Telephoto Lens - Xperia Z Accessories

Has Anybody tried this on the Z?
It looks promising, but I have a 5x clip on lens that doesn't work very well at all. For $25 it's probably worth a gamble but I wanted to try to ask here first.

What do you mean? What does the weight of the phone have to do with anything?
The lens is mounted to the case that comes with it as far as I can see, if you're worried about the weight of the phone being a bit too much for the whole construction... I'd say the phone should be able to care a lot more then it's own weight.

Thanks, mine needs this too. Odd since I've kept this thing in a soft cloth or leather case with felt padding on the inside the whole time...

thanks for the links. i actually saw these when i searched the web. i was hoping to only get that small glass piece that covers the camera instead of buying the whole back cover. not sure if it actually comes like that, but if anyone else has any info on it that would be great.

From the links, it looks like it's built into the back casing. Kinda makes sense though since it would have to be pressfit on I guess.

Mine too!
I have had the unfortunate results like yourselves. However what I did serves me well enough.
I took a screen protector and cut a small square. Placing that over the camera has removed the haze from my pictures.

hmmmm kind of serves you right for keeping your phone unprotected in a pocket with keys or lose change.
next time round get a case/pouch mine covers my entire phone protecting from both scratches and impact damage.
BTW the DZ cam is pretty crappy and blurry any way ........ even by pinhole lens phone cam standards so don't expect miracles once replaced.

Umm, no. My Z takes pretty good photos. Of course very low light situations will result in longer shutter time, and increased chances for blur due to camera or the subject moving. But in most conditions good photos are very possible, and mostly a matter of technique and experience. Manually adjusting ISO, white balance, taking advantage of what light is present, and bracing the camera can all have major impact on the quality of the photo, even in lower light situations. Moral of the story your problem is likely more the user, and not the equipment. I don't mean that in a pejorative way. But while not the best camera phone around, good photos are possible with the Z, with the proper technique.
I used a mild lens restorer on mine fixed her right up. Perfect pictures again

No offence bro but considering the fact i was a professional photographer for 6 years straight and still do some work now as a pro photographer.
I have no "problems" with photographic "technique"
Maybe my ideas of 'clear' and 'sharp' digital images is a little more informed and nuanced than yours. But compared to a few other 5mp phone cameras IMHO the Desire Z is on average at best and poor if you want to be critical.

Hard to take your comment of "no offence" seriously, as you are bragging about your photog experience and how much "more informed" you are than me (no basis for any such claim). Why not keep it to a technical discussion, instead of boasting about how awesome you are, "bro"?
Largely comes down to expectations and opinion. Camera phones are largely for spur-of the moment snapshots (not serious photography). For this, the Desire Z is just fine. We are also talking about a phone that is a year and a half old. In its time, its camera was much better (especially low light) than the iPhone iteration of the time (3GS). Were there camera phones at the time that were a bit better, yes, but not drastically. More recent phones have significantly better cameras, and the One X looks to blow away most the competition (except the Nokia Pureview's monster 41 MP camera). But seeing as every other spec on smartphones has come a long way in the past year and a half, its not really fair to compare the Z to newer phones.
Also, seeing as the OP is just looking to restore his present technology to a previous condition, calling it "crappy and blurry" doesn't really help him out at all.
Agree with previous poster, seriously if you want good pics you get an slr or dedicated rig. Most people don't carry that around. For what it is the camera on this phone is very good to good enough depending who you ask and their expectations. Sure beats carrying around a point and shoot or slr multi lens combo. Like I told the OP if your considering getting a new back then try cleaning it up with a mild abrasive like a lens restorer, CD scratch remover something of that nature. I used the stuff for headlights it was like 5 bucks. Don't go crazy I used super minimal pressure and a soft paper towel and it took all of 30 seconds to clear up no joke. Good as new and I haven't had to do it again. In my case it was the anti-reflective coating in the glass, since it was shot who cares right? Came off and pics are sharp again. In the future if I actually scratch it I'll probably buy a replacement but that did it for me. Just my 2 cents.
I had the same problem as you, but I managed to fix it using a polish dedicated to car headlights.
Thaks for the links, i have problems with the camera glass too.

