Greetings and Whats Up,
I am posting for the first time to ask for help with my SideKick 4G. The WiFi has stopped working completely. When I attempt to turn on the WiFi, the system scans and then shuts the WiFi off. A message of "Unable to Scan Networks", then displays. When I attempt to turn on the WiFi to use the phone as a portable hotspot, it also fails.
I have:
1. Soft reset and Hard reset. - Fail
2. Tried all forms of Keis, from the Keis Mini from Samsung's site (phone not registered), to the first Keis release to the current. (Will not work with your device) - Fail
3. After searching "SideKick 4G WiFi" on all 47 pages on this site and then the "Here are the similar threads", I did install and try WI-FI Lock and WIFI Manager. (now the WiFi just continually scans-off-scans-off)
Any help would be greatly greatly and even greatly appreciated.

Try the one click return to stock hiemdall package, but also make sure to choose pit files so it will repartition all firmware, either that or just run hiemdall or Odin manually.
If this won't work that it is highly likely a hardware issue

Hey, mega thanks for responding. I forgot to write that I did try the heimdall one click and that did not work but I wanted to give it another shot. The application found my device but after rebooting the device, sadly the firmware is still 2.2.1 and FROYO.UVKj2 is still loaded.
There were a few questions about possible errors that came up. At the bottom of the window it says "Flashing Model (3 of 6)".There is a bootloaders option. When I ran the flash again I was going to try, but it said that it could cause permanent damage to the phone. I am unsure what the bootloader does but I live in the country side and without wifi calling, this phone is horrible inside of my home.
Again thanks for the information.

You would also want to flash the bootloaders, but you maybe best off flashing with hiemdall (not the one click) not at a computer so I can't easily link but just Google search for hiemdall and it will bring you to a site (something glass?) Where you will find all the downloads, then maybe watch a YouTube video on how to use (maybe not one where you use command lines as it may be confusing so search youtube hiemfall frontend)
All the needed files are in the one click.tar you downloaded, just extract them, use these files to reparation all

Well, I used the bootloader option and the phone survived and is running with FROYO.UVKG2. Unfortunately, it did not fix the WiFi. WiFi, to connect to my home WiFi, is still cycling on and the off. Mobile AP is still giving a simple Error. The only thing I would add is that I attempted to manually enter my home WiFi information into the phone and it states: "Unable to save the Network".
Many thanks for your help with this phone today and it appears you are right and it may be hardware related. Was a great phone.
Quick update.
I was searching this site for the: ""Unable to save the Network" error and saw this post.

What is a "data image" file?
Lastly, mini Keis will not allow for the update.
Again, thanks for the help.

Perhaps something is not getting deleted properly when you've been trying to go back to stock? Just a thought. Maybe others could shed more light on this than I?
A little more obvious but maybe there is a hardware issue, I've never experience any myself but I hear that this phone was riddled with them during it's first few months.
Just an idea, I do hope that isn't the case, but it is possible. Maybe it keeps shorting or something. Ever spilled something on it? /=
Hey, guys and gals. Thanks for the responses. I think that it must be a hardware problem because today, half way through my shift, it slowly started to work. I was able to first manually enter a WiFi address into the phone and then I checked the Wifi hotspot function and it worked as well. As soon as I pulled into my driveway the phone "chirped" that it was now connected to my home WiFi.
I feel that I may have wasted everyone's time. I am just happy that the phone is working again. My service is with T-Mobile so maybe after the Fall semester begins I will start looking for a new phone.
Again, thanks folks.
Don't worry, that's what this is for any help is help. Nice to hear things are working out now xD

Wasted time naaa man we are here to help the last few sidekick users out that's why we are here
An I think it might have been just some setting that you changed. Happens to me a lot of times
Anyways you should enter into recovery now an go to back up your phone so if it does mess up you can atleast have somewhat of a "save" spot so you can go back an everything will be as it is now

I think today settled that it is a hardware issue because since early yesterday morning the WiFi has not worked. It continues to give the same errors.
"Can Not Scan Networks"
"Can Not Save Networks"
..and a general "Error under Mobile AP" when I attempt to use the phone as a hotspot.
I am very conservative and resist change when it comes to cell phones. My friends pretty much forced me to this phone, because I was still happily walking around New York city with a SideKick LX. Their said I was embarrassing them.
So, last piece of advice. I love having a dedicated keyboard, so what is the next reasonably priced alternative to the SideKick 4G?

