I tried to update my G2x yesterday via the LG updater tool. Long story short, it froze on the S/W Updating screen and neither T-Mo or LG support could assist in getting it fixed.
I read that it was pretty hard to brick the G2x so I decided to give it an all out effort to resurrect it, especially after the T-Mobile tier two tech support told me there was nothing that could be done, if what he had tried didn't work, the phone was toast. I am just a woman who is more technical than the average woman my age, but I don't mod my phones much in general. I tweak.
I will list what all I have tried, as much in order as I can recall since starting this Friday at noon, don't laugh! (oh the phone is currently working, only 3g and with this Wind ancient looking version)
Flashed CWM on phone (tried all versions at some point in the process)
Totally cleared phone
Tried KDZ_FW_UPD_EN.exe to flash V21E_00 and V21Y_00 Neither would work
Flashed Cyanogenmod 7.1.0.1 Worked, looked beautiful, wifi but no cell service, no baseband, no IMEI
Flashed kdz WIND V11h - everything working but only at 3g
I thought if I got back to something that would put back in a baseband and my IMEI, I could find my way back to the most current update. I can't seem to flash anything new though.
I've tried this :http://forum.xda-developers.com/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=1149
and this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25321356
Both awesome and helpful posts but I can't get anything other than this V11h!!
Help! And thanks! And I am sorry if this seems ridiculously easy, I think my brain quit working about 6 hours ago!
Oh, my question is, how do I go about getting it at least back to where it was? (Never updated from stock, March of 2011)

I'm by no means an expert -- an advanced amateur, maybe -- but I'll do my best.
What exactly were you trying to update when you bricked the phone? You said you were using the LG updater tool, but what exactly were you trying to do? Was your phone already rooted prior to the attempted update? Had you made any modifications to your phone or were you running stock? That may help us get to the root of your problem.
Are you still able to get into the S/W update screen using the directions in the PDF you attached? (Ie: if you remove the battery, hold both volume buttons, and then plug in the USB, does your phone turn on and go into software update mode?) If you can get it into this mode, you should be able to flash the stock TMobile ROM using NVFlasher as in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
This may get you back to step one, and you can try again. Or maybe at that point, someone more knowledgeable will come around with better advice.
Good luck.
Thanks for your quick reply!
I was trying to uh...update to 2.3.4 Gingerbread to hopefully help resolve some minor but longstanding issues I had had with my phone. Mainly, the random reboot and powering off I was really getting sick of.
My phone was not rooted prior to this. I was running stock.
Yes, I can still get into the S/W updater screen following the instructions in the .pdf I posted.
And funny you should post this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1056847
That is where I originally started when my phone first froze. I have tried to flash to stock using the NV flasher right before I posted the original question. It didn't do a thing and that's when I threw my hands up and decided I needed help!

heh... I can totally relate to throwing your hands up. I just started tinkering with my phone a couple of months ago, and the first night, I spent from 10:00pm until about 5:00am just trying to get Cyanogenmod installed. It was frustrating, but after a lot of reading and re-trying, I finally got it to work.
Okay, when you run NVFlasher, do you get any messages at all? Once you click one of the buttons to flash the phone, I believe a DOS window should popup showing you the status of the flash, whether there are errors while flashing or if it completed successfully. If there are errors, be sure you have the proper APX driver installed, which should be included with the NVFlasher package. What OS are you using on your PC? Windows XP? 7? When you have the phone plugged into the USB and the S/W update screen is showing, you should see "'NVIDIA USB Boot-recovery" listed in your windows device manager.
lol...10pm to 5am eh? Sounds like me, I was (sounds crazy) noon Friday until 2am Sat and started up again around 9am and well...here I sit at 3 am my time, with a few breaks thrown in!
When I run NV flasher, it all goes smoothly. It looks totally complete, no errors. And I am familiar with the errors, the first few hours I had nothing but errors and dead ends. I have the proper APX driver for sure, I thankfully, run XP on this computer. And yes to the "'NVIDIA USB Boot-recovery" listed in your windows device manager. "
Scratching your head like me? I don't want to do Cyanogenmod again, which is what I am tempted to do, thinking now that I have the baseband back, the cell phone service would work. I really just want my phone back the way it was, albeit, updated..ok, so not exactly the way it was!
Currently on phone, so no links. But in other lg device forum on xda there is the "offline updater method" of kdz flashing. It tricks lg updater into using a custom kdz and not to check online. Look for v21y.kdz and use that. Its 2.3.4.
If you can get it working with the old wind mobile rom all you have to do is use the official lg tool from their website and it will update to the latest version for you I had the same problems you are talking about and the only thing I could get to work was the lg offline update tool and flashing the old wind mobile rom after i got that working just went to lg and used their program and it updated me to new baseband an 2.3.4.

