LG Intuition VS-950 Factory Restore after BRICK! - Android General

Purpose:
Restore LG Intuition VS-950 to Factory after Brick
Reason:
After Rooting if something got messed up you will get the "Security Error" or "Morning Call Failure" preventing Boot
I assume from what I have read on XDA and other sites that this is due to VZW software that prevents tampering with OEM setup
And If my wife found out that I messed up the brand new phone she just got me yesterday, yes yesterday, she would kill me.
Here it is!!
Files Needed [included]
Drivers: LG_VZW_United_WHQL_v2.11.0.exe
LGmobile Support Tool (LGMST) : KDZ_FW_UPD_EN.zip
TIP:Save Everything to the same Folder
Steps
1. Install Diver set LG_VZW_United_WHQL_v2.11.0.exe
2. Unzip LGmobile Support Tool KDZ_FW_UPD_EN.zip
3. Go to folder that the ZIP file created and install KDZ_FW_UPD.exe
4. Open LGMobile Support Tool - It will say not connected
5. Grab BRICKED phone and Press Vol UP + Vol DOWN then insert USB that is plugged into computer
6. LGMST will now show "Phone Connected"
7. Click on Customer Support then Recovery Phone
8. Click Check IMEI
9. Click OK
10. WAIT for LGMST to do its thing. It will seem like nothing is going on, but be patient!
11. Software will now do some Analysis and begin Downloading software
12. LG VS-950 Firmware size 856mb! will save to c:\ProgramData\LGMOBILEAX\Phone if you want to save it
13. Software will now start Decompressing download
14. Flashing begins after decompress and you will see estimated time left
15. Towards end of flashing phone will reboot and come back to life! yea baby yea!!
Entire process took me about 45 minutes

Hey, I think the LG support tool has updated... Screenshots look different from what I'm looking at, and the program hangs on 'downloading' without ever actually starting. I'm in desperate need of a way to repair this unloved phone.

Any updated direction?

As for how to do this? Or if it has changed?

[Q] LG Fathom Emergency Mode and Updating Problem

Hello,
I've tried emergency mode, and then updating for LG Fathom. After the phone goes into "Downloading... Do not unplug!" mode, the update begins but fails at the % 94. It does not complete the updating process and does not reset. I replaced the battery but it still says "Downloading... Do not unplug!" I've tried to update again but the LGMobile Support Tool actually detects it as "Model: VS750, Version: VS750ZV7" and the text box says "The Cell phone is the latest version already. So you don't need to update." but it still says "Downloading... Do not unplug!"
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
Oscar

Can you expand on your question?
Please explain what you are doing, and at what point you are running into problems.
I don't have time to do a walkthru and I'm on another computer that contains the files and it's VERY late, but the below should get you off to a start:
Are you running the official LG updater LGMobileUpdate.exe? (it sucks)
Did you download the flash file to your hard drive, or are you relying upon the (crappy LGMobileUpdate.exe) official update program that goes online for the flash file? and usually crashes right at the end?
Did you remove the SD card?
Battery fully charged?
Configured USB mode /PC sync mode correctly?
Using the cable that came with the phone?
Have you installed the USB drivers?
IIRC I think these are the ones - Google to find:
LGUSBModemDriver_Eng_WHQL_Ver_4.9.4_All.exe
CRC32: 17CFF6EE
MD5: 18710A96C1B08C9CD91872B746F8A647
SHA-1: C4B85224A36CD317B3FF6BF331E0431C82D1B939
Are you using LG-Utils-0.4.2.zip -from-bhast02_xda-Developers
CRC32: C24F872B
MD5: 97DEDB4437DEBC80CF92B90B93DED0E3
SHA-1: 53AEEBB3E6E2B03A3B45D557A62DF2EE39D44482
Did you put the "Official" LG updater and rom flash file in the same directory as the files you extracted from LG-Utils-0.4.2.zip?
Did you configure the exe KP500 to run in SP2 mode, full admin rights?
Which OS are you running? and at what SP level?
Running as Admin?