questions about storage and performance

okay hay guyz currently thinking of getting a new phone practically i ave gs2 but i can get some good money for it
okay my questions
1- is it worth changing to the one s
2-what about storage in my s2 i have 16 gbs of internal storag but actually they used to be 12 and some guy 2day told me that with the newest ics rom it became 13 gigs
3-battery life is it good compared to the s2
4- durability can the phone hold the phone hold scratches and drops ??? cuz my s2 used to fall allot and all i got was some lil scratches in the bottom
5-how much the phone takes to charge i mean from 0 to 100 my s2 taked about 3 hours and that annoyed me
thx wish u help me
note: by worth it i mean that i will be spending some amount of money like 100 -120 usd
Get it tomorrow. Grey one. Will let you know what I can then.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA
Be honest the s2 is a great phone specification wise..is it worth it. It'd come down to build quality I think mate..eg HTC or samsung
Sent from my HTC One S using XDA Premium App
the build quality for this phone is awesome, Along with the battery life
a full charge is about the same as any phone really, for me its about 2.5 hours (i always leave it a little extra once its reached 100%)
The phone is scratch resistant, But that doesnt mean its impossible to scratch, Just look after it, Dont drop it on purpose
Storage is a bummer for most people, For me its plenty I can always swap media from phone > PC >back to phone.. I dont need to carry my whole collection of media with me.. Plus the 25gb free dropbox is really cool.
All in all spec wise they are similar, The development is slow going at the moment for the One S (but its still not released worldwide) so it can be expected...
If you can afford the difference id say go for it..... If you have worked you balls off for ages and ages to find that difference in price needed, Id pass for now...

Hi azzledazzle, I know you have a grey one s for some time now. So you think the grey metal's quality is quite good so is the plastic parts? I am really tired waiting for the improvement of the MAO material on the black one so very likely to go for the grey one just these days.
So your answer will be really important for me thx!!

Hey man, Yeah ive had the grey one for almost a week now, I love it Its so sleek and really enhances the phone. The quality is awesome it has a rugged feel to it, It doesnt feel cheaply made.
I like the grey because it comes with a blue ring around the camera, which really looks cool. The only downside is its sooo smooth. it can be difficult to keep a firm grip on it..
I would choose the grey over black without a doubt. But thats your decision not mine

I think I'm going for the grey one to. I'm only a bit afraid to drop it if it's really that slippery. Is it still acceptable if you're careful or do you really need a case ?
i dont have a case and i havent dropped it yet...
the slippery(est) part is taking it from your pocket.. Once its in hand its not soo bad..
But a case certainly wouldnt be a bad thing.... Im looking for a clear one because i like the grey, i dont want to hide it with a case

It is very true that when taking out the phone from pocket, that's the moment you need to be careful. I tried the grey one in a shop and put the phone in my pocket, you need to be used to the slippery back when handling it.

So a few days, my LED Case turned up from Korea (Yes I had it imported due to the poor stock allowances on the Samsung Estore)
I spent £55 to get it, however had £30 in Amazon Vouchers... So technically £25 including postage. I picked the Black one... (Charcoal Gray to be technically correct)
It goes well with White in my opinion.

My General Review;
First off lets get something straight here, The cases functionality compared to the HTC One M8 Dot View is some what limited.
Imagine David and Goliath... David being Dot View Case... Well you get some idea.
This is a niche product, that's for sure and at that price, I expect better from Samsung. I feel like they are slowly turning into Apple with their overpriced accessories.
HTC in my view priced the Dot View Case right for what it is.
I would like to have seen better quality material. Not the same that they are using on the normal flip wallet... ITs nearly £30 more then the Normal one and £15 more than the S-View Window.
On a bright side, It does have a nice feel to it regardless. Its not flimsy, it fits fine. It reacts as its supposed to and is great for telling when something is going on.
It has passive and active notification systems. When you get a phone call, it'll tell you. When you have a Facebook / Whatsapp etc, 4 little lights will move about every 20 seconds or so....
I think its great for the aesthetics. Nothing more. I wish I could have shown you how it works but for your benefit, I have included 2 videos.
My own review below; & A video showing it in action.
Final Thoughts;
I would Say 7/10. Its official, it works nicely. However for what it is, I would have wanted to pay less...