Hey Zydrate and anyone who might still be running a Sidekick 4G, I rooted my phone and have moved and deleted a few files under the WiFi folder with no luck.
I was checking out other combination searches on XDA to see if I could find someone with my same error. I found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21507745&postcount=1
I checked the folder and I see that the file: "wpa_supplicant.conf" does exist, but the fix did not work. My question is that I found a few other WiFi folders and I notice two other files. :
\etc\wifi\wifi.conf
\data\misc\wifi\wpa_supplicant.conf
There was a file named "bcm_supp.conf" that used to appear, but does not show anywhere anymore. For the WiFi for the Sidekick, does anyone know what files are needed and where they should be located? Also, since these files appear to be only config files, are they available for downloaded?
Thanks in advance again.

Hi guys,
In December, I started having problems with my WiFi. When I go into Comm Manager and press the WiFi symbol, I get the WinMo6 "spinner" to let me know it is thinking and then nothing.
Since then I've tried 3 or 4 different ROMs and I am still having the same problem. Is it just time for a new phone? Does anyone have any helpful hints or things to try?
Thanks in advance.
I got this exact same problem too....
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? I would really like WiFi back.
I have a similar problem but it will turn on, find the AP but not connect. I have a g-only router ang a b-only router (both unsecured) it will not connect to either, it'll try for a few seconds then stop. I have activate the connect to G router hack in the registry.
from will
As a note, I just turned on the Today Item "Wireless" and WiFi doesn't show up at all. Does that give anyone any clues?
my phone sometimes does this not-connecting-to-available-router-trick, then my usual procedure is to reboot the router.
Sometimes it shows the Icon as connected, but in reality won't even turn on the WiFi, even after a reboot. Then it's a bit more complex... I switch off the AP, then the wireless subsystem, reboot the phone, while it's booting reboot the AP, and THEN activate wireless. This usually shocks it back into sense and it connects just fine. This usually happens after I accidentally use the popup window to control the WiFi, or sometimes randomly. Small problem, but when it happens, pretty annoying...

Yep, sounds just like what happens to me sometimes...
I happened to have same problem with my jasjar for about a year,,,
i started to believe its a hardware problem ...
the thing is i have tried all available ROMS official and not....but sometimes it works most of the times it dowsnt...
well program conflict is not the answer coz even after formatting i still have same problem....
What radio version are you guys using? I think I have 1.18.00. I am using Laurentius26's 2.05.00 ROM.
Guys,
Get a copy of TaskManager and check in the devices tab and check the wlan, also check your services tab.
It is likely that you either
1 Have a bad flash
2 Have a corrupt/unsigned driver
3 A hardware fault
My guess would be 2
Thanks for the response, Beast.

I can stop it and restart it but it doesn't seem to do anything... Any ideas?

ZCF1 is loaded and using WZCSVC.dll.
There are 4 unloaded devices: DSK3, DSK2, COM8 and MIX1.
Thanks for your help as well. I hope we can get to the bottom of this.
mzalan - your problem seems different then jrronimo's.
mzalan's problem seems somewhat like something i experienced 2 days ago - relating to the wpa-tkip fix.
although i think your problem has nothing to do with the router, i think rebooting your phone is what does the trick. am i wrong?
i've made a cab for the wpa fix. after installing it my problems were gone.
give it a try - couldn't hurt.

Yes, you are wrong, I must say. You see, this only happens in the dormitory where stay during weekdays at school. There is one wireless AP there, a small Linksys unit, which only stops working if there are many connections through it(solved, since I limited the number of clients in the DHCP to 10, whit a 30min lease. The tech-man forgot to set a new admin password), or if the flow is too great. My tech-savvy roommate says it dies because the processor is too weak to handle the flow or the many connections, and the firmware hangs, that's why it needs to be reset.
The other thing supporting me is that those are the times when everyone with a laptop in the dorms comes running to me, or just yelling down the corridor for me to "do something about the net". So it can't be my phone only.
The second case, where the icon shows me as connected, however, is only the fault of my phone, but even then the router needs to be turned off before I reboot the phone to sort of "shock WiFi system back into life". Luckily, this does not happen often. But these are the times when everyone keeps asking why there was a drop in the service...

