning.
Good Luck!

Can someone please sign this .exe for me?

i have looked and tried for the last 2 hours to sign this stupid exe and cannot do so. i took parts from the fuze .exe and moved it into the 1.1 exe. this works on my rom where other versions gave a c++ error also the versions that did not give this error had horrid graphics. so if i can get this signed i think i may have solved a problem. i just need to be able to install via cab and it needs to be signed to do so. the file works perfectly if you just copy it to your phone manually and run it. thanks in advance
If you search for "File Editor Suite", you will find a short thread that has a zip-file with reshacker, a signer (msigner?), an unsigner, and one other gizmo that I can't recall right now.
You may need to unsign first, do your modifications, then re-sign. I think it's a pretty trivial thing to do (haven't done it myself-I just use reshacker).
Edit: you may be trying to use msigner already. If not, hope this helps.
i have tried signer.exe and signtool.exe through dos and neither worked. i will search for what you mentioned.
msigner is the same tool, did not work

question: how to compile files?

Here's the scenario, before i used to use the blank kitchen available here in XDA for Titan, Touch, Diamond and Touch Pro, extract and compile it again with out any problems. How i do it is just by changing the txt file inside the tools folder and can make it work for different phones such as mentioned above. Now i tried using this to the snap i get an error after running the BuiltOS.exe i get an error of "External component has thrown an exception" am i doing something wrong or i am missing some tools? So i tried to continue using builtIt.bat the the actual RUU file was reduced. If you flash it to the actual phone, the phone is stuck at the start up.
I need your help guys thanks

Editing APK files

Hi i have read a few posts about editing apk files but most are only about editing the image files. i need to edit the classes.dex file inside the apk i have done this but when i try and install the apk it doesnt work is this possible to do? thanks
this is not to do anything illegal it is simply to make an android app i use equal to the iphone equivalent (there are less servers for the android app) so i basically want to change the url from the apk to the iphone url)
Cheers

Tried signing the file after modding it?
Sent from my GT-S5360 using xda premium
Hi thanks for your reply, yes i have and it still doesnt work unfortunately
Use apktool to extract the APK, you'll get .smali files instead of classes.dex (this is the decompiled version). Edit these files appropriately, then repack the APK with apktool and sign it. Should work.
Does apktool require command line? if so it is too complicated for me
Yes, it does. If command line is too difficult, it's probably unlikely you'll be able to get this working I'm afraid. You could try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1619473
It's an IDE for editing APKs, might help. But honestly, the command line part is the easy bit
Just never had any luck with any command line stuff for android never works for me and i hate all the extra crap you have to install to use it. Thanks anyway ill see how i go.

If you wanna do basic stuff wid apktool then its a reaaly easy tool.. The commands are really very small!
Apktool d xxxx.apk for decompile
Apktool b xxxx for compiling n ur done!
Even the complex ones arent difficult! Only the installing of apktool takes time and its the hardest thing in the whole procedure

in theory apktool is faily simple. but if you compile for android 4.0 better prepare yourself for huge headaches and a couple of white hairs as this thing wont work. i know two solutions, one consists of a really stupid juggling with two versions, one old which you can barely find, and one new, decompile with the old one, compile with the new one. some guy made a mod though and it finally ends the trouble, but i haven't seen it officially pronounced, which made it so damn hard to find it, hidden in some internet forums. another problem was that aapt needs to be present in the same directory, error codes will just spew out a bunch of gibbersish and you will never know whats wrong so all thats left is trying. but once you got it working it is as easy as pie.