That is the general notification light for anything other than Calls, Emails or Messages using the stock Sammie Apps.
I have been using mine for about a week now and it's great. I have the Note 3 with S view and you can't really compare the two covers.
You buy the Led cover for only one reason: showing off. It's unique and cool and good looking, and for a product in this category you shouldn't expect to pay a fair price - of course it is over priced. Hell, here in Denmark I can buy some cheap windows phone for he same money I gave for the LED cover, and it's fine with me.
It would be awesome if some dev bothered to expand the funcionality of it though, like fx desplaying caller's name in one line etc. I really miss that and some other functionality from the S-view cover, but I will keep it on regardless because its cool.
my only problem with it: it doesn't cover the phone perfectly when closed (at least mine) even though its basically new and I didn's abuse it in any way. The flexible part of it is a bit too thin/soft and so it doesnt close perfectly and firmly and "swims" a bit, and I can only assume it will get worse with time. Anyways, my review of it is that it is a cool gadget with very low funcionality beyond the very basics, but very good wow effect.

Has anyone succesfully replaced the Nexus 6P battery?

I am looking to replace my battery on my Nexus 6P, I've abused it in the form of basically charging it all the time, all 8 hours at work, it sat on the charger all day, since I use it heavily. I now know the erro of my ways and I want to repalce the battery.
I've watched videos on how to do it, I know it's not easy, but it is possible. Has anyone here changed it, also where did you get the battery, I've found them anywhere form $10 to $50, I ahve no problem paying more if I know it's an OEM battery.
Thanks in advance.
Maybe someone, but I've not heard of anybody doing it....
Not here either....seems like a terrible time haha Best of luck to you if you try but when my battery life degrades to that point I will be parting with this phone and either buying another one of some sort. Even working with electronics for years there no way I'd personally succeed the first time lol

Right! The teardown video I saw made it look not that bad, and I toar apart my Galaxy Nexus to replace the USB port on it back in the fday, and that was actually fun, granted it had a removable back with easier access to screws, but still.

I have been eyeing the oneplu3 and oogling over the supposed specs on the oneplus4, so I'll probably go there as soon as it's released, but my battery is bad, I get 2 hour SOT if I'm lucky, this phone used to give me 4+ easy.

Buy extra camera glass pieces. Thats literally the only thing that normally goes wrong if you dont have a real heat gun. Dont thing hair dryers will do the trick unless your extremely patient. I plan on replacing the housing soon.

Haha yeeeeaaah all that GSM crap and all their "nice" phones Good luck if ya try man, you're more adventurous than I!
I've successfully done an internal component swap. Swapped the motherboard and battery from a very beat up N6P into one that was in excellent condition but was basically a paperweight.
The most difficult thing about this project was not getting into the phone, but getting into the phone without leaving any noticeable scratches. Removing the camera glass and the plastic strip at the bottom took at least half an hour of heating and gentle prying. Getting the screen out without a suction cup tool was a bit tricky too, i had to wedge in a chisel x-acto blade and pry it up, lucky no damage was done.
My advice would be to have on hand as many of the tools suggested in the youtube videos and to be patient while do it.

Good to know
Thinking about doing mine
I've never taken mine apart but if I plan on replacing my battery I will buy the replacement glass piece and bottom plastic piece at the same time. Those are the only pieces that can get damaged in the process.
I just watched that video. from the looks of it, so long as you take your time. and have that suction cup tool, it should be fairly straight forward. at least you are not having to separate the screen itself from the guts to get inside.
Looks like my battery is on its way as well.
Anyone sourced genuine replacement yet?

Why?
I understand the 2 out of 10 rating on iFixit after replacing the back cover on my phone. 90% of the pain is getting to the 6 screws. I don't think it is possible without scratching up the old cover. Funny thing is that I just wanted to change it from silver to black. A heat gun is a definite requirement. Not for the faint at heart for sure.

Is the camera worth it?

I really love the Oneplus 6, top to bottom, don't care the missing of the stereo speaker or the notch (cause OOS seem to deal with it quite good)
The only issue keeps me from buying it is the camera. I have seen a lot of reviews and comments about the camera and they are pretty mixed which confused me.
I need the phone to last for about 3 years or so and I mainly use it when I travel and to takes photos. I heard that there are updates that fix things but still read that there are issues.
Can you guys give me your own opinion about the camera and if I should go for it or move to the Galaxy S8 plus?
P/s: quite sure that I will try to use Gcam instead on both phone, have it on my old phone and it absolutely surprised me cuz the image came out quite nice for such an old phone.
Not a fan of any brands (except Iphone which I don't really like, but I do like Ipad and I don't hate Apple by any means) so if you have other recommendation under $500 then feels free to say, so far I only see these 2 are the best for what my budget can buy.
Thank you for your helps.
It's right there with the best cameras. It beats then in certain shots and they beat it on certain shots in the comparison tests. I still think it might be a hair behind the likes of the s9, pixel 2xl and I think it's better then the iPhone overall. It's close in low light to them, as good if not better in good light and it handled the bright areas better then dinner of this phones in not blowing out the highlights.
I have zero complaints and I'm an enthusiast photographer. Unless I'm doing a wedding or something really important, I have no issues using this camera. It more then does the job. Of course you can get a shot it doesn't handle well, but every PHONE is the same way. None will replace a dslr
The camera is mint works amazing!