Well, I tried this and it didn't seem to help or hurt. I now see ZCF1: as having the driver wpatkip.dll but loaded or unloaded WiFi doesn't load.
A few times over the weekend, though, it WOULD load up (before I tried the .cab, I think)... but then it would turn itself off. Also, the page in the network settings where you would normally see a list of available access points is just sorta... gone.
sounds like your registry is corrupt. I would format the doc with mtty Task 28 55a and re-flash your rom mate.
That sounds scary but I'm certainly willing to try. The registry doesn't get overwritten when a new image is installed? Eesh.
So... what do I do? heh. I hate to be a noob about it but mtty is not something I've had to deal with before.

Firstly you need to download MTTY, it's floating around this Forum somewhere.
Secondly read the wiki http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Technical
This has details of all commands accseible through MTTY.
Yes the reg should be cleared when flashing, however it requires user input to "Clear Storage" after a flash, and it is possible that the DOC is corrupted.
If you still have questions after searching on MTTY, post back and we'll give more help.
Hey guys,
I've been following XDA-developers for a long time, and would like to return something for all the help the community has provided. I traded my iPhone 4 for a G2X today only to find out that my BB data plan is incompatible -_-. Unwilling to wait until Memorial Day was over (611 closed), I decided to turn on Wi-Fi and tinker with it.
Unfortunately I fell victim to the phone's Wi-Fi's problems. It worked for seconds at startup, then simply stopped. Frustrated, I decided to take manners in my own hands. The evil culprit is T-Mobile's My Account program. Here is how to fix it (root and a $3.99 Market purchase required, no piracy!!)
First follow the directions in this tutorial to root your phone. Its pretty simple. ADVANCED: unrooting method.
Make sure Wi-Fi calling is turned on, as well as 3G/4G (from Mobile networks settings page)
Do a battery pull AFTER you enable the above ^. Wait 1 minute before rebooting your phone.
Wi-Fi should work on its own (although buggy) with these two enabled. If you have 3G/4G, you do not need to do this: for Wi-Fi only users, continue to reboot until you have somewhat of a stable Wi-Fi connection. It's very intermittent but eventually it will work for enough time to download Root Explorer from the market!
Go to the Market and install Root Explorer (purchase required, there may be free ways but I do not know of them and I do not advocate piracy)
Open this app. A popup from Superuser will ask you for permission. Grant it with "Allow"
From Root Explorer, navigate to /system/apps
At the top of the list box click the "Mount R/W" button
Scroll down and look for the following: MyAccount.apk and com.nuance.nmc.sihome (the latter may be named differently but it has a My Account icon)
A box will come up telling you that com.nuance.nmc.sihome has encountered an error. This box will refuse to go away. Simply do a battery pull.
YOUR WI-FI WOES SHOULD BE GONE, and your phone's stability should have improved. Enjoy!
You can download the latest version of My Account from Market now and cease to have problems.

You don't need to do any of this noob stuff if your wifi doesn't connect to your home router or any router for that matter. It's unneccesary and time consuming, not to mention risky since you could "brick" your phone. All you have to do is reboot the phone, simplest way is hold power button and volume up simultaneously, then it should connect, assuming you entered the correct password if router has secure connection.
I just turn wifi off then back on. Works for me.
And stop with the noob stuff the guy just wrote he came from an iPhone to a g2x.
He will figure it out as he goes.

