Are there any recovered because my phones recovery is messed up I can't press any of the options because nothing happens Sent from my Verizon wireless lg lucid 4G
Try clock work mod or TWRP recovery.
TWRP Recovery
Hopefully, someone can answer this...
How can I 'Down grade" my current TWRP? I am running 2.6.0, and when I first started using it, it was fine. Lately, I have had some hangs when booting into recovery (at the blue TWRP screen) and when I hold power it reboots and goes straight into recovery.
So, I wanted to down grade and install an earlier version that is not as buggy.
Thanks.
i guess u should install a custom kernel with the recovery u want..
dun know much about lg.. :/

Please help this newbie out!... I recently rooted my Inspire 4G with attn1's hack kit. That went smooth without issue and I have tried a variety of custom ROMs thanks to this great community, but I have noticed a random issue with booting into ClockworkMod Recovery since... I installed Rom Manager and ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0.0.6 and the problem is that sometimes I can boot into recovery and sometimes not. It only seems to work is the first time I reboot immediately after flashing ClockworkMod, then subsequent reboots the phone just boots normally. (I hold volumn down and press power.) I have also tried installing Amon's Recovery (supersonic 2.3) manually using Fastboot - it seems to install without error but when I try holding the down volume button and hitting power - phone just boots normally. So it seems I am stuck with a ClockworkMod install that does not really work with reliability.... I am lost now trying to figure out why this is happening.
Can someone that has seen similar issues provide some tips/suggestions?

I had the same problem... quit using version 3.0.0.6 and go back to the earliest version, 2.5.1.3 through All ClockworkMod Recoveries. Worked for me.

You don't have 'fast boot' enabled in settings/application? If so it will not really shut off completely and when you power it up with VOL- it will not work.
i'm also having issues getting cwm to work outside the black screen. i have tried sense/ no sense roms and none have been able to bring up cwm outside the blank screen. i am also running 3.0.0.6 or whatever it is but that has not helped my issue

[Q] Clockworkmod recovery not booting up
I have my phone rooted and ready to flash a custom ROM. I want to install android revolution 4g 4.0. I read that I need to ahve CWM version 3.0.0.6 to flash a 2.3 ROM. Anyways, when i select reboot into recovery in ROM Manager, my phone reboots and shows the HTC logo but then it fades to black screen and does nothing. If i press the power button, the phone reboots normally into the OS. Does anyone know how to fix this so i can install a custom ROM?
I have this exact same issue. Although i can load roms from choosing "Install from sd card" i cannot just boot into recovery and install it from there.
I just recently bought my inspire 4g a week ago.
Mine is 2 days old. Now i cant get it to boot up because it keeps trying to boot into CWM recovery but it cant. Its and endless loop.
Mine wont even load recovery. It reboots the phone but then just fades to a black screen. I cant get back into the OS

just press power button and it will reboot your phone.
still stuck doing that too. can get the phone to reboot. but stuck at htc screen or black cwm screen. also checked sd card and is corrupted. i was thinking if i could just flash a new rom over to fix boot issue. but i need some screens to blindly walk through to flash. cwm is 3.0.0.5 if that matters. thanks. on a side note. i think i have a new cm7rc2 build on a formated sd card to try and minimize the guess work on what to click

pull your battery and just turn you phone on without going into Fastboot menu.

Are you saying that your phone shows the white HTC screen then fades to black?
if so, no, it doesn't matter...just press the power button to reboot your phone.
I have my Nexus S 4g rooted and loaded with ClockworkMod 3.1.0.1 But doing the volume down and power method I can't get it to boot into recovery it just boots normal. In Rom manager if I goto boot into recovery it just takes me some other type of thing that is not recovery (looks like a download screen or something).
Any idea's?
Thanks.
Volume up and power is the correct combination.

and it also sounds like you need to reflash your recovery. dont flash it via rom manager, flash it via fastboot so that it sticks.
ya thanks. I just flashed it via fastboot. Booting phone up now and going to make sure I can still get to it manually. Thanks for the help. Just came from an Epic 4G so it's a bit different.
Ok, doesn't seem to be sticking for some reason... I just powered it up and then back down. Tried to boot back into recovery and same issue. Is there something else I need to do? Did forget to mention. After the fastboot method I can boot directly into clockworkmod then. But once I reboot it will not.
[edit]
Actually think I just found the solution... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=856999 Will update if it fixed it. [/edit]
/// EDIT AGAIN
ya that fixed it. I didn't actually follow the steps. Since I knew I could push the recovery if something screwed up I just flashed crynogenmod and no more issues so that must have been it.
Hello all,
I just finally rooted my One S to try and removing the locked hiden APN for tethering on T-Mobile network.
I installed the ClockworkMod recover 5.8.3.1 but have a problem with the way it is running.
This by the way is with the stock rom yet.
But when I turn the device off now while it is plugged in to charge with this recovery it boots back up to the recovery on its own.
Then I have to play with it for a while with the power button to boot back like normal again.
Did I do something wrong or is this a issue with the recovery?
Didn't see a thread for that recovery though to check.
Just tried TWRP and that one seems to charge ok while its off.
Working better and hasn't given any errors.
Just don't look like recognizes the backups from CWM.
I think twrp is the better one, I've tested both for a long time. Reasons for liking twrp
A lot better interface than cwm
When you switch off phone to charge it doesn't boot into recovery auto
There is no trouble mounting sd card in twrp in cwm there is...

