[Q] Flashing T-Mobile radio onto at&t skyrocket - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I have a rooted and unlocked at&t skyrocket on jellybean 4.1.2 with very slow speeds, so I tried flashing the radios UCMC1 and UXUMA7 through cwm and nothing has changed. After messing with the APN settings a little my data is no longer working. It shows the bars but I can't get a connection.
I flashed the radio UVLI1 in hopes that I would get lucky but that caused my bars to go away to be replaced by a slashed circle. I flashed back to UCMC1 which is showing the bars, but still no data connection. I have broken my back googling and searching forums on this matter but I can't seem to figure this out. Any help please?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2349914
Don't double post

I think UCMC1 and UXUMA7 are ATT and Rogers radios respectively. UVLI1 is the T-Mobile SGS2 ICS radio, which may not work on your JellyBean rom.
Try UVMC6, which is the radio for T-Mobile's SGS2 Jelly Bean update. You can find it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895400
Results can never be guaranteed, but this is the radio I use, and it has worked fine on every single rom I've tried, Touchwiz or AOSP, even in areas w/o the 1900Mhz refarm.

Can I flash the radio change w/out having my phone rooted?

Your phone must have a custom recovery to flash radio files...

It has twrp... that counts right? It doesn't need to be rooted, does it? I'm a computer nerd... phones aren't my thing. Give a girl a break, lol.

Yes ... TWRP or CWM are fine...
Rooting is something different, but for radio flash you have enough...

If I have a AT&T skyrocket and have a T-Mobile sim, should I use this radio? Or just stick with the UX, I am currently running?

It depends on what you observe using either of these..
Try them one by another and see which one is better (UCMC1 vs UX radio) in signal and data speeds ... Personally I couldn't find any difference in my location ... Both gave me the exact same signal and data speeds (TM LTE).

The UX gave me faster data speeds. Call clarity is about the same. I see 4G more than with the UC radio... I was wondering about the T-Mobile radio
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app

T-Mobile radios would give you the ability to connect to T-Mobile 3G using AWS bands 1700/2100 Mhz Band4...And no LTE (or 4G) of course since the Hercules and Blaze (or the note one from TM) devices have no LTE radio chip...
If you live in an area in which T-Mobile deployed their new LTE(and most likely they already refarmed the PCS 1900 band), use UCMC1 or the UXMA7 radio, whichever you find better...Setting the apn to fast.t-mobile.com is essential for sure to get the service...
If you live in an area that T-Mobile is still at their 3G service (AWS bands for HSPA+) use the newest blaze JB radio...
Edit : when you say faster data speeds UX vs UC , any speed vs speed measurement you can share ? probably I didn't give each radio enough testing and jumped to conclude that they have same data speeds !

:good:

Run a SR on Tmobile H+ Network?

Hey I was just wondering if it was possible to unlock a Skyrocket then flash a Tmobile radio and receive H+ data speeds. How would I go about doing it? Which radio would you suggest? Thanks.
Nobody? Theretically it could be done but I just want someone to confirm for me.
After unlocking phone someone tried running t-mobile sim and he said only edge but he did not flash t989 radio so idk. If i can unlock it for free i will try it and let you know.

I have an opportunity to get my hands on one of these phones very soon. I have a HTC HD2 on T-mobile's network. If it is not a bother, could you verify this? I wouldn'' want to be responsible for you bricking your phone, but I would be most appreciative for the information on it's possibilty if you know what you are doing.
It is unlocked.
What do you need me to verify?? I m confused !
Because you can run t**** on i727 with edge network plus you can flash t989 radios on i727 i done that before but not with t**** sim card.

its not possible because t-mobile radios for skyrocket dont exist, so you can't flash an other radio for tmobile as it wont work and you migh just end up screwing your phone. tmobile sucks man, change to anything else.......if you like good hardware that it

HSPA+ will not work with the Skyrocket no matter if a radio exists or not. The simple reason is that supported H+ frequencies are 1700 for download and 2100mhz for upload and skyrocket only goes 1900mhz and 2100mhz. So unless you are able to enable the 1700mhz frequency, 4G or 3G will not work with the skyrocket! Edge is the only frequency that will