I see two band-aid solutions, a reboot, and a restart...gosh that is advanced.
Verse a solution to fully resolve the problem, and keep it gone. More importantly a possible isolation of the cause.
These super duper pro android interlopers are unapproachable on their savvy solutions. Ummm no
Since the OP says its linked to My account program, and I know on first run it says a newer copy is available, I am going to wonder that many users don't touch it.
So since I am already freshly on a complete reset of everything (erase all date, or hold down volume and power) I am going to try.
1. Full erase reset
2. First thing upadate new version of My Account.
3 Hard restart.
4. See how it reacts
My wifi is decent except sometimes it does clog up and I have to clear buffers and shut down programs to get it to kick up. Start and stop wifi solves nothing on mine.
Anyways its about 10 minutes of time to do, since my phone already is in near out of the box setup.
Sorry but I'm not here to post "noob" stuff. Of course restarting the phone or its wifi radio were part of my first efforts. But the phone's stock software has a bug in which the default My Account program a) causes a DNS issue and b) displays itself twice in Manage Applications. Things work great if you have a working data connection from tmo but if not you will notice that wifi refuses to work on its own. I'm not dumb and by no means am I a noob. I've been following XDA since the days of the Wizard. By the way rooting and deleting useless carrier garbage like the buggy and persistent MyAccount.apk will not brick your phone unless you are careless.
"My Account" from tmo has been nothing but a pain in the ass for me. I froze it using Antek App Manager (a free app). I used the same software to freeze the other garbage that came installed by tmo, and battery and booting issues have greatly improved. Just my 2 cents.
Other stuff I froze include: Car Home, ea games, Zinio reader, AppPack, T-Mobile TV, and wifi calling.
Of course some are big fans of wifi calling but I don't need or use it.

Okay sorry, it causes the HSPA / Wi-Fi switching issue. Could you be any more polite about correcting me? FYI I haven't found any SOLID proof of this. Immediately after removing MyAccount and all of its derivatives from the phone DNS requests worked flawlessly; It's been 9 hours of constant wi-fi only use without issues (NO radio turned on). Prior to removing the app, only IP addresses would be resolved by the browser.

I tried this and got no error lol. What I did was reinstalling MyAccount with the MyAccount.apk in system\app and now my wifi actually works with the Market.
OK so I have had my Transformer for 2 days now and so far it has been little more than a paper weight. I have not been able to download a single app from the market. I've tried everything suggested here (cancel/restart, reboot, etc) with no luck. I have not been able to even update Google Maps or install Flash Player, literally I have not been able to install anything. I've tried stock and rooted plus I cannot get any version of Prime to install (finally got the root and CWM installed). Lastly, since this is a Wifi only device it is important to wireless tether with my cellphone. Two days and I still cannot get it to work, will not even find the device. Only 2 days of ownership and I am completely frustrated with this thing. I really like and want the micro SD capabilities but if I can't resolve this ASAP it will need to go back to the store.
Anyone have any suggestions on what all I can try? Please help!
Sorry, I'm a little busy to look for the direct links.
Just look-for the vanilla NVFlash then add the Prime 1.5 (nvflash version). Dump them together into a folder then run the batch file. Simple !
I just helped two co-workers with their brand-new TFs getting rooted this way.
Maybe 5-10 minutes top.
Make sure you unzip the downloaded Prime file (it becomes 4 files). Read the NVFLASH post and have the USB driver ready.
Thanks man I'll give it a shot here shortly
Good luck.
And if you ever have a need to get back to stock (refund maybe ?), there is a stock-ROM (nvflash version), just as easy to get back.

You don’t have to root or flash with a custom rom to get the basic stuff like Wi-Fi. Everything works out of the box as advertised. If something doesn't then either you are doing something wrong or there is a fault with your device. Did you try connecting to a normal Wireless Router? Honeycomb can not see some types of adhoc networks without installing a patch (i.e created by Windows, this may be applicable to some phones too, however it worked fine with My Galaxy S).

There is a nvflash package w/stock-rom available. Just double-click download.bat then wait a few minutes.

Hi, sometime the problem is in the market. not the device itself. I got similar experience with my HTC device. I've installed many ROMs but the market always screwed. So what I did was, just reset your device, when it asks the Google account, type in your email like this: [email protected] instead of just blablabla or [email protected]

I guess your phone is offering up an adhoc connection, which Android doesn't support out of the box. It should work fine with phones that offer up a true infrastructure hotspot. Personally, I think adhoc networks should die a horrible death, but I appreciate their necessity if that's all your phone can do.
Search for adhoc and you should find a solution to this issue. You can also try PDAnet (tablet) too.

