I just upgraded my phone to the CM 10.1 stable rom, installed the AT&T/Rogers radio UCMC1 to try and fix issues with LTE not working
i got LTE working as there was a setting in teh phone information menu to use lte/gsm/wcdma
after this i got 4g working and i felt like trying tethering and discovered tethering will not work when in 4g, but it works fine in 3g
has anyone heard or encountered this issue? I tried searching topics but they are all seem to be that tethering is not working at all on their phones whether it is 3g or 4g
if not i'm assuming it might be an issue with rogers? does anyone know if rogers does tethering through 4g?
My computer stays on limited access so I'm watching this thread for an answer or possible fix. I will say that I'm working around it with an app called FoxFi.

I'm on Rogers and tethering with Beanstalk and Moretz 3.0.9 just fine, and the RUXUMA7 radio. (If you're on Rogers you should really try this one, I've gotten better battery, reception and data speeds with it than UCMC1).
That being said with 4.1.2 and 4.2.2 aosp ROMs tethering doesn't work by default, you have to use a .sh script within a terminal app to fix your iptables before tethering works. Since cm10.1 is aosp you would have needed to look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136684
Next time try to search around as a google search for "skyrocket xda WiFi tether" would have given you the answer.
As for you DSDONE I'm disappointed in you, you know better

I had this exact issue spent days looking for a fix and finally found one here;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136684
I couldn't figure out how to make the shortcut so I just go into gscript lite and activate the script and then run tether hotspot and it works perfectly couldn't believe it.
Try this!

I don't know the definite answer but I seem to remember that no it will not work.
If you're trying to avoid mobile data use though just leave it on airplane mode?
Sorry

Not trying to avoid it... I just don't have a mobile data plan setup... I bought it to use wifi only. A lot of the new roms will be 4G or wifi only is what I read.

Yea, wifi rom will work... but no data!

i have a 3g xoom and missed the 4g upgrade due to being overseas. all i use are wingray (wifi only) roms now cuz it makes no sense to have the 3g roms since they wont work anyway (and it gets rid of the radio signal cluster in the notifications panel).
so, yes, wifi only roms will work with your 3g xoom.
Okay updated my skyrocket ATT phone to ICS 4.04 last night with their legit update from ATT. Now my wifi tether does not work! That is all I use for internet and the main reason I bought this phone. When I click on the app to start tethering the phone hangs for 1 minute, errors message saying settings has stopped working and then everything closes.
Suggestions?
Yes use a custom rom then you get the best of all worlds low bloat and tethering turned on and maybe smoother.

Thats what I was thinking but was trying to be lazy this time. I will have to go read up on the current ROMS. You suggest one over the other?

ICS 4.0.4 Hotspot
I am having the same issue with the hotspot mode. When i go to enter the menu from settings it locks up for about a minute then crashes. I did some reading and found this was an issue with 4.0.4 for some Sony phones. What they found was that they were missing APNs after the update.
The only APN i see on my phone now is the Default PTA and I seem to remember having 2-3 APNs on 2.3.5.
Well sky-ice 4.2f6 is a very nice and its based off of att official rom and seanzscreams does a rom right.

Does anyone know a way to get wifi tether to work on CM 10 for vzw gs3? I'm running the Aug 16th CM10 build. Unlocked bootloader. Can't seem to find a wireless tether app that works. I saw that the native wifi hotspot should work in CM10 on other carriers, but it's not working for me. Anyone have a solution? Thanks.
AOSP has tethering built in. It's working for me on austen dickens latest release Just turn it on in the settings

If the native hotspot isn't working try turning security off. Worked for most on older builds. Don't know if 8-16 should work with security enabled but give it a go without security.

I see it in the settings. When I turn it on there I can connect my laptop and tablets to the network, but the internet never works. Not sure what I'd be doing wrong.

I'm also running that unofficial alpha (plus.google.com/117962666888533781522/posts/QvVGczHD5TF) and the wifi tether seems to work for me. I was able to connect via my wifi-only Kindle and use the web browser. But I've been running this rom for less than a day, so only did a quick check.
Guys, the native tethering & portable hotspot found in settings works perfect.

Yea and I need it to work for school . Guess I'm doing a wipe and clean install
So, I've been trying to get tethering to work correctly on CM10 for some time.
The last time it worked properly for me was the 10/03/2012 nightly build. Since then, even the stable version has issues when the screen is off. Basically, tethering dies when the phone screen is off.
I'm using the 0.16 radio right now, but have tried 1.08s and 1.09ts (Bell Mobility). I am on T-Mo network.
Any ideas of how to get this working properly?

I just tested it and my tethering works fine with the screen off on CM10 using the 0.16 radio. I used the build in portable hotspot feature and connected to it and got data throughput with my touchpad. So I'm sure it works.
This might not be relevant but this is how my phone is setup.
Hboot 1.06
Bootloader baseband .0.15.31501S
CM 10 12/7 nightly
CM10 baseband: 0.16.31501s
Security disabled on wifi thether
Here is the zip for the CM radio try and flash it and try.

There's an app called mhl/HDMI screen standby that allows you to tether while screen is of with 1.08 radio. I could never get it to work while the screen was off.
It's worth it to get the better service

Thanks for the tip. I'm using the CM10 stable build, and I also am experiencing this same issue. When ever the phone goes into "sleep" mode the network data connection quits. Is there a way to fix this without an external app? I'm tried using all the radios, .16, 1.08, 1.09, 1.11, but to no avail. I'd really like a fix without having to do one more extra thing and I can't seem to find an answer anywhere.
Looking through the forums it appears that some are using the tethering just fine while the screen is off with no mention of an external app. How did they do it?
Thanks in advance,
HPM
Can anyone recommend a rom, app, or method that will allow tether over 4g on 4.2?
I've tried native tether on rasbean and HP's rom. I've also tried WiFi tether app and have been unsuccessful in my efforts. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think the issue is that people aren't having the same issue as you are. Native tethering doesn't work for me, but the "WiFi Tether" app does.
Thanks for responding. What you say is very peculiar. I've now tried two 4.2 ROMs and 4g tether didn't work on either (with or without WiFi tether app). Perhaps I'm using wrong an incompatible kernel or rom.
1. What rom/kernel combo are you running?

It may also be your provider - the upgrade to 4.1.2 "enforces carrier settings" on tethering. It actually makes me ponder rolling back to ICS so I can use native tethering, to be honest.

I've managed to get Wifi Tether to work on the Provision Rom for 4.1.2. No luck with 4.2.1, though.