This is what you will have to do. It took me a while to figure it out. But when you have the programs and files you need all downloaded and setup it works without being online. It worked for me once I figured it out. I had to read it a few times and do some searching for all the files but they are out there. If you do not find them via this site Google it. Good luck.

Awesome! What finally worked for you?
Hmmm...can I even remember?? My brain is still swimming in downloads and error messages!
I had tried the offline updater earlier, but the "Automatic Offline Procedure.vbs" file never would load, I kept getting an error on line 25. I downloaded it all again from other links, and this time I thought it would go through but I kept getting an error at line 70 something.
I finally read "instruction.docx" (the steps that the vbs file was going to have me follow) lol
I turned the windows enabler to the ON position.
I also disabled my LG modem first as I had read that on the .pdf file I posted earlier and it had allowed me to get Wind on there.
I disabled my firewall and anti virus temporarily also.
I opened the UpTestEX_mod2_marwin.exe set it to "3GQCT" and "EMERGENCY" and chose the V21y kdz
I hit "Normal web upgrade test"
Then start upgrade or something and the LG updater tool opened, it found my phone, I think I pressed Start upgrade or whatever again, waited, held my breath too long, passed out, woke up VOILA! DONE!
That is a VERY rough translation of what I did, I have had so many trial and error attempts and variations of settings, files etc, that I don't know what really finally worked! But thank you for your encouragement last night, because I was really about to give up for good (thus the last ditch "when all else fails ASK for help" post) and throw not only my hands up, but the phone across the room!
Now I am finally getting around to re loading my apps and all my settings, ringtones, etc etc etc. I don't know if I now love or hate my G2x!
Thanks to everyone for their replies! And everyone else who posts here and helps so many novices like me!
Glad to hear your back up and running.

I have literally tried everything I could possibly think of to get v11h updated to v21e or even v21y and nothing is working for me. I am stuck at the part where the phone begins to update, but disconnects at param(5) and then fails after that. I have tried every method and tutorial that I could find and I am still searching. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks!

What does "disabling the LG modem" mean?
I have a Wind P999 phone with the V11h base band. Of course, the LG updater tool says that I have the latest baseband.
I tried updating using the KDZ tool but that did not work. for me.
I tried pushing a T-mobile Stock Rom too. It did not updated the baseband. LG tool still says I have the latest update.
I have also tried the hack of using the LG Updated with a local shttp server. But even then, when I pressed the "Normal web upgrade test" and "Start update" nothing happens.
Am I supposed to get some feedback while the upgrade happens? How long does this process take?
I am using Window 7 Ultimate 64-bit. All antivirus disabled.
Anything else I could try?
BTW, I have been able to revive a bricked p999 T-Mobile phone that I got from Ebay. it has the stock T-MObile Rom with the March 2012 baseband and software version v21y. This Wind phone is just testing me
Someone please please help me. I am in desperate need of a solution. And before I lay out the issue I am having, I would like to thank everyone for taking their time to read through my post and give their input. I truly appreciate it everybody. Much much thanks.
Just as a disclaimer, I've looked all over the internet, everywhere I can possibly find for days on end, and none of what I found worked for me. It feels like I tried everything there could be, and that is why I am coming here. Again, thank you.
So here's a little background information: I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 (SCH-I545). I got the phone over the summer, and as soon as I received the phone I was updated to the apparently dreadful VRUMAE7 update. There afterwards, I tried rooting the phone. I've had rooting experience before with decent success, and never ran into problems like I did. It took awhile for me root my S4, but after awhile I was able to successfully root it. Although, I'm pretty sure I may have done something wrong. You will see why shortly.
So a week or two back, my S4 prompted me to update to the next update. I believe it was Android 4.3 (VRUEMJ7). I was very excited for the update and tried running it. But every time I accepted the update and tried updating, my phone went into Recovery to download the new update and stalled out with an error. Thereafter I would have to reboot the phone to get it working again. After failing to update multiple times, I realized that it is probably because I messed up my root. So without doing much research, I simply tried flashing the stock firmware that came with my phone thinking it should work pretty flawlessly.
I have a Mac OS, so using VmWare Fusion with Windows 7, I downloaded Odin and booted up my phone on Recovery mode, downloaded the stock VRUMAE7 firmware I found online, and began flashing. But Odin threw me a error, so I tried rebooting my phone thinking it would go back to normal. BUT this time, it kept going into recovery mode with a yellow Triangle saying firmware was installed incorrectly, etc. I was so frustrated at this point, thinking that I truly may have bricked my phone.
I began on this long journey of going through all the sources I could find online possible, downloading every type of Verizon S4 firmware I can find, trying every Odin method possible, and spending long long hours of the night biting my fingers at my dreadful fate. I even tried flashing the stock PIT File along with my stock firmware, to see if that would fix it. But no luck. I also tried using a standard windows machine rather than VMware, still with no luck.
I ask you all to please suggest any ideas, thoughts, or inputs you possibly can. I am willing to try anything and everything at this point. Please do help. I appreciate you guys reading through my lengthy question, sorry for that. Just wanted to lay everything out.
Thank you very very much.