Dave

Ad hoc issue appears to be most relevant.
Market download issues =software issues not hardware. If you do not have any other wifi option then go to McDonald's or Starbucks and try it on their wifi.

Don't know if this helps, But I just discovered that the Transformer doesn't seem to like hidden SSID.
Mine connects fine if the SSID is shown, but once I hide the SSID it said out of range.
My EVO 3D, iPod, TV all work with it hidden.
Does someone know if you can setup the TF to connect with hidden SSID?
Thanks
Thanks for the advice all. I don't have a custom ROM on it yet, just rooted. I can't get the zips to work. Says cannot open (bad). Will try re-downloading for a 5th time and see how goes it. I did figure out the wifi issue on my phone - it was ad hoc as stated and it recognizes my phone now but still won't download apps (says it's downloading but never does). Tried cancelling and restarting several times as well as factory resetting the device. Does the same thing when I connect to my home network as well.

My Wifi network is hidden and I had no issue connecting my TF.
What type of router and what settings does it have?
I am using a NetGear WNDR3700 (802.11-g,n). The TF connects to the 2.4 GHz section over 802.11n.
Is it wise to be playing with recovery images and custom ROMS, if you can't get basic market functionality working?
Clearly before changing your TF from stock, get the market working, this is almost certainly a probem with your Wifi router...
The only problem I am aware of with the Transformers Wifi, is sometimes it does not getting a DHCP address when coming back from sleep (use Static IP), the TW release has this fixed, but the WW does not for some reason, i'm guessing they know 3.2 is incoming soon.
Follow these steps to get the market working:
I don't exactly know what the problem is, but I've had it on a couple of phones before. I do NOT have a googlemail account, so that wasn't the problem.
I deleted all cache/data from the following programs: Market, MarketUpdater, Downloads, Download manager, googleapps (anything that seems relevant)
now first go on a computer, open your gmail via gmail.com, send a mail, edit some contacts, just make sure you do something! Now reboot your eee pad, accept the market policies and see if it works....
If this doesn't fix it, then I have no options left
Update: I ultimately returned my TF (I had already suspected that I didn't receive a new device due to other issues and packaging). I received the new TF yesterday (A+ to Amazon.com). The new TF was 1000x better. Loaded right up, connected, market apps loaded easily, quickly and on the first try. All in all I am pleased. And the root and ROM installs worked flawlessly. Actually enjoying my TF now. Thanks all for the advice and help!

All the WiFi at my work are hidden and there at least 8 people with TFs here. Mostly Prime but some stock. None of us EVER had problem with hidden SSID.
At home my two WiFi are hidden. No problem.

I am running a Belkin N750DB, (WPA2 encryption)
Every other thing in my house works fine, hidden. I changed from a ASUS 300N router that was running same encryption WPA2 with no problem on the TF. I have check and doubled checked settings.
Stumped
Also have it set on 2.4 GHz over 802.11n
I also had a issue with the wifi connection on my first unit. Its would pause/stall all the time in the interent browser and market would give me connection error messages. Now Im on my third one and it has a bright stop on the screen but the internet works great.
Hello everyone,
Just got a new LG Optimus One.
I'm having trouble connecting to Android Market, I get the following error message.
"A network error has occurred. retry or cancel and return to the previous screen" and some other times it comes up with another error message ""No connection" (text) "Retry" (button)"
I can connect to the internet via the phones built-in web browser so it's not a network issue and the android market works when I'm connected to a WiFi access point.
What do you think I could do to fix this problem.
Kind Regards,
dmk0

I can't test it, as I only have 3G and WiFi. I read it somewhere that's why I posted. And as he said Market works on WiFi. It is obvious right?
Edit: I was right, Market does not work on GPRS. 2G is too slow for Market

I'm off home to my native for the past 3days ..its a small town --no 3G nor wifi here!! n my damn fckin fone is pissing me giving problems exactly as u stated ..everything was five until I was using 3g but now don't know why but connection keeps getting timed out in market ..( I'm able to download from browser)..