Answered you on Howard Forums- Please follow-up /leave feedback.
RE: LG Fathom VS750 Emergency Download Mode exit
Depress the RESET button located near the micro usb port.
FYI: Run the update tool in XP SP2 compatibility mode, remove SD from slot before flash, make sure battery is fully charged... and use LG-Utils-0.4.2 to point the updater to local file on hard drive for best results. (Put LGMobileUpdate.exe, B2CAppSetup.exe in same folder you extracted LG-Utils-0.4.2 to.)
VS750 USB drivers (I think): LGUSBModemDriver_Eng_WHQL_Ver_4.9.4_All.exe
PS: VS750ZV5_06.SV5_06.P58006.R5.cab with the addition of SPB SHELL 3.5.5 or some other launcher /shell gives you more customization options.
Far more than V7 does (V7 appears to be running a OEM version of SPB Shell)
V7 = Causes the Mute incoming call ringer app to crash. When the phone is ringing if the vol up/down key is depressed it crashes. Ringer does not mute....
http://spb.com/pocketpc-software/
http://spb.com/pocketpc-software/mobileshell/screenshots.html
I have done as per the above, its just stuck in the down load mode.

I can see many people got stuck in "Downloading... Do not unplug!" mode on LG fathom VS750,
while updating or after an update is over,, and i am one of them now.
My vs750 was unstable so tried updating it to v7 through KP500 LG Utilis - 0.4.2-N
but end of update,, phone got hung didnt reboot n since then it got stuck in emergency mode forever.
basically the phone doesnt reboot to windows leaving the "Downloading... Do not unplug" screen
tried almost everything even removed the phones main hardware board CMOS cell to clear RAM ROM,, but no luck!
Disabled modem in device manager then re-flashed various BIN files in emergency mode using LGNPST 1.2 Lab version,, flashing done 100% but phone never reboots to windows,, real strange piece of ****!
HTCs are much more stable and reluctant from such unwanted disasters when someone is least expecting them.
if any one has tried anything different or got a fix from LG customer care,, please share.
Thnx in advance!

Do not directly download the ROM from website.
First download it from LG site, then flash it.

[Q] LG optimus 3d p925g bricked

I've looked at the similar threads , to be honest even if one of the suggestions might work , none of the people seem to have the same problem from my understanding.
So apologize ahead of time as i imagine someone has bricked in a similar fashion in some thread buried somewhere.
But have an unlocked P925g lg optimus 3d, got a few days ago.
Last night i rooted just fine , root checker says it was rooted properly.
Then i installed rom manager as i was following manbearpigs post.
When i got to flash clockwork mod , i clicked the button and it looked like it was doing some flashing , but the phone turned off to reboot??
and now when i power on the lg logo appears and then the screen goes funny.
If i try to hold the power down and 3d button , i get a green screen . However i'm very unsure of what to do next.
However when i plug into usb the phone goes black , refuses to turn back on until i take the battery out.
I'd pay someone here if i could , but i'll take any help i can get.
Appreciate any help.
I don't KNOW, but just an idea:
May be your phone is stuck in download mode?
With this latest ICS (original, not ported) my phone shows black screen when in download mode (no message SW UPDATE and something in Korean).
Did you try to plug your phone to PC? Does your comp see it?
From what I read flashing wrong CWM might cause problems...
Also try to read Ressurection thread by xbsa, it helped me couple times
Don't give up!

My computer does see the phone if i take the battery out , and push the volume down while it connects. However when it connects , it cannot find drivers that it find originally.
I'd be happy just to have the phone back to froyo right now , however i am not giving up , just asking for advice. Will reply once i look at the resurrection post you suggested.

just try the LG flash tool to flash without reinstalling drivers, if it doesn't flash you have to uninstall all LG drivers, reboot your computer, install again LG drivers and flash Bin files using Flash tool, you don't have to flash Bin and fls files at the same time, first Bin file, if there is no network close LG flash, open it again and flash Fls at second time to get the right baseband (sometimes it not necessery to flash this fls files)
or just follow this guide
http://www.technopat.net/forum/android-telefonlari/9128-lg-optimus-3d-ultimate-flash-guide.html

To get to download mode you need to keep battery in, remove sim and SD card. Hold vol+ and plug USB cable. You should see message SW UPDATE and some Korean. My phone now doesn't show it, just blank screen. But LG Flash sees it and u can flash bin fls.

