OK so I got this skyrocket from a friend, but for some reason i cant get rid of his data. I've tried regular factory reset via settings, also I tried flashing the stock ROM with Odin, both seem to work fine, I'm not getting any errors or anything, but when I reboot the phone afterward its still exactly the same, all his apps, accounts, data is still there. I also tried to install cwm via Odin which also said was successful, but then the stock recovery is still on the phone any help would be greatly appreciated, I've had a few sammys in my day so I know my way around Odin / heimdall etc... But this is puzzling

Format/wipe internal sd card. Factory reset won't do that.

Do you have an external card and could that be where the data is stored? Have you wiped that?

Have you tried to format in the internal from your pc.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
I just tried that right now, still no luck. Also a weird thing I noticed is that when I do a factory reset from the settings menu, the stock recovery menu comes up and I have to manually push the factory reset/erase all data option with the vol rockers & power button... usually its automated when done from the actual settings menu.

Idk, seems you've tried everything I can think of. Weird that returning to stock and then formatting internal doesn't work.

seen this issue once b4, determined it was nand write and/or erase failure, I don't think the guy ever did figure it out . no errors were given when using odin or recovery, no matter what he flashed/erased the phone booted up as if he never did anything.

Yea that's what I was thinking, its like the whole system is set to read-only. Some sort of chip failure maybe. Bummer cause the phone looks like brand new, not a scratch or knick on it

I might be wrong but this sounds like what happens when you have a corrupted emmc. If I am right, this is a hardware issue. One quick way to check is to flash the latest official firmware via ODIN. If I am right, either Odin will fail or you will have the exact same ROM you have now even after Odin install.

Can you write to the internal SD once in the Android? For example when you take a photo or download a file does it get saved on the phone? If the answer is yes then it cannot be a hardware issue. Just a permission cluster-fu..
Get a Linux environment ( boot up your PC with a live CD or something) mount the drive use root su/sudo commands to set chmod 777 on the entire mount

it very well could be hw issue, the internal sd card is not the same partition as the system partition, writing successfully to the int sd has no bearing on the nand failure

Yeah I dealt with a guy that had a Hercules with the same issue. Very frustrating because it was the first time I ran into something like that. We couldn't get it flashed with Odin or anything. We gave up on it and I put a bunch of .40 hollow points in it.

Topprospect posted a long complicated thread when he had the super brick. If I remember correctly, it involved some ROM code changes to use external SD card as the primary memory. I don't remember if it worked for him. Maybe worth a shot if all else fails and you really really want to use the phone.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm pretty sure this things fried, luckily its not my primary phone. Anyone know offhand what the manufacturer warranty period is for Samsung? I know HTC is a year, ive sent them phones in the past and they fixed them free of charge as long as it was within a year of the manufacturing date, hopefully Samsung is similar.

Any idea how to get these to go away and keep my files? My actual files are stored on the last sub folder named 0. This always happens whenever I flash a new ROM and it freakin sucks!
I even lost my nandroid backup! This is infuriating! I'm lucky that I only use this for entertainment and nothing important was lost.

Please inform me your recovery version. One of Google result for "/data/.layout_version": http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34231316.
"In Android 4.2 multi user accounts is introduced. The first time you update to 4.2 data of the first account is moved from*/data/media*to*/data/media/0. Let's call this process migration. A file is written in this process as well:*/data/.layout_version*This file is important. It holds information that the migration has been completed and should not take place during other factory resets in the future). But during a factory reset this file is removed. Effectively stating that the migration has not occured, hence the reoccuring migration (data/media/0,*data/media/0/0,data/media/0/0/0*etc) after consecutive factory resets."

But if you are not careful when flashing ROMs, you can end up with extra 0 directories, because custom recoveries do not usually format data/media by default when doing a factory reset. Formatting the internal sdcard, before flashing will fix the multiple 0 directories, which can be a nuisance.
Sent from my GT-P3110 using xda app-developers app
By formatting /data, if recovery can not handle it well, then this problem will be reproduced. You also can reproduce this problem by removing /data/.layout_version  I knew about this problem because my work on dual booting kernel, when CM 10.1 refused to boot. Resolved by "echo -n 2 > /data/.layout_version"

Hi my tablet is experiencing storage issues although I don't have much apps installed... I have moved all the photos, videos, music on my external sd card, removed many games, cleared all the cache and now there is less than 500mb space available which is not allowing me to install new apps or update the existing ones also, my device lags a lot.
Pls suggest me a way to free space I don't know where all my space has vanished, I will also like to inform that I'm running on official 4.1.2 release and the device is not rooted!

Wicked, MOAR, Clean ROM 8, scrosler's stock rooted knoxless ROM, samstock, old & slow's stock root deodex. Although the OP of scrosler's stock rooted knoxless ROM indicates it (or he) does not support safestrap.

I usually just add space to the data partition of the ROM slot. Cache defaults at 300mb, system is unchangeable at 1500mb, and data defaults at 2500mb and i usually bump it up to 3000mb just to make sure i have enough space for app data.
Thanks guys!

brother is your sd card ok
i also experienced the same but after i inserted different card and then again inserted my first card and booted in recovery and wiped cache partition
it worked
if the problem still persists then it might be a hardware problem due to falling or something like that or there is a problem with card slot of the tab
My sdcard is in good condition
what I meant was the system or internal sdcard, it keeps unmounting itself even after fixing permissions...
