Tab2 10.1 Any good for viewing 1080P movies? - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm thinking of buying a Tab2 as they are quite cheap now.
I read an online review from 2012 that stated that they are no good for viewing large 1080P file movies?
Is this correct? Have firmware updates corrected this or is the problem related to their average hardware specs?

yes it'$ cann play 1080 p
if my tab 2 7 can do this , so why this not

Well, our screen resolution is 1024 x 600.
So, while you can play 1080P videos on Tab 2, you won't get the full resolution. You will watch the video no problem, but it won't be at 1080.

Actually my P5110 has a screen resolution of 1280 x 800 but it's still not 1080P.

[Q] transformer and high profile HD video

Hello
I want to buy the transformer but one thing is bothering me,will this device be able to run my High profile videos, flawlessly like blu ray rip for example ?
a BluRay Rip which seems like 480-720p (according to mediainfo)
video: 761 Kbps
codec : XviD
resolution : 640x272
frame rate : 23.976 fps
audio: 2.0 MP3 128kbps
another blu ray RIP 1080p :
Format: MKV
Overall bit rate: 5 759 Kbps
Video Bit rate: 5 000 Kbps
Display aspect ratio : 1920 x 1080 (16:9)
Frame rate : 23.976 fps
Writing library: x264 core 88
it's a very decisive aspect, maybe I will wait for exynos tablet (mali400), because we told me that tegra2 was limited regarding 1080p high profile...
thanks
Not got my transformer yet so not had a chance to play around with video yet but there is a post on the handbrake forums that explains a little.
Not able to post links yet but its in the devices page of the handbrake forums and the post is titled Motorola XOOM.
Basically says tegra can do sd in high profile, 720p in main (normal in handbrake) and 1080p needs to be baseline (not sure what you set to get this).

Going by what NVidia have said regarding their next-gen processor (Kal-el), it should be ~5 times more powerful than the current Tegra 2's. They even demo'd a Kal-el tablet playing 1080p content to a HDTV in 1080p. Hopefully that would meet your needs.
I'm looking to load some of the kids DVD ,s on for trips away to keep them occupied ,is it going to be lengthy process to get them to play ok
LEEDROID DESIRE HD using XDA PREMIUM
for the kids heck 320 x ?? should be good enough since I doubt they'll be complaining about quality. you'll get tons of movies loaded and at that res and a lower bitrate they'll convert very fast.
KAL-EL Saw the shogun 2 demo, My god I think I'll wait august to buy a tegra3 tablet, would be stupid not too, i just hope it will be an asus or msi one...

HDMI Out faster fps/higher res?

When using the MHL cable to output the phone's screen to the TV, The video is not nearly as crisp as it is when I play it back later on the computer. I assume this is because the device is showing the compressed video form on the device which is what is being output?
Is there any way to output a better quality version to the TV? (App, etc) Has anyone else felt the same way?

I just picked up the MHL dongle last week. Works great! Love it!
I think VIDEOS I've shot on the Sensation look like 1080p/720p on my Plasma HDTV... to my eye at least. I assume that's what you're talking about....videos you've recorded or HD You Tube vids etc?
Are you for sure recording in HD? 1080p/720p?? I think by default, the Sensation is set to qHD res in the camcorder settings.
You may already know this, but for those who don't.....
The UI on the phone isn't going to be true HD on your HDTV, as the Sensations display is only qHD 960x540. 720p is 1280X720 and 1080p is of course 1920x1080....officially. There is NO compromise on the official HD resolution standard. It either is or isn't HD....qHD is a marketing term...it looks like true HD on mobile devices, but it's not truly HD.
As far as I can tell though.... it does indeed output true HD resolutions from media etc....but not the UI itself. Videos I've recorded look stunning on my plasma....the UI of course looks grainy.
Hope that helps somebody. If I misstated anything...please correct me
That's correct you have to manually change camcorder to 1080P mode.