Remove drivers and use the LGMobile Support Tool to install the drivers, if your phone is connected it should detect it and finish the install process. I believe the P925G is a Rogers device? You might have to select Rogers as your carrier to find the drivers.

ok so i've deleted all lg related material from my computer, when i connected the phone to the computer with battery in , nothing happens.
Without battery , it detects automatically , then it continues a loop of picking it up and dropping off .
So i moved to my laptop , attempted to follow the guide kupuku posted, however after getting the went logo on the phone , it never gets past that stage no matter what i do.
I've also tried LG support tool , it doesn't detect my phone on either my computer or laptop , even after installing/reinstalling the proper drivers.
LG does have a live chat which isn't open and the phone number can not be reached from my area.. i imagine its a 1800 number for asia or something as i do live in Canada.
My only other choice is to take the phone down to a guy that can get it out of boot loop for close to what i paided for the phone a few days ago.
Least to say , that option is something i want to do , nor can i afford to do.
once again i apprecaite the help that has been given , and for any that will be given.
edit:
Ok so i got lg mobile support to work by doing recovery and entering my imei number. Its currently at 4% but its been close to an hour and a half. Might restart and see if that works , but my phone is doing the logo boot repeat pattern still , even during this update. so not sure what exactly is happening.

[GUIDE] [P720/725/720H] Resurrection Guide (Let´s get those brick´s fixed)

Hello Guys, i have to show you, how you can recover your LG P720/725 and 720H. It´s very simple. Since i have my LG P720 i have reflashed my phone so often by this step´s
there give´s 3 methodes to bring your Smarthphone back to orginal
First what do you need.
First off all you need the KDZ from your Phone and the *.cp and *.ap also the binarys
----------- S/W MODE --------------
Plugged your Batterie out of the Phone. Wait 3 seconds.
Bring it back and insert your USB Cable to the Phone. Then Hold the Volume+ Button for 6 seconds. Your S/W Mode will start.
Now Connect your Phone to the PC, maybe you must install the Driver. (There are in the LG Flash Tool Package included)
If you didn´t flashed your Phone and it´s bricked automaticly , you can use the First Methode
--------First Methode ------
Connect Your Phone via USB to the PC and bring your Phone in the S/W Mode.
Start your LGMobile Support Tool and start the Emergency Mode, it will download the KDZ and flash it new to the Phone.
You have flashed a wrong Bin or KDZ to your Phone? Or Your Bootloader is bricked, also Bootloop ? Use this Methode
---------- Second Methode-----------------
You need the "LG Flash Tool Package" and the full working "LPG720 DLL" you can get the FlashPack here p92x.acidhazardrom.com/ccount/click.php?id=15 . This Includes all relevant Drivers, install it.
Here in the Post you find the LG Flash Tool 1.2 without Drivers
and the DLL are from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1937519&stc=1&d=1367761284
The SmartFlash Tool http://hotfile.com/dl/143853325/ed430ad/SFT.rar.html Password [email protected]
--If You have a Behavior Blocker on your PC, disable it ---
Install all Drivers from the LG FlashPack.
Bring your Phone to the S/W Mode, install the Drivers.
So after you installed it, go to your Device Manager on the PC and change the Comport under connections > LG Modem ..... to COM41. Disconnect your Phone.
Install the FlashTool, then Start the LGFlashTool.exe from the LG Flash Tool 1.2. Then Select Manual Mode, choose the DLL and add your AP.bin and CP.fls. Press OK. Goto the COMConnector Button and Choose the Port 1. OK. Click on the Arrowbutton , the Program will be ready. Connect your Phone in S/W Mode now to the PC. Use the Smartflash Tool, bring your Phone Back to S/W, start Smartflash and connect your phone. Goto the Register Rom Copy D/L under CP Bin use the *.fls binary. Click the Button "Start" now the Smartflash flash´s the Baseband new.
Now Your Phone is NEW.
---------------------------------------------------------------
My Smartphone is Permantently Bricked, bootloop, flashtool can´t flash anything(but i have used it correctly), Kernel Error or anything else
----------- The Third Methode-------------

