Go to your phone settings, and perform a factory reset that will do.

Use any Explorer( Solid Explorer recommended), go to /data search for that app(say facebook) related files and delete all files you find. Main file that is needed to be deleted is .odex file of that app.
for instance if whatsapp in not getting installed, then files like com.whatsapp.odex , com.whatsapp.apk and all other files related to whatsapp are needed to be deleted.
Install the app again then. It should get installed
If this doesnt solves the problem then you need to do factory reset.

I can confirm this after I've had this problem on both SGS2 and SGS4. The path is root/data/app, though, where you will find the .odex file of your and possibly other apps as the last entries.

Google music app not installing

I've google searched this to no end and I've tried the other solutions, so I'll ask here.
I tried installing the new google music. System complains it's a system app, but I tell it to install anyway. Tells me "Application cannot be installed in the default location". So I try using Titanium Backup to uninstall (after backing up) the old music app. Then I get "Application still exists." So I try changing setInstallLocation to 0. And it says "Package is not signed correctly."
I have gotten all 3 errors and as far as I know I've tried all possible solutions, but maybe someone can help.
Thanks in advance.

Tried it. Doesn't show up in my app list after a restart. I've deleted music.apk and com.google.music.apk (the original apk), then put the new google music in the folder.
I've also tried installing it in that fashion as well to no avail.
After you put something in the /system you have to change permissions or the app will not show up , link you a photo of proper permissions
Edit : Put the app in system/ first , then long press on it and select permissions, change permissions to match the photo I attached below. After that, Then move the app to /system/app/ , I dont move apps to /system/app/ until after I changed permissions because some apps will constant force close if you replace the apk and the permissions weren't set first, not many apps will but its good practice if you didnt make a backup before changing apk's.

Has anyone managed to get to the bottom of this? I get the exact same on my Galaxy S running CM7.1 and went through this the last update and it's happening again.
I've made sure to remove all files/directories with "com.google.android.music" "com.android.music" and just "music" - obviously be careful not to remove other items. I also cleared both the cache and dalvik-cache, rebooted etc and it still says the application already exists.
Where else could Android be storing app names? I've cleared out the Market data and then checked using SQLiteEditor that the app isn't the Market database files, but I now notice that "Google Music" is listed at the bottom under "Not Installed" as if it thinks it's a paid app!
Fortunately copying the apk into system as you instructed above gets me the app, but even then nothing changes in Market and it still thinks it's "Not installed" unless I force it by using Titanium Backup.

Yes thanks, but that's not the issue. Installing it manually works just fine but at best it's a kludge. Without any signs of the app anywhere on the phone, Market still says it already exists. I'd like to know why so for the next update things work as they should.

Installing apk files - App not installed? ???

Hi all, bare with me, i hope this is in the correct place as have searched and cant find a thing. Just come from an iphone to samsung note so be gentle..
I am trying to install. Apk files from several locations , phone memory, sd card, network..
But i keep receiving "App not installed." Message 99% of the time, every now and then it will work, but i have no idea whats going on please help.
I am running stock 2.3.6 gingerbread, unrooted as that wont work either :/
Using XDA Premium (GT-N7000)
This might not be any help but i had the same problem on my infuse i flashed back to froyo then installed 2.3.6 +root and it went away

Under settings> applications do you have unknown sources checked? If not, that is most likely your problem.
Yeah have unknown sources checked, but just will hardly ever install anything. Dont get it
Took me about 50 tries to install angry birds ffs!
Using XDA Premium (GT-N7000)
Some apps need to be installed via Root Explorer by placing it to some folder.
So why after so many attempts did it work? ??
Also why do some apps insist on only working from the phone memory and not external sd card, is my 64gb card going to be useless?
Using Tapatalk (GT-N7000)
Dunno, its weird.

Didnt you clear some space between some tries?
I have 63gb free on my sd card, and 11.5 gb on my internal space lol

Hmmmm, that´s strange...perhaps the update may fix it.
Update?