I'll be travelling to the states next week and will flash either the Telus or Tmobile radio to use Tmobile's prepaid plans. If no one's replied back to you by then, I'll let you know what I find.
However, there are already reported success of people with SR and the Telus radio using the phone on Canada's 1700 AWS network (Wind).. so pretty sure it'll work. Flashing the radio is safe as well, I've already done it once.
Well make sure you do nandroid before flashing that t989 radio. Plus he wants to know how it will run with tmobile sim card and t989 radio on unlocked phone.

OK, I'm in Orlando now and got the T-Mobile prepaid plan...I flashed the T-Mobile vk1 radio and for some reason, I can't connect to any data. I wasn't even able to go into the mobile network settings screen to see the apn settings. Got a msg to insert a sim card to access services...
I then flashed the telus radio and got 3g right away. Speeds are pretty pathetic tho...only 2m down...maybe I'm just too spoiled by lte
Anyways, it's been a long tiring day so I won't do anymore testing right now..maybe tmr I'll try the other kl1 T-Mobile radio.

So no update on how the radio worked?

Skyrocket on T-mobile T-zone grandfathered data plan

I just got Skyrocket. I have never spent so much on a cellphone before.
Now I have 5.99 unlimited data plan from T-mobile. It is well known as T-zone or Web2Go. I was so eager to try this phone on T-mobile and see if it worked.
After unlocking the Skyrocket, I first rooted then tried flashing different modems from Rogers, Telus, T-mobile KID, VK1 and ect but none of them worked. I was only able to pick up voice signal on stock Radio.
Then I tried flashing the phone with Juggernaut and tried flashing modems. Now I started getting HSPA+ signals. For me KID and Telus modem worked the best. Average download speed was around 5-6mb/s. As the Juggernaut ROM was originally intended for 989, it seemed little unstable for me.
Then I tried Sky ICS stock and Telus combo. Wow, Now I was getting download speed of 10mb/s on T-zone. This combo was nicer because phone did not try to search for UMTS signal so frequently as much as it did with Juggernaut. However now my voice signal dropped down to 1 bar and call quality was horrible(at least it was audible).
Has anyone found any other good ROM/kernel/modem combo for Skyrocket that works best on T-mobile?
Flash tpc v3, and then flash faux sky-kernel 009m. Flash telus radio and make sure j have the right apn (access point names) for T-Mobile. This should clear u right up

I was surprised that battery drain is so significant when idle. My old HD2 uses only 2mA when idle, but my skyrocket uses over 100mA even when gps, data, bluetooth turned off. hope new combo fixes this battery drainage problem as well.

download was faster with telsus but upload was crippled. (less than 0.1) hmm
i feel like vk1 does drain the battery like crazy tough and constantly sends those "high are you there type signals"

So what is your combo to get that kind of upload speed?! As I said, can't get over 100kbs of upload, while download works just fine...
depending on coverage, area and carrier that may be why he's doing better than u. Speed tests are all relative, and should only be taken based in averages. If he's living right beside an LTE tower and he's the only one who has an LTE phone for a quarter mile, his speeds will certainly be faster than someone who lives half a mile away from one and has another 200 people using the tower at the same time

Coverage in NYC is great. Have HTC Sensation and SkyRocket, both with T-Mobile. At the same spot Sensation gets 7Mbit/1.7MBit, while SkyRocket is 7MBit/0.1MBit, so the problem could be in modem, kernel or ROM. Modem is the suspect #1. It seems U/L freq. is the one causing slow upload speeds.
have u tried telus modem?

i have been using the skyrocket on tmobile for 2 days now. i get 2-3 mbps down at work until 4pm or so and then it degrades to 200-500 kbps. i don't know if it is the phone or the tmobile network, but i did not have this issue before with my nexus one.
as i drive away from work, i suppose when i switch towers, i get back to 2-3 mbps down.
this is the behavior that i have noticed the past 2 days.

on another note, i wanted to ask if it is safer and more compatible to be running skyrocket roms and kernels or tmobile galaxy sii roms and kernels?
of course the common theme would be tmobile / telus radio. i'm currently running TPC rom with faux's kernel and tmobile vk1 radio and i am having issues with 8tracks app. it keeps pausing and won't play again until i skip track. i have so far determined it is not the radio, since this happens on both tmobile and telus radio.