You need the OAMP TOOL, download it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1937574&stc=1&d=1367763391
Now unplug your Batterie from the Phone, and connect it via USB to the PC. Now he will install the Driver, make it manual and choose the Driver from the folder usb_drv_windows, includes in the Package your downloaded.
So now if you have installed the Driver, start the "start_fastboot.bat". Choose your Phone and press the Button on your keyboard, the Tool will bring your Device to the Fastboot mode, if its write to start the mode "Pls wait 5 secondes " is now in the Screen read. Follow Third Methode, but hold your vol up button permanetly , this will bring your Phone to the S/W Mode.
----------------------- Nothing goes, i think my Device is Bricked permantenly, fastboot can find any partitions or any thing else--------------------------
After i had this Problem, i fixxed it. So start Omap, choose your device. Hold permanently your Vol up button, plugg the Cable to usb and insert the Batterie. Omap brings your phone back to S/W.
Now flash your Stock Image with FlashTool, maybe 3 Times.
It works for me
----------- Other Mode KDZ_FW_UPD ---------------
i have forgot to tell you this mode. For this you need the KDZ File.
Download http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1949514&stc=1&d=1368135582
Its the same methode with the LG Mobile Support Tool, but offline.
Bring your Phone to S/W Mode and connect it to the PC.
First you have to edit your hosts file. Open it and insert this 127.0.0.1 csmg.lgmobile.com

Hi,
How do I get the binary files?
Also, the SFT.rar file is asking for a password.
If I have the KDZ, .bin and .fls files, i can use this method to upgrade to later version of software as well ( I am on V10C on P725, I can use this method to upgrade to V10F as well)
please help.
schubeir
ok if you read the Guide you find
The SmartFlash Tool http://hotfile.com/dl/143853325/ed430ad/SFT.rar.html Password [email protected] <<<<<< Passwort
the Binary files are from the KDZ, you musst extract them with LG Extract Tool
you can Use SFT or LG Faslhtool to flash you binarys.
If You have only the KDZ Use KDZ_UP......
Good Job !!!

Also, I tried the smartflash tool, selecting the ap and cp. At the ending, appears a mesage "Magic number doesn't concide".
And finally, I tried the "Normal web upgrade test". This one looked as my phone would return to life, but not...
In any of methods I could turn on the phone. I don't know what I can do know. I am very, very afraid...

The method didn't work for me... I don't know why, I don't know what else more I can do... If you have a light for me, please...
Thanks!

My guide is similar to the Resurrection guide which supports 3D MAX, the difference is that I've added some different steps and a slightly different method.
My phone is a 3D MAX, a P725.
Tx!

oh guys...............
so you have a magic number ........ strange, there is only the error if you have a wrong version
you have to download the LGP720AT-00-V10e-EUR-XXX-JUL-17-2012+0_AP this is for the P720/P725 alias 3D MAX
Success!
Hey people! I got success! After many days trying, I unbricked my phone! I will tell you what I did.
- My phone is a P725. I don’t know exactly where is it from. This information (P725) was very important for me in the unbricking process.
- I used the LG Flash Tool 1.3.77.21 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=984864&d=1333650043).
- Now, the two cheats that helped me to unbrick my phone:
1st: I didn’t use the .dll from the first page of this post, and I didn’t use the .dll, .bin and .fls extracted from the KDZ gotten from the IMEI of the phone. They didn’t work for me. I googled for these files for P725AT, which was the model that LG Flash Tool was telling me that is my phone. I found the following files:
http://freakshare.com/files/e6xssy95/BIN_LGP725AT-00-V10b-ARB-XXX-MAY-08-2012-0.zip.html
http://uploaded.net/file/v6orqts2
2nd: At the flashing process, there is a pause at 80% telling that the phone will reset. In some cases, the reset really occurs, but in my case, the reset didn’t occur. A lot of errors appeared (see the image), but no problem. I just turned on my phone, and BINGO! It was working again.
It’s important to tell that I had to put my phone in download mode using the OMAP TOOL, that can be found in the first page of this post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1937574&stc=1&d=1367763391). Don’t forget to change the LG USB COM Port to 41.
That is my history! I hope that this help someone. I would like to thank everybody who wrote about the brick of this phone (MasterTobi, Karim Kahale, Eklovya Dutta [I'm not certain of how to link for them, sorry!] and anybody else), I believe that is one of the worsts bricks in smartphones…
Good luck for all!
EDIT:
I forgot to tell: all the process was made in a Windows 8 64 bit. It gave me some difficults to install all the drivers, but it is possible, Google it and found how to.