It's right there with the best cameras. It beats then in certain shots and they beat it on certain shots in the comparison tests. I still think it might be a hair behind the likes of the s9, pixel 2xl and I think it's better then the iPhone overall. Wow glad to hear from a photographer, I would definitely pick OP 6 if I don't mind the camera as I used to, but planned to go on multiple vacations with it and personally loves to take scenery photos so your reply helps a bunch.
Gonna take another look and get the OP 6. My friend has a deal for it with about 100$ off
No, it's not worth it. Theres bad oil painting effect in low light. Pics are very hit and miss, some are great, some are awful and now I have dust under the lens and I have a black spot I can't get rid of on photos. I certainly couldn't recommend it.

Darn that sounds bad, but I head it only apply to A6003 model?
Some of the people I know used the OP 6 but none reported that issues ((
But sounds worrying

Its not bad. On my recent trip to Canada and USA, I packed my Nikon 850. I took over 1200 pictures during my 2 weeks vacation. I might have used my Nikon for less than 75 shots. Convenience of phone camera outweighs the hassle of lugging a complete system. Unless you are taking pictures for a luving, this phone camera will be more than suffice to satisfy your shutterbug needs.
I strongly believe that it's not the camera but eye behind the camera that make or break the picture. If you are little dissatisfied with extremely low light shots, you can enhance in post production. Make sure to keep HDR option on. I had S8+ abd my wife still has S9 and I can tell you from a bormal viewing distance, you could not tell the difference apart. Remember, you can always switch to pro camera mode for better control. Hope this helps. Good luck.

i will not suggest samsung phone if you love to take pic on kid or pet in indoor with (basically any moving object in low light on samsung phone come up blur mess), other than that i agree s8 has a bit better on camera, and you may need to get use to the very slow update on samsung

I do really understand why you bring the links here but seriously I read all of those (except the video one since I'm not fond of that anyway, have like 1 or 2 videos taken with my 2.5 years old phone) and it's really confusing, some said good some said bad (and they do have evidence)
I check on xda (which tbh my trusty place to find user experience) and they are mixed.
I check on youtube with those reviewers I think that are not bs, and it's still mixed.
I check all those reviews on the internet and other forums, and it's still mixed.
I don't usually do these Q&A on XDA (this actually my first) because this is just too hard to decide this time.
Thanks you for your help but it yet solve my confusions.

That's interesting, I use it for my vacations and I love to take scenery shots (and probally a few shot with my friends or selfies but only a little as I don't like to take photos of myself or person in general)
I'm still yet decided if I stick with Samsung software or move to a custom rom since they both have pros and cons (and somehow I find the S8 forum is not really active?)
but I totally love the experience that I saw on the OP 6 so far.
If you have either of the phone or both, I would really love to hear more of your opinion, thank you.

That sounds really interesting, can i have a few of your shots to check out cause really I love the phone just the camera is bugging me.
If I need a phone purely for daily experience then this definitely in my pocket right now
Scenery shots will be best since I will use it mostly for scenery, thank you so much!

That looks absolutely good!
Already contacted my friend for the deal but there is an issue bugging me tho.
Others said that they have some issue with dust in the lens, do you have any idea about this?

I am not sure who and why they are saying about the dust issues. Absolutely no dust issues here. Previously posted shots are the proof. You would have noticed diffraction if there was any dust. To put your mind at ease, spend $2 and buy tempered glass lens protector on Amazon, eBay, or Aliexpress. I dont even use cover or screen protector for my phone (never have used for the last 15 years or so). Rather than worrying about protecting, enjoy by actually using the gadget-my two cents worth advice.

I tend to drop my phone so probably a shockproof case (and be more careful since it's glass) but thank you so much for the advice! :highfive::highfive:
