I performed a Factory Reset / Wipe and was under the impression this cleared everything off the Xoom that I had added. Upon looking at the /mnt/sdcard folder I see folders of Apps that I had previously installed.
Question
Can the /mnt/sdcard be formatted ? If so how ?
Not super familiar with the whole file system setup so If this is a noob/stupid question could you please explain things for me.

There are two ways that I know of that I personally have done just in the last week or so. First you can unmount the SD card from the Xoom and place it in an Android Cell Phone, and go to settings/storage and from there unmount the card and click reformat SD card. Or you can hook the Xoom up via USB and clear it from within the PC/mac. Hope this helped.

Nope that would be for the micro USB card this is the /mint/sdcard which is part of the internal memory

Fastboot -w wipes all user data including /mnt/sdcard I lost some pictures of my dog because of it
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
The simplest way I know of is thru the Backup/Restore options in CWM, just doing the wipes won't do it. I use the Team Rogue version of CWM tho, i don't remember off hand if it can be done in the other recovery's (i.e. Rom Managers version or the one from solarnz that is most popular).
I just, personally, like the way the menus are laid out with Team Rogue's version and not having like a dozen No's with one Yes when confirming an action, nothing against the others.
Thanks guys I will try the Fastboot -w when at home and able to use it and Team Rogue's Recovery when at work.
Its been awhile but what is the option in Team Rogue recovery I dont see one to wipe the Internal data

Hi guys.
I want to start from scratch regarding my internal SD card (not using external) because I have a lot of junk that just needs to be gone.
I'm running Synergy's latest nightly and am going to flash a Jelly Bean ROM (don't know which yet) right after wiping everything.
So my question is, what do I do to make sure everything is wiped, and my phone still boots? I'm kind of lost.
I usually use CWM to flash, so what do I press in order to do this?
Thanks a lot.
You have to format the internal card with a filw explorer or in a recovery

Understood, but what happens when I try to reboot back into the phone; will it boot normally?
I ditto this question. I'm also curious about formatting my internal card and starting from scratch. I know factory reset from cwm recovery doesn't do it. I'm afraid to just start doing things and bricking this thing. Even though I was told by my cousin who has flashed many phone its very hard to hard brick a Samsung.

Yes it should boot fine. The sd just holds your junk and possible some config info for some apps.

Ok, I'm just going to boot into CWM, Reformat, and Reboot. Hopefully everything goes well.
I'll get back to this topic to tell you how it went.
Ok, reformatting from CWM, then rebooting worked perfectly!
Going on to JB now, thanks for the help everyone.

After reformatting, the rom was still installed right? but all your apps and clutter was gone?
Just curious cause I also did data/factory reset from cwm and all it did was delete the rom and apps but all the stuff left over from the apps and music/photos/videos were still there.

Hey buddy they're talking a little different then just data reset. To erase all that other stuff go into cwm under mounts and storage and click format internal SD card. The ROM will still work but it will erase everything on your internal memory so if you have pictures you want back then up

In all honesty I'm not sure if it will erase settings as well. I don't believe it will but some app settings are stored on the SD card so you may have to sign back into some things.
If you choose to factory reset at the same time then yes you will have to reset everything up.
One thing to keep in mind if you make your backups without selecting external SD card they will ask be erased so you will have no backups
If I helped you in some way.... pass on the favor and help the next person!

Quick question, I just went into cwm recover then mounts and storage and the options are
Format /cache
Format /system
Format /data
Format /preload
Format /sdcard
Would sdcard be the internal sd card?
It sounds like that wipes everything (rom and all) and not just internal sd?

You just want to wipe internal? if you want to be safe, take out your external sdcard, then do format /sdcard . This will wipe your internal sdcard.
Hi all, I am posting this on behalf of my friend who has faced a problem with his Galaxy 3. This is the problem as described by him:
"When I look into settings>storage, it shows that the total space of the internal memory is 0, I can't install any apps and it do a factory reset every boot
here is what I have done to solve this problem:
use odin to flash to stock rom
use heimdall to flash to stock rom
wipe data, factory reset
reboot
format /cache, /system, /sd-ext
also, I am unable to clear dalvik cache"
Any ideas how to solve this? I have advised him to mount /SDcard or usb storage but to no avail. The internal SD card can be read from Mini partition wizard and it is formatted to FAT32. Thanks in advance for the help.

Hey guys, I flashed CM11-beta4 ROM with OC (system:500MG, Cache:199MG, ext:3GB) and I install my apps and i applied a CM11 theme and made the notification bar transparent (with editing build.prop), without using ART and everything was working perfectly before rebooting the mobile and : ~"Unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped" started to appear
~when I try to open Downloads the same error appear and the app doesn't open
~when I try to take a screen-shot it just say saving and never save it
what I tried: I tried wipe cache, dalvik cache, app data, even wiping my SD-Card and reinstalling the same rom again
*after installing the ROM with OC I didn't installed gapps core because Google apps was already installed
if any one faced this problem please reply to me

Create 3 partitions sd main your card for storage.. sd data ( 1gb ) sd cache 100 mb..
You can't create 3 partition through recovery specially cache..
So use mini tool..
Sd main fat32
Sd data ext4/3 1gb or more ..
Sd cache ext4/3 100 mb
Sd data and cache should be same like ext 4 both should be ext 4..
All should be primary partition..

So guys, I think I'm in a real big problem. When I flash PAC Rom on my i9500 and reboot, it says "System UIDs Inconsistent. UIDs on the system are inconsistent, you need to wipe your data partition or your device will be unstable."
I rebooted into TWRP recovery, Fixed Permissions, and the problem disappeared. However, after that, when I tried to install Apps from File Manager, it said Application Not Installed. I believe this has something to do with the partition thingy. Is there anyway I can overcome these problems?
The problem started when I wanted to install LiquidSmooth on my device. When I tried to do Nandroid backup through TWRP, it failed. Twice. So I used adb for the backup, but it was copying the whole block, 3-4GB+, was taking too much time, so I aborted it in the middle of the process. I then went to TWRP, and flashed LiquidSmooth without wiping (I forgot to wipe). The ROM didn't work, got stuck into Android is Upgrading, even after I wiped, still had the same problem. So I decided to restore my failed backup of the previous ROM (AICP). When rebooted, everything was crashing, System UIDs Inconsistent and stuff. Flashed PAC ROM, still the System UIDs problem, but fixed that with Fixing Permissions.
Is there anyway I can get my phone back to normal? Will I have to re-partition? What are the possible fixes?

I had recently erased the SD card THROUGH the option available in the phone settings. But the System UIDS problem was there before I did this. I didn't change the partition type. And the SD card contained some android data and obb files. Might that be the problem?
Also, should I just put it into the SD card slot in my laptop and format with the Windows Utility?

I don't think android data and obb files are responsible for this system uid problem.. Yes format it using windows utility.. If still facing prob try flashing ROM using any other recovery .. Yes before flashing ROM you know the needed steps so I won't tell it again.. Do the steps manually..