[UNROOT] Return to Factory Stock - AT&T LG G3

UNROOT METHOD FOR AT&T LG G3
So you messed around with your G3 too much and broke something... or do you need to return it or send it in for service. In either case, you may need to un-root and restore the phone to factory settings.
Follow the instructions below to get your phone back to stock.
How to un-root the LG G3 on AT&T
1. Download all four files
Driver
LG Flash Tool
.DLL
.TOT
Mirror of above files - Thanks to clsA
***If anyone is interested in mirroring the above files... please do so and post the links and I will update the OP***
2. Install LG United mobile driver
3. Install LG FlashTool using instructions in zip folder
4. Unzip LG850AT-V10d.zip and LGD850_20140613_LGFLASHv160_DLL.zip in to a new folder
5. Turn of your phone
6. Using a USB 2.0 Port, plug one end in to PC
7. Hold the Volume Up key and plug USB cable in to phone - this will put your phone in to download mode.
8. Open Device manager and scroll down to Ports
9. Click on Ports and right click LGE Mobile USB Serial Port
10. Select properties - go to Port Settings Tab and click on Advanced
11. Change COM Port to COM41 - Click OK and Close device manager
12. Go to LG Flash tool and run as administrator
13. Select Manual Mode and browse to the folder you extracted the files to and select the .dll and .tot you downloaded
and unzipped in item 4 and place in corresponding box. dll in dll box and .tot in S/W box
14. Click OK
15. Click Yellow arrow to begin
16. When the Port 1 (COM41) box is ready, unplug USB cable from phone, wait 5 seconds and plug cable back in to phone.
17. The process will take up to 45 Min (Mine took 2594 sec)
18. When you see a large 3 on the screen - unplug phone, pull battery and reboot
At this point your phone is un-rooted and restored to factory settings.
19. Once you reboot - go to settings, backup and restore, and hit reset to perform a factory reset. (Optional)
20. Download root checker and run to confirm you no longer have root (Optional)

Click to collapse
To Confirm that you have no Rooted flag in the service menu, follow the instructions below
To check:
1. Go to dialer
2. enter 3845#*850#
3. Scroll to and click on LG RCT
4. click Display Results
Here you will see that it shows the device is rooted

WARNINGS & DISCLAIMERS
Proceed with caution and at your own risk - I am not responsible if your phone self destructs, gets bricked, or melts.
Please keep in mind that both these methods will yield ROOT only - as of know there is no way to unlock bootloader on AT&T
Rooting and any other modifications to your phone will void your warranty - do not root if you do not know what you are doing.
Rooted devices will not be able to receive OTA updates. You may have to unroot and restore stock in order to accept updates.
FAQ:
Q. Will this reset my root counter in the hidden settings menu?
A. Based On my experience - YES - After restoring using this method the root counter showed NO ROOT and the Root Checker app from the market also showed Not Rooted.
Q. When I tried to follow the above method I get a "Can't change to download mode" error referencing "Error 00000064"
A. I experienced this several times when attempting to un-root using a USB 3.0 port. Connect the phone using a USB 2.0 port preferably connected directly to the computer - and make sure the phone is already in download mode. Occasional you may need to unplug the USB cable from your phone for a couple of seconds and reconnect to get the process started.
Reserved 2
Don't need it now and hopefully won't, but if I do this is where I'm headed. Thanks man.
Had to do this for a boot loop I induced trying to remove CarrierIQ. I was following the thread from the general section which has all this information but spread out through the thread. Very simple. Nice to have all the links to the ATT specific stuff so thanks for posting this thread. Would have saved me 40+ minutes of searching around.
I followed the guide but every time I am at Step 15, process fails with message "Can't change to download mode" 00000064. I am still able to get to download mode and do the steps again and again but it doesn't get past this same error message and fails.
I did a factory reset before running the flasher tool. After a couple of failed attempts, I enabled "usb debugging" thinking that might have to do something with the reset process. Still no go ...
Any suggestions? or solutions? Thanks.
Having this same issue. Driving me crazy >.<

USB 2.0 with OEM cable and Windows 8 machine. So no USB 3.0 here. I am trying to arrange a windows 7 machine. I read somewhere around here that LG drivers don't play well with Windows 8/8.1 so thought its worth a try.