Thanks! Yeah I am up to date on my resolution knowledge , and Yeah I guess it outputting it in HD, it just is a little jittery, and for fast moving objects (I was recording ping pong XD ) it looked much smoother when I pulled the file off and played it on the computer.
Where are you guys getting your MHL cables? Are they the official HTC ones?

qHD isn't actually marketed as HD... it's qHD because it's (q)uarter HD, as in 1/4 of the HD resolution. 1920 / 2 = 960, and 1080 / 2 = 540. Divide length and width each by 2, and the overall number of pixels gets divided by 4.
It's not just a marketing term.

Correct...it is actually quarter HD, of course....hence the "q". What I meant by marketing term is that a vast majority of people out there see the "HD" and may think it's actually HD...when of course it's not.

Screen quality good for movies & youtube?

I want to get this tablet mainly for movies & youtube. I know the screen is only 800p, but I have a slow Internet connection so I only tend to watch 720p videos anyway.
How good do youtube and movies look on this display with regards to black level and colours.

This review pretty much sums it up...
"The Note 10.1's display was both a disappointment and a surprise. The display carries a resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels, the same as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 and the Toshiba Excite 10.1. That means no high-pixel density clarity or detail on text or graphics, as you'd find on the Acer Iconia Tab A700, Apple iPad, and Asus Transformer Pad Infinity TF700.
However, Samsung has clearly done something with this tablet to boost its display performance. The sharpness and color of images is dramatically better than the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, and my high-resolution images in the Google Gallery had sharpness and detail that came close to what you'd find on the high-pixel density displays. (Another observation: Android tablets typically struggle with skin tones, but the Note 10.1 produced some of the most realistic skin tones I've seen.) Text clarity was better than than on the abysmal Galaxy Tab 2, but it couldn't hold a candle to what you'd get on any of the high-pixel density displays."
I think it's awesome in my opinion. I live the dual speakers having forward. It's now my go to to watch series on in bed.

I thunk this tablet may have the best 1280x800 HD displays out there. REMEMBER. 720P is HD also The display combined with great stereo speakers make this an excellent tablet for media consumption and viewing/listening.
I watch a lot of movies on it. I really don't have an issue with the screen and the sound is impressive.

If you've watched 1080p videos and 720p for example a 15 inch laptop I'd say that you didn't see almost any difference. Of course the screen resolution itself is more important than the videos resolution, but then think about the size, which is minus 5 inches of that laptops screen I find this tablets screen very good. Sometimes I have to zoom webpages but that's only when using splitscreen. So yes it's verygood, but it could be better of course

Very Good. Breathtaking and inspiring.

The screen is accurately calibrated according to "Display Tester" by gombosdev (free in the Play Store). I have no tablet or phone (LCD or AMOLED) that can pass all of the app's gamma tests -- except the 10.1 Note (with latest update).
I was really confused when I wanted to buy a tablet. I was confused between both the New iPad and the Samsung Note 10.1
I was a big Apple fan until I got my hands on this amazing, inspiring, incredible, and lovely Note.
It is seriously one of the best devices I ever had.
Web browsing, youtube videos, movies, gaming, studies, and so much more! "I was actually watching SuperNatural's new episode on my Note10.1 today."
Word of advice: GET IT !

[Q] Question about res

I am thinking about getting the note 10 and got a question about the resolution.
Will saved drawings on the tab be at the same resolution as the screen?
Also. When connected to a tv, What will the output res be?
Will it be full 1080p HD or will it be the same as the tab screen res?

It really depends on what drawing app you use, in sketchbook pro you can save images up to 2.5 k res , in ink you can save them up to 100 mega pixels lol, as for the output I think that also depends on the app you are using and what it supports

Why is it that my new android phone can only watch 360p on youtube?

So I bought a phone and just arrived today its called XGODY S200 from ebay, I can't post link. The screen is 5" and with resolution QHD 540*960. I installed youtube app try to change the video quality and only shows up to 360. Is there anyway I can watch in 720p?

The simple answer is that you can't. The resolution for 720p is 1280×720. qHD (which is 540x960 AKA quarter HD) is different than QHD (which is 2560x1440 AKA Quad HD). qHD is a step below 720p.

I wouldn't mind if you hit that thanks button!!
The qHD vs QHD thing confused me for the longest time because Google thinks they are the same thing since the case of a letter in the search doesn't matter. I'm glad I could help.