Hi there,
it seems an easy problem but do it at your own risk I don't take responsibility of bricked device, etc
so lets go with what you need:
A- Odin [I believe you already have it]
B- stock rom go to this site:
androidayos.com/samsung-galaxy-s4-odin-stock-firmware/
and choose the suitable stock rom based on your Baseband version
C- Drivers installed for your device [if your mac/laptop recognizes your device then skip this step if not google it,download the drivers and install them]
IMPORTANT:Make sure you have 80% or more on battery
after you get these stuff install the device drivers as mentions in C then turn your device off and power it while holding volume up it should take you to download.now open odin and navigate it to the rom which you downloaded from B and flash it .wait for green color to appear and your back to your stock now it should open normally hope that I helped
Hello!
I had rooted my phone last week or so using the Motochopper script. I didn't (and don't) know much about rooting and I ended up accepting an OTA update a few days ago or so, losing my root. I ran Motochopper again, but I either get "Failure [Install_Failed_Already_Exists]" or just "Failure." I've tried uninstalling Superuser, but reinstalling it doesn't give me root back. I've tried to use this guide that the search linked me to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1985699
But it requires doing a fastboot. I've installed this program:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
And it seems to work, but I get nothing when I run "fastboot devices" while my phone is connected. I don't know how to boot my phone into fastboot mode - holding the volume down button while booting just puts me into Safe Mode, and not even a Google search seems to reveal how to do one for my phone.
Is there any way I can ever get root access back? Is a factory reset my only option? I apologize if this post/topic is incorrectly done, but I've tried searching high and low through the forums and even asked a question in the Newbie Q&A and have gotten nothing.
Bump. I guess my phone is pretty unpopular.
Bump again. Is there somewhere else where I could ask this question?
Anybody?
Well, whatever. I guess I'll do a factory reset then.
Upon looking it up, I see that doing a factory reset won't affect any issues with rooting because it won't mess with the system files. It seems I'll have to flash the original ROM, but I can't find how to do that for my phone.
Alright, got it. If anyone ever comes across this topic through a google search, follow the directions here:
http://www.lg-phones.org/how-to-flash-unbrick-lg-optimus-f6-back-to-stock.html
And then run Motochopper again after finishing the flash.
Thanks for all your help, guys!
O.M.G. Someone else has this phone! I tried to root for the first time, yesterday. No go. FN update. If I get the chance to try this, I'll be sure to post what happens. Thanks for making this thread.