Followed this sequence too. Still same. Can't change to download mode. This time around it didn't show "00000064". But hey thanks for suggestion. :good:
Finally I was able to get a computer running windows 7. I setup the machine with fresh download and installation of drivers and tools. Reset process went through without a hitch. It took 277 sec for the entire flash process to complete. I verified the root counter in LG RCT menu and its says "Not Rooted" now. All traces of root gone. Time to box it up and send it to the new owner

[ROM][GUIDE] LG Optimus Zone 3 (LG VS425PP) Stock 5.1.1 Firmware & Restoration

LG OPTIMUS ZONE 3 - UNBRICKING GUIDE AND 5.1.1 FACTORY FIRMWARE
This guide has two main objectives: (1) for those with a bricked device who want to restore to the latest factory firmware image; and (2) those who need .kdz Stock 5.1.1 Factory Firmware files.
1. UNBRICKING THE LGVS425PP:
The Verizon LGVS425PP comes, pre-installed on the device, a Windows compatible LG Software Upgrade and Repair utility. When connected via micro USB cable, your device will connect to your PC as an installer and, if you look in your PC directory, you will see an installation directory for the Verizon LG utility. Inside that directory is an .exe file that will install the upgrade/repair utility on your PC. When launched, the utility will auto detect your device, determine if a firmware update is available, and give you an option to repair your device. The repair option will backup your existing userdata (depending on the level of damage to the firmware), download the most recent firmware build for your device, and flash your device to complete stock condition.
Of course, there are those who bricked their devices before being able to install the Verizon LG Upgrade/Repair utility on their PCs. And this utility appears difficult to locate for download on the internet. So, below is a download link for the utility:
DOWNLOAD LINK
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B1Sfod4HWfk2elpGQ3JEbzF4Q0E?usp=sharing
The Verizon LG utility should install the correct USB mobile drivers on your PC. But just in case any driver issues arise, download and install the following LG United Mobile Driver package:
DOWNLOAD LINK
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1Sfod4HWfk2RHY2c29mTWg1Rkk/view?usp=sharing
Once the utility is launched, make sure your PC is connected to the internet, put your device in download mode by holding +Volume while connecting your micro USB cable for your PC connection. The utility will then detect your device. Select the REPAIR option and follow the on-screen instructions.
2. STOCK 5.1.1 FACTORY FIRMWARE
The following link is for four software versions of stock 5.1.1 Factory Firmware .kdz files for the Optimus Zone 3: VS425PP2, VS425PP4, VS425PP7 & VS425PP8. Also in the link is the LG United Mobile Driver, the LG-UP flashing tool, and the LG-UP .DLL for the VS425PP. Use these tools at your own risk. I am not responsible for bricked or inoperable devices. I want to thank each and every member in this thread who has tested and reported their findings and issues. That narrows it down greatly. And thanks guys for your patience.
As to rooting the Zone 3, several recent advancements have been achieved and full root access is now possible. Thanks to @Astr4y4L, a comprehensive root package is available for download. http://astrayalslanding.dynu.net:88/Android_Development/ Click on this link and scroll down the the bottom and click the projects link. His package includes precise instructions and alI the files you will need to root this phone. I am currently drafting a concise tutorial for downgrading this phone. Instructions for downgrading can be found within this thread, albeit somewhat scattered. I will update the OP accordingly as further progress is made. Guys, please be sure to thank @Astr4y4L for his unceasing hard work and development on this device. If you like his work and benefit from it, donations are always nice, even if just a couple bucks.