Does the nandroid restore the baseband? I know a nandroid restores everyhting else but you might actually have to reflash the original radio that you were on before the UCLA3 version...not actually sure though.
This radio is the best for Rogers everything work great, lte as well and reception is great. At work where I only sometimes got connection at all, I have min two bars now, and internet works perfect. Thanks for makers and uploader

i concur.
lte picks up where the rogers modem doesn't I go between that and the telus modem (which doesn't do LTE but has good hspa speeds) It also does a great job in just automatic mode selecting the right band for low signal areas.
Yep I use it on Rogers with LTE working.
Also, someone mentioned a fix where you dial *#2263# to change the baseband to LTE only.. which works, but I stopped getting incoming calls and couldn't make outgoing calls when I did that.. fyi. Maybe it was just my case.

Not only data uses LTE network. When I used LTE data plan I got missing calls sometime (the call went directly into voice mail). Called rogers and the tech confirmed that calls work through LTE as well. If the signal of LTE is weak the call then bounces back into voice mail.

i've been switching between LA3 and KJ7 modems past 2 weeks...signal seemed great on LA3, but i'm not convinced it's good for me....
Consistently past several tests I get 2-3Mb down and 0.5-0.8Mb up on LA3......and if I flash to KJ7 I get 2-14Mb down and 1-3Mb up.....flash back to LA3 and it changes back....and flash again to KJ7 and back to other numbers....
In my area, KJ7 actually seems to be better, and I've switched back for now. I'm mainly around HSPA, not LTE though...
It also seems to be giving me better battery life...albeit we're talking difference of maybe 30 minutes to 1 hour...this phone is a PIG when it comes to battery life
So I've been using this modem since yesterday and I haven't been able to pick up an LTE signal but maybe Rogers coverage map is incorrect? idk but the 3g signal has been great
The only problem I'm facing (which I'm not sure if it's caused by the modem or something else) is that I couldn't send a text message to anyone but myself cuz it would fail... but if that person sends me a text first, then I can start sending text messages back no problem...
I registered for Rogers One Number, does that have anything to do with it?
UCLA3 radio works fine for me and I'm on Rogers network.
To check if your problems are radio dependent, why can't you just flash back to the Rogers radio? I believe it is on the same radio thread.

I tried that twice but when I check under Status it still shows the UCLA3 and not the one I flashed.
Also, I keep setting to to GSM/HSPA/LTE (Auto) mode but it keeps switching back to the one without LTE
EDIT - For some reason the APN settings were only for non-LTE access. Changed the apn to ltemobile.apn and now it works

Also, someone mentioned a fix where you dial *#2263# to change the baseband to LTE only.. which works, but I stopped getting incoming calls and couldn't make outgoing calls when I did that.. fyi. Maybe it was just my case.

don't do that, just go to Settings/Wireless/Mobile Networks and change it there.

Change the Apk to ltemobile.apk, will work fine

What rom and kernel combo are you using

With all the development and new roms which combo are you using? I'm currently on nexus mod 4 stock UCLA 3 2.3.6 kernel getting outstanding battery life.
On NexusMOD 4 and was on romracers stockish0.3
just switched to faux010m UV-75 and UC to 1.4. Gonna see how that runs
I tried the faux kernel uv and uc but the silver stock ucla kernel is amazing for me with heavy usage
I would use juggernaught 5.0

I'm using Sky-ICS on the 2.6.35.11+ kernal. Pretty decent battery life, although I am not in a LTE area so I'm not sure how that would be on the battery. ROM is fast, smooth, and pretty customizable.

its STILL missinge LTE, adding an apn won't fix that, the actual rom is missing the support framework

I have that ROM, it's not missing it.
And every single rom for Skyrocket has LTE Support, actually the phone hardware is always there, that I know for sure.
some ROM's don;t even have an option to choose and still applying apn works perfect. On AT&T ROM the icon will say 4G and small LTE under it, on Rogers it will say LTE.
If 4G is working there is no way you can be missing LTE as LTE is 4G just faster.