Yeah, no problem. It seems that if you take the update, you can't root. You'll have to do the flashing thing I put in my last post and just consistently deny the new update. You can do stuff to make it not nag you to update, but the biggest thing is not to take it.
Remember to use Motochopper too.
About the F6 root:
Just now caught this thread.
I've had the F6 for about 2 weeks now. Just getting used to it.
Then the "i" updated came in OTA by itself (sort of)...the standard consumer methods of rooting the phone wouldn't work for me.
That's fine, too, because most of the standard methods use nefarious means of rooting the phone, and should probably be avoided anyway. Several (maybe not MotoChopper) are actually Chinese trojan-ware, which you really don't want.
Most use exploits to trick the phone, and it's ENTIRELY unnecessary.
Use saferoot. This script based routine requires ADB, and if you're in Windows THAT requires the USB drivers for the F6, but you'll want those drivers anyway. Google for downloading ADB by itself. I have ADB because I have the entire development system for Android (and in my case, I use Linux for that).
ADB, if you're not familiar, is the "Android Device Bridge" - software which allows developers to control the phone for development purposes. Using ADB, one can simply ask for root (well, it's more complicated, hence the scripts of saferoot) - but that's what it boils down to. It doesn't use security vulnerabilities to root the device - which LG and the service providers have recently closed anyway.
After the "i" update, saferoot provided a permanent (it seems, anyway) root access to my F6 in about 3 minutes.
The F6 is quite recent, and while it's considered a mid-level product, it's actually quite good. It's recent release date, however, is why you're not yet finding much popularity - it will take a while before sufficient F6's are sold to acquire a following. Give it a few months.
thank you! saferoot worked great! on Metopcs an hoping for a rom soon!
So I've come across a new problem.
I need to flash my phone because of a problem with the Google Play Store. I ran through the instructions on the site I posted - which worked before - but it then asked for the B2CApp to be updated, which I couldn't do through the program.
I then tried to follow the steps on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2085344, but when the phone update began, it hit an error:
20:15:21 : Model.dll load error. Please check model.dll was built Debug mode
20:15:21 : Model.dll must be build Release mode.
20:15:21 : Please check model.dll is correct.

20:15:21 : Page_Error ºÎºÐÀÔ´Ï´Ù
20:15:31 : =======Cancel button click : m_nStep(6)
I have absolutely no idea what the matter is, as I've been able to flash this phone repeatedly before. There's also sharing violations with pictures in C:\ProgramData\LGMOBILEAX\images during the process, but I'm so frustrated with this that I don't want to replicate it now. I can provide the information as necessary.
F6 does not support Fastboot
Time will tell if this phone will ever have an unlocked bootloader. In what little free time I've had to experiment with my Linux box, I've come to the conclusion that the F6 isn't capable of utilizing Fastboot.
There is a TON of information out there, but I will try to educate myself on using ADB/SDK tools to try and find a solution. The downside is the demands on my time can be formidable, so it'll be slow-going (and I'm not a fast reader). Hopefully the XDA community will come through for all of us so we can move forward (Many Thanks in advance for the superior intelligence of all the Devs here !).
For what it's worth, the F6 is a very nice phone in my opinion. Coming from a now 2-year old Samsung Admire, I find the available 1.2GB quite sufficient! The Admire had only 137MB! I also don't live on my phone, and don't need that many apps.
ALRIGHT for the past couple years i've turned to this site for solutions to my android issues and rooting and the such. Recently i wanted to manually update my LG Optimus G E970 to Jellybean because i got a new logic board and it's at 4.0.1 and it's totally booty. (lol rooted old logic board and i gave way too many permissions to 'system' and it went FUBAR)
i'm not going to screw with that device until i know what i'm doing SO i got my Samsung Infuse (currently at 2.2.1) (NOT ROOTED) as my test subject. after 3 hours of frustration with minimal solutions, i figure it's time to dive into this community for some 1 on ..probably 20 Q&A
-= HERE IS WHAT I GOT SO FAR=-
I got ADB working,
device connected
update.zip is acquired (gingerbread as test)
at recovery mode on Samsung
used "./adb push update.zip /mnt/internal_sd/" (on mac but i can 'translate')
-=CURRENT ISSUES=-
after entering the above command, the update.zip is found but i get the "E: verification failed"
found that the System Recovery is 3e (im pretty sure i need 2e so i dont get this error message)
i find it easier to learn when i'm talking to someone rather than reading old posts or stickies.
IM ON A MAC!! i'm limited to what programs i can use. it blows. please keep this in mind.
-=QUESTIONS=-
dafuq does that error message mean?
is there a verified update package by samsung or some shiz?
can i do this without the hassle of Rooting?
need any clarification, feel free to ask and what not. i got nothing better to do, so expect some speedy responses by yours truely.
I'm new to the XDA Forums and even forums in general so if I speak out of place or anything like that I apologize ahead of time. So anyway, where do I start? I'll try to give you the short version. So I bought an LG Stylo 2(model: LG K540) through Cricket the day they came out. It was $170 phone. On the second day of using my new phone I got the bright idea that I'd try and root it BY MYSELF. I knew better but for some reason I had this false burst of confidence & thought I had everything under control. Well, thanks to Kingroot that burst of confidence didn't last long and there I was with a 2 day old phone BRICKED. Reason I never posted on the forums is because I've got a buddy who , in my eyes, knows everything there is to know about Android and thats who I'd normally go to when I wanted to root a phone so he's who I immediately turned to but even he couldn't figure it out. He couldn't help me unless we had the stock firmware or someone with the exact same phone and according to him we could some how use a backup of that phone to fix mine. Cricket just wanted to sell me another phone even though I was standing there with a 2 day old phone and LG just wants me to send the phone in to them, which I have no desire to do. I've searched all over the internet trying to locate the firmware because even I can fix the phone if I had that but nothing. Had hoped by now LG would have released the firmware but at this point who knows when that'll happen. I'd even pay for it at this point. Anyway, just thought I'd give the forum a shot on the off chance someone might be able to help me or point me in the right direction. Oh and if you were wondering what the phone does now, when I turn it on the LG logo appears like it should but then right as it appears you see a message in red lettering that says: BOOT VERIFICATION FAIL!!- CAUSE: MISMATCH_SIG_LEN And it just loops this over & over until you pull the battery out. Please someone help me!