I was attempting to test this on a phone i purchased just yesterday. The about phone section identifies this phone as a vs425pp but under the battery it's identified as a VS425LPP.
The drivers install successfully. The LGUP and LGUP .dll install fine. But when i start LGUP i get an error saying that it can't load the model. looks like i can't attach a picture probably because i'm new but i do have screencaps. I've tried it on my laptop where i do most of my android stuff and on my desktop, same problem on both. According to the LG Mobile Support Tool this one has VS245PP5 installed.
LGUP will start without the phone connected telling me there is no compatible handset attached and then show me a com window. But when i connect the phone it throws the same error and exits.
I must be the biggest idiot, because I cannot figure out how to get into download mode - I power off the device, then while holding the power and volume up key I plug in the usb cord from the Computer. I get the buzzing on the phone, the Verizon logo comes up, and i'm on the home screen. What am I doing wrong?

ok, apparently, that's the restore function, not the download mode - I can't seem to figure out the combo of buttons for the download mode - as above, I go volume up and power then when it vibrates I plug it in?? any suggestions??

With your device connected go to Device Manager. Look under Portable Devices, Ports and Com's, etc and look for LGE notations of your device. If you see a yellow question mark by any of the LGE notations, your issue is drivers.

The initial solution was to reinstall the drivers, did not work.
Second solution discovered in reference to samsung devices was to delete a registry key called UpperFilters from the WPD section. Did not work.
The third solution i've found involves downloading the Android SDK and installing it.
This last one seems sort of like a nuclear option. But i'm running out of ideas. the MTP and PTP transfer modes install and start correctly when the device is booted normally but when booted into download mode it just goes code 10. I'm working on the third option now but it will take a while to download.

It didn't work. Still code 10. I tried on a third computer, an old Dell laptop running Windows XP. It gave a strange error Code 28 saying something about an invalid service section of the INF. But i think this may be a red herring and actually be caused by Windows Media Player 11 not being installed. I'll have to setup an installation of Windows 7 to try that.
Edit: looks like i'm going to have to give up trying to fix the code 10 error because NONE of the information from google is relevant to this. All the information is for the phone being started normally and being unable to access the MTP file transfer through normal working operation. None of it relates to this "download mode" that LG has implemented. I wish this were easy like my Galaxy Nexus was back in the day.

Yeah tell me about it. The good ol' Nexus days were much simpler. I'm like you....I think its a Red Herring of some sort you are dealing with. Something so obvious and so simple that it is hiding behind a thin wall.
I'm searching right now trying to help too.
Hi MotoJunkie01,
I appreciate you putting together this guide but I have to say that I no further along than everyone else here. Similar to Metalchic I received the "can't load model" error from LGUP. Googling around i found that I was missing the LGUP_common.dll file. Found that and LGUP opened fine and found my device. Tried to flash VS425PP2 kdz got to about 9% and received "Secure device, But Unsecure image" error. And that's as far as i got.
As far as the LG Android MTP driver goes i also receive the code 10 cannot start error but only when the phone is in download mode. Otherwise the driver loads fine when the phone is "booted". I dont know jack about rooting phones and have never done it before. I had this one lying around and thought I'd try it. Hopefully all this helps to narrow down the issue.

Thanks for pointing out the common .dll file. I will edit that in my thread for download. I am not sure on the MTP error. I have two of these Zone 3s lying around and neither gives any type of error on MTP. Almost certainly sounds like a driver related issue though. Im going to uninstall drivers and everything on my end, do factory resets, and reinstall everything and walk back through the process from scratch. See if I can pinpoint the issue.

like roscoemctavish i was able to grab the LGUP_common.dll file and put it into ..\LG Electronics\LGUP\model\common and then LGUP started detecting my phone. It only takes the kdz file type under the Upgrade selection. But like roscoemctavish i ran into the 'unsecured image secured device' error. Still code 10 on the MTP driver but i don't think it's related to this. Maybe though.

OK. So both you guys having the stop at 9% please try this. Rename the VS425PP2 file to the filename VS425PP6. Then flash the .kdz.
For now I'm editing the thread down to unbricking via the Verizon LG utility and I'll give links to the .kdz files. It's back to the drawing board guys. I'm very sorry. Please know that I am working hard on it.

No worries man and I appreciate just having this as a potential option. If it matters I have tried to root my phone with Kingoroot. Of course it fails but the software status has changed to "modified". Current software version is VS425PP5.
I did try changing the filename "VS425PP2_02_ARB00.kdz" to "VS425PP6.kdz" and flashing with the same result (Stops at 9% with unsecure image error). There is a log file in the "\LGUP\model\common\LOG" folder which when opened in notepad produces unreadable text. Let me know if I can provide anything else.
Thanks!