yeah, you won't restore a cwm bu with twrp or vice versa
and as k1llacanon mentioned it seems to be the best recovery for the one s atm
I was running Alliance rom and decided I wanted to try a couple different roms. I had previously installed Philz touch recovery 6.48.4 and had no issues with it. So I went into recovery and did the 'clean to install new rom' option and then I installed the Beanstalk 4.4.285 rom and checked it out and then was going to wipe it and try out Paranoid Android 4.45 so I rebooted to recovery again using the script in Rom Toolbox which is how I had been rebooting in to recovery since having installed Philz Touch because it's just simpler than holding the hardware keys. I had never tried booting in to Philz recovery using hardware keys. So anyways once in recovery again I once again do the 'clean to install new rom' option and then I went to flash Paranoid Android and I get a message about (can't remember exactly what it said) root being lost and was asked If I want to (again not sure exactly what it said) push su back to system/xbin and I said yes at which point the phone rebooted and now I can not reenter Philz recovery. I have tried numerous key combos including V+,home, power ; V+,power : V-,Power : V-,home,power ; V-,V+,power, V-,V+,home,power and nothing. It just boots to the Samsung Galaxy SIII screen and sits there. When I tried the V-,Home,power combo I get a screen that reads something like "Warning a custom os can cause critical problems in phone and installed applications. If you want to download a custom OS press the volume up key...." I think that is download mode but not sure. How can I get back in to Philz and or regain root if lost and reflash back to Alliance? Hope I didn't brick it.

I've used philz but only on my tablet. I prefer using terminal emulator to reboot if I need to. And the last part yes that is download mode. You can always try Odin

I figured it out. I feel stupid though. I was really freaking out hoping I didn't brick my phone, couldn't you just hear the panic in my post. The first key combo I used to boot recovery was correct I just wasn't doing it right. I was pressing V+,home, power and waiting for the samsung logo before letting go and that's why it wasn't working. But I found out the correct method is to hold down V+ and home then hold down power also and wait for the phone to vibarate then let go of the power button but continue to hold down V+ and home until recovery boots.
I was about ready to try reflashing recovery via odin but I was a bit concerned about a few things when it comes to that. If I do need to use odin in the future is there a specific version I should use for the S3. I downloaded Odin3 v3.07 and also have 1.85. I know your phone needs to be in download mode to use it, so now I know how to boot to download mode at least. My bootloader is unlocked and I was wondering if using odin would lock it or affect that in anyway or have any other type of ill effect on my phone?

Hi,
just got time to update my 2nd XT925 to KK (RSD'd back from CM11 JBBL to stock SFR rom, let the phone find its update and apply it, everything went fine).
But whatever KK recovery I try to flash, it gives me an exclamation mark and nothing else (I'm unlocked, yes).
Don't know what's happening here. Can someone helps please ?

Are you saying you are trying to flash a recovery or are you trying to GET to the stock recovery? If you are trying to get to the stock recovery, the key presses to get to it have changed.
Your best bet is to power off your phone. Then, press and hold power+vol up for a few seconds until you see the menu come up. Then, press vol down to highlight Recovery and then press the vol up button.
Eventually, you'll see the "Dead Andy". From there, press and hold vol down+vol up+power. You might have to do it a couple of times. Eventually, you'll be in the recovery but for the XT926, it's kind of hard to read because for some reason, they decided to make it dim.
No (but thanks anyway). What I tried to was only to install a KK recovery for CM11.
I successed but I had 2 problems mixed: the 1st one was that the Linux version of fastboot (or mfastboot) did'nt work with the new bootloader. Both were complaining about "(bootloader) Variable not supported! ". Had to find some old laptop with Windows installed to use it to flash the recovery without error.
But even then if I just let the phone reboot, I would'nt get the new recovery (just the stock one after the keypress you speak about). I had to go straight from bootloader screen to the recovery (by manually rebooting) to get it work. Looks like the standard boot just restored the stock recovery each time I tried.
Thanks anyway, it's working now.

Variable not supported comes up under some Windows, but it usually still works.
You never go straight to the bootloader when you reboot. You have to reboot the phone (or turn it off first) and then press and hold vol up+power. Then, from there, you use vol down to select recovery and then press vol up.
It never boots directly into the recovery unless you tell it to via an ADB command or from within a custom ROM that allows it.
Keep in mind, the stock recovery will override the custom recovery if you don't immediately boot back into recovery. Flash recovery, when that's done, press power to shutdown, and use the method Bolski described to boot into recovery.

Let me see if i undestood.
You say that if you don't boot right into recovery, the stock one will overwrite CWM/TWRP. So i understand that, after very reboot you must reflash recovery if you want to use it again.
Or am I missing something?

It won't reflash every time. You only need to boot straight into recovery the first time, so that the update binary completes. After the first time, you'll be good.

I think this may be the problem I am having. I cant get my 926 to boot to recovery from fastboot after I load CWM recovery. Is there some trick?