You should root it, flash a custom rom, remove the unused applications, this will make it a much faster.I'd recommend you flash the Gadgetcheck's RevoHD for Note, its perfect.
Now, when you try to install an application from any other place but market, its normal to not be able to. If you are not rooted you shouldnt be able to as well.
When I try to install an application that I have downloaded from somewhere else I think it requires superuser permissions and I have to go to Settings/Applications/Unknown sources and check it.Doing this might solve your problems.
But cant tell for sure, I'm an owner of S II not note.
Good luck.
I cant root it though
Using XDA Premium (GT-N7000)
check the Unknown source first
Already done.

That not right, its a installed file, so you have to place it in its original folder. then restart & done
install a custom rom simples also why do you have to install that way there is a thing called the market i have a seeking suspicion that the apps you want to install a pirated we all do it
Hi there... just some ideas and few questions
First off all... is that a new samsung from a store or you bought it from someone else ?
What to try:
- Shutdown the phone
- remove the SD card
- after that boot normaly into the OS
- then go to settings - applications and find the market / play store app
- Click on it, FORCE CLOSE if you can and clear the CACHE
- After that try to install any app.
Tell me whats happening after that all.
gl
Airplayit isnt on the store.
Ive tried all of that, just wont install.
Its a brand new phone and i cant install a cystom rom, it wont root ive tried.
Using XDA Premium (GT-N7000)
To manually install an app, you'll need root access. Try asking in the q&a forum for your specific device for help with that.
After you've gotten root access (however you do it), copy the .apk to /system/app (you can use a adb, a terminal emulator, or a third party file manager to do this)
Then, change the permissions on the file to so that owner, group, and users all have read and write (but not execute) permissions (that's 644 if you're using chmod)
Here's a link that explains how to manually install an app contained in taskmanager.apk
http://yagyagaire.blogspot.com/2012/03/task-manager-for-cm-rom-on-gt-s5570.html
If you read the explanations (after the he steps you through the process) it's easy to apply this same process to any other .apk no matter where it's stored.

Help One More Time?

So, I'm on my galaxy s3, I updated It to the newest android, and It was rooted. Whenever I boot it up, It freezes a lot now, and It reboots randomly and frequently. I have a 32 gb Ex. SD Card as well as the internal SD Card. I would like to backup all of my contacts, apps, and app data, and then I would like to root my phone again After that. Also, My google play store will not let me download anything, because I cannot sign into the play store, I just want to learn how to backup those things and completely restart my phone.

Well if you don't have any backup app on your phone and you can't download from playstore, first you have to fix your playstore by clear "data" for the following apps, (Go into settings->apps tab on ALL)
1. Downloader
2. Google play store
3. Google framework services
4. Delete your google account
5. Reboot phone and recreate google account
If you can download from playstore, download "my backup" app, it's great for contacts and SMS (Titanium is the best but not good for contacts and sms).
** If still not able to access playstore, you need to download "my backup apk" and install it.

My backup will backup all contacts, sms, mms, all apps and app data and system data (scheuler, calendar, system settings etc..). The nice thing is when you restore, you have option to do full restore, or just certain apps (with or without app data), or you could restore just contacts/sms/mms/scheduler/system data etc.(individually-one by one), very flexible indeed.
I'm curious why when I was trying to help in the other post you would open a new post with the exact same question?

If you have ES File explorer and have all the root permissions checked for the app,I think you could do a search for it if you know what it was called?Or maybe an advanced search in ESF by date?

How do you know it even downloaded? If it downloaded I think it would apply the update immediately.Check in your about settings maybe it is already running the update.OTA updates won't delete your settings or apps or anything like that.

no, it never installed only downloaded because it prompt me to install the update then gave me a option to remind later and then stayed in my notification bar.

There can be another scenario
Maybe there is an update of Google play or services framework going on in background.
wait for sometime it should work.
or your memory would have filled up completely. delete some apps.

I had problems with google play store too. Then I tried this fix...
I downloaded root explorer, then copied the file
"Vending.apk" (Goolgle market) - not really matter
what version to /system/app (You need to press
the "mount RW" before).
Then changed the permissions on that file (Read to
All and Write to Owner alone).
Once this was done you MUST reboot and after the
reboot it will be working great.
It couldn't hurt trying...