Actually 4g is HSPA, LTE is a different network.

AT&T uses regular LTE which is just 4G updated it's called 4G-LTE, Canadian network is way more advanced.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4G
coming back to my original point, if your phone shows 4G sign and you don;t get LTE, two reason's 1) you are not in the range for LTE 2) your apk is wrong. This is tested and retested, just change the apn and get in the LTE range and see the magic.

well there u go, becuz I'm on rogers in Canada and LTE is LTE, 4 g is slower. Yes, the LTE radio remains active but the rom is incompatible with the frequencies of Rogers LTE = no LTE. That being said a RAT unlocked radio like kj7 may work, but 1) i highly doubt it, and 2) I never got around to testing this as the UCLA3 modem and kernels combo work great for me

Hate to brake it to you, but At&t IS LTE, not just spiced up 4g. Why do you think they have to have an LTE radio to receive it.
PS... Rogers and At&t are together so....

Running Unknown RC1 rom and SGS2 Streamline kernel. Usually underclocked and under bolted unless it's my day off and I'm fooling around all day on here
Non-bricked Skyrocket since 2-11-2012
Running sky-pics with faux 009m and gideonx script. So far so good. Battery life is good too, especially with a governor and good settings

No LTE with Custom Roms?

I know the skyrocket I727 supports LTE. With stock firmware LTE is not a problem. But when I put any custom ROM it no longer goes to LTE. Is this normal or is their a separate download for an LTE radio in these custom ROMS?
This is not common at all. Check that your apn settings are correct. And you have the recommended radio. What rom are you using?

I have tried slimbean superlite and a few others. My radio is well I can't seem to find that. My baseband version is i727ucll3 I use CWM touch...When I go into mobile networks is says HSPA:10 and that's it.
Radio or modern is the same thing as baseband. I'm not familiar with the slim bean rom so maybe someone who is can give you a better answer. But in Mobil networks, apn on the superlite rom I have three options with one being lte.

If you're using a rom like PA, CM10, AOKP and probably Slim Bean too.. 4G=LTE.
Do I need to install a new radio? I just ran a speed test and I am getting only about 2 megs down, where before on stock it was like 15 megs down...

Ok I'm their but it will not let me choose anything except HSPA:10 when I try to choose LTE it reverts back to the HSPA

Can you take a screenshot of this screen.. it'd be easier to see what's up?
Edit: Also, what rom are you on now?
The radio you have is the right one, but I'd re-flash it. See vincoms stickies in the development section. He'll have the radio download and how to do it.

Download the ucll3 radio from vicoms sticky and flash it. You don't need to do any wipes and its not going to muck anything up. It'll take care of your problem.

Have you run a speed test lately? As said, many custom ROMs don't have an LTE icon; 4G is LTE, H+ is what AT&T considers "4G" in areas without LTE coverage. Running a speed test is an easy way to tell. If you're getting LTE speeds when your phone says 4G, you're on a ROM that doesn't show an LTE icon.

I'm a blast from the past!
Sent from the long bus, I got mainstreamed
Have you tried opening dialer up, entering *#*#4636#*#*
Go to phone information, scroll down to a drop down menu. Sometimes it'll say WCDMA preferred. Open it and select LTE and your signal should drop and cone back as LTE. After select LTE/GSM and close it.
Are you sure you were on LTE in the first place? AT&T is kinda misleading with their branding and calls HSPA+ "4G" whereas LTE is "4G LTE".

I try flashing pacman rom and my phone is displaying the 4g logo. In the pacman rom thread, I saw a snap shot with
the lte symbol. Any ideas?