I ran into basically the same situation as you. I'm currently downloading Android open source project on to a fresh install Ubuntu 16.04. I am currently in the middle of running sync.
I'm curious if there is anybody out there who would be willing to give a few pointers, on compiling the ROM from LG open source code. They told me I had to use it in the readme.txt.
Im a noob with fair knowledge of modding and stylo not stylo 2. There's no way to say for sure if this will work but on lg mm on h631 u need to unlock dev option in settings 1st. Make sure to check off oem unlock and usb debugging. Connect to pc and you will get a popup or 2, one will ask to allow pc to connect to phone, the second is to allow usb debugging. After you allow both, open cmd in your adb fastboot folder. Type " adb reboot bootloader." should reboot the phone to bootloader/fastboot mode. Then you type " fastboot oem unlock." you will see sending.. Once sending is done type " fastboot reboot." when the phone restart you should see bootloader unlocked on splash screen. Then i rooted with kingroot. Then use rashr to flash twrp. Then used twrp to flash supersu to get rid of kingroot.. My h631 now in business and i just started working on a port for lg ux 5.0. This is the guild i use for a better idea http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g-stylo/how-to/guide-lg-g-stylo-how-to-root-t-mobile-6-t3333916. You might need lgflashtool and kdz to unbrick..
NO NEED to beg.
I don't know very much but I know $$$ talks and since no one save the few who suggested contacting lg wants to help, Ill try. At the moment I am efforting a solution via the Chinese. I expect to have a working copy in the next 48hrs. when I do, we can arrange for you to get access to the mega.nz cloud and get urs.
say a prayer......

BIN File
Hello, I have a Stylo 2 K540 from cricket, it is having issues with the Wi-Fi, it will not connect to either Wi-Fi or bluetooth, MAC address was set at 02:00:00:00:00 or something like that, I opened the phone and it has humidity sensor active, cleaned the affected area but it seems like it was useless, eventhough I was pretty sure that was not the main problem. I looked for some troubleshooting options and found non of use, firmware is sold for $30 online so it is not an option since I am not certain loading firmware will be of any help. I tried repairing MAC address via Octoplus using other addresses but was useless as well.
I have little to no experience with software on phones, but I like to read and learn. I decided to connect the phone to the computer and "Read full flash" on Octopus, I have created the Bin file, I have a perfectly working phone as well, I was wondering if there is any way to get the KDZ file from the Bin file doing some sort of conversion, or if I could do some sort of fix or workaround with this bin file, I can share it if anybody needs it or if it can be of any use to get the firmware