Market version 2.3.x (old market) works on 2G/EDGE. New Market (3.0) does not work on 2G/EDGE.
Not sure if I should put this in a new thread or continue it here because my problem got worse.
I decided to do a factory reset of the phone and it ended up making things worse.
Now the inbuilt web browser works but none of the applications worked with the internet connection. I tried android market, gmail and youtube apps and none of them worked. Where as gmail email app worked before.
When I try to enter Username and Password for the gmail account (I wait for a few minutes with the waiting message "Your phone needs to communicate with Google's servers..." Once that's finished thinking I get the following error message "Can't Establish a reliable data connection to the server. This could be a temporary problem or your phone may not be provisioned for data services. If it continues, call Customer Care.".
I'm in 3G mode all the time (with three and sometimes four bars). Sometimes in a mode called "E" which I suppose is Edge and I've been trying all night and haven't had any luck.
I might bite the bullet and call customer care to try and help me but with my previous experience I don't expect they can offer me much help other than returning my phone and asking for a new one. My professional experience with phones tells me there shouldn't be a fault but I cannot put myself to fault. There must be something fishy going on with this phone.
EDIT: (Additional Info) When I try to connect to the Weather I also get the error message "Weather service is temporarily unavailable." Just after I tried the web browser and google loads up fine.
Market 3.4.4 work 2g/edge but when 2g speed is very slow it gives same error i also have this problem but this is not the problem of market it is the problem of speed because sometime 2g speed is very slow i from india in which 2g speed very slow so sometime market give the error.
problem solved!
i had this same problem on my coby kyros tablet. it doesn't have any connection other than wifi, and i could browse the web, but not connect to the market.
after trying a few different things i noticed the time was way off, and went to fix it, then realized that some how the date had been changed to jan, 27th, 2011. i changed the date, time, and time zone, and the market started working perfectly.
DOUBLE CHECK YOU TIME, DATE, AND TIME ZONE!
get your old market back!!!

i had also this problem.....
just try again in MORNING (6:00 AM) ....
really it will work...as congestion is minimum in morning ...
I got the phone from Virgin Mobile with there settings preconfigured. It's VM branded too.
I re-entered APN and mysteriously it worked, sad thing is the APN I entered was exactly the same except I changed two of the characters from lowercase to uppercase.

Hi,
I selected "forget" on one of my home wifi networks and there's nothing I can do to restore it back.
My phone: Atrix 2 ATT running stock 2.3.6
Thanks for any help
Manually re-entering the info is the only way. Once it "forgets" it forgets.

Tried that, it did not help. I can see a new network with that name but there is no signal
From other devices I can see and use the network.

Try a factory reset. I know it is a PIA, but most of the time, that fixes a lot of these oddities.
(1) Try *#*#4636#*#* then go to Wifi API, choose enableNetwork and enter SSID manually.
(2) Change some parameter of the wifi network (since this is your home network I assume it is under your control), last option being the SSID itself, but the pain is, you may have to update all your other devices.

WOW, that might be a painful way to go... try the factory reset before you go to all that trouble. I know it will be painful if I had to make a change to my SSID or anything that major on my netowrk, I would have to change my firewalls as well (2 checkpoint firewall one servers on 2 Sun ultra 10 servers). I know that is not typical, but even anyone who has more than 3-5 devices might regret having to go to each device and changing thier settings just to get thier phone back to seeing the wifi. when and factory reset should fix it.

Thank you all guys. My senses tell me that factory reset should do the job but since the ICS update is so close, I will save the trouble and wait for it, assuming it should work as well.
Just wanted to update everyone. I went on vacation and have connected to many different networks. When I can back, my lost network popped again on my device. My guess is it was hidden inside an internal queue, and once that queue overflowed it popped again.
Perhaps you can try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51180156&postcount=2
This works on my I337 NI1 Unlocked Rooted. I uses ES Explorer with Root Explorer enabled.
I went to the "system " folder in the device, scrolled down until I found "build prop" then edited using ES Explorer Note Editor.
Greatly appreciated and high credit to dajumper's work !!

If you look at the post directly above yours you'll see that this was fixed over two years ago. Also, the link you posted is either dead or incorrect as it just goes to "404: page not found". That's not even to mention that this is the forum for the Motorola Atrix 2 so your post is in the wrong forum anyway. If you're just trying to get passed your 10 post requirement then please try to do so in a more constructive way. Thanks.
